Managing a hostile takeover is hard. Managing a literal Dark Lord is a nightmare.
Sloane Carmichael doesn't care about the forces of darkness. She cares about supply chain optimization, color-coded spreadsheets, and finishing her espresso before it gets cold. So when her interdimensional consulting firm assigns her to restructure a failing, dilapidated dark fantasy fortress in the Ashen Plains, she packs her sensible heels and her favorite ballpoint pen. Her goal? Streamline the evil operations, avoid being eaten by ghouls, and get back to Manhattan by Friday.
Voragoth, Sovereign of the Ashen Plains, is a terrifying apex predator accustomed to ruling through fear, green hell-fire, and blood-soaked rituals. What he is not accustomed to is a tiny human woman handing him a printed meeting agenda and firing his chief lieutenant.
But when the pristine Forces of Light declare a holy crusade to wipe the fortress off the map, Sloane’s quick consulting gig becomes a desperate fight for survival. If she wants to live to see her next performance review, she’s going to have to do the transform a disorganized horde of feral monsters into a highly efficient, heavily weaponized corporate machine.
The biggest logistical hurdle, however, isn't the impending holy war—it's Voragoth. The fearsome warlord is quickly realizing that the most captivating thing in the multiverse is a competent woman with a clipboard. And to Sloane’s absolute horror, the Sovereign of the Ashen Plains seems willing to restructure his entire demonic reign just to impress her... assuming they survive the fiscal quarter.
The Logistics of Evilis a laugh-out-loud, slow-burn monster rom-com featuring deadpan workplace humor, heavily weaponized administrative jargon, and a fiercely protective dark lord who will happily burn the heavens to the ground—but only after he finishes folding the laundry.
I cannot begin to explain how wonderfully heartwarming this book turned out to be. I did not know what to expect and I was delightfully surprised. Beyond elated and I cannot believe this is such a hidden treasure I was able to discover. If you’re a fan of Terry Pratchett, Monty Python, even Buffy the Vampire Slayer I urge you to give this book a read. Its satirical wittiness left me in absolute fits of laughter more times than I can count. The characters are so likeable and the story is absolutely unique. I loved every single page.
I have actually found myself laughing out loud. The sheer audacity of a tiny human making a warlord do spreadsheets and inventory, her inner dialogue when he has been violent is 👌🏻 Seems Sloane is hot for the warlords outbursts! She smells like vanilla, and espresso
* Sloan likes predictably, managing chaos with colour coded spreadsheets * “I do corporate mergers not hostile takeovers” * Lord Voragoth expecting a colossal demon ends up with her due to SEO (search engine occultism) * He turned is lieutenant into a ficus 😅. She has his men water it “do not drown the lieutenant” * There’s bright orange pop up yurt ⛺️and a night of rage .. the yurt survives it all 😏 * Giant deadly orcs wearing kitchen gloves 🧤 * “No one touches my consultant!”
🧌Tropes🧌
* Touch her and die * Forced Proximity * Monster x Human * Slow Burn * Enemies to Lovers * Dark Romantacy / Comedy * Office meeting but make them deadly
Wow, I honestly did not expect to be this blown away! This story is an absolute masterclass in genre-blending, taking an incredibly fun premise and executing it with razor-sharp wit and crackling tension. The concept of a corporate restructuring consultant being summoned into a blood circle instead of a demon of destruction is brilliant. Seeing Sloane armed with spreadsheets, high-vis safety vests, and oat milk lattes as she completely domesticates the terrifying Dark Lord Voragoth is pure, laugh-out-loud genius.
It is witty, exceptionally paced, and seamlessly balances workplace comedy with enemies-to-lovers heat. An absolute five-star read!
