A collection of eight contemporary chick lit short stories are set around April Fools’ Day. On the first day of April, tricksters play their pranks, but what will be the outcome? Some will find love, while others will experience betrayal. Other pranksters will seize adventure and travel to confess or rekindle romance. Some may face rejection, seek forgiveness, or earn a second chance. Read on and find out how love and laughter rule the day.
Celia Kennedy was born in Wurzburg, Germany on an American military base. Her parents' penchant for traveling the world, via a Volkswagen Minibus with a Porsche engine, sparked her imagination. Staring out the window, sometimes through fog and rain, at other times at sunny blue skies, she began to make up stories for the places and spaces they passed by. The in-between time, the most fascinating to her.
The imagined world has always fascinated Celia. She has studied Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Interior Design, and pretty much every other subject matter. Like her childhood, it was the ride that was the most entertaining, arrival at a degree, not anywhere as important.
Mark Twain said, "Write what you know." When combining this concept with her unusual life experiences (working at a nuclear submarine base when Chernobyl blew, testing software Bill Gates kept close tabs on, travelling extensively while quite broke, or falling in love with her boyfriend's close friend) thinking of what to write about isn't challenging; there just needs to be more hours in the day.
"Write what you know," is a common enough phrase. When combining this concept with her unusual life experiences (working at a Nuclear Submarine Base when Chernobyl blew, testing software Bill Gates kept close tabs on, travelling extensively while quite broke, falling in love with her boyfriend's close friend) thinking of what to write about isn't challenging; there just needs to be more hours in the day.
Currently she lives in Washington State with the loves of her life.

Sometimes anthologies can be like winning the “secret grab bag,” lots of stuff inside, some are pretty awesome and some can’t make it to the trash fast enough. The stories are short so the pressure is on to connect, build the tension and bring it home in just a few pages.
Imagine getting a huge grab bag, with stories from authors you know and some who have their very first published worked just waiting for you to read! You slowly open the bag, ever so cautiously and begin to read and you keep reading and read some more, then just one more story, because they are that good and all of a sudden you are at the bottom of the bag and its empty and you are grinning from ear to ear.
Welcome to my world as I read Fools Rush In! An April Fool’s Day Anthology, eight absolutely charmingly romantic tales, filled with pranks, more pranks and some really different pranks! From the office “Secret Jokesters” (think Secret Santa on laughing gas) to the engagement prank that backfired!
Perfect reading for busy days, when you can only steal a minute or two to read, or are waiting at the doctor’s office! You may want to give your appointment slot to the next person just so you can keep reading. (You might, you ever know) Fun, lighthearted, definitely fluffy chicklit material, these April Fool’s tales will surprise you with everything from a new job, to a new romance, to feats of magic that will amaze you!
Hats off to Celia Kennedy, S.E. Babin, Laurie Baxter, Amy Gettinger, Whitney Dineen, Connie Stephany and Engy Albasel Neville, Suzy Jay and Karen Eleni (contributor), a winning writing team with a magical way with words, no fooling!
I received this copy from Celia Kennedy in exchange for my honest review.
What a fun read. I love anthologies and short stories. These were well timed for the holiday. Want a to read about a fun scavenger hunt in New York City? Love the geek gets the guy trope? The workplace romance? This one has all that and more. Very cute. A couple I wish were longer. All in all, a very enjoyable read. The truth is, short stories evolve from a lack of page real estate. They have to get to the point and fast. They have little time to hook the reader, and even less to form a three act structure. This is why they have such great potential. The writing has to be tighter. There is no time or space for a huge amount of back story or unnecessary prose. This was very enjoyable and great for reading on the commute train to work.
This is the kind of book that you want to have with you when you're bored or having a bad day.... when you need to be entertained! I don't usually read Chick-Lit but this book may have converted me. The short stories are funny, witty, romantic and smile buckets. It'll definitely put you in a good mood. A fun way to pass the time. My favorite is Operation Tom Foolery from Suzie Jay. Well written, sweet and fast paced. Really looking forward to reading more of these authors writings.
I enjoyed most of the stories in this lighthearted tribute to April Fool’s Day. The anthology is full of narratives about families, loved ones, and colleagues dealing with the famous holiday of pranking. However, two contributions stand out: S.E Babin’s “Fool Me Once” and Suzie Jay’s “Operation Tom Foolery”. I prefer these accounts for three reasons: they relate to overcoming the odds, they’re well written, and they’re unique.
I have never read such a lighthearted, yet gripping, tale of a marginalized high schooler turning the table on her tormenter as “Fool Me Once”. I absolutely loved the flashback sequences! I wanted to cheer when the former bully changed his tune about his former main target.
Operation Tom Foolery also inspired me because it dealt with winning against office bullies, in a way. In the end, the main character finds herself in a much better position than previously. In fact, her new situation is beyond her wildest dreams. What reader wouldn’t be inspired by such a tale?
I absolutely recommend this book to all lovers of light, fun fiction!
I found that it was a little difficult to rate an anthology as the stories were different. I'm not a big romantic person; I don't get caught up in mushy love stories, so I wasn't sure how I would like a whole bunch of stories with romance in them. I was pleasantly surprised. Overall, they were fun, lighthearted and unique. My favorite was "Fool Me Once". I thought it was an original twist on a tried and true story. I really would have loved if that one was a full length novel. The others seemed perfect as short stories though, especially "Tom Foolery", which reminded me of "The Devil Wears Prada" with romance. I really enjoyed the scavenger hunt aspect as I am a lover of scavenger hunts. This is perfect for when you are short on time, but want to sample a lot of different writers' works.
I loved reading the anthology! I was finished reading it within an hour and it was an enjoyable read, undoubtedly. Definitely worth buying for Kindle readers who want to enjoy themselves with a book. One great part about this anthology was that each story was definably different and each author has their own voice. I really can't pick a favorite story. I loved the book as a whole and I'd recommend it to any chick-lit fan.
((I was given a free copy in exchange for a review))
What a fun read! Each story was well written and the characters are too cute. I love it when I can relate to a character which I did with more than one in this book.
What an interesting idea, 8 short light stories written around the theme of April Fools' Day.
My favorite stories were S.E. Babin's Fool Me Once, about mean high school pranks turned upside down in later years, with a HEA love story, and Suzie Jay's Tom Foolery, about an office romance mixed with a cruel prank that turns out all wrong for the prankster, all right for everyone else.
There are a couple other stories that involve a work environment, and one that includes a Volkswagen assembled in a living room. A few of the stories were a bit weak, writing wise, but overall, a light, entertaining read and nice introduction to these writers.
Very cute book! Really cute stories about romance! I did take a star of because the second to last story in the book was not romantic at all, it was more about a girl getting a new job and moving to NYC. I didn't think it should have been included in this anthology.
I haven't read chick lit for a while and this reminded me why I enjoy the genre so much. The cheeky frivolity and hilarious mishaps, punctuated by moments with heart make for entertaining reading. It's free! Go grab it. Cheers
...one I hated, and the rest were okay... I doubt I'll reread this collection again, but I'll definitely check out any books by the authors of the stories I enjoyed.
Difficult to rate an anthology since some stories are definitely better than others. However on a hot, sunny April afternoon when my daughter wanted to play at the playground after school almost every afternoon it was the perfect reading material. Short stories that are easy enough to finish, and simple story lines that don't get tangled when the "Mommy! Look at ME!" gets screamed.
I don't always read chick lit and some of the stories are definitely cliche but for easy reading it's a fun one to grab.
And yes Celia Kennedy I did see that you had your character reading "Venus Rising". :-)
A great collection of eight chick lit short stories all around the theme of April Fools Day. Each story was written by a different author, so had it's own voice. I couldn't choose a favourite, I liked each of them for their uniqueness. I expected that each story would have a romance and a happy ending, and wasn't disappointed. It was fun to see which pranks were played, might have a few new ideas now for next April 1.
As an added bonus, there was a character in one of the stories whose name started with X, so this book came in handy for one of the reading challenges I was doing in the NBRC group on Goodreads.
I received a review copy I think I had the perfect timing to read this anthology – on vacation! I read this on my recent trip to Orlando, and I thought it was the perfect vacation read. Each story is short and snappy, and it was easy to get through the entire collection quickly. I don’t think you need to read this only around April Fool’s Day, but each short story does revolve around the prankster day. But a bonus – the collection is FREE on Amazon! So even though I’m not getting this up until mid-April, I still think you should download this and enjoy the fun!
I always think I like chick lit, but then I start to read a book like this and am forcibly reminded that I loathe most of the stuff I've read in the genre. I have certain authors whose work I enjoy, and hoped that an anthology would help me find more. An anthology might, just not this one. I stuck it out until just past halfway, because I kept hoping the next story would be better. Then I gave up because I have enough books I know I'll enjoy to keep me going for a long time.
Thank goodness I didn't pay anything for this dross.
This one is truly a fun read. In general I like reading short stories as it takes less time commitment and I can get to the end sooner. I like the concept of this book with stories written around April Fool’s day and the cover art of all the stories was a treat to the eyes!
I enjoyed the fun-filled short stories and overall the book is a great read. My favorite story is Operation Tom Foolery from Suzie Jay, it really took me for a ride in amazing New York and I could imagine all the scenes.
Good heavens, this was some bad drivel. I figured a bunch of short stories would be a nice introduction to the chick lit genre.... but this was so, so .... bad... unbelievable.... regrettable. I've read zombie and vampire books that are more probable. I mean seriously... fake marriage proposals... fatal furniture accidents... running after celebrities.... office issues that would have a five year old shaking his or her head at the ridiculous adult behaviour. Just too out there for me.
I loved this anthology! They are short stories that can put a big smile on your face. Some where better than other, it goes by taste and preferences, but overall I really enjoyed it. As other said in their review, is a book that you want to keep in hand if you want something light and fun... and for other maybe a source of inspiration for some creative April Fools tricks. I would definitely recommend it!
This anthology was full of great short stories, and I found myself having a hard time putting it down. Each author brought a unique story and individual characters. The pranks were brilliant and well thought out. I caught myself rooting for the characters more often than not, and waiting with baited breath for the next April fools. By the end of the book I was even considering some pranks of my own. If you enjoy light-hearted short stories this is definitely for you.
I love short stories and I love short stories about love… Fools Rush In is a great collection by a nice array of authors and writing styles. You can sit down and read just one or you can cozy up and take them all on. Some long, some short… Some naughty, some nice…. They will all put you in a good mood and leave you smiling.
Easy to read chick-lit anthology. The first story was my favourite, some of them were a bit silly or predictable, but none were "terrible". Not my usual type of read, but I needed a book with a character name starting with X!
This collection of romantic short stories all involve April Fools day. I am not an April Fools fan so I didn’t enjoy that aspect of some of the stories. But they are cute and creative.
This was a great anthology filled with great stories centered around April's Fool Day. I enjoyed each story and recommend that you get your copy today.
This collection of short stories introduced me to some authors I really enjoyed and some I didn't care for, which isn't surprising given the wide range of styles. A few of the first stories needed better copy editing, and a lot of the April Fool's hijinks required extreme suspension of disbelief, but all in all, a fun read.
Two of the stories in this collection were amazing, and I would give them five stars. The others were average, with only one story that I did not care for at all. Just the two amazing stories make the whole book worth the time to read, though.
P.S. the two amazing stories were Who Does He Think He's Fooling and Fooled Around and Fell In Love.
