After a long cold winter, Little Bear is ready for spring. But when will it arrive? With help from a grumpy groundhog, Little Bear and his friends help get spring started.
Else Holmelund Minarik was the author of the Little Bear series of children's books, which were successful as books, and were also made into a successful children's TV series. The Little Bear books sold more than 6 million copies worldwide.
Else Minarik was also the author of another well-known book, No Fighting, No Biting!
She was born in Denmark, and with her family immigrated to the United States at the age of four. After she graduated from Queens College, City University of New York she became a journalist for the Rome Daily Centennial newspaper and taught first-graders during WWII. Minarik lived in Nottingham, New Hampshire.
Not actually by Minarik, and it shows. The five original books had her magic touch, whereas the ones inspired by her and published with the tv show are just ok. And of course illustrations 'in the style of' Maurice Sendak aren't quite the same, either. Still, this is a sweet enough, funny enough, story, and probably plenty appealing to the target audience.
Little Bear hits another home run with the grandkids in this adorable book about finding out how soon spring will arrive. Cat, Duck and Little Bear are off to see their Groundhog friend and find out whether he can see his shadow. At first, he doesn't want to cooperate, but when they remind him of the benefits of spring, he is able to help. Fun and memorable.
