NO ONE HAS TO KNOW, the ultimate guide to anti-ageing by celebrated medical cosmetologist and pioneer in age-defying techniques Dr Jamuna Pai, works on the principle that people willing to invest time and other resources in anti-ageing treatments don't always want to look like they have done so. Dr Pai debuts her 'less is more' 5E approach to skin -- Everyday, Exfoliate, Erase, Eat and Exercise -- to help you understand that subtle changes have the biggest impact. From homemade remedies to sunscreens, from facial exercises to Botox, from alkalizing foods to state-of-the-art non-surgical techniques, this is your one-stop resource for cutting-edge advice depending on your age, the severity of the problem and your budget. There are fine lines between enhancement and transformation and between transformation and mutation, and Dr Pai believes that the most powerful way to fight ageing is to look like the most glorious version of you. Because the best form of anti-ageing is the kind that keeps everyone guessing. No one has to know. Home-bound & with nothing to do, I thought this is the best time to eat healthy & take care of my skin. That's when I spied this gem hidden in my bookshelf, which will turn out to be my beauty bible for a long time to come. Brimming with witty repartees, home-remedies & brief anecdotes of Dr Pai's life, this book illuminated me on what I need to know about my skin type, & treatments available to look younger & feel better about myself.
Before delving into this topic, she has highlighted the importance of being happy with what we are blessed with. She has pinpointed that lifestyle choices are all it takes to make ourselves appear younger in addition to beauty treatments.
Armed with 26 years of experience, Dr Pai has jotted down her insight, by putting together an ingenious plan on how to choose our daily skin-care products according to our skin type and how to eat right. The handy-dandy beauty calendar at the end of the book summarized the best morning and bedtime ritual to follow with a list of ingredients we need to look out for in skincare products. The booklet of litmus paper attached to the book helped me discover that my body is too acidic. It taught me what to consume to alkalize my body and not make it a hotbed of diseases & so shoot up my immunity.
The 5E approach - Everday, Exfoliate, Erase, Eat and Exercise - summarizes everything we need to know on how to holistically take care of our skin from inside & out.
My favourite chapter is on facial exercises, which Dr Pai swears by. With detailed diagrams and explanations, a bouquet of 8 exercises aimed at different parts of the face are going to be ingrained in my repertoire of daily rituals.
Dr. Pai is the pioneer of Botox in India & her client list includes the crème de la crème of society & show biz. Her firsthand information about the latest treatments & the list of tried and tested home-made masks, is worth its weight in gold.
I know this book is going to be my bedside buddy for a long time to come. Going by the no. of pages highlighted & bookmarked by me, my hand will reach out for this book the most
This can be your ultimate skincare guide. But at the end you would still need a qualified personnel to suggest the cosmetics to you. She doesn't endorse any brands in the book. You are left hunting and wondering which suits you better. This definitely gives you the direction though.
This book is about (holistic) skincare methods that not just taking care of the skin but also lifestyle modifications that improve health and reduce ageing of skin.
What I liked about the book >> Step by step basic skincare tips for every age. >> propagates the idea of ageing gracefully rather than engaging in perpetual fault finding and fixing them. >>As the title suggests, Dr. Pai recommends striving to look good for decade rather appearing an old person trying hard to look younger. >>suggests how one should select an expert before handing down own's face, the most visible part of our identity, to them to make supposedly subtle changes.
What I didn't like >> A makeup laden face, likely photoshopped picture on the cover page instead of a natural looking fac picture showing beautiful and healthy skin. >> I wish the book had been more science I.e., explaining what a chemical/treatment does to the skin/body. I find it very uninteresting when people write off things as good or bad without explaining how exactly.
I made my own list of take-away from the book. Enjoyed reading most part of it.
The book is especially a great guide for all those who wished to consult a dermatologist for a beauty regimen, but never found the time to do so! In the book, Dr. Pai chalks out detailed daily beauty calendars that one should follow depending on the age and skin type during morning, evening and night-time, as well as the ingredients that one should look for while buying the skincare products for different skin types. From homemade remedies to sunscreens, from facial exercises to Botox, from alkalizing foods to state-of-the-art non-surgical techniques, the book is a one-stop resource for cutting-edge advice depending on your age, the severity of your problem and the budget you have.
Very boring book. Mostly it talks about cosmetic methods and very few information on diet and exercise. If anyone is not interested in these, can skip this book. I mostly went by the review for this book which were good but unfortunately I didnt find it worth reading. I couldnt finish the book...had to skip a few chapters as they were mostly related to cosmetic methods which I was not much interested in.
