A graduate researcher working at a rhino sanctuary whose parents insist she have a bodyguard? Honestly, who doesn’t love a good bodyguard romance? 🫣🤭
From the very beginning, one of my favorite things was how naturally both Ben and Cordelia brought everything back to the Lord. Whether it was something major or something seemingly insignificant, their first instinct was often prayer. I loved seeing those little moments scattered throughout the story because they showed where their priorities were and where they turned when they were struggling. 😌
I also appreciated how calm the story started. There wasn’t immediate chaos or nonstop action. It took its time easing readers into the sanctuary, the characters, and their daily lives. That being said, the beginning was definitely slow for me. I struggled to fully connect with the characters at first, and I found myself wishing the writing had been a little more immersive. Those were genuine drawbacks for me, and there were moments early on where I wasn’t completely invested. Thankfully, once I settled into the story, it became so much stronger. 🙂↕️😌
One of my favorite things was watching Ben go from being annoyed that he even had this assignment to slowly realizing he wanted to know everything about Cordelia. I will never get tired of watching a character with walls built a mile high slowly realize they’re interested in someone. And Ben absolutely had it bad. 😝😝
I was laughing so hard during the sardines game when he prayed:
“Lord,” I breathe. “I don’t know what’s wrong with me. But… if she shows up first, I wouldn’t hate it.” I’m not proud of that prayer. But it’s honest."
The fact that they were literally playing hide-and-seek where you have to hide with the person once you find them, and THIS was his prayer? sir please 🤣🤣 the man was spiraling before he even realized how deep he was in.
I also really appreciated that Cordelia wasn’t written as the stereotypical city girl (in regards to this trope) who couldn’t do anything for herself. She wasn’t spoiled, helpless, or constantly needing rescued. She was passionate about her work, deeply cared about the sanctuary, and genuinely wanted to make a difference.
It was definitely different reading about two characters who were both so reserved. There were times where I could feel that quietness on the page. Not necessarily awkward, but sometimes it contributed to the pacing feeling slower because neither character was naturally expressive or dramatic.
I also enjoyed watching both of them wrestle with the complicated line between Ben being her bodyguard and the feelings developing between them. It wasn’t always easy, but I appreciated that they continually brought those struggles before God and genuinely wanted to honor Him rather than simply follow their emotions.
One of my favorite themes in the entire book was Ben’s realization that he’d spent so much of his life chasing security. He wanted plans, numbers, savings, and guarantees. He wanted to know he would always have enough. Watching him discover that love and relationships were worth more than the financial security he’d spent years pursuing was one of the most impactful parts of the story for me. 🥹
Overall, this was a wonderful story. Yes I had issues with the slower beginning & struggled with immersion at times, but once the story found its footing, it completely won me over. The romance was sweet, the suspense kept things interesting, the sanctuary setting was unique, and the faith elements were woven beautifully throughout the story.
More than anything, I loved watching Ben and Cordelia learn that no amount of planning, controlling, or preparing could ever compare to trusting God’s plan. Again and again, they learned that His purposes were better than their own and that He could use every circumstance for good.

“I’d volunteer to hold a dozen rhinos if it meant five more minutes beside her.”
“The point was never to trust people more than God, anyway. You do your best. Then you put the weight where it belongs—on Him.”
“What if every time she looks at me like I’m someone worth trusting, it undoes me a little more? What if the sound of her laugh is the best thing in my day? What if I’ve spent weeks telling myself I’m there to keep her safe, when the truth is I just don’t want to walk away from her?”
“I want love. The terrifying, uncontrollable, completely irrational kind that made my parents dance in their tiny kitchen while the world fell apart around them.”

Im picking this up a tad late (it's an arc), butttttttt I'm so so excited to start this one!! I've really been craving clean romance lately and all the reviews for this one are stellar so far!
Ivy is an autobuy for me at this point, so I knew I would love this but OH MY GOODNESS!!
The way she writes romance is top tier- the way you can feel the love between the characters is just precious. I loved the banter between the two characters, as well as the genuine care they had for each other and the Lord.
The setting was just gorgeous!! South Africa is officially on my travel list 🇿🇦🦏
Lastly, the faith story was so raw and real and just phenomenally done. Not an ounce of cheese (which is a problem I run into with quite a few Christian romances), but it showed broken people relying upon a real and loving Heavenly Father, and walking through necessary healing and mindset changes. So beautifully done 💕
Suffice it to say- READ THIS BOOK !!! You will not regret it
*I received an ARC of this book, all views expressed are my own
This Christian romance story reminded me why I love books set in Africa so much!!
The setting is amazing! A wildlife sanctuary?? Yes, please! The characters’ passion for animals is wonderful, and references to plants, trees, birds, etc. in the African wilderness are so cool! (And of course I couldn’t resist researching more about everything along the way… It’s so fun when a book inspires me to do that!)
This is also a suspense book, which adds lots of intrigue! It’s light at first, which really lets the romance take center stage, but then it gradually builds, and I found the story increasingly difficult to put down as I neared the climax! (And, despite a few high-stakes moments, the violence overall is much lighter than most suspense books I've read, which I appreciated!)
As for the clean romance… I REALLY liked the main couple! Ben’s patience/care toward Lia is very sweet! And their faith journeys are beautifully woven together, with lots of prayer, scripture verses, and Bible-reading moments. So powerful!
Now, just an extra note: This is book 2 in a series, and while it can definitely be enjoyed as a standalone, I did notice brief references/hints to book 1 that would’ve probably felt even more impactful had I read the stories in order, so I’ll definitely be catching up with Shadow Light at some point as well!
*Content to note* …..May contain spoilers….. Discussions of insecurities from childhood; overprotective parents. Animal injury (mildly detailed); brief vet care scenes. Characters briefly held captive. Brief roleplay of m*rder-mystery game Clue; discovery of potential m*rder victim’s photo (mildly detailed).
**Thank you to the author for providing a complimentary e-arc. All thoughts expressed are my own.**
First of all, I want to thank Ivy Emerson and the publisher for an ARC copy of Wild Light in exchange for an honest review.
This was my second Ivy Emerson read and it was just as sweet and soft as the first. Ivy‘s books are clean and soft Christian romances that feature nothing beyond hugs and kisses.
The FMC, Cordelia (Lia for short), is a very sweet, but very guarded woman who struggles to let anyone get close after a lifetime of people being forced to keep their distance. Our MMC, Ben, is her bodyguard who also has a lifetime of his own struggles, particularly surrounding finances and how that shapes his view of life and the future. They set off together to the African bush where Cordelia can do her work as a postgraduate researcher.
──.✴︎what i loved: ⋆The scriptures used throughout. So many of them were so meaningful to me and were exactly what I needed to read at this point in life. I also love that Ivy chose to include so much of Psalms in this book, it’s my favorite book of the Bible and I never get tired of reading those verses ⋆ Ben. *swoon* Our steady and strong MMC. It was really nice going into a story with a male main character who already believes in God and has that foundation as a central part of his character and who he is. I don’t think I’ve seen that in any other book that I’ve read, and the way that his beliefs shape and drive him was really special to see. I wish more men like Ben existed in the world ⋆Cordelia’s passion for her work. Cordelia is brilliant and has invented very cool tech in order to protect African wildlife from poaching and illegal trading of rhino horns. I loved getting insight into her intelligence and how she developed such cool technology ⋆The desires of Cordelia‘s heart. I found myself relating to her in so many ways, especially when she talks about feeling like she’s not supposed to reach for the things God puts on the table. I contemplated on that quite a bit as I was reading because it touched my heart so deeply ⋆The animals & environment. The rhino calves are the adorable paid extras of this book and it was SO CUTE reading about them every time they popped up in a scene. I loved being introduced to some new species as well and getting to know more about the African bush. This was the first book I’ve read that takes place in this setting, and the way Ivy describes it is absolutely beautiful. I could close my eyes and picture every location ⋆The plot twists and drama. I wouldn’t have minded even more thriller action thrown in, because I really enjoyed when the action started to ramp up that created tension and gave our characters a problem to solve. The big reveal of who’s been plotting against the sanctuary was a good surprise, I didn’t see it coming ⋆Thandeka! She’s such a good side character that adds a lot of richness to the story. I picture her as the mother of the sanctuary, who won’t put up with any nonsense but will hold you and soothe you when you need a shoulder to cry on ⋆Easter eggs for Declan and Tessa. Now I see why Ivy recommends reading her first book, Shadow Light, before stepping into this one. I’d loved getting a throwback mentions of our angels from Shadow Light 🥹
──.✴︎what didn’t work for me: ⋆ I felt like the slow burn got very repetitive. The yearning and push/pull between Lia and Ben went on a little bit too long for me. ⋆ I would’ve loved to see the crossover between Cordelia and Ben’s skills a bit more. They’re both technologically knowledgeable, and it would’ve been cool to watch them nerd out about backend systems and data while problem-solving together. ⋆ I wanted more suspenseful moments. Shadow Light had suspenseful moments placed within the entire story that made me want to keep turning the page. While Wild Light is very much a romance-first novel, I would’ve enjoyed seeing a bit more of those tense/dramatic events in this story. I feel like we would get moments of harrowing action, and then we wouldn’t see anything else happen for a while
Overall, this is a very sweet and tender romance with faith, emotional depth, a character-driven chemistry woven throughout the story. I’m really looking forward to reading more of Ivy‘s novels in the future, especially Maverick‘s story coming up next 🫶🏼
Wild Light is an intriguing romantic suspense, set in an African savanna wild life sanctuary. Ben is hired to protect Lia while she cares for rhinos and tests her new tracking technology. Not only are there possible physical threats to the animals, but Ben may be in danger of losing his heart, too. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I’ve never read a book set in South Africa, and it’s a fun setting! I enjoyed learning about some of the animals native to that area. I also enjoyed Lia’s growth throughout the novel, and seeing her in her element with the rhinos. Ben is such a broody hero, and I loved seeing his walls slowly come down- with Lia, and with God. The lesson of learning to trust God and his timing was authentic. I also enjoyed the side characters- I’d probably enjoy working under Thandeka, too! I felt the suspense in the story was just the right amount; there were moments I was holding my breath! This is a solid second book of this bodyguard romantic suspense series, and I can’t wait for book 3! Here’s one of my favorite quotes: “If You spent blood on me, You’re not skimping now. I’ve been judging God’s generosity by my circumstances. By what was lost instead of what was given. By the timing I preferred instead of the timing He knows is best.” Thank you to the author and the publisher for my review copy; I was not required to write a positive review. All thoughts above are my own.
I really loved the beautiful descriptions of the African safari setting of this book. It was so immersive and was such a highlight for me. This was such a sweet feel-good read with a cute and quirky FMC and good faith messaging.
Honestly I also just can’t get over how gorgeous the covers for this series are!!
So privileged to have received an ARC of this book!!
“Wild Light” by Ivy Emerson is a suspenseful, slow-burn romantic novel with a Christian Worldview.
Cordelia (Lia) is a young lady who grew up the only child of two Doctors (her Mom was an infectious disease specialist, in particular) and both of her parents have always been hyper aware of germs.
As a child, Cordelia was well provided for financially but she was withheld physical affection, as her parents felt that they were protecting her from germs and illnesses. Being raised with such a heavy emphasis on preventing contact with others, in order to restrict germs, Cordelia was so unused to physical affection that as a young adult she was left sheltered and physically awkward around people.
Lia finds her purpose in her Faith in God and in helping animals, since she ultimately feels more comfortable around animals than people. She deeply loves rhinoceroses and becomes a wildlife researcher determined to protect them. She travels to a sanctuary in Africa to unroll new technology to track Rhinoceros horns and strengthen anti-poaching efforts at the Sanctuary, with plans to share the technology around the world.
Because of Cordelia’s overprotective parents, they insist that she travel to the sanctuary with a personal protection arrangement. Enter Ben. Ben is a professional personal protection detail who hesitatingly takes this particular job, as it seems low risk and more of a “babysitting detail”. Ben’s childhood was almost polar opposite from Cordelia’s: his family was affectionate and full of love, though oftentimes lacked the financial stability that would have provided comfort to him growing up. This monetary lack of security lead Ben to be more focused on his financial wellbeing than anything else in his life - including his own happiness, his trust in God and God’s calling on his life.
While at the Sanctuary, it becomes obvious that not everything is as it originally seemed, and not everyone can be trusted.
This story was so suspenseful and I was on the edge of my seat while I was trying to figure out who might be shady characters and how they could be involved. It was a treat to be genuinely surprised at the outcome, as I didn’t see the plot twists coming. Honestly, I was wrong in both of my guesses! 🤭
I loved reading the personal spiritual growth arc that each Lia and Ben travelled throughout the book. This book made me really think and I feel like it helped shape some of my own spiritual growth in the process.
It’s so refreshing to read a romance novel with a Christian worldview. This is such a delightful book and I highly recommend ”Wild Light” and I now want to read “Shadow Light”, soon!
This was my first read by Ivy Emerson but I plan to read every book that she ever writes! ❤️📚
A huge thank you to Ivy Emerson for selecting me for her ARC Team and for trusting me with an Advance Reader Copy. All opinions are my own.
Where do I even begin? I have so many thoughts about this book, and trying to capture the experience feels almost impossible but I’ll try. What I do know is that I need Ivy Emerson to keep writing, because her books are so much more than stories. The way she weaves scripture into her narratives genuinely blew my mind. I was highlighting my Kindle nonstop. I came for a story, but I got a story and a sermon not in a preachy way, but in a way that reveals the character of God and gently illuminates scripture.
Her exploration of Romans 8:32 has stayed with me. I’m still sitting with it, letting it settle in my heart, not just my mind.
Ben’s patience with Cordelia was one of the most beautiful parts of the book. He moved at her pace, never asking for more than she could give even at the very end. And chapter 29? A reminder of why choosing a man who hears God, who is open to correction from the Spirit, matters. That awakening Ben had through the Word was such a powerful, tender moment.
I saw pieces of myself in Cordelia, so I understood her. I’m so glad she had that moment with God, too beautiful for words 🫶🏾🥹
I also appreciate how the author talks about what love truly is. I had to unlearn and relearn some things, and I’m grateful for it. Honestly, this book invaded my space, mind, and heart and rearranged so much in the best way.
And listen I’m already looking forward to Maverick’s book 😌Anything Ivy Emerson writes, I’m reading. I feel blessed to have found this series. Please this is a must‑read. Don’t miss out.
I loved this delicate romance set in a rhino sanctuary in South Africa. Ben and Lia grew in faith and character, while also facing danger.
Ben is hired as Cordelia's bodyguard by her overprotective parents for the duration of her stay at a rhino sanctuary in South Africa. At first, they are both reluctant about this arrangement, but they learn to work together. I can only describe their budding romance as delicate. There were so many little ways that built their romance, and it was beautiful to read. But not only that, Ben was so gentle with Lia, being considerate of her needs and desires.
I loved the banter, the plant puns, the teasing, along with the gentleness. I loved the way Ben noticed things about Lia. I loved Lia's awkwardness and that Ben didn't care.
This does have elements of suspense, but it wasn't as tense or action-heavy as the first book in this series, Shadow Light. There was danger around them, but it wasn't specifically directed at Lia. I felt fully confident in Ben's ability to keep Lia safe!
What you'll find in this book: *bodyguard romance *protective MMC *awkward FMC *forced proximity *suspense *Christian characters *rhino sanctuary setting *dual POV
JUST FLAWLESS!! My cheeks hurt from smiling so much!
There’s so much I want to say about this book and I don’t know where to start. The moment I started reading this book, there wasn’t a time I didn’t smile. I smiled the whole time I was reading. Ivy did a phenomenal job with this book same as Shadow Light (first book of the series. If you haven’t read that one, what in the world are you waiting for?). Ben and Cordelia are just perfect, a match made in heaven. I loved their personalities, their quirks, and I learned so much from them, especially how they involved God in everything they did. I also learned so much about the rhinos! It was so beautiful and well written. I am just so sad that the book ended. I will definitely re-read this again in the future. I just didn’t want the book to end. Like at all. Highly, highly recommend this book!!
Thank you Ivy for sharing your book with the world. Please continue to write for your readers!! I CANNOT WAIT FOR MAVERICK’S STORY!! I already know it’s going to be another fantastic book!!
*ARC read* This book was such a delightful read! From the very beginning, I was hooked by the blend of suspense and slow-burn romance. The story kept me engaged while also giving the relationship plenty of room to develop naturally, which made it feel authentic and easy to root for.
One of my favorite things about this book was how relatable the main characters were. Their growth, struggles, and evolving relationship felt genuine, and I loved watching their connection deepen over time.
The setting was also incredible. A wildlife sanctuary in South Africa made for such a unique backdrop, and I especially loved reading about the baby rhinos! It added so much charm and heart to the story. As a fun bonus, this book introduced me to Percy Pigs—a candy I’d never heard of before. I tracked some down to try for myself, and they did not disappoint!
This was a wholesome, heartwarming read with great characters, a beautiful setting, and just the right amount of suspense. I loved it!
ARC REVIEW! 🥳 Good golly, I didn’t think I could love one of Ms. Ivy’s books more than Shadow Light (Book 1), but… somehow she succeeded in making Wild Light even better!!! 😭❤️
I loved the slow build of Ben and Lia’s relationship so much! His patience with her… the fact that he saw so much more than she let on… and loved her for the parts of herself she thought were unlovable… 🥹 And the amount of faith they live by — and the struggles they have in their day to day life — is SO encouraging! OH! And the ✨setting✨!! *swoon* I would say “Words cannot describe the beauty of the South African setting,” but… I literally DID read words to describing it. 😜 lol Ivy brought both the landscape and creatures to life through the pages and I was loving it!! I’m not a huge animal person myself, but even I was melting with a certain baby rhino ☺️
I legit have SO many highlights in this book! Lia was so relatable and I loved every minute of this book… Highly recommend!!
If you enjoy a clean, Christian romance with a dash of suspense (set in the BEAUTIFUL wilds of South Africa) then this might just be your next read!!
🦏Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🦏Cursing/Swearing: None 🦏Romance: Sweet kiss only (and hugs that will make you melt like chocolate over a fire! 😍) 🦏Tropes 📍Bodyguard Romance 📍Faith 📍Protective MMC 📍Wildlife Sanctuary Setting 📍Slowburn (SO GOOD!!) 📍He reads her Psalms when she’s sick 😭
This book was deliciously sweet. The romance was such a slow burn, it literally had me shaking my phone wanting them to hurry on up and just admit that they loved each other. Literally it was like those early love giddy feelings so artfully portrayed.
The setting was so fantastic, so realistic, and I absolutely loved each and every character. THE PLOT TWISTS were perfect!!! Didn't see what was coming, but just enough suspicion only for it to be something else entirely. It was soo good!
This book is written in two povs (fmc and mmc) and it was so well done. Flowed so so well. I loved all the messages and themes in the book. A very strong Bible influence and loved the portrayal of faith from the characters. I loved Lia's heart for animals and her character arc is so beautiful!
If you enjoy no/low spice romance with hints of danger and suspense (and adventure!) you will absolutely enjoy this story! Loved reading this and will totally put a physical book on my shelf as a trophy read.
A strangers to more faith filled romance/suspense. Ivy Emerson has done it again with another book that I didn’t want to put down. After reading Shadow Light I couldn’t wait to read more about the Cole & Associates Private Protection Agency and its team she developed in her first book.
Cordelia is a postgraduate research student who is headed to Africa to help at a rhinoceros sanctuary. However, her infectious disease Dr./Parents are not willing to let her go without personal security.
Ben, who helped set up a new team in Africa is not ready to go back but his dream of being financially secure, outweighs his wanting to stay in London.
While at the sanctuary, they are both learning how God has placed them exactly where He wants them as well as teaching them to trust Him.
Wow, this was sooo good!!! It felt very different than Shadow Light in terms of the characters, setting, and pacing of the book, but I think that goes to show the author’s talent in writing. This book really spoke to my soul in terms of how the characters were struggling and growing. It was emotionally deep and heavy on the faith content, which I really appreciate. The setting in the South African bush felt ALIVE. It’s wayyy light on the suspense; I would call this more Christian fiction romance than anything.
Lia and Ben’s story is mesmerizing. I loved how complex each character was, yet they fit perfect together. This story carries so much truth and radiates life. I am amazed at the overarching theme of God’s grace, redemption, perfect timing, and unconditional love to us all. Now, I’m anxiously waiting for Maverick’s story!!!
Ever feel like you're in over your head? And yet you don't want a babysitter... Cordelia Hope felt this way.
An awkward, weird girl who God definitely designed for single life, is now flying (for the first time, mind you,) over the ocean to go save rhinos from poachers... But there's a catch. Her parents hired a bodyguard to save her from wildlife and germs, because they are the real enemies. And not just any bodyguard, but a tall, broad, quiet man with piercing green eyes that seems to see right through her.
This is fine. It's fine.
Maybe if she makes it more unbearable to be her guard... Maybe he'll quit and she can finally prove to her parents that she can handle herself. But maybe he's more stubborn than she gives him credit for. And maybe she really doesn't want him to quit.
I DEVOURED this book! Not only is it set in Africa (one of my favorite places on earth), but it had witty banter, laugh out loud moments, suspense and intrigue, adorable found family and a ton of awkwardness. I loved it and Ivy Emerson is officially an immediate buy author for me.
Dual POV, redemption arc, real gritty characters, & baby rhinos!! Who could ask for more?!?
Clean reads | scripture on page | prayer on page | Christian romance | Christian fiction | contemporary romance | kisses only | SLOW BURN
Wild Light was such an enjoyable read! It is the second book in Ivy Emerson’s Light Rising series. It can be read alone, but does have spoilers from Shadow Light (book 1).
This book takes place in a wildlife reserve and follows Lia and Ben. It’s a Christian romance with some mystery/thrill mixed in. There is not anything too intense, which I appreciate.
I enjoyed getting to know all of the characters and loved having both Lia and Ben’s POV! I am definitely looking forward to the next book!
Are you looking for something wild to read this summer? Move over typical beach read, and check out WILD LIGHT!
This book has it all - baby rhinos, cool tech, sweet romance, an intelligent but awkward female main character, and a crazy plot twist at the end! The Christian faith displayed in this book is real and different from the first book in the series, SHADOW LIGHT. Plus, the last scene is just the sweetest.
Note: I received an ARC from the author for my honest review.
Yet another fun and exciting novel from Emerson! I absolutely loved the setting of the story and the mystery that played out - I gasped when it was all revealed, but it made perfect sense! There were many lines that struck a chord in me but this one resonated the most: "Maybe being loved by God was always supposed to change the way I received love from people too." I'm so grateful to be a part of the ARC team - these are my honest opinions!
I went into this book unsure about the whole safari setting, but wow—Ivy completely surprised me in the best way possible. She keeps you engaged from beginning to end and will have you laughing, giggling, and even crying alongside the characters.
I especially loved the deep faith woven throughout the story, the clean romance, and of course… the mystery.
I truly can’t say enough about how much I love Christian fiction books that shine the light of God and beautifully reflect His character and how deeply He cares for us.
I received an arc copy from the author and I was not obligated to post a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This story touched my heart in many different ways! I laughed out loud, I cried, I swooned, and I felt real joy! Ben and Cordelia have stolen my heart after making me super frustrated of course! Their swoon worthy scenes are so achingly beautiful! This story is a masterpiece and you MUST read it! (ARC review)
ARC Review: I am obsessed with Lia and Ben’s love story. Thank you Ivy Emerson for allowing me to be one of your ARC readers! I was an ARC reader for her previous book and didn’t think anything could top it, but Ivy did it again! I loved the swoony romance that was packed in the story also with the action and light suspense that had me flipping to the next page! PLEASE GO READ!! You will not be disappointed!
Ivy did it again! I could not read this book fast enough. Once again, the characters are relatable. They feel very real and are pretty imperfect, and their imperfections are some of the best parts about them. I love the honest, hard, and sweet prayers sprinkled throughout the story as well. I love stories where I get to watch the characters grow in their relationships with God as they grow toward each other. And dare I say, the suspense might be even better than Shadow Light (book 1 in this series). I can’t wait to read Mav’s story next, I just know Ivy will knock it out of the park just like she has with this one!
*ARC Review* This was my first read by Ivy Emerson, and I am so thankful I was able to be an ARC reader! I loved this book from the moment I started it, it is unlike anything I have ever read and so rich with meaning. One of my favorite things about this book was how real and relatable the characters were. Specifically, Cordelia. She is kind, quirky, funny, and it felt like she was always being authentically herself, even when there were things going on around her that could have changed the way she acted. While Lia was undoubtedly an incredibly brave, strong, and capable FMC, I really appreciated how her personality was rooted in being soft and gentle. I feel that too often in media female characters are written to be overly capable and feisty, so for Lia to be portrayed as more of a soft, gentle character was like a breath of fresh air to me. She was able to take care of herself and handle tough situations, while still not feeling like she had anything to prove when Ben protected and took care of her. I also really enjoyed the banter and conversations between Ben and Lia. I loved how they would talk openly, and if Ben wanted to know something specific about something Lia said or did, he would just ask. It felt like how a real conversation would go, and not like the author was relying on the characters internal thoughts for you to know what was going on with the story or their feelings. For the most part, I felt like the characters reacted in realistic ways to the situations they faced. I think this is also what contributed to keeping the flame of the slow-burn alive - Ben and Lia didn’t solely let their romantic interest guide every action and word they chose. Life was still going on, and they both had jobs to do. That being said, sometimes they did give themselves into the moment and acted impulsively, even if it might be seen as a little socially strange or forward. I found myself happy when they would just do what we as the reader might expect them to, rather than do the complete opposite to add drama to the story. It made them seem all the more human and relatable. Ben is a great MMC. He is smart, strong, quietly confident, and steady. I really enjoyed seeing him be portrayed as a man who’s confident in the Lord and his faith. He never tried to hide that he was a Christian, and carried out his faith as if it was the most natural thing in the world, without worrying about what others might think. Just as with Lia, I loved that he was portrayed as strong and gentle, instead of broody and controlling. He did his job and was confident and sure of himself, always putting others before himself and being a gentlemen wherever he could. I loved the way Ben and Lia prayed throughout the story, internally and out loud. You could really see how God was always at the forefront of their lives, and I loved seeing their faith grow throughout the book. The suspense was done well, always leaving me wondering what would happen next! I could feel the characters emotions as if they were my own, and I loved the message the story told of God and His abundant love. There were only a few things that didn’t work for me: There wasn’t much description of the characters, so it was hard to know what everyone was supposed to look like or where they were from. There also seemed to be a predetermined main cast of characters, as those were the only people ever named from the start of the story. Any other employees/people were kept nameless, making it difficult to know how many people were at the sanctuary in total. I also felt like the yearning was a little too much during the last 1/4 of the story, making it seem a little unrealistic for me. Personally, I would have liked to see them get together sooner in the story, and get to watch what their relationship as a couple is like. I also would have liked to see more of them after they did get together. Like how Ben and Lia worked their relationship around their individual jobs, and how Declan and Mav reacted to their relationship. I also would have liked to see Lia and Ben discuss their faith with each other a little more, they seemed to both know they were Christians early on, but it wasn’t usually explicitly talked about unless there was conflict happening. Overall, this is a story that stays with you long after you put it down. Wild Light has earned a place as one of my favorite books. I would recommend this book to anyone and can’t wait to read again! Thank you Ivy Emerson for an ARC copy of this book!!💛
This was such a sweet, clean read! I was immediately sucked into the characters, they felt so real. I really enjoyed the setting of the African bush and getting to learn more about the sanctuary and rhinos, which is something I don't know anything about really. It was a great setting for this story, the romance/suspense, and especially Lia. The side characters were a great addition to making the sanctuary really feel important and lived-in.
Lia is a very independent and occasionally socially awkward FMC. She's intelligent and compassionate. It's very clear how much she cares about her work and about the animals (who she always understood better than people). But I also love seeing how she's different from her parents and the hidden desires of her heart.
Ben is an amazing, steady, protective MMC. The bodyguard romance dynamic is always a fun one to read. He's very intentional about everything, constantly aware of his surroundings, people, himself, and everything.
Their relationship at the beginning was really interesting to see unfold. Clearly neither of them really want to be in this position, but they learn to make it work, and even learn to care for each other along the way. It's new for Lia because she's always felt strange and outside normal human interaction because of her anxiety regarding it. It makes her feel safe and see past her faults.
They both have very different childhoods which affects their view on relationships and love and what's important in life I liked the emphasis there and seeing how they broke the cycle, with God's help. I think both of their "come to Jesus" moments were handled really well and very relatable too. I would have liked to see more of Ben's past in the Navy because it wasn't mentioned much but I know there's lore there.
The little hints of suspense definitely added to the story as well. Toward the ending some things began to feel a little repetitive but overall I think this was a really sweet romance with amazing faith themes and just enough dramatic flair to keep you entertained!
Wild Light tells the story of post-graduate wildlife researcher, Cordelia (Lia) Hope and Ben Huxley, the bodyguard her overprotective parents hire to protect her while on assignment at a wildlife sanctuary in South Africa.
When Ben and Lia first arrive in South Africa, the tension between them is obvious. Lia wants her time at the sanctuary free from constant supervision while Ben doesn't want to spend the next three months being a glorified babysitter. Ben offers to keep his distance and act as a shadow, to which Lia happily agrees as she has kept people at arm's length since childhood. As Lia settles into her fieldwork, she finds the arrangement feeling awkward and asks Ben for a different arrangement. Over the course of the book, Ben and Lia grow closer and start longing for something more than a bodyguard detail allows.
The wildlife sanctuary was the perfect setting for this story. I loved how the area was depicted and all the plants and animals of the region you are introduced to – but the rhinos steal the show. Seeing Lia's passion come alive in her work with them was heartwarming. The members of the sanctuary team felt like real people who didn't just work together, but actually felt like a family.
My favorite part of the book was the faith journey that Ben and Lia experience. Both characters are believers, but they hold on tightly to specific parts of their lives they can't surrender to the Lord. Ben and Lia come to realize that they need to trust all things to him and in his timing. Their growth felt genuine because it happened gradually.
If you enjoy faith-filled romance with a side of suspense set amongst a scenic backdrop, this one is for you.

This book was a great and well-executed mix of romance, faith, soft adventure, and suspense! It got me guessing (and failing at every turn 🤣). I loved the setting, the African landscapes with the rhinos and other animals... Simply stunning.
Unlike Declan and Tessa (the main couple in book one, Shadow Light), Cordelia and Ben are both already Christians. However, old wounds and fears stop them from fully trusting God and surrendering control. Wild Light is more than the journey that brings them together; it is the one that draws them closer and deeper to God. They are both easily lovable and relatable in their faith and personal struggles. Together, they are incredibly sweet. Even though Cordelia and Ben are initially reluctant to accept their roles (bodyguard and client), they quickly learn to appreciate and cherish each other, seeing more in one another than anyone else does.
As was the case with the first installment, hard topics weren't graphic and were handled with love and care. Even though the suspense level seemed similar to the first book, this one somehow felt more gripping, as if the stakes were higher, which I personally loved.
Several lines made me stop reading and just laugh out loud. Others made me pause to think about my relationship with God, and some felt like a hug to my heart ♥️. I had expectations for Wild Light, and they were exceeded. Can't wait for Maverick's story now 👀. Ivy did an excellent job of making me curious about the third friend/agent at Cole & Associates, and I still have questions about a certain recurring character 👀.
Wild Light completely swept me away. From the very first chapter, Lia and Ben felt so real that it was easy to forget I was reading fiction. I’m usually hesitant about dual POV—especially getting the guy’s perspective—but Ivy captures Ben with such authenticity that his voice never once feels forced. His internal conflict, his confusion over his growing feelings for Lia, and his instinct to protect her as her bodyguard all come across as genuinely masculine without slipping into cliché. His faith is woven in with a grounded, steady strength that never feels preachy or “cushiony,” just honest.
The emotional depth in this story is incredible. When the characters are surprised, the reader is surprised. When they’re curious, you find yourself piecing things together right alongside them. Ivy trusts her readers—nothing is spoon‑fed—and that makes the experience so much richer.
Her writing style is immersive in the best way. I could hear the birds and cicadas in Africa, feel the heat, and see the landscape through Lia’s eyes. The supporting characters are just as vivid, each with distinct personalities that shine through naturally.
This book is beautifully written, emotionally layered, and full of moments that linger long after you stop reading. I absolutely loved it, and I can’t wait to read more of Ivy’s work.
There is just something about the way that Ivy Emerson writes suspense that feels so much different than the high paced, high action suspense novels I typically find. The suspense is very much still there, but it feels more subtle with danger very much present but lurking in the background. I truly don't know how to explain it better, but I do know that I love it! Of course, protective MMC are a weakness of mine, so a bodyguard romance always does that well. I loved the sweet chemistry between Ben and Cordelia throughout... theirs is a slow burn and just perfect for the two of them. But truly the best part of this story? How beautifully the messages of faith are woven in. It was unapologetically Christian in a way that felt very natural to the characters and their story and I absolutely loved it. I enjoyed this one just as much as the first and find myself very much looking forward to what will come next!
Wild Light is a Christian romance with kisses only and no language. It is the second book in the Light Rising series, but could be enjoyed just fine as a standalone as well.
