There's a dot-com that collapses, and an engagement at Disneyland, which is not the happiest place on earth. He restocked first-aid cabinets out of a beat-up van across Eastern Washington, one knuckle bandage at a time.
He had a dream job atop the Saint Francis Hotel and lost it to a courtroom. He had a fiancée and a house and a future, until the police were called and he was sleeping on a friend's couch. He watched his father get lost on a jog and knew, in that moment, what was coming.
This is also the volume where Tom finally writes about the night he didn't think he'd live to write about. It's one chapter. It's honest. And then the book keeps going, the way life did.
