AN ELEMENTAL ROMANTASY OF FORBIDDEN LOVE BETWEEN A SERVANT AND A PRINCE.

Cordelia Wildheart’s memories were taken—and she’ll do anything to get them back.

Growing up in an orphanage in the Land of Sand, Cordelia was often told that she’d one day be healed. That the Water Priestesses from ravaged Ilma—the neighbouring Land of Water—would be liberated, their powers restored, and with a single touch of their goddess-blessed hands, her memories would finally return.

But hope becomes scarce after the leaders of every other Elemental Land forsake Ilma—including the Hailins, powerful rulers of the Land of Ice and once Ilma’s closest allies. Desperate for answers, Cordelia comes into possession of a key that could open the umbral doorway to the soul-eating seer, an ancient being who might be able to grant her what she seeks…for a hefty price.

So when the dangerously handsome Prince Aegir Hailin ices his way into Cordelia’s warm land, bringing with him a web of tempting bargains and whispered promises, her lifelong desires swell, while new, forbidden ones slowly sprout. But can she trust the same man who has abandoned his own people?

And so, Cordelia must decide which price she’s most willing to pay—her heart or her soul.

(Review of ARC)

I absolutely loved this book! It had so many aspects to it, I loved the mystery behind the main character, and the whole memory loss mystery. The romance side of it was a slow burn and well paced enough to keep me invested, and of course the fantasy vibes made me love it even more!

I really enjoyed the extra chapters at the end, reading parts of the story from different points of view. It added a whole new layer to my understanding of what had happened and it also made me love the story even more. So much thought was put into not just the story, but the characters and world building.

I really hope we get a book 2! I’ll be following this author eagerly. And a huge thank you for giving me the opportunity to read (and fall in love with) this book.

I absolutely could not put this book down!

This story made me emotional, made my jaw hang open and had me kicking my legs in the absolute best way.

This romantasy was beautiful. It gave me total The Last Airbender vibes with the elemental magic, and it has everything else I love: laugh-out-loud banter, shifters, and the "only one horse" trope (which always gets me).

The dynamic between the servant FMC and the demi-fae Ice Prince brings intense sexual tension right from the start. It is so well-written, and they so clearly want each other!

The plot is packed with unexpected twists, turns and overlapping layers that I honestly did not see coming. I found myself shaking my head in absolute amazement at the sheer intricacy of the world and the secrets, yet the author weaves it all together so flawlessly that it still comes across as simple and effortless to follow.

The road trip with his soldiers was pure banter! It had me rolling and wanting so much more of them! Of each and every one of them. And the daily training scenes? Mmmhhmmm.

I loved watching the Cordelias quest unfold as she grew in confidence and strength. While some questions were answered, even more were raised. Plus, the tests and her traveling companion had me completely hooked. (Trying not to give away any spoilers)

I always feel privileged to read ARCs, but I try to provide my honest feedback. Here is what I wasn't as keen on: right out of the gate, we are introduced to more than ten characters and locations. While I expect unique names and places in romantasy, being thrown in that quickly without many defining descriptions made it hard to connect with the side characters initially and I had to push through to really get into it (aka don't DNF after 2 chapters). However, I came to realize that Cordelia has very distracted, sporadic thoughts, which actually lines up perfectly with how she describes the people around her.

On a personal note, I usually prefer more explicit spice, but the fact that it wasn't super heavy didn't stop me from thoroughly enjoying the story.

At the end of the day, this book made me laugh out loud, smile and gasp, what more could you possibly ask for in a great story?

This is a fantastic debut. It has a satisfying story arc of its own, but it still leaves you desperate for more.

The love story is great, the plot is great, the magic is great and there are so many more tropes I haven't mentioned becuase I just don't want to spoil it for you!!

Plus, as a primary dark romance girlie, those final chapters gave me absolute life and made me love this author even more. (Just a dipped toe, don't be put off if your not a dark lover)

At the end of the day I need Book 2 on my Kindle right now!

Okay, seriously, you all need to read this one but beware it's a slow burn and oh, it will burn.

The book starts with an immersive map and a little friendly chart for the different nations and their elements which I found out was a nice touch from the very beginning. I like all the world building information before I start a book instead of having it at the very back page but that aside, the story was very gripping from page one. The tone and wording of the book set the pace just right and immediately hooked me. The narration also went from the present to the past which was absolutely seamless! It was so heartwarming to read all those past instances in the middle of whatever was happening as it gave the much needed background information and some of those scenes just have my heart!

And talking of having my heart, I loved Cinnamon and the FMC's bond with her mare. It was so nice to see genuine relationships outside of the MMC and the FMC's bond. Like the other soldiers of the Ice Vanguard and the FMC? And the other servants? All of it was so wholesome and well written which created an even more readable and imaginable world instead of it being hollow. The spark, chemistry and tension between the two MCs was evident from the start and I just loved them together and throughout the book, the author made me root for them so much!

The plot was also very interesting. I'd say, it's one of the things that keeps you going because you just don't know what's going to happen next until the big reveal which I liked about the book! And I loved the bonus chapters at the end. I did not know we were getting them so that was a sweet surprise and it filled my heart with so much love when I read the last few chapters. I definitely recommend this book to fantasy lovers!

The only other thing I have to say is that it was painfully long. The plot wasn't being dragged on for no reason, the pace was perfect. Which is why, it would have been great for me personally, if this book alone was divided into 2 separate books because after the captivating plot and characters introduced in book 1, I would have definitely bought book 2. This just felt like a lot in one book. But then again, I understand and it's ultimately a preference from reader to reader. Other than this, I have nothing else to say. I loved this book, the world, the characters, the plot and I would read the next one!

You know a book has truly got you when real life keeps interrupting the story in your head 💖

As a beta-reader and ARC reader, I can honestly say this is a stunning debut — and I mean that. Cordelia Wildheart is the kind of character you just get behind straight away; she’s strong and resilient without ever feeling forced or unrealistic. And Aegir … he had my heart within the first few chapters. I’m such a sucker for the ones who seem untouchable but would do anything for the people they love 🥺

The side characters deserve a mention too — they’re not just there to fill space, they actually add something, and I found myself caring about them just as much as the main two.

Even as someone who doesn’t usually read romance, this book completely pulled me in and didn’t let go. There were a couple of moments that felt a bit cringey for me (but I know romance readers will eat them up), and honestly it didn’t even matter. This is so much more than a romantasy. There’s friendship, laughter, real loss, adventure, and characters you will absolutely loathe.

Beyond the characters, the elemental world is beautifully built, and the adventure scenes are where the writing really shines — you can feel everything, the cold, the heat, the tension. When the stakes are high, you are completely in it. And Cinnamon had my whole heart 🐴💜

The slow burn romance is done just right. It’s slow, but not the kind that has you thinking “ffs just kiss already” — it feels earned, and that makes it so much better.

What really stood out to me overall, especially for a debut, is the pacing. Every chapter earns its place and ends on just enough of a hook that “one more chapter” turns into finishing the whole book in one sitting. And as someone who read this as both a beta and ARC reader, I’ve seen how much work has gone into refining it — and it truly pays off.

And the last few chapters… wow. I was crying, laughing, just sitting there completely overwhelmed and not ready to let go of these characters at all 🥹💔 I already miss them, and I genuinely cannot wait for the next book.

I have been delaying leaving a review because this book was so good I don't even know where to start.

Without getting into the specifics at first, the reason I gave it 5 stars because I cancelled plans to read it, I read it in a day, and I kept thinking about it after I read it to the point where I was almost worried about going back to real life. I think I made my friends and family want to scream because I kept talking about it so much after.

For some people it's the character/character arcs that are most important, for others it's the plot, or the world building. I think this had it all.

Cinnamon, Cordelia's horse, has got to be my favourite aspect of the book, after the relationship between Cordelia and Aegir. I think it's good writing when the relationship with a character that doesn't even speak leaves such an impression in your heart. Cordelia is not the same person without Cinnamon.

The world-building was the next best thing to me, particularly the magic system and the culture in the different parts of the world. It would have been easy for Aegir to be the big bad demi-fae lord but the fact that humans are as capable of wielding the elements as fae are and that evened out the playing field - I liked it. The tropes are there, but they're not the same tired tropes that make you want to roll your eyes. Cordelia is a lesson in self-worth- there's none of that "I'm not like other girls" rubbish, she's intelligent, but you don't hear about it every five seconds, and the fact that she's a servant is neither here nor there to both her and Aegir (in fact the only character who refused to see her as anything more than a maidservant was very sorry indeed). I'd read it for Cordelia alone even though Aegir is my new book boyfriend.

I definitely recommend this if you want romantasy, quiet yearning, elemental magic, strong female characters and a MMC who is quietly confident, with other diverse supporting characters that aren't contrived.

I just finished Behind Frosted Eyes and I’m genuinely sad it’s over.

Cordelia Wildheart has no memory of who she is, where she came from, or what happened to her family. Raised in an orphanage in the Land of Sand, she’s spent years holding onto the hope that one day her memories will return. When she learns of a possible way to uncover the truth, she’s pulled into a dangerous journey involving ancient powers, and secrets that could change everything she thought was her truth.

What I loved most about this story was Cordelia’s determination to find where she belongs. More than recovering her memories, she longs for family, connection, and a place to call home.

And then there’s Aegir.

The ice-wielding prince from the Land of Ice completely stole my heart. What starts as cautious curiosity slowly grows into something deeper, and the slow-burn romance between him and Cordelia was one of my favorite parts of the book. Aegir is fiercely devoted, protective, and willing to do far more for Cordelia than he probably should.

The world-building was immersive without being overwhelming. Between the Elemental Lands, the mystery surrounding the Water Priestesses, ancient bargains, and the secrets hidden beneath Cordelia’s missing memories some answers seemed to lead to bigger questions, and I loved every twist along the way.

That ending left me desperate for more. Thankfully it was not a cliffhanger and the reader knows exactly what will happen or SHOULD happen in book 2. I can’t wait to see how it plays out and if it will answer some of my questions.

If you love:
❄️ Slow-burn romance
❄️ Found family
❄️ Memory loss mysteries
❄️ Protective, devoted MMCs
❄️ Elemental magic
❄️ Ancient bargains and hidden truths
❄️ Fantasy adventures filled with twists

I NEED TO TALK ABOUT THIS BOOK.

Jessa Conche, I am sending you my therapy bill.

I picked up Behind Frosted Eyes expecting a fantasy romance, and somehow ended up emotionally attached to every character while experiencing every feeling known to mankind.

This book had me smiling, swooning, stressing, crying, and staring at my Kindle in disbelief. More than once.

Cordelia completely captured my heart. She’s strong, vulnerable, determined, and so easy to root for. Watching her journey unfold had me invested from the very first chapter, and I genuinely felt every triumph and heartbreak alongside her.

The characters in this book feel real. The relationships are beautifully written, the emotional connections run deep, and the character development is incredible. Every interaction mattered, and every chapter left me needing just one more.

The romance? Chef’s kiss. 🤌

The tension, the longing, the emotions, the moments that make you grin like an idiot at your screen… it was everything I wanted and more.

What truly stood out for me was how much this story made me feel. It’s the kind of book that wraps itself around your heart and refuses to let go. Even now, days later, I’m still thinking about these characters.

And that ending?!

Not a cliffhanger, not rushed, just the perfect balance of satisfaction and “I need the next book immediately.”

If you love:
🖤 Fantasy romance
🖤 Strong heroines
🖤 Emotional reads
🖤 Found family vibes
🖤 Tension and longing
🖤 Characters you’ll obsess over
🖤 Books that leave you staring at the wall afterwards

Then you need to read Behind Frosted Eyes.

I laughed.
I cried.
I became emotionally attached.
I have zero regrets.

Now excuse me while I impatiently wait for book two. 🖤😭

Shoutout to Jess’s Conche for providing me with an ARC copy of Behind Frosted Eyes. I’m leaving a review of my own free will.

Behind Frosted Eyes was a very interesting and unique read. Our FMC Cordelia or Delia was surrendered to an orphanage when she was 10 after being in an accident with her parents. She has no memories of her life or parents before that. She is then sent to work in the Castle in the region near the orphanage as a servant. She is first the servant of one of the princes and they become really good friends. He eventually leaves and when the prince of the Ice Wielders Aegir comes to the castle she is made to serve him. This story has elemental magic but some of the regions the magic is passed down through bloodlines and in others the gods of that region chooses who gets the magic. There is a forced peace treaty signed between all of the different regions by the King of the Fire Wielders. There is political intrigue, hidden identities, found family, quests, training etc in this book.

I could not put this book down! It was so invested in trying to figure out who our FMC was, if our MMC was going to leave her like everyone else in her life had, what was going to happen to her because her boss was a real prick, and if she would ever get the answers that she had been seeking for over 10 years! I went through a range of emotions reading this story. I spent most of the time tense and anxious but that was also sad moments, happy moments, funny moments and wtf moments! I am still very invested in where this story will go next and cannot wait for book 2 to come out whenever it does. I’ll be patiently waiting on that but enjoy this book when it releases on June 29, 2026! 4.75 ⭐️

*Behind Frosted Eyes* by Jessa Conche was one of those books that completely pulled me in from the very first chapter. I found myself deeply invested in Cordelia's journey as she searched for answers about her past and slowly uncovered pieces of her forgotten memories. Watching her grow throughout the story and learn more about herself made her a character I could really connect with.

One of my favourite aspects of the book was the cast of characters Cordelia meets along the way. Each relationship felt meaningful and added something special to her journey. I loved seeing the connections between the characters develop naturally as the story progressed, making me even more emotionally invested in their lives.

The dynamic between Cordelia and the Lord of Ice was another highlight for me. What starts as a tense and intriguing relationship gradually evolves over the course of the story, and I found myself eagerly anticipating every interaction between them. Their chemistry and character development kept me hooked from beginning to end.

The story is filled with mystery, emotion, and discovery, and I genuinely struggled to put it down. Every time I thought I would read just one more chapter, I ended up reading several more. Then came the ending—which left me absolutely desperate for the next book. The cliffhanger was so good, and I cannot wait to find out what happens next for Cordelia and the people she has come to care about.

If you enjoy fantasy romance, compelling character growth, intriguing mysteries, and relationships that develop beautifully over time, I highly recommend giving this book a chance.

Thank you Jessa Conche for the opportunity to ARC read Behind Frosted Eyes!

I will admit I struggled with the first 50ish pages. But then, like a brick wall, the book hit me so hard and I COULD NOT put it down. I cannot believe this is Jessa’s first published work - it’s so complex and compelling like a well seasoned fantasy author. I’m excited for book 2 and hopeful that we get to see more from the other characters in either the second book or a spin off series!

What worked well: What an FMC arc - the character growth is unreal. The yearning from the MMC is exquisitely drawn out and the chemistry between the 2 main characters was palpable. The magic! I think using the elements is always such a beautiful way to portray magic and Jessa succeeds with making it shine. The male-female friendships are fun and platonic in the best way. The main characters were dynamic and interesting. The adventure was unique and engrossing.

What didn’t fully work for me: Sometimes I thought there was a little too much detail. The book is quite long, particularly the middle section when the FMC & MMC are separated. I think we need a family tree to go along with the other graphics because sometimes I was struggling with who was who and who was related to whom.

Set in the world of Lyrantheia
Our FMC Delia has no memories of the first 10 years of her life and is a secret she guards closely.
Spends five years in an orphanage making a close bond with one of the sisters who becomes like a mother to her.
At 15 she is told she is too old to stay so needs to get work and this is how she ends up working in the castle where the King and his family live.
Now our story truly begins.
So now a servant and bff to a young prince
Bonding with a horse called cinnamon
A journey of self discovery to get back her memories

Enter our MMC a visiting Prince that Delia has to serve.
He's broody and totally falls first.

I love their dynamic and how it evolved

Jessa explores the differences in not only their stations but their cultures so well.

I did manage to work out a major plot point straight away but that didn't take away from the enjoyment of reading this. When it was finally revealed I was really pleased

There are side characters that I loved and only a couple that I openly hated and I think everyone that reads this will feel the same.

For me this is a slow paced book to start with and it did take me a little bit to get into it but that was purely down to my previous read and how I was still reeling from that. So I highly recommend choosing carefully where you place this in your TBR pile as it needs to be given all the respect it deserves

The ending makes me want to read book 2 (please tell me there will be a book 2)

Highly recommend this book

**Advanced Reader Copy Review**

Cordelia is a young, orphaned servant that cannot remember the details of her childhood or her parents following a tragic accident. Her life changed drastically the day that she serves the ice fae prince, Aegir.

First can i just say…WOW! This book filled my cup in so many ways. Cordelia is a FMC that i wanted to hug so many times while reading this book. Her strength and resilience is unmatched. Aside from that, despite the darkness she experiences in life, she still exudes kindness and love to those around her.

You will find in this book, there is so much more to her and our MMC Aergis. A very slow-burn read, but the fire that commences is an inferno.

You’ll experience heartbreak, excitement, laughs, and tension that will have you on the edge of your seat.

I genuinely loved the world building and elemental magic. It was so refreshing along with being unique. The book itself doesn’t even feel 600+ pages long because i truly envelops you.

I won’t say too much because i don’t want to give anything away, but all of the characters in this book will truly leave an impact on you.

Also can i just say, cinnamon?!?! As a horse she never said a word, but i fell IN LOVE with her.

And the bonus chapters?!?! They truly filled my cup and heart. I cannot WAIT for book 2!

I wasn't sure what I was going to expect from this especially from the description. But it was so much more than I expected. Cordelia from the beginning was such a unique character especially when switching from the past to the present. Throughout the story you see her grow & mature with the help of Aegir. The romance between Cordelia & Aegir I loved so much. They bantered but they fell for each other hard & I just loved how it made them better. The world to me was so fascinating, especially the history behind it. All these kingdoms are separated with their unique powers & how some get along & some don't. The journey that Cordelia went through was so great to read since with that journey we saw how badass & intelligent she really is. And all the secrets that were uncovered were jaw dropping. I really did enjoy everything about this. The magic, world, friends, love, secrets & just the characters were so spectacularly written that I didn't want to put this book down for a second. I was so immersed into this world & its characters that I was so sad when it ended. And those last few chapters, OH MY GOD. Those last few chapters & the cliffhanger that came with them were really what made sure how much I loved this book. I really can't wait to see the sequel ,if there is one, to answer some questions & to resolve so much. THANK YOU JESSA FOR LETTING ME BE AN ARC READER.

🗝 Lost memories

Jessa packs a punch in this first installment with immersive world-building, adventure, intrigue, and romance that keeps the pages turning. I'm 💯 invested in what’s coming - I know it's going to be BIG! The bonus chapters were a great addition, giving insight into characters’ stories and I'M READY FOR MORE!!

Lyrantheia’s eight realms are in turmoil. The fire wielders of Naar have killed the royal family of Ilma and, driven by a secret agenda, have forced the remaining six realms into a peace treaty.

Cordelia Wildheart is a wildcard. She's a servant in the Sand Castle of Ramel who was found alone as a child with no memory of her life before that point. She would do almost anything to have her memories back - travel across land and sea, bargain her heart, even make a dark deal for her soul.

Aegir, a demi-fae prince, and his Vanguard of Ice are allegedly visiting Ramel from Silch to purchase glass made from the sand wielders for the ice castle. Rumor has it that the ice fae are unhinged brutes, and as much as she tries, Cordelia can't seem to stay out of Aegir's way.

I absolutely devoured Behind Frosted Eyes and couldn't put it down.

The story was really easy to follow, with the backstory revealed naturally throughout rather than all at once. I loved uncovering the mystery alongside Cordelia as she tried to piece together who she really was.

Cordelia and Aegir's relationship was exactly my kind of slow burn—lots of tension, lingering looks, little touches, bargains, and a protective MMC who can literally freeze people's limbs off. And honestly, that bathroom scene at the beginning? Cordelia is a better woman than me because I would not have been looking away. 👀

As someone who grew up around horses, I also loved the horse elements, especially Cinnamon. Throw in elemental magic, one horse, soul bonds, and a MMC who gave me serious Khan vibes, and I was sold.

This book made me feel everything—shock, sadness, frustration, happiness—and while it answered a lot of questions by the end, it also left me desperate to see where book two goes. I genuinely think people are going to be talking about this one.

Tropes & vibes:
✨ Slow burn
✨ One horse
✨ Touch her and die
✨ Lost memories
✨ Elemental magic
✨ Soul bonds
✨ Protective MMC

I had such a great time reading this book, an absolute page turner! 4.5⭐️❤️
From the very beginning, I was drawn into the story by the writing style, the details woven throughout that brought the world to life and the characters who felt easy to connect with and root for.
The romance was my favourite part. The slow burn was done so well, with just the right amount of yearning, tension, and anticipation. I loved watching their relationship develop and when the 🌶️ scenes finally paid off, they were tasteful, meaningful, and well worth the wait.
I also really enjoyed the lost memories storyline and how the plot twists were woven in. They came at just the right moments and kept me hooked.
What makes this book even more impressive is that it's the author's first novel. It feels incredibly well written for a debut novel, and you can tell how much care went into both the characters and the story.
If you love a romantasy with an elemental world, adventure, found family, forced proximity, plenty of yearning, emotional barriers to break down, and a satisfying slow-burn romance, I'd definitely recommend picking this up.
I wholeheartedly enjoyed this read and am already counting down the days until book two. If this is what the author can do with her debut, I can't wait to see what's next.

Thank you Jessa Conche for offering me this ARC in exchange for an honest review! Trust me this book hit me exactly when I needed it to ❤️.

This story has mysteries, adventures, trials?, and of course the best slow burn romance you could ask for. Jessa managed to check all the boxes and then some.

Delia, our FMC, has no memories from before the age of 10 and has been living her life wondering who she is. We go along a journey of her discovering not only her past but all the strength, courage, and loyalty she never realized she had. Her character growth is very satisfying.

Aegir 🥰 what a cinnamon roll. Absolutely adore him. Honestly the man can do no wrong ( please keep is that way Jessa!)

Lastly the side characters, absolutely love and really help Delia through her growth and story.

My only down would be that a bit of the middle took a little too long for me. It wasn’t bad and I would say it is definitely integral to the story. I just kept thinking that I would be ok if the story moved on a bit.

Beyond that, this is a great world, magic system, lore heavy story that ends with such a feeling of satisfaction yet also leave you knowing more great things are to come!

ARC Reader!
First off, I am incredibly honored and grateful that I was permitted to be an ARC reader!!

If you are a romantasy reader this is a MUSSTTTTTT READ!!!

This book was/is everything I needed! I wish I had read more books this month so that this next statement has more gravity. Best read of my month!!! I am so obsessed with it. It checks all my favorite tropes. Beautifully written. I love when books have maps and/or breakdowns of species etc.
I love how all of Cordeila's relationships with side characters are given attention and time to understand the corresponding dynamic/relationship. Her relationship with Cinnamon is such a cute touch. I love how her relationship with the MMC gradually evolved, and the way it did. (I won't say much beyond that in case of a potential spoiler).

I definitely could've finished this book quicker, but I purposely procrastinated so it could last longer. I NEED book 2 ASAP!

Favorite quote: "I would let the whole world burn in your stead"
Spicy level 🌶️. I do prefer more spicy and hope to see a bit more in book 2. However, the amount of yearning and tension makes up for it!

-One horse
-One bed at an inn
-Slow burn
-Morally grey MMC
-servant x royal
(Other mircotropes/tropes may be spoilers, so I may update after publication day.)

Book 1 of The Shrouded Elements Duology

This is an excellent debut novel. Jessa Conche does a great job of developing this world.

Readers will experience considerate world building, robust character development, suspenseful and fun adventures as characters travel through other lands.

Cordelia lived in an orphanage and, at the appropriate time, was transferred to be a human servant and forced to serve a visiting Ice Prince. Cordelia strives to uncover her repressed memories that have plagued her since she was young. As she continues to discover who she truly is, she encounters various dangers during her journey. She must decide to pay a price for truth - either her soul or her heart.

Aegir, the Ice Prince, is protective and devoted to his love. When he is forced into a relationship with a princess, new drama unfolds.

I did enjoy the additional POV's at the book's conclusion. It added some nice depth to the read.

Tropes
* Forced proximity
* Yearning
* Who am I
* Elemental wielding
* Political intrigue and nation conflict
* Powerful rulers

Firstly, my thanks go to the author for this ARC. It was a privilege to be chosen to read it.

This is a really good first book from this author. It has been lovingly written with lots of detail. It's rather unique too as a large proportion has the MFC heading out on her own journey. I have to say that I enjoyed this part in particular. She gets to grow & learn

To start with, I did find the first part to be a little bit too detailed. There are parts that don't really add to the tale & I felt it needed more pace. I was also concerned It was going to echo similar stories, but then once it got going I was totally hooked! There's intrigue, plot twists, romance, spice (not too much & more romantic with a touch of explicit 🌶️🌶️), characters I loved (I am looking at you Marshen) & a horse.

Finally, there's no cliffhanger. The story is tied up with a clear of idea on what needs to happen next/where it's going. Do I have questions? Yes, of course. I cannot wait to see what happens next, but I feel very content with where I am too, just don't keep me waiting too long!

She doesn’t know where she came from. She can’t remember her past, she is desperate to find the answers, all she knows is that her parents died and she lived, now living as a servant for the king, she meets him a prince that will turn her world upside down, giving her the courage she already had to find the answers she seeks. He comes in search of alliance, but found so much more. I did not want to leave this world or these characters. I painstakingly read this slow because I enjoyed it so much. We follow Delia, our main character and her journey to discovering who she is. I want to make this spoiler free, but I absolutely loved our FMC. Her courage, her determination, her fire, her spirit she is everything I want in a character. And our MMC Aegir He will burn the world for this woman, his gentleness, how their banter is the way the relationship develops I can’t get enough. I also liked how the magical system is, think avatar last Airbender, but with Faye. I will be recommending this book to everyone.

Wow what a beautiful book!! I absolutely devoured this book. It had me hooked from the very beginning. The pace was just perfect. The world building was perfectly balanced throughout the whole book. Even though I was able not o guess the plot, I was able to enjoy every second of this book. I was laughing with the fun banter between the characters, I was screaming along with the bad moments. The way it was written had me picturing all the fun and bad scenes in my head while reading. And I absolutely love a memory loss plot!!!

I loved Cordelia’s character and her sarcasm. Her interactions/banter with Aegir and Marshen had me laughing and screaming. I loved seeing her grow into a confident and fierce woman. The slow burn between Cordelia and Aegir was perfect. The side characters were all lovable. And Galen’s POV at the end was heartbreaking.

The story ends with a good foundation for the next book and I can’t wait to see how it goes!

Thank you Jessa Conche for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC!

I received an ARC from the author.

This debut romantasy is the first in a duology, and after reading this, I'm already waiting for the next part. Meet Cordelia Wildheart, because she's a name you're going to remember. I think her name kind of speaks for itself; she was wild, strong, determined, and everything that a heroine should be. I loved following her journey. As for Aegir, he had my heart pounding.

I enjoyed the representation of friendship in the story; Cordelia's friend Sabi was probably one of my favourite characters. The bond between Cordelia and Cinnamon went to my heart too.

As a reader, I love how authors create an entire world for readers to lose themselves in, and that was what happened here. I expected this to be a long read, but I finished it in one evening. It took me a little while to come back to reality, but I think this story and its characters will stay with me.

Thank you to the author for sending me an ARC copy.

Thank you to Jesse Conche for the chance to read the ARC!

Really enjoyed this book, and I cannot wait for the sequel!

✨ Interesting, diverse & loveable characters
✨ Elemental magic that was a bit more than just earth, fire, water & wind
✨ Found family
✨ Adventure and mystery
✨ Cinnamon the horse! 🐎🤎

📝 Felt some of the chapters were a little too short, which broke the flow of reading for me
📝 A lot of information is provided in a short span at the start, which made it a little hard to get into the book originally, but persevere and it is worth it!

The ending was great, not a cliffhanger, but open and leaving me ready for the next book. I personally love a multiple POV story, but the single POV worked well for this story. The extra chapters at the end with the different POVs were great for me! I hope the multiple POVs continues in book 2.

Overall 4/5⭐, engaging storyline that kept me hooked

This book had hidden identities, fae, secrets and magic. Cordelia grew up in an orphanage and can't remember anything from her childhood. Aegir is a fae prince with ice magic visiting the castle that she is a servant in. There was a lot that happened in this book with plenty of twists and turns. There was very little downtime for the characters. I enjoyed reading Cordelia's journey from sad and mostly subservient to strong and demanding and not just physically. Her meeting Marshen was the best thing that happened to her. I know he didn't train her like Aegir and his vanguard, but he let her lead the way and choose the path for her journey to find answers. He wasn't afraid to tell her when her plans seemed delulu to him, but he still supported her through them. She needed that. Then there's Aegir. He is broody and possessive, but super secretive even to the very end. We were really kept guessing what his intentions for her were as miscommunication is a pretty large trope here. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I will definitely be reading the next one.

4.5 ⭐️ but I rounded to 5 because i enjoyed the book

I was given the opportunity to the ARC Behind Frosted Eyes, and I wanted to reach out and share how much I enjoyed the journey.

The character development and world-building were exceptional. Cordelia is an incredibly resilient and tenacious protagonist; seeing her evolution and survival instincts throughout her "metamorphosis" kept me completely engaged. Her complex dynamic with Lord Aegir Hailin—and the strong miscommunication trope between them—made for a fascinating read. Additionally, the banter between Delia and Marshen was top-tier; Marshen is truly the loyal best friend I didn't know she needed.

I particularly loved the clever clues hidden throughout the narrative and the memorable scene involving the ticket booth. While I found the flow occasionally jarring in certain sections, the overall experience was deeply rewarding.

4.5 ⭐️ but I rounded to 5 because i enjoyed the book

One of my God-tier reads of this year, this follows a story of lost memories, found family, determination and discovering the identity you have had hidden all along. The relationships between the characters is complex and they do large amounts of growth for one book. I loved the FMC Cordellia and her affinity for horses. I have always found the best moments from a character come from their deepest desires to aid the sick and the less fortunate. There is a sexy Fae MMC called Aegir and he has some growing to do as well during the story. Miscommunication is eventually worked out and that is growth in itself. The world is descriptive and lush to read about and the writer really makes you feel like you are along for the journey!
I cannot wait as this is a debut to se what else Jessa puts out next !

Elemental wielding, forced proximity, lost memories, thick emotional walls, touch her and freeze, thin shower curtain, yearning, a prince and a servant, dangerous bargains and buried secrets!

Such a well written book! Amazing world building with well hashed out cultures, religions, gods and elemental powers!

The banter and teasing was top tier and had me giggling and kicking my feet. Absolutely fell in love with the FMC, she was sassy with a sharp tongue and a complicated buried past.

The MMC was perfect! All of my favourite tropes! Protective, yearning, touch her and die, would burn the world down for her!

The way everything came together as the story progressed, I cannot wait for the next book to come out!

I definitely recommend this story it was very original and I could not put it down.

I appreciated many things within this tale:
- I wanted Cinnamon to be my new best friend and the lengths that Cordelia went to in the early portions of the book probably speak better to her character than anything else.
- Sand wielding, as a magic, was new to me and I really appreciated that
- Aegir’s quiet devotion to Cordelia up until he confesses his feelings for her was a joy

I will say that I agree with another reviewer that the book felt too long and like it could have been sectioned into two stories. This is just personal opinion/ preference, but some of the spicier scenes felt a little stunted, like the pacing was off.

But, overall, a definitely entertaining romance fantasy!

Thank you to the author for allowing me to read the book prior to publication.

I really enjoyed this!!

Cordelia is a servant in Sand Castle, she grew up in an orphanage and has no memory of her life or parents before she woke up there after an accident.

Her job is miserable due to the abusive man in charge and Cordelia sees no options ahead for her ... until Aegir the Ice Prince and his Vanguard arrive!

At first she is terrified of this big beautiful but brutish man, but is he the brute he appears to be? Does he have feelings for her or is this all part of a fae game?

Cordelia decides to hunt down the truth about her past, but she never expected what she finds!

Love these characters and their chemistry is fabulous 👌 I'm looking forward to reading more!! In fact I got angry that I had to do anything apart from read this book! 🤣
