I really loved the concept of this story. I think it was pretty original and I was loving where it was going. Especially as Tav and Alastair were stuck in this place with one another. Neither knew why they were there, but they both had the same agenda, except the other didn’t know. I loved the forced proximity and how the two were slowly realizing what was going on. I really liked this, the way things went and how they turned out. I’d love to read the next one.
A gripping, slow‑burn M/M thriller with real emotional weight. I loved the tension, the forced‑proximity chemistry, and the way the truth unravels piece by piece. Tav and Alistair’s connection feels intense and earned, and the twist behind the Pairing Protocol hooked me completely. Dark, smart, and addictive — I’m excited for the next book.

This book was interesting and I enjoyed it, but it was a weird reading experience. I really liked Tav and Alistair and enjoyed following their relationship, but I was frustrated with the number of editorial issues.
The biggest problem was the repetition. It often felt like the same events were happening multiple times. For example, Tav finds out that Alistair also works for Ablation, but later the book seems to treat that information as a new revelation more than once. There were several moments like that where I found myself thinking, 'This just happened!', which made the story confusing and harder to follow.
Because of the editorial issues and formatting, the dialogue was often hard to follow because it wasn't always clear who was speaking. There were points where conversations felt jumbled, and I had to stop and work out whether a line was a continuation of the same person's thoughts or whether someone else had started speaking.
Despite those issues, I loved the dialogue between the intriguing main characters. It was always short, direct, and precise, and that was definitely what kept me reading. One of my favourite exchanges was:
'Thank you.'
'It was eggs.'
'I know what it was.'
I was also frustrated by how often Alistair and Tav promised not to keep things from each other and then immediately did exactly that. After a while, it became repetitive, much like their frequently repeated use of the word 'together.'
This book had the potential to be much stronger with better editing, less repetition, and clearer dialogue formatting. The developing relationship and engaging interactions kept me reading, but the editorial issues were impossible to ignore.
This book and me didnt get along sadly. I wasnt a fan of the writing style so I didnt get into it properly. I didnt feel a connection with any of the characters due to this
I love the concept - a MM thriller romance with forced proximity, slow burn and spy elements. I mean it sounds amazing - just for me this didnt hit that mark. No idea where the burn was
I also felt it repeated itself a lot.. I swear it would say something and then repeat itself again a few pages down the line. The pacing wasnt for me either - I think how it was written again - it went from week 1 to week 6 then back again? Unless I read it wrong. I dont know I feel like it jumped around a lot.
If this was written differently I'd have probably got on with it a lot better but as it stands - not for me
Thank you so much to the author and Booksprout for this amazing read! The banter between tav and Alistair was amazing. I love the forced proximity trope and this did not disappoint if you love m/m romance and dark romance I highly suggest this one!
I didn't understand anything from this story, but I feel in love with the writing! I couldn't feel the caracthers and I really couldn't care about their relationship
