September 4, 2026This was such a sweet romance story. Michael and Rose working through the stressful and complicated life of being royals. The way they stuck by each other no matter what situation come up was so inspiring. This was a fun story to read.

I received this book as an ARC (Advance Review Copy) in exchange for an honest review.
I initially judged this book to be a forbidden romance, but it turned out to be something much more calming and peaceful, something I didn’t know I needed at this moment.
Claimed by the Crown follows Prince Michael and Rose, and I really enjoyed reading both of their characters. Rose, especially, felt like the light that came into Michael’s life, helping him find the right path. I really loved how short and easy the chapters were, which made the book a very calming and comfortable read. That being said, I do think a little more conflict between the characters could have made the story even more interesting and added more depth to their relationship.
Overall, I really loved the vibe and the storyline, it’s quite rare to read an arranged marriage romance between a prince and a commoner without the usual class-based conflict, and I enjoyed that aspect of the story.
Overall, a sweet, peaceful read with a lovely romance and a comforting vibe.

The pros:
The soft and gentle love between Michael and Rose. It was quite sweet and I'm not usually a fan of insta-love, but their story was adorable.
The descriptions of the world. Flannery places the reader in the scene utilizing all five senses.
The cons:
The short, choppy sentences became repetitive after a while. They were used to convey the characters feelings, but it was overdone throughout. It also made the pacing of the story feel off, some parts rushed, others dragging.
Head hopping in the middle of scenes. I enjoy books with multiple POV's, but we'd jump from Michael to Rose to Michael's parents and Rose's parents with no really distinct breaks. It became confusing after a while.
The low stakes. I figured there wasn't going to be any epic battles or major conflicts, but the murmurings of court never really led to anything and the one conflict in the book felt forced.
Overall, this was an okay book, but I definitely felt like there were things that could be improved on. Of course, this is only my opinion and I still offer my sincerest congratulations to Stella Flannery for publishing this novel.

The book follows the story of Michael, a reluctant prince trying to escape his duties and Rose, a weaver's daughter longing for more for her life. Brought together, they need to navigate their life together surrounded by onlookers.
When I saw the premise for this book, it reminded me a little of Cinderella, focusing on their meeting and after she moves in with the prince and adjusts to royal life.
I initially enjoyed the book and can see the potential, however I quickly found the writing style didn't work for me. The pacing felt rushed and the dialogue felt forced and choppy rather than like it flowed, which for me made the book and characters hard to get into.
I would like to emphasise that there is potential in this story, and in the author, I just felt it read more like reading a draft version rather than a completed book.
