Cayden's the quiet lumberjack of the crew, never wasting his words. When Sam arrives in her fancy heels, he takes one look and walks away, however our lawyer is not one to give up easily!

'Nothing about this is what I planned when I came to this mountain and everything about it is better than anything I could have planned.'

A sweet story with great characters and a HEA.

Ruined by the Wylde Lumberjack by Cindy Smoke is everything I love about a short mountain-man romance: witty banter, instant chemistry, a grumpy hero who speaks through actions instead of words, and a love story that leaves you smiling long after the final page.

From the very first chapter, I was hooked. Sam's disastrous arrival on Wylde Mountain—lost, stranded in a thunderstorm, and completely unprepared for mountain life in her heels—sets the stage for a romance that is equal parts funny, sweet, and swoon-worthy. As a successful Texas trial attorney, she's used to being in control of every situation. Wylde Mountain, however, has other plans.

And so does Cayden Wells.

Cayden is the kind of mountain man romance readers fall for instantly. Quiet, observant, capable, and fiercely protective, he's not a man who wastes words. He simply shows up when he's needed. Whether it's fixing problems, offering help, or making sure Sam is safe, his actions speak louder than any grand declaration ever could.

What makes this story shine is the contrast between these two characters. Sam is vibrant, talkative, and endlessly expressive. Words are her comfort zone. Cayden lives in the spaces between conversations. Watching him learn everything about her simply by paying attention while she talks was incredibly charming. Even better was watching Sam slowly realize that beneath his gruff exterior is a man who notices everything.

The chemistry between them is fantastic. Their push-and-pull dynamic creates plenty of laughs, tender moments, and undeniable attraction. Cayden may be grumpy toward everyone else, but the way he softens for Sam is impossible not to love. He never tries to change her, and one of my favorite aspects of the story was how he gives her something incredibly valuable—space to make her own choices while quietly standing ready to support her.

I also appreciated how naturally their connection develops despite the novella length. The pacing feels quick but never rushed, allowing readers to fully enjoy their growing bond while still delivering all the warmth and satisfaction of a complete romance.

And as always, the animals add an extra layer of charm. They manage to steal scenes and hearts right alongside the main couple.

If you love grumpy lumberjacks, small-town mountain settings, stranded-together meet-cutes, opposites-attract romance, and heroes who show their love through steady actions rather than endless speeches, Ruined by the Wylde Lumberjack is an easy recommendation. Sweet, funny, and wonderfully romantic, it's a story about finding the one person who understands you perfectly—even when you speak completely different languages of the heart.

Sam arrives in Wylde Mountain expecting nothing more complicated than cat-sitting while her aunt and uncle enjoy a well-earned vacation. Competent, capable, and fiercely independent, she’s the last person who expects to get lost. Yet with no GPS, and a relentless storm, she misses a crucial turn and ends up stranded on a dead-end road in front of a small cabin. Just as she resigns herself to making a dash through the rain, the door swings open to reveal a man approximately the size of his cabin. A man who, by the way, seems irritated by her very existence before she even says a word. Cayden (though Sam doesn’t learn his name until much later) takes the strong, silent type to the extreme. He offers no introduction, brusquely informs her where she went wrong, and promptly turns to head back inside. Their first meeting is awkward, hilarious, and absolutely perfect. Things only improve when it becomes obvious that Sam’s car isn’t going anywhere. But my favorite moment was when Cayden opened her car door, saw her black Louboutins, and swept her into his arms without a word so that she didn’t ruin her fancy shoes. It was such a small gesture, but it perfectly captures who he is. As Cayden drives her to her aunt and uncle’s house, we get an immediate sense of their personalities. Sam fills every silence with endless chatter, bursting with energy and incapable of sitting still, while Cayden stays quiet, listening and watching, learning from what he observes. Their dynamic is instantly entertaining. What follows is a beautifully developed slow-burn romance. Cayden goes from reluctantly driving Sam into town for groceries to finding increasingly flimsy excuses to spend time with her. And when the unreliable internet at her aunt’s house forces Sam to work from Cayden’s cabin, their worlds begin to overlap even more, and the walls they’ve built around themselves start to crack. I loved watching their first impressions evolve. Cayden sees beyond Sam’s nonstop talking to the passionate attorney who fiercely advocates for kids who have no voice. While Sam discovers that beneath Cayden’s gruff exterior is a man who quietly helps wherever he’s needed, never seeking recognition or praise. Their banter is funny, sharp, and often used as a shield to hide deeper emotions. Yet through their conversations, both characters are forced to confront just how lonely they really are. Most of all, I loved the way Cayden showed Sam exactly how he felt about her without the need for words, and when the time came, he leaves the choice entirely in her hands with the simple words: "You know where I am." Few lines have ever said so much with so little.

She got lost in a storm and found the man who made leaving feel impossible.

Sam lives by control. She’s sharp in court, quick with a comeback, and used to being the most capable person in the room. Then one wrong turn leaves her stranded on a mountain road, soaked, furious, and face-to-face with Cayden Wells, a silent lumberjack annoyed by everything except fixing what’s broken.

Cayden doesn’t flirt. He doesn’t offer pretty words or easy charm. He just shows up with rides, repairs, coffee, quiet rooms, and the kind of care Sam can’t argue around. The more he does without asking for credit, the harder it gets for her to call it convenience.

Their pull builds in restraint, restless honesty, and the slow shift from silence to safety. Sam is only supposed to stay for two weeks, but Cayden’s steady devotion exposes the loneliness under her ambition, while her warmth cracks open the life he’s built around being alone.

When desire finally breaks through, it’s controlled, hungry, and loaded with everything neither of them says out loud. But the real risk isn’t just the heat between them. It’s what happens when leaving starts to feel less practical than staying.

Sam starts as a woman who trusts control, competence, and forward motion, but Cayden’s quiet care makes her face how lonely her polished life has become. Cayden begins as a man who has mistaken isolation for peace, then lets Sam’s warmth, need, and sharp attention pull him toward something fuller. Together, they shift from reluctant rescue to charged proximity to a bond built on action, trust, and being seen.

A hot, grumpy sunshine, small town mountain romance filled with forced proximity, quiet care, acts of service, protective tenderness, and the slow undoing of two lonely lives. It’s about competence, vulnerability, desire, emotional safety, restraint, and the kind of devotion that shows up before it speaks.

The Elevator Pitch: A sharp Texas attorney takes one wrong turn on a storm-dark mountain and collides with a silent lumberjack who protects, fixes, and wants without ever asking for credit. What begins as an inconvenient rescue turns into a dangerous kind of comfort, where every quiet act of care makes her polished life feel less certain. With only two weeks before she has to leave, she must decide whether the life she built is enough, or whether home has been waiting at the end of a dead-end road.

I absolutely loved Ruined by the Wylde Lumberjack. Cindy Smoke delivers exactly what a great short mountain romance should: instant chemistry, sharp banter, a hero who says very little but means every word, and a heroine whose voice jumps off the page. From the opening setup, I was hooked by the stormy, stranded-on-the-mountain meet-cute and completely invested in where this romance was headed.

What really worked for me was the contrast between the polished Texas trial attorney and the rugged, grumpy lumberjack who clearly falls first even if he’d never admit it out loud. Cayden has that irresistible “quiet, capable, protective” energy, and the dynamic between him and Sam is both funny and undeniably swoony. The pacing is quick, but it never feels rushed—just tight, entertaining, and satisfying from beginning to end.

If you enjoy grumpy/sunshine energy, small-town mountain charm, forced proximity, and steamy instalove romance, this one is an easy recommendation. It’s a fast, addictive read with plenty of heat, heart, and personality. I finished it smiling and immediately wanted to spend more time in Wylde Mountain.

I like how the details about each other sneak up on them and don't let go, waiting for them to acknowledge what they to each other, and embrace it, fully feeling it.
I like her case against him; it helps process what's happening between them without it actually happening until it does.
His dog is like him, not liking people except for her. He moves faster to get pleasant scratches, showing openly who he likes, unlike the hero.
Considering the way their first interaction goes, or the lack thereof, his surprising care for her shoes is notable.
The hero attracts the heroine just by being himself.
A curious crew states the obvious; I like them.
I like the dog, cat, and human dynamic in every variation in this story.

I can remind him he bought the bread the previous day.
Somewhere there should be a challenge to make grumpy mountain men or just grumps smile.

Ruined for anyone else by MeemsAngel82

A loner to a point, a good woman who can't stop talking because it's what she does when certain situations come up. And it was SO good!! Oh, this man. I would have been a bit miffed at him at first but then totally checking out the wood chopping because, well, I'm not above that.

She came to visit her family for a bit and met a man who wasn't big on words but big on making her feel too much.

She was wonderful! What a good woman and a good match for him. I loved the chemistry! He was being a loner which I completely understand but she left a lasting impression on him. Something ladies just don't do with him. Them coming together was so right and haunting and so lovely. And the animals in this story? So fitting when it came to choosing sides! I very much enjoyed this group of amazing men and their ladies and look forward to the next one!

This book was a great read and a good addition to the series.

There has been a lot of opposites attract message in this series and boy does it make for a great gripping story

Cayden, by far, is the quietest mountain man I’ve ever read he takes quiet and stoic to an entirely different level, but Mann is at a powerful effect. Sam is in town to housesit, but finds more than she bargained for and the quiet man Cayden is

She’s a lawyer, and she argues for a living, but the quiet strong ways. Cayden shows his intentions feels like they leap off the page. There is such a satisfaction and him showing all his actions versus the words he doesn’t tend to use. I love that Cayden made a case for his love with his actions and not his words and let Sam be the jury.

This book will keep you turning page by page until you’re done and then read it again.

Ruined by the Wylde Lumberjack is sweet connection and intense feels! Cayden is the silent and observant type, the one who always shows up and shows how he cares through actions—no words needed. Sassy Sam doesn’t know how to shut up—words are her life and she definitely knows how to use them. It’s fun and fascinating to watch this gruff mountain man show her who he is—while also clocking exactly what she is about as he watches and listens to her. The push-pull dynamic between these two is fire, and the way he gives her everything she needs—including the space to choose on her own terms—is so beautiful. And the pets, of course, steal the show as always!!!

This is book 4 in Wylde Mountain Timber series. Cayden is the quiet guarded lumberjack who does things because they are right not for recognition. Sam is an attorney who is in Wylde Mountain pet sitting her aunt's house. I liked Cayden. He's not loud he's solid. Sam is something he didn't think he wanted but everything he needed. The group texts between the lumberjacks are funny especially with Koda leading the way. Throw in a grumpy cat and a dog who fell in love with Sam just like his owner. Enjoyable addition to the series.

Book 4 of Wylde Mountain Timber. Can be read as a standalone.

'Perfect for readers who love grumpy heroes who roll their eyes and then fix everything, and heroines who talk too much until they finally meet a man worth shutting up for.'

The characters were very appealing and likeable and complicated and absolutely perfect together. Plot was intriguing and well paced. World building was solidly drawn and impressive. All in all a great addition to the series. Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend.

Cayden is quiet, never uses more words than necessary, grumpy and is perfectly content in his solitude until her….
Sam is a fast talking, confident attorney with a heart of gold. She takes a wrong turn in a rainstorm and realizes her current life is not enough.

A gripping love story between a strong stoic mountain man and an independent, high powered attorney from Texas that came to Wylde Mountain for a two vacation. They met by accident when Sam got lost on her way to her aunt's house ending up instead at Cayden's home, where her car died and he took her to her aunt's house. He was such a quite man, and she never stopped talking. There was lots of great humor to enjoy through out the story. I throughly enjoyed this book.

I really liked the way these two understood each other, they communicated in ways that worked for them and it was lovely to see, I believed in their connection and chemistry and felt a connection to them both, and to Duke and Rufus who made me smile. I liked seeing them get to know each other, the banter with his crew, and how honest they were with each other. I also liked how Cayden didn't push or force things, he made his stand and waited to see what would happen.

This is sweet, cute, entertaining and passionate story. I love the characters! The story is part of the "Wylde Mountain Timber" series but can be enjoyed as a stand alone read. I enjoyed every bit of Sam and Caydena's story! She has a smart and competent trial attorney on the way to her aunt and uncles in Wylde Mountain. She is lost and in rain that is coming down hard. She stops at a cabin for directions and Mr. tall and grumpy mountain man is there. This is fun!

When independent, competent Sam gets lost in the mountains she never expected to be rescued or affected by the grumpy, man of few words Cayden. What he doesn’t say in words he just says it in actions. They are as opposite as they come but somehow their attraction is mutual and they soon fall for each other. This was witty, enjoyable and steamy. Wylde mountain is becoming the place to find instalove.

Book 4 of Wylde Mountain Timber story of Cayden Wells and Sam. Now that’s how you win over a grumpy mountain man and his dog, although he did win over the grumpy cat so not sure that counts. I loved how Sam acts from the first time she meets Cayden all the way to the end. I hope they are in the next book.

I enjoyed this installment in the series. I just felt like I was missing Sam's back story about what she needed to get away from in TX. I'm glad we got Cayden's, though. Other than that, it was a sweet read with just enough heat and the happy ending we all hope for.

Cayden isn't much of a talker he's a shower. Mel just can't seem to stop filling the silences with chatter. One would think these two would never be caught close to each other. Cayden and Mel prove that sometimes opposites are exactly what fits the best.

This is a short but satisfying read and we see these two realize sometimes the best things are the unexpected.

A storm, a failing GPS, and the dark lead Sam to Cayden's door. She was trying to get to her aunt's house. Cayden is a man of very few words, but Sam makes up for that! I love their connection and how Sam's aunt meddled. This is an excellent book with the perfect happy ending.
