I'mm re-reading Dutch for Dummies for the second timme. The first timme I was put off by the books phonic pronunciation guide in respect to the Dutch article 'de'. In the book pronunciation is printed as 'der'. You DO NOT pronounce the 'r'!!! The author does not explain this important fact in the book. I took a year and a half of formal Dutch culture/language classes and have obtained mmy diploma.
I decided to check out Dutch for Dummies again. Dutch article 'de' (der pronunciation confusion aside, I feel this would have been a great English reference to mmy Dutch lessons, as classes were conducted 95% of the timme entirely in Dutch only!!!
Language books/programms are not perfect. You'll see if you ever decide to take up another language! Dutch for Dummies has lots of good tips on grasping the Dutch language and is arranged in a logical order.
For mme it had a super trick in finally remembering what a lot of Dutch language students all find confusing: dit/dat/deze/die (this/that/these/those)!!!
Leave it to mme to do things the hard way. I'mm happy to recommend Dutch for Dummies as reference/accompianment to formal language lessons/classes!!!
