The saga of Caelen’s Wife concludes with A Breath of Promise.
Determined to make Fiona McPherson his wife, Caelen McDunnah is perfectly willing to set aside his own chiefdom in order to marry her. Is Fiona willing to make the same sacrifice?
War is deadly. War is brutal. When Fiona's brother, William, is kidnapped, the identity of the person responsible for the murders of three innocent people is finally revealed. Clans McPherson and McDunnah must join together to fight against a madman motivated solely by avarice.
An epic tale of love conquering hatred, honor defeating greed, and finding a breath of promise even in your darkest hour.
USA Today Bestselling Author, storyteller and cheeky wench, SUZAN TISDALE lives in the Midwest with her verra handsome carpenter husband. All but one of her children have left the nest. Her pets consist of dust bunnies and a dozen poodle-sized, backyard-dwelling groundhogs – all of which run as free and unrestrained as the voices in her head. And she doesn’t own a single pair of yoga pants, much to the shock and horror of her fellow authors. She prefers to write in her pajamas. Suzan writes Scottish historical romance/fiction, with honorable and perfectly imperfect heroes and strong, feisty heroines. And bad guys she kills off in delightfully wicked ways. She published her first novel, Laiden’s Daughter, in December, 2011, as a gift for her mother. That one book started a journey which has led to more than twenty published titles. To date, she has sold more than 750,000 copies of her books around the world. They have been translated into Italian, French, German, and Spanish. You will find her books in digital, paperback, and audiobook formats.
A Breath of Promise is the third novella of Caelen's Wife, and it picks up where 'A Whisper of Fate', book 2 left off. I enjoyed it immensely! Questions will be answered, and villains will be revealed. A Breath of Promise, is a wonderful subtitle for this third book by Suzan. The cover of this book is my favorite out of the three.
The question that has been plaguing Fiona since book one, 'Would she give up being Chief of her clan for Caelen McDunnah', will be answered in this novella. The story line, and plot moves right along in this novella. There are a few twist and turns, and just when I thought I know who was committing the crimes against the McPhearson Clan, the story took another turn.
I don't want to say a whole lot about this story, because I don't want to give anything away. I will say that readers will be happy with the conclusion of Caelen and Fiona's story. You will not be bored for one moment! I recommend this story to anyone that loves Suzan Tisdale's books, strong, noble men, and feisty heroines.
Now, I am waiting patiently to read more from the McDunnah Clan!
Yea! I'm so glad I finally got to the good stuff. Book 3 finally lives up to the legacy of the remainder of Ms. Tisdale's works. I still do not understand why Books 1-2 did not measure up, but Book 3 at last comes through. In fact, other than needing background from the first two installments, Book 3 could easily stand alone. The backstory could have been included in a few chapters in this piece and been just as effective.
The conclusion of the trilogy. I think this is my favorite cover art of the series.
I haven't read many historicals in recent years for a lot of reasons, historical accuracy being one of them. I realize this is entertainment, but to read something that we all know didn't happen or was even in the realm of possibility takes me out of the story. Since this is not a time travel or a paranormal historical, there's no reason why it cannot have factual elements written in. I don't think it would be fair of me to rate this given my views as stated earlier.
She brings this tale to a close and with it my wish for it to continue. If you did not love her writing before you will with this 3 part series. It brings all issue’s to an end, it will shock you and also make you say OMG, I told her to do that. Anyways great book and author.
I really have no words to describe this beautiful love story. Other than I was hooked from the very first book that I simply HAD to know how this amazing love story ended. Beautiful, Amazing story, loveable characters and the amazing Author who put it into words. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!!
I love love love this book. A Breath of Promise is a fabulous conclusion to the series. I am ready to start a new book by Suzan Tisdale. She has been added to my "must read" list. 5 plus stars.
An excellent 3rd book to this 3 book trilogy. It is unfortunate that controversy over this story being divided into 3 books may have deterred some readers from reading this trilogy. Unfortunate, because I feel these books reflect the author's best work, compared to her previous novels. The author's writing has definitely matured since her first book, and she really pulls everything together in these books. Great storyline, mature writing, nuanced character development, and good editing. The story presented in these books is far more consistent than in her previous books. The book starts with Caelen and Fiona still separated, but Caelen determined to get her back. The intrigue and mystery of who is killing Fiona's people and trying to start a clan war continues. The ending did seem a bit rushed, that the mastermind behind the raids and rumors would just out and out declare a war against Fiona, instead of waiting patiently to see if his back-up plan to gain access to her lands would work. It also seemed out of character for the mastermind, to just "give up" and declare war, instead of patiently continuing to think up other ploys to gain access to Fiona's land. Still the ending was satisfying. All the various story lines were neatly wrapped up, and there was a brief visit from a few of the characters from the author's previous book series.
A wonderful ending for great series! Since I don't want to spoil how Caelen's story end, I will just say that it was worth the wait. While it's difficult for me to read a book in parts, it's just that I read so much and so often that it's difficult for me to read several series at a time, waiting for the next installment. That isn't the writer's fault though, and I can see the readers pressing to find out what happens next, and therefore understand the "installment" plan. I'm guilty of that myself. I have really enjoyed the entire series with all the wonderfully descriptive writing and the depth of each character's personality. You can certainly tell that Susan Tisdale has a great deal of historical knowledge of Scotland, as well as a deep love of romance and sexy male characters in kilts. Her female characters are never insipid, dull women without their own strong personalities either. She always makes excellent combinations of the male's character traits in combination with a perfect female character to ensure a delightful story that reaches all of the emotions. Fiona and Caelen's story is wonderful, even with all the ups and downs they face. I think you are an excellent storyteller Ms. Tisdale!
I love Suzan Tisdale's work. I have been a fan since her very first book. However, I held off reading this serial until they had all been released because I detest serials. I read too many books and many times the details of a specific book fade in memory in between. I much prefer have the entire story in one book.
Having said that, I enjoyed this story line and it's two main characters immensely. More so, because I could read them back-to-back as I would be reading one book.
Above is just my personal preference and doesn't reflect on the author, or her wonderful talent, at all. I will continue to purchase and read her books. I just hope she doesn't continue with this format. MHO.
I loved the conclusion to this 3 part serial. I was hoping for a great solution for Fiona and Caelen's HEA and Suzan Tisdale delivered as usual, she is such a great word weaver. I loved how the story grabbed me from the very beginning and my attention didn't stray. There is intrigue, deception, discovery followed by a huge bloody battle and of course love so powerful it helps heal many wounds and gives new life. I usually fall for the hero, but in this story it is the heroine, Fiona that captures the heart. She is a strong, loyal, funny, smart and kickass with her weapons :D So happy that she got what she most wanted.
An epic tale of love conquering hatred, honor defeating greed, and finding a breath of promise even in your darkest hour, and a love story full of passion, humor and bittersweet tenderness. Conflict and tension go hand-in-hand between the clans, their characters and sub-plots delivering a page-turning read in which we keep wondering how this is going to work. Bur work it does. Susan's books are always a treasure to read.
Final installment of a 3 part novel. Loved it. We have followed Caelen and Fiona through a lot they both are Clan chiefs and know they have to do what is best for their people. He wants to marry her she can't break a promise she made to keep her Clan intact. They are at a standoff with one another until they both offer to make a sacrifice. We finally find out who the bad guy is. Great ending.
This is Book 3, the final installment of Caelen's Wife. Suzan is a great author, and this series is a must read. I loved the ending. It contained some surprises, and made me cry happily in a couple of places. Please get all 3 installments of this book. You definitely won't be sorry. I received an ARC in return for an honest review
Susan Tisdale is nothing short of an excellent storyteller and writer. She has you in the story hearing, smelling and feeling every description, leaving nothing out. You feel like you're there, experiencing the moment and the thoughts of the characters. Truly an enjoyable read.
Suzan Tisdale is an excellent storyteller! I'm going to read all her books provided she stays a clean read author in her other series. This book tied everything up nicely with a great happily ever after conclusion.
I read all three books in the series pretty much in one sitting. I'm glad I waited to have all three lined up as I would have hated having to wait to read the next one.
This is the third volume of the Clan McDunnah series. Finally, the story wraps up. The three books are all fairly short and easy to read. But each of the first two ends at something of a cliffhanger. If you want to quickly read the entire story from beginning to end, it is now available in a single volume as well as the separate books.
Finally, somebody has come up with a way for Fiona to marry Caelen without breaking her promise to her first husband and his father to not allow Clan McPherson to fall or be absorbed into another clan. Fiona steps down as clan chief to be replaced by her oldest brother, Collin, and at last she and Caelen can be married.
But the question of who has been raiding the McPherson lands is still pressing. It’s not until Bhruic McKinnon, who Fiona came this close to marrying in the last episode, gets drunk and hits his new wife, Alys, that they find out the truth of the matter. It seems that the culprit is holding Bhruic’s daughter hostage so he will kill Fiona and Caelen.
And then his (the culprit’s) men go and kidnap Fiona’s brother, William. War is inevitable. This time it’s a real all out shooting war. Keep in mind that this happens in 1356; they shoot arrows. Fiona insists on going. But for all her relentless training, she’s never been in an actual war before.
This is a great read about Highland Knights & their clans, plus the ways in which they do things. I really loved that women were allowed to train 3 days a week & men did their jobs during that time. Fiona is a terrific clan leader with a huge mystery to solve in all 3 books; she falls in love with a clan leader that is said to be a bit crazy with a huge scar & he loves her back. It takes a book or so before he knows he's in love & the same for him. Now, he has actually said he would give up being clan leader because he loved her that much! Great action & mystery even in the romance of these 2 clan lairds.
How do you choose? This series kept me on the edge of my seat never knowing what was coming next. The heroine is a Clan Chief and has sworn never to allow her Clan to join with another and thus lose their name. But life has a way of interrupting plans and she falls in love with the Chief of another Clan. And to make matters worse, someone is killing people of her Clan and she can't figure out who.
I absolutely loved this series. Exciting, suspenseful and breathtaking love! Sigh---
I have been hording as many of Suzan's books as I can afford. I really enjoy being able to read every page because the emphasis is on the story without too much sexual content. She does so much work on adding little details about the language and the conditions of this period in history. Thanks Suzan for so many enjoyable hours reading your books.
This 3 part story was a reread for me...after reading Black Richard’s Heart where Caelen & Fiona was mentioned at the very end...I went back to piece the puzzle together...I loved it more the second time & would love to see a follow up story about Anna!
This was my first time reading the author's work and I'm utterly in love with it. I have laughed and cried with the characters and I even cheered at the end. Caelen and Fiona's story is beautifully written and makes you wish you were in their shoes to experience the life depicted throughout these pages. I can definitely say I will be reading more of the author from now on.
After reading about Caelen in Duncan and Finley and Wee Williams stories I was looking forward to reading this! I really liked it and the only problem I had was it was too short! And it was annoying having them in three books but still great!
