In June 2025, college graduate Rudi Wu shows up for her first gig as the Analyticist for the floating city named Liberstead. Rudi struggles to cope with the politics in a community that values guns, drugs and multiple wives; there are no rules and there is no government or money. Realizing her mistake, Rudi intends to leave as soon as possible. The Libersteadians also consider whether to embark on a dangerous journey floating the city across the Pacific Ocean. Complications abound as residents discuss voting rights, immigration, abortion, 12-step programs, gun rights, God, kilts and porcupines. Civil war en-sues. Ideals prevail. Everyone lives. Liberty the Redeemer smiles.

Well, this book is hilarious. It is full of irony, sarcasm, eccentric characters and unexpected plot twists. But at the same time it contains greats thoughts and discussions about freedom, evolution of freedom, original intentions of government, philosophy, religion and so on. Read this book carefully. Can't wait to read next book. Well done Mr.Bruns!

I won a copy of Liberty Awash by JW Bruns from Goodreads.
This humorous story explores the results of living according to political ideals. Will these characters be able to establish a city-state according to their dogma, especially when they don't always agree? Does history repeat itself? Or do these individuals simply need to relearn the hard lessons of history? JW Bruns explores these questions through the citizens of a floating city in Liberty Awash.
At times humorous, at times insightful, the book will intrigue readers who enjoy political studies. I confess to struggling, at times, to remain engaged with the plot, but, overall, I enjoyed the story.
Liberty Awash is a good novel for book clubs wherein members relish a good philosophical debate. JW Bruns novel will delight readers who enjoy contemplating the ebb and flow of society.
I received this book via goodreads giveaway. I had to give it two stars because I couldn't get into it and I wasn't able to develop feelings to care about the individual characters. There were some interesting concepts and facts. The book had an interesting premise, but it wasn't translated well into a story. I probably won't reread this book.
