Catherine Doherty burned with love for God. In every word she spoke or wrote, she tried to quicken that love in the hearts of others. In this revised and expanded edition of a Madonna House classic, we begin with the basics of our faith as Catherine communicated them -- the Incarnation, the Mystical Body, the Eucharist, Our Lady, etc. -- the School of Love. As she often proclaimed, "No part of the Gospel is abstract." In other words, without living our faith, putting flesh on the Gospel in daily life, those truths of faith lie fallow. With her unique charism of communicating how to "preach the Gospel with your life" she presents the Tools of Love, the ways to let the light of Christ shine through everyday life. Let her exhilarating words, her fire of love, light a flame in your heart and soul!
Ekaterina Fyodorovna Kolyschkine Doherty, better known as Catherine Doherty, CM (1896-1985) was a social activist and foundress of the Madonna House Apostolate. A pioneer of social justice and a renowned national speaker, Catherine was also a prolific writer of hundreds of articles, best-selling author of dozens of books, and a dedicated wife and mother. Her cause for canonization as a saint is under consideration by the Catholic Church.
I love this collection of Doherty’s writings and the emphasis she placed on our homes as a “school of love.” I am not an enthusiastic or skilled housekeeper, but this book has changed my attitude towards everyday tasks and helped me to see washing dishes as acts of love in a more concrete way. There is something about her writing that touches me in its simplicity and breathes life into ideas that I might grasp with my mind but have yet to figure out how to put into practice with any level of consistency. This book is full of gems and has made me love Catherine Doherty even more.
This book quite literally changed my life. Catherine Doherty writes with such passion that you can’t help but fall in love with Christ the way she has. She gives countless examples of living out our Christian life in ways that are real, practical, and applicable to right now. It was like a veil fell from my eyes, and I understood exactly how God was asking me to get to Heaven.
This book was life changing as a mom. It was one of the most impactful books I’ve ever read. It allowed me to see my roles in a completely new light and I feel changed for the better because I read it! I want to devote my year to living it out!
