For cookbooks I prefer lots of pictures and this has that. There is a brief explanation section in the front, but you should read their book(s) about their plan to get the most out of this. I haven't made any of the recipes yet (I don't have all the ingredients for most of them) and may alter this review after I make some.
It's nearly impossible to separate this from their plan so I'm attaching my review on their plan book below:
I thought this was different, but it's just a new name on the old low carb plan. I had hoped for balance, but what I'm seeing is artificial sweeteners and products most people don't have and have to work hard and spend a lot of money for (like xanthan gum, sunflower lecithin, agar powder, gluccie, and their special mixes). There has been so many complaints about strange ingredients that there are some recipes listed that are NSI (no special ingredients).
They want you to learn and use new lingo - which isn't new to them either. I liked a lot of their... chatty and funny narrative, but know they can be a little ... judgmental too. I remember one place where they talked about food we shouldn't eat and they referenced the old testament rules and mentioned (my summary - not a quote) that they believed God knew what He was talking about but we could decide for ourselves. I felt like eating those foods would be like challenging God - which totally ignores the passage where we're told all the food is for us and we're not bound by those rules anymore.
I joined one of the support groups on Facebook and that's when I saw how people were gagging on the "sips, struggling with eliminating enough carbs and sugar, and trying to help one another find ingredients and modify recipes. These groups are very active though and members share recipes and encourage one another. That may be the best part of this plan.
