This book felt so, so contrived. Fake and forced.

The writing was so bad.

The author also puts a space between every single sentence.

It was so irritating to read.

It's very obviously a cash grab by authors to artificially inflate their page count and get more money. And it's embarrassing and tacky, also extremely annoying.

I liked that he was very slime like. But that's, literally, the only thing I liked.

Instant connection and zero feels. Just poor writing. No interest, no tension. Stilted dialogue that didn't sound like real conversation. Big plot holes in a simple plot.

I've been on the fence about this author because her books look like cheap kindle trash with AI covers. And frankly they are. Zero substance to this and it wasn't even that fun. Unfortunately, I do not recommend.

I Suspect AI for Satisfied by the Slime

I’m just sad. I’ve read this author before and really enjoyed her other books, but I’m 58% through and it just screams AI to me. I think it was at least edited by a human, but I can’t tell. I’m sad because I thought the premise was really cool. What can we do with a sentient slime MMC? I’m sad because I know we live in a world of deadlines and needing to pay bills, but does that give us the right to use AI which has stolen from a ton of authors? I don’t know what this author is going through, but I can’t abide AI writing. I’m rating this book 1 star because of AI.

OZ has been on this planet for a long time. Many years on his own. Looking at the world around him through creaks in the wall or door or such. He decides to get out and experience life with a human. So he makes an online post to find the right person, since his first experience didn't go over well at all.
Maisie is overworked and overstimulated being a business owner and operator. She finds a listing after scrolling on her phone late at night and pays for a gadget. When said gadget comes it is bigger than she thought and it seems to be a completely different item.
It turns out that they are suited to each other in more ways than one. If only she didn't live in a town with a bunch of busy bodies. Things take a not good turn when her grandma comes back early. But with the help of her grandma things sort themselves out.

We not only get a great romance read we get a local mystery unveiled too!

A book about sentient amoeba monsters and the crafty women they love has no right to be this good, but it is.

Edit: Lowkey, I just remembered that I was a big shipper of Major Kira and Odo from "Star Trek: Deep Space 9," so that's probably why I'm so down with the self-aware ooze.

Okay, last night after making the vastly unwise choice of scrolling on FB, I stumbled across this book on Kindle Unlimited.  My one and only thought was god yes I deserve to read this. It sounded silly and strange and like it could be the perfect distraction from my anxieties. I did in fact read it and loved it.

I loved how strange Oz was. The Slime went let me provide the most honest description of who I am, slapped a random price tag on himself, and then went I am literally on the market. Please choose me. By the way if all descriptions of purchases were as meticulous and direct as Oz's, the internet would collectively explode. How would humanity function with such power? Unsure frankly. 

Maisie is just a girl trying to forge a soap business in the dessert. Before you tell me that is kind of outlandish, I would like to point out this is a slime romance. And also I know someone who owns an entire business of handmade fancy soaps and Shea butter. A soap business is doable assuming you like hard work and lye. Needless to say, a sentient slime was NOT on the agenda since she assumed it was .... something else .... when she purchased it. But it is a romance novel so it was certainly on my agenda.

The two form a patchwork of connection and trust throughout the book. Maisie really struggles with the fear of being rejected and ostracized by her community for the relationship. It felt a little bit similar to how I feel in the queer community. In fact, monster romances really explore relationships outside the norm and celebrate their complexity. They offer the chance for anybody who has been judged — for things like sexuality, age, poly, kinks, etc. — to be represented. So it was nice to see a heroine struggle with the social anxiety and concerns since it felt relatable even if it felt selfish. This book was cute and a vibe.  I enjoyed the desert setting and I found it cozy with a unique enough premise. It may not win most memorable monster romance book of the year but I still adored it. Oz and Maisie hold a special place in my heart. Also I wish I could buy her soap and for Slime massages to be a thing because my back and shoulders need help desperately.

I've never read a book by Ivy Sparks, and now I know that was a mistake! I am headed to read anything else she has released!

Maisie is an exhausted and over-worked woman with a looming deadline. Who hasn't burned the candle at both ends, continuously, while ignoring their body's pleas for help and rest, amirite? Scraping the bottom of her bank account, Maisie decides to order what she thinks is a special massager to help with her accumulating tension, but she doesn't realize just how special her order really is.

I found the writing natural and descriptive in a way that pulls you into the story. Sometimes, monster stories can be written so generically that you could substitute any one character/monster with another and it wouldn't change anything about it. Not so with this story-- and I have read MANY stories over the years. Ivy created a sweet tale about connection, love, belonging, and acceptance in a way that didn't reel rushed or contrived. And it was done without feeling formulaic or recycled.

I started this book about an hour before I was supposed to go to sleep for the night, and I'm not embarrassed to admit that I couldn't put it down until I was finished. I thought I would find a spot to stop after some light reading, but well... me from last night has zero regrets, even if the bags under my eyes want to tell a different story. I absolutely would recommend this book to any and everyone looking for sweet and spicy!.

I love this series by Ivy Sparks. Each story and monster is so unique and well written. Oz is a slime monster form 70+ years of his life he lived in a cave and the last 3 he's lived in a storage container. He's always been on the outside looking in even when the veil fell and humans were made very a where of monsters he was to different to find a place to belong. So he places himself for sale to find companionship. Massie is a young woman living in a small town in the desert. She makes homemade soaps and bath products and works herself to death. A man she trusted lied to her spent her money and then left. She exhausted and starved for company. When she see the add for massager she orders it never thinking she was about to get a Sentient slime monster. This is a story about bone deep Loneliness and frying to find a place to belong and be accepted. The characters are well written you can feel Oz's sadness and loneliness and masies exhaustion and anxiety while trying to keep her life and business afloat. The characters and concept were adorable but…

So, in typical Ivy Sparks fashion, the main character and love interest are absolutely adorable. I loved both of them and the spice was perfect.

That being said, I have some deep concerns. The writing style has absolutely changed and shows obvious evidence of AI usage. I think it is likely that the original manuscript had been run through AI for editing and polish and was therefore changed to the typical AI phrasing and patterns. Some chapters are worse about it than others, though. There are some chapters where it feels like the original Ivy Sparks comes through. Unfortunately, the fact that there’s obvious AI usage leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth.

Ivy, if you read these, I beg of you not to do this again. Whatever happened here, please don’t. I really adore this series and it would break my heart for the next one to feel like AI again. I would probably have to stop reading. 🥺🥺🥺🥺
These books were already very well written without the use of AI. So I don’t know if it was you, or maybe a ghost writer or editor who cut corners but it really didn’t do the book any favors. The ones that come before it are much more well written. 😞

Gleeful Goblin Review: This is technically Book # 6 in Ivy's series, but thankfully they're all great as standalones. This is a little bit more "unusual" of a monster partner than previous books compared to your standard minotaur, naga, and so on. But that's most definitely a feature, not a bug. The setup for how our main characters meet is equally unusual, in a charming way. Our FMC Maisie is drowning her proverbial sorrows around life and love one night, feeling some aches and pains physically as well as emotionally, and like I'm sure many of us have done she makes an impulsive online purchase of what she thought would be a massager....and it is one in a very round about way. ;) Imagine Maisie's surprise when what arrives for her isn't a small, discrete box but rather a crate that could easily contain something the size of a fridge! And rather than a mechanical buzzing buddy, there's an 8 foot gooey guy with a thirst to understand the world around him and experience life in all its glory, including love. The books in this series are always a delightful retreat for me and I can't WAIT for this to come out in audiobook and add it to my collection like I have with its predecessors. 5/5 Stars

From the title and front cover I was not expecting anything more than a strange paranormal romp, cute, fluffy and inconsequential. However this book has much more to offer.

The plot is not unusual, with a stranger coming to a small town and linking up with a local girl. Here however he arrives as a result of a speculative purchase online, late at night and a few glasses of wine.

Oz and Maisie are great characters and they are supported by a fine range of well crafted minor characters. The book covers some very real themes of loneliness, small town prejudice, racism, acceptance and the build of a romantic relationship between very different people.

The humour is delightful, most particularly during the early stages of the story. The sex and intimacy are well handled and erotic. The drama fits well and doesn't go over the top. You get a great feeling for the place and atmosphere in an isolated community by a desert.

This was a strange, yet addictive monster romance.

I absolutely loved the idea of a slime monster romance. It is so fascinating how different Oz is to a human. His mind is very alien in a way, but oh so sweet and gentle. He is the biggest gooey cinnamon roll ever! The wildly different physical aspect alone lead to some unique spicy scenes. Being able to change your shape, warmth, and texture is a whole lot of fun!

I really love Maisie too. She is so hurt, alone, and burnt out in this kinda racist small town in the middle of nowhere. You get all that not so great stuff that comes from living out in the boonies too. It is hard for her to accept that she deserves someone to take care of her and genuinely want to help without asking anything in return.

The romance so sugary sweet in the best way, and the spice will heat things up nicely too.

Overall this was a fantastic quick read, and hands down one of the most unique monster romances I've ever read!

I went into this knowing absolutely nothing about the author, or her type of books. A coworker said she was reading it & I had just finished my current read so I snatched up a copy.

The book is pure monster-banging entertainment, and thats what I appreciates abouts it. It is well written, although I take issue with certain moments that felt 'for the plot's sake' without making sense but that was also me kinda overthinking it a bit.

I also do admit that I was around 46% in and had been considering DNFing because the spice was a little bland for my taste. I didn't feel like I was getting satisfying sex scenes, but erotic massage at best. I was VERY much corrected further on in the book, so kudos to Ms Sparks for that and I am sorry for almost giving up.

The overall plot is cute, and fun but it wont be anything life-changing, if that's what you're looking for. This is a low-stakes fluffy monster smut book, but it is very confident in its lane, deservedly so.

I usually enjoy many of this author’s books, but this one just seemed a little off with the writing.

It was well-edited, probably by a human. But every paragraph of exposition was just simile after simile. The similes made sense, but there sure was a lot of ‘em.

This isn’t the first author I’ve followed that suddenly changed up their writing tone to something really formulaic. I don’t expect high-brow literature from these books, but come on.

I understand that writing for a living must be stressful on the imagination after a while. I get it. And I don’t have a huge problem with formulaic monster smut. An author could use a template for every book they write and as long as they wrote it honestly, then I’d be ok with it. You can be formulaic and still have chemistry between characters.

Oh well. This is putting me even further into my reading slump.

You know what, it wasn't terrible. I thought reading about a woman in a relationship with a slime was maybe going to be a bit beyond my limit of tolerance...but if reincarnated as a slime is a thing on TV, why not in romance? And you know, I quite liked the slime. For a dude who spent 80 years with limited contact with humans, he did extremely well and he's a great partner.

I didn't love the insta-lust/love. But I rarely do, even when it has something akin to a mate bond to explain it.

I didn't love the weird nosy neighbors or their stupid uncalled for reaction to the slime guy. I also found the grandmother and her side story...unneeded. The whole thing could have been ripped out and nit probably would have improved the story.

But if I only focus on the main characters, wasn't so bad. And their spicy times were definitely a bit different. Lol

I am a huge fan of monster romances, and this one is soooooo good! At first, I didn't know if I would like it, but from the first page, I was hooked- which resulted in me staying up to 3:30 am finishing the book! Maisie has had a horrible time since her ex emptied their bank account. The business is holding on by a thread. So while enjoying a glass of wine, she orders a "personal relaxation device". This is how she meets Oz. She bought him! The plot is fantastic and sweetly spicy. Oz is a gelatinous sweetheart and perfect for Maisie. There are some great twists in this book that kept me on my toes. Excellent book, I will definitely be rereading!!!!

I finished the book. I thought I was a pleasant read, but there were a few things that didn't make sense to me.

Then I read the bonus epilogue, and then things definitely didn't make sense.
When Gram made that offhand comment about them having kids, I thought it wouldn't be biologically possible. I thought they'd be one of those couples that are happy even without children.

Come to find that the have a child in the bonus but with no explanation to how it happened. I kinda want to take a star away from the book just because there's no explanation. The explanation didn't need to make complete sense but I would have still appreciate one for the why, when and how Ellie was conceived or made or whatever happened

The characters were very appealing and likeable and perfectly steamy together. Plot was intriguing and exciting and well paced. World building was excellent and impressive. Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend.

2.5 ⭐️ now idk if it’s cause im just coming off of books that were pretty long and detailed. But this was just lacking some substance. Like I thought we’d learn why she was hurting so much, almost hinted at an accident but nothing was ever actually said. Nothing was mentioned of her parents, just her Gram. Very little back story on him but I guess that’s kind of the point? Like was he tortured by researchers or kept against his will or what? Nothing too sure. While I liked how the touch starved and in pain FMC got relief, all that happened with oz was rapid fire. Spice included. Went from like mild to “double” very quick. And yeah it was just ok, but I definitely wanted more from it.

I like the story but...

I went into this book expecting something like the author's previous books in this series. I enjoyed them all and the writing style. This one, while having enjoyable characters and story, had a very different writing style.

There were too many similies and choppy incomplete sentences. I don't want to say it's AI writing like others are because I'm not interested in harming someone's career based on a suspicion.

I will continue reading this series if more come out, in the hopes that she goes back to her previous writing style. This one was not for me.

A purchase that isn't quite what Maisie expected turns into a life changing experience when she finds Oz in the crate that is delivered to her. Maisie is exhausted and her body is in pain as she tries to complete a large order for her soaps, an order that could clear her debt. As Oz helps her in ways she never thought possible, a relationship develops that defies expectations. Secrets, suspicion, discoveries and surprises are found throughout this story creating a book that you won't be able to put down.

The premise definitely grabbed my attention: Maisie orders a "personal wellness device" after a few too many glasses of wine, only for a giant, eight-foot-tall crate containing a shapeshifting slime monster to be delivered to her door.

There is immediate chemistry between Maisie and OZ; he is sweet, charming, and very talented at "deep-tissue" relaxation. Oz is the ultimate cinnamon-roll MMC; he is attentive, devoted, and VERY adaptable to whatever Maisie needs. I enjoyed the balance of sweet & spice and the tender moments & vulnerability.

I also enjoyed the fast-paced plot involving a small-town mystery that puts Oz in the hot seat and nosy townspeople with monster trust issues. This is a cozy standalone monster romance with a dose of humor, a heart-melting and protective monster that you will be thoroughly "Satisfied by the Slime" and their happily-ever-after!.

I really enjoyed the story! The author has brought to life a unique kind of monster, giving it depth and character. I loved seeing the love blossom between our main characters and witnessing how the small town embraced something that was different from what they knew.

The epilogue was wonderful too. I was curious about the MMC’s future, and I was so happy to find an epilogue that gave us that glimpse. It was a lovely surprise!.

Bet the MAGAS would busrt a blood vessel

I absolutely loved this story. I've always felt that love is love, no matter what shape, color, ethnicity, gender, size, age, etc; you are. Love is what truly matters. I live in a rural town and I would love to have something like this happen here to help blow the minds of the folks who are so closed off and afraid, and to hopefully pry thier tiny little closed minds open to the concept that different isn't bad, it's just not exactly like you. And that's ok.

What a dream Monster!

Ivy Sparks has definitely hit it out of the ballpark with this novel!!! This Slime Monster (Oz) is officially my all time favorite monster, simply with his medical talents. This novel literally made me love a couple when one of the main characters is a slime 🤦🏼‍♀️. The characters are so developed it makes me want to go visit them. I think the best part is that both of them are heroes, and I don’t think I should write anything more since I don’t want to spoil the excellent read for anyone else!

I fell in love with Oz almost immediately, he will tug on your heart strings. I was a little surprised with the twist at the end, but it made me chuckle as well.

Adorable

So I didn't know what I was expecting, when I went into this. But I was exceedingly pleased. The background storyline was interesting and believable, the main characters were fun and interesting, and I loved how understandable and relatable the FMC IS. I am still a little bit weirded out by the sex scenes, but I think that's more because there was less of what I know and more of an idea that I hadn't conceived before. They were well written though that's for sure!
