If you enjoy fast-paced dystopian romance trilogies, with a strong female protagonist and a hint of fantasy, then the Absence of Song series is for you!

It's Not Easy Being Chosen

My eyes have suddenly and most assuredly, been opened. I now understand what this is all about. And what my role in it is.

In that moment I feel alive. Awakened. I’ve never felt so many emotions at once, and they hit me hard. It’s like I’ve taken a kick to the solar plexus, but strangely enough, it’s a good feeling.

My lips curve, even as I double over, and find myself hitting my knees. It’s a feeling that’s really sort of indescribable.

Noah has been right all along. The only question now is what happens next? How do I do what I’ve been called to do? How do I become what I’ve been created to become? So many obstacles stand before me, but if there’s nothing else I’ve learned in my short life… where there is a will, there is a way.

C.B. Stone is sometimes called author, writer, or purveyor of stories. One might even dub her a yarn spinner, if you will. It’s very possible she might be considered just a little left of normal by most, but she’s cool with that. Really, she’s too busy avoiding normal to care.

On any given day, you might find Stone pounding away at a keyboard in sunny Florida, contemplating waves, contemplating life, and dreaming up more exciting stories to share with readers. Except Sunday’s of course. Sunday’s are God’s day, so you’ll often find her making her best “joyful noise” with her local church praise team.

When not pounding poor fingers to bloody nuggets and reinventing the definition of eye strain, C.B. Stone enjoys living it up, doing the family thing, the kid thing, and the friend thing. And in her downtime, reading the minds of fans.

Also being invisible. Being invisible is fun.

I received a free ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this novel. This is my fifth novel by CB Stone and I really enjoy her style and the worlds she imagines. They are different than many other dystopian worlds I've read about in the past. Here are some of my thoughts.

I really like Noah and this is the first novel where we get his perspective on some of the events. I love dual perspective stories, so this was a great surprise. I was also happy that Noah and Jaelynn's voices were easy to distinguish. That's usually the low point of multi perspective novels, when the voices are too similar.

Some of the points of the story were very interesting and I really enjoyed the little bit that we delved into the world of the ministry and their views. It wasn't much, but it was interesting.

I also like the use of God. These are religious novels and Jaelynn discovering God is an interesting touch to the story. She starts to gain faith. Much of the spiritual connection the characters have with God comes through song, which was outlawed years ago.

The only low points for me were really that the story was somewhat slow in parts and that the characters didn't always seem consistent. I feel like more information could have been delivered in some scenes to make them matter more. Also a little more consistency in the thoughts of the characters and their reactions, particularly Jaelynn, would be nice. She seems to have very different thoughts within a single paragraph that don't really follow each other. Her decisions seem kind of sporadic at times.

I think all of this could easily be fixed, however, and improve this story greatly. As it is, this story was really fun and fast to read with interesting characters and a fascinating world.

Good, but...

I've enjoyed the story, but the plot development could be better. Also, this book needs some editing. There are words missing from sentences, a chapter repeated, etc. This seems to happen a lot lately in many different books. The editors need to be doing a better job. It's very frustrating!

Becoming Absence of song 2

The 2nd book in this series is as good as or better than the first. It goes into much more detail about the "Mission".

Part two of the spellbinding Absence of Song trilogy, Becoming, is as fascinating as Part one!
Jaelyn and Noah, on the run, are captured by the Ministry guards. Marcus, Jaelyn's father, demands to drive her to the Ministry compound. She and Noah will stand trial. Noah is transported in a seperate vehicle. Marcus advises Jaelyn to admit nothing when questioned; no matter what. No one explains why they're being arrested or what crimes they've been charged with. Jaelyn is confused, anxious and afraid; both for herself and Noah! During this frightening and confusing encounter, Jaelyn and Noah discover they have another connection, besides the music. That connection allows Jaelyn to reduce some of her anxiety and concentrate on the grueling questions put to her. She doesn't know what will happen to her; she's even more afraid for Noah!
Discovery and action follow throughout the story! Both wondrous and terrifying. Jaelyn has a mission to accomplish, involving the entire planet! Will she even get the chance to start her mission when she's under arrest? Her father may know more about the mission then previously thought.
Ms. Stone continues to write stories that consume and move the reader! And then, adds just a little more!

I received this book free for an honest review.

Jaelynn is such an incredible young woman. She is truly a blessing in the world she lives in and doesn’t even know it yet. I don’t know what all is going on either, but I know I’m hooked and can not wait to read the third book in this series.

Jaelynn and Noah are great together. They have some kind of powers that let them read each others thoughts. She is the chosen one. He is her “helper” I’m going to call it. Together they can do sooo much. Even when apart they can just connect with their thoughts. I believe they will be bringing the world they live in back to God. Even though Jaelynn doesn’t really know who he is yet.

This is a great series for Christians and non believers alike. There is a strong presence of God in the books but C.B. Stone is not pushing you to believe what she does. C.B. Stone has a true gift! All the characters are so life like while living in a dystopian world. We don’t know what its like there, but trust me you will fall in love with these people. Well, the good ones anyway. And who doesn’t love a revolution?(Cant wait to find out what that’s all about)

I loved the imagery and symbolism of the first book but this one seemed to drag on and on without much to look forward to. Of course, it ends at a place that makes you want to come back for more to see how it ends. I've invested this much of my time, I might as well finish the series. Plus, Jaelynn has to save the world now. And I have to read it so she can! Lol
