Liliana Martelli Delaney dreaded returning to the Massachusetts farm where she grew up and which she recently inherited. She hated the farm and everything to do with farm life. She hoped that sorting out the detritus of the 250 year-old house would resolve her anger and animosity. She planned to sell the place and put an end to that negative portion of her life.

But Lily and her family discover evidence of shady dealings by former owners who operated the house as an inn and tavern during Prohibition. Rumors and stories she heard as a child about bootlegging and a missing Revenue Man may have some truth to them. She becomes determined to solve the mystery!

Lily’s story is often poignant, and sometimes frightening, but her adventurous spirit, loving heart and ability to see a little humor in any situation make this book a must read!

About the author

Carmella Gates worked as special education teacher, a regional educational consultant, and a university professor before she retired to write over third "outstanding plays for kids eight to eighteen," available through her website, classic acts.net. She continues to write and direct children's plays.

Carmella hold a BA in History and Education from Framingham State College, and a Master's Degree from Boston College in Deaf-blindness. She grew up in Massachusetts and now lives with her husband in Parker, Colorado. Her daughter Meghan lives nearby.

RETURN TO THE SCENE is her first novel. She is busy working on the second novel in the series, GHOST LIGHT.

Loved the intermingling of a mystery and historical intrigue.
The author has plenty of good dialog and a family of characters who cooperate together; present and past storylines keep things interesting!

This is an awesome book! I was excited when they finally did find "The Revenue Man"! So glad to have won this book from Goodreads First Reads...it was excellent. I loved the characters,places,& what I could envision along with this story. Can't wait to read Ghost Light! Great work!
