Keeping secrets is a dangerous game. No one knows that better than Lily Matthews.
Desperate to escape an obsessive ex-boyfriend and a dark past that continues to haunt her, Lily agrees to a girls’ trip at a secluded lake house deep in the Adirondack Mountains. It seems like the perfect place to disappear for the weekend.
Until a storm rolls in and a woman shows up at their door in the middle of the night with a chilling accusation: years ago, a girl went missing from a nearby boarding school, and someone inside the house is responsible.
She’s been watching them.
She knows everything.
And now she wants to make them pay.
That’s the thing about secrets. The darkest ones always come to light.
Told across a propulsive dual timeline between the present-day lake house and an elite Adirondack boarding school fifteen years earlier, Your Deepest Darkest Secret is a suffocating psychological thriller packed with twists you won’t see coming, dangerous friendships, buried trauma, and a pulse-pounding finale.
YOUR DEEPEST, DARKEST SECRET is perfect for fans of The Housemaid, The Only One Left, and In a Dark, Dark Wood.
Liv Lowry lives in Germany with her husband and her son.

4.5 stars! This one is a non-stop action, pulse pounding, classic psychological thriller that hits the ground running and never lets up. While also feeling super unique and fresh!? I was on the edge of my seat the entire time!
What a wild ride that perfectly executed the dual timelines of our FMC's experiences today and then also of 15 years ago at an all girl's prep school. No one is trustworthy, mean girl vibes, total unhinged energy from all characters , 567 twists, with still a cohesive theme of friendship, survival and the unbreakable bonds of family. I was completely shocked with each new layer to the story and had whiplash by the end!
I LOVE this author's writing style- I found it incredibly immersive and clever. I felt like I was watching a movie play out. This was my first book by Liv Lowry and it certainly won't be my last!!
This was such a captivating, atmospheric thriller, and saying I was hooked from the very beginning would be an understatement !! The story follows Lily Matthews, who joins a girls’ weekend at a secluded lake house in the Adirondacks, hoping to escape her troubled past. But when a storm traps everyone inside and an unexpected visitor arrives with a chilling accusation tied to a girl who disappeared fifteen years ago, long-buried secrets begin to surface…
I loved the dual timeline and how the mystery slowly unfolded, revealing just enough to keep me constantly questioning everyone. The secluded setting, eerie stormy atmosphere, complicated friendships, and suspicious characters created the perfect recipe for tension, unease, and paranoia. Every time I thought I had things figured out, another secret surfaced and sent me back to square one. This one’s a true nail-biter that will keep you on edge and guessing until the very end. If you love twisty thrillers filled with secrets, betrayal, and messy friendships, this one is definitely worth picking up. This easily earns a spot as one of my fave reads of the year so far !!! 🖤⛈️💀🤫🌲🕯️🏚️
When an author I follow on Instagram announces a new book release, I can’t wait to jump right in on release day! I set all my other ARCs aside and dove into this one, and I’m so glad I did. I started reading in the evening and didn’t stop until well after midnight—it was truly a wild ride!
The story unfolds from the perspectives of Lily and Clementine (Clem), alternating between their pasts and the present. This dual timeline helps us grasp the depth of what happened and why. It all kicks off as a fun getaway for Lily, her friend Sloane, and her sister Ava in the Adirondack Mountains. Yet, the atmosphere among them feels strained rather than friendly, hinting at looming twists. Three “friends” in a remote cabin? What could possibly go wrong? A lot more than you might think!
As it turns out, Lily has a controlling ex and is desperately trying to get away. Meanwhile, we learn that not far from their secluded cabin, Lily and her friends attended the same boarding school. A chilling connection, right? It sets the perfect stage for uncovering serious trauma from their past and details surrounding a cold case. But what really happened to Clem? While the story seems straightforward at first, prepare for some unexpected twists, buried secrets, and reveals you’ll definitely struggle to predict!
The author has done a fantastic job keeping the suspense alive, revealing crucial information at just the right moments. I wouldn’t change a thing, especially with that main twist and the ending—it all came together in a jaw-dropping way! The atmosphere is secluded and eerie, and when someone knocks on the door during a storm, it’s just the beginning of the suspense! I won’t spoil anything because this is a read you have to experience firsthand—trust me, go in blind and gather no extra information! It’s a nail-biter that keeps you on the edge of your seat, and you truly won’t see what’s coming next. Bravo!
If you enjoy an atmospheric, almost claustrophobic thriller, this book is a must-read, especially during a summer storm. You’ll find it hard to put down, as the girls might need some serious help to figure out who in the cabin is behind the gut-wrenching moments! If you’re drawn to themes of risky friendships, deep-rooted trauma, and secrets poised to surface, you won’t want to miss this one. Think about it: how far would you go to protect the only family you have without anyone knowing? This story takes it to the next level, and I want you to experience it yourself! Your TBR pile says it’s okay to squeeze in just ONE more! On a personal note, the dedication really hit home for me since I definitely belong to the tired reader club. So, thank you for that, ha!
How far would you go to keep your deepest darkest secret buried?
Dual Timeline - The Past
Lily recently lost her father from a heart attack and was sent away to school by her stepmother where she knows absolutely no one. She instantly becomes friends with her roommate, Clementine. The other girls at the school are mean, rich girls that like to torment Lily and Clem. Something happens during Lily’s time at this school that continues to haunt her later in life.
-Now
Lily is desperate to escape her crazy, stalker ex boyfriend and her friends have invited her on a getaway to a beautiful lakehouse but her dark past continues to haunt her. And now there’s a dangerous storm, they’re stuck in the house and a lady shows up in the middle of the night with accusations from the past.
The darkest secrets always come to the light.
💭 To say I was drawn in from the start is an understatement. I honestly could not put this book down! The dual timelines had me hooked. It was like reading two amazingly different books at one time. I loved reading Lily’s past life and all that went on at Wrenwood Academy. I felt like I was really there with Lily.
This book I highly recommend!! The end twist slapped me so hard and I loved it 🤣 Such an amazing book, full of secrets and twists! Total page turner. So fast paced! Read in one day!
I really enjoyed Liv Lowry’s debut, Pretty Dead Things, but Your Deepest, Darkest Secret is on another level entirely! This is exactly the kind of thriller I love to read. Twisty, emotional, addictive and completely impossible to predict. Every time I thought I’d worked out what was happening, Liv pulled the rug out from under me again. By the end, I had genuine whiplash from the twists!
For me, the boarding school timeline fifteen years earlier was the standout. I absolutely loved following Lily and Clem’s friendship, and I was utterly invested in uncovering the secrets surrounding the school and one incredibly twisted family. The way Liv slowly unravelled everything was brilliant. When the reveals across both timelines started colliding and completely changed my understanding of what I’d read, I genuinely had to stop and process what had just happened.
This is a book that starts strong, and then the pacing just ramps up. On my second sitting with it, I’d read 16 chapters in half an hour. The short chapters, dual timeline structure and such an engaging story just keep you magnetised to the pages.
Beneath all the twists and shocks, this is also a story about friendship, grief, loss and revenge. It’s that balance between shocking twists and genuine emotion that made this such an easy five-star read for me.
I really enjoyed Pretty Dead Things, but Your Deepest, Darkest Secret has raised the bar even higher. Liv has delivered everything I want from a thriller with this one, and I already can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!
After escaping an obsessive ex-boyfriend, Lily joins her friends for a weekend away at a secluded lake house, hoping for a fresh start. But when long-buried secrets begin surfacing, what was meant to be an escape quickly becomes a fight to uncover the truth before it’s too late.
Liv Lowry has done it again. I loved every single moment of this book, and somehow I enjoyed it even more than Pretty Dead Things - which was already a five-star read for me.
The tension is relentless from beginning to end. Even in the quieter moments, there was an underlying sense of unease that kept me turning the pages, never quite trusting what was coming next. Every reveal felt earned, and I was completely invested from the opening chapter.
What I loved most, though, is that beneath the psychological thriller is an incredibly emotional story. This isn’t just about secrets and suspense - it’s also about grief and tragedy, finding family in unexpected places, and learning how to keep living after unimaginable loss. Those emotional threads gave the story so much depth and made the characters feel wonderfully real.
Liv Lowry has quickly become an auto-read author for me, and if this is the standard she’s setting with only her second novel, I genuinely can’t wait to see what she writes next.
With her dangerous and obsessive ex boyfriend basically stalking her, Lily agrees to go away for the weekend on a girls trip with her friends Sloane and Ava. They go to a secluded lake cabin in the Adirondack Mountains. When they get there, Lily sees that it’s near her old boarding school. The boarding school where a girl went missing. When it begins to storm outside, the lights inside flicker. Then a woman shows up at the door accusing someone in the house of killing her family member. And now, this woman wants them to pay. But there’s more than one person here hiding a secret – a deep, dark secret.
My description of the synopsis does NOT do this book justice. I can’t even begin to tell you how amazing this thriller is. I don’t think anything I say or write is going to be enough! Just know that this is a 5 star book, a definite must read.
We get the dual timeline here, the present of what is happening now and then what happened while Lily was at the boarding school. Neither the past nor the present lack for action. But the action in the present is heart pounding and keeps you on the edge of your seat. It may even make you hold your breath because you can’t read fast enough. Lowry writes a creepy and atmospheric book – it’s as if you’re stuck in that lakeside cabin alongside the characters.
More than 1 secret comes to light, and the secrets are amazing. Then there are a few twists that I didn’t see coming. I wasn’t even trying to guess because I just wanted to read! The gut punch of the first big twist was awesome. Then the gut punch of the second one!!!! All of these together with the ending, it was just all so satisfying.
This is a dark, addictive thriller. It’s definitely one of my top books this year!
What an incredible book! This is one of the best, fastest paced thrillers I’ve read in a while. So many twists, and definitely an ending I did not see coming! I will absolutely be reading more of Liv’s books.
Your Deepest Darkest Secret is an unputdownable book that takes you a the wildest ride! It’s full of twists, turns, and shocking revelations until the very last page.
Do I have dark circles under my eyes from staying up half the night reading it? Yes!
Was it worth it? Absolutely!!
I read this one sitting because there was no way I wasn’t going to find out what happened next.
This one is fast paced, twisted, unhinged, and exactly what I want from a gripping psychological thriller. The author’s writing style is incredible! It sucks you in from page one and just doesn’t let go until the last page!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Highly recommend!!
Thank you Books & Bloom PR & Liv Lowry for this advanced reader copy!!
Thank You so much for the gifted advanced copy to @livlowryauthor and @booksandbloompr!
So you know that eerie feeling when you feel like you need to keep looking over your shoulder and randomly feel like someone is in the room or looking in the window. Just watching you. So you have to check the locks and make sure your phone is charged so you can run? Welp. That’s this book! It’s SO GOOD! I’m of course going to keep it spoiler free so I’ll be brief! Fantastic dual timeline, multi pov, unreliable narrator, morally gray, fierce women, perfect thriller! Liv outdid herself once again quickly making herself the queen of thrillers! I double dog dare you to figure out the twists. Impossible! I have absolutely been blown away by these books!
ARC REVIEW: Liv has done it again! 👏 Your Deepest Darkest Secret will have you staying up way past your bedtime because it’s impossible to put down! It will have you guessing the entire time, and you’ll still be shocked (trust me)! The amount of times I thought “what! 😱” are countless. It’s twisty & creepy, and will play with your emotions. Grudges are a dangerous thing. How far would you go to protect the ones you love? Everyone has secrets… EVERYONE.
This book had me on my toes from the first page. I read the whole book in three hours. Could not put it down. All the twist and turn and the duel timeline had me on the edge of my seat.
wow!!!! this was an absolute rollercoaster and i loved every second of it!!! there were so many twists that actually shocked me which was nice. i love feminine rage!!
Wow! This book is so twisty, suspenseful, and a serious page-turner. I so wish I could have binged this one.
I absolutely loved the plot. The dual timeline with the before being at a corrupted boarding school is just my cup of tea. I love those kinds of thrillers and historical fiction. This one was no different. The main characters appeared on the page as real people and I couldn’t stop from turning the pages to see what happened to them next. I loved every twist, even the ones I saw coming, and how the book unfolds. Every plot line is wrapped up with a nice clean bow.
”When you're a nobody, no one gives a shit about you…”
Lily is invited to spend a weekend at a secluded lake house deep in the Adirondack Mountains with her friend Sloane and her sister Ava. It seems like the perfect place to escape her life for a few days, and more importantly, her obsessive ex-boyfriend... or is it?
A storm rolls in, a stranger shows up, and suddenly Lily is back at Wrenwood Academy, her old boarding school. Fifteen years earlier, a horrific fire burned most of the building down, trapping teachers and students inside. Now, it seems the past is threatening to creep back in...
When Liv Lowry promises a jaw-dropping twist, she’s selling herself a little short. There are at least three major, jaw-dropping twists that caught me completely off guard!
Wow. When I first picked this up, I had absolutely no idea where we were headed or how everything would tie together in the end, and I was so impressed by how it all came together!
Lily, our FMC, has been through a lot in her life, particularly during her teenage years, but things aren’t slowing down as she tries to escape her obsessive ex-boyfriend. In short, she carries a lot of trauma and has some very understandable trauma responses, which makes you want to root for her, but with a little apprehension. Is she reliable? Can we trust her version of events?
The story shifts between the present day and fifteen years ago, when Lily attended Wrenwood and experienced everything that happened there. I found the flashback timeline quite heavy on the YA elements, which is to be expected given Lily’s age at the time, but the present-day timeline more than made up for it. I definitely wouldn’t classify this as strictly YA. The events are unhinged and a little out there, but honestly, I have no trouble believing that places like Wrenwood, or headmistresses like Kessler, could exist.
The atmosphere was tense throughout, not least because of Lily’s exhaustion and the way her proximity to Wrenwood brings so many memories rushing back. I found this genuinely unputdownable and flew through it in two days.
If you’re looking for a psychological thriller with solid pacing, some truly unexpected jaw-dropping twists, and a tense, atmospheric setting, this is a good one!
I’m still trying to process everything I just finished.
Your Deepest Darkest Secrets grabbed me from the very first page and never let go. The pacing is lightning fast, the suspense is razor sharp, and every chapter left me desperate to know what would happen next. I flew through this book because putting it down simply wasn’t an option.
This story is packed with shocking twists, dark secrets, and an atmosphere of tension that intensifies with every page. Just when I thought I had things figured out, another revelation completely changed everything. It’s the kind of thriller that keeps you guessing until the very end.
I absolutely loved Liv Lowry’s writing style. It’s seamless, clever, and incredibly immersive, making it easy to lose yourself in the story. The multiple POVs and dual timelines add even more depth and intrigue, creating a puzzle that was both fascinating and impossible to solve ahead of time.
If you love dark, addictive, and completely unpredictable thrillers, this is one you won’t want to miss. I’ll definitely be picking up more books by Liv Lowry soon.
Thank you so much to Liv Lowry also to Books and Bloom PR for the eARC. All opinions are my own.
I absolutely loved Your Deepest Darkest Secret!!! From the dedication alone I was instantly hooked. The eerie atmosphere pulled me in from the very first page and it never let go. This book was completely unputdownable. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time constantly needing to know what was going to happen next. I genuinely had no idea where the story was headed and I loved that. Every chapter left me wanting "just one more." The world was easy to understand and the writing was so vivid that I could picture every scene playing out in my head. I didn't just read the emotions I felt them. I also loved the way the story moved between the past and present. It added so much depth to the story. And those twists... WOW. Every time I thought I had something figured out the story proved me completely wrong. I swear I had to pick my jaw up off the floor more than once! Lily completely stole my heart. I felt so much for her and I found myself relating to her emotions in ways I wasn't expecting. I also loved her friendship with Clem. That ending? Absolutely incredible. It was powerful, shocking and ended with a mind blowing twist that I'm still thinking about. Congratulations you've officially become another auto-buy author for me!
Lily Matthews has recently broken up with her overly obsessive boyfriend, and is desperate to get away. When her friend Sloane suggests a girls weekend away at her family’s lake house, Lily jumps at the chance to escape to a place where Julian can’t find her. She’s trying desperately to have a great time with her friends when she gets a text from an unknown number: Found you. Then, there’s a knock at the door…
How far would you go to keep your darkest secret buried? When a girls' getaway at a secluded Adirondack lake house turns into a nightmare, long-buried secrets begin clawing their way to the surface and someone is determined to make the guilty pay.
I absolutely loved this book. The twists were amazing and not too outlandish. The book was genuinely hard to put down. If you like secrets, secluded settings, and books where you can’t trust a soul, you need to pick this one up.
YA? Psychological suspense? Thriller? Honestly, it doesn’t matter—it nails them all.
Every time I thought I’d figured it out, another twist landed. Even the reveals I didn’t know were coming somehow caught me completely off guard. I kept waiting for a plot hole to appear, but it never did.
The cast is brilliantly connected, and the boarding school setting felt so authentic it had me reliving my own boarding school days.
And that epilogue? I didn’t think I needed it, but it landed perfectly. It completely reframed the story in the best way.
Even the title, Your Deepest Darkest Secret, becomes more meaningful the longer you sit with it. It ties into the story so cleverly that I found myself thinking about it long after I finished.
This is the first story I've read from Liv Lowry and I will definitely go read her first novel, Pretty Dead Things, for sure!!
Thank you to the author for gifting me an e-ARC to read for an honest review!
From the beginning, I was sucked into this story. I love a good thriller and this delivered times 10! It a was heart pounding, suspenseful story from start to finish. The surprise twist at the end? WOW!
I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a good dark thriller. There's a horror element to this story, so I think any horror readers would appreciate this as well.
After her ex-boyfriend refuses to leave her alone, Lily takes her friend, Sloane, up on the offer to go out of town to visit their family cabin. It’s a beautiful, peaceful setting but really close to the old Wrenwood Academy that holds many dark memories for Lily. The first night, during a huge storm, there is a knock on the door that starts an unpredictable chain of events. As Lily fights to survive the night, the past and its secrets catch up with her and won’t stay secret much longer.
Review:
This book was a wild ride from the very beginning! There were so many twists and turns, I was getting dizzy trying to keep up! I liked the dual timeline, learning what happened in the past really explained so much about the motivations of the characters in the present. There were so many connections between of the various characters from the past and present that were so unexpected. I loved watching Lily and Clem’s friendship develop in the past. Their friendship was so beautiful; for two girls who had been through so much, they were so lucky to find each other. Overall, this was a great thriller!
Bonus points for the main character being a veterinarian too !
Girls boarding school and secrets never mix well. Lily and her roommate, Clem, becomes friends and promise to keep each others secrets. The book is told in dual timeline from Lily’s time at boarding school to the present. In the present Lily is spending the weekend with friends while trying to escape a crazy ex boyfriend.
This book has so many twists that you don’t see coming that I gave up trying to guess the ending. It is a book that grabs you and is atmospheric and has friends giving up everything to protect a friend. It’s a great read!
I had the privilege of ARC reading this This was my first book by this author and will not be my last. I loved the pace of the book. I enjoyed how it bounced back and forth between past and present with really 2 different stories happening but at the end it all comes together and you are like 🤯🤯🤯🤯 When the twist started happening they happened.
This was one of the easiest five star reads I’ve ever had. It was nonstop plot twists, and I couldn’t put it down. This story is told in dual timelines and it was executed to perfection.
WOW! My mind is blown. My anxiety is through the roof. The twists in this thriller were some I didn’t anticipate to happen. I cannot believe the ending. It’s one of those story’s where I need to take a moment and process the outcome lol. Wonderful job Liv! Loved it!
This was a fun read! I was trying the entire time to connect all the dots and I will say, even though there were some twists I was able to predict, there were parts of those twists and other twists that I wasn’t able to guess. I really liked the isolated setting trope. The atmosphere was creepy. I enjoyed the dual timeline and character development. This book is suspenseful, fast paced and addictive.
