Thomas Seymour is applying for a post in the Home Office through the patronage of his Uncle, Lord Amberley. He is asked to clear up a small did the late Lady Marian write to a former Home Secretary that she feared for her life? The letter was regarded as a hoax at the time. Thomas duly investigates, and finds far more than he bargained for ... including Nell, an attractive widow who quickly overturns all his plans and priorities.
This has everything one most could wish for in a book and revisits earlier characters. Intrigue and suspense with a fuller ending than some of the earlier stories.
May Burnett, an excellent author of traditional Regency novels. I appreciated the very real characters and romance protagonists, plus the plot with a bit of suspence. To recommend.
