World of Kalquor #9

Alien Indiscretions

Rate this book
Cissy Salter is more than ready to shed Earth’s repression when she moves to the planet Kalquor. She leaps headlong into drinking, partying, and liaisons with young alien men. She would be having the time of her life if not for the disapproval of a certain rich, gorgeous Dramok she can’t avoid. She’d love to despise him, but her heart has other ideas.

Dramok Diltan sees the bawdy, unrefined Cissy as a thorn in his side. The last thing he needs is a woman who drives him crazy every time they meet. Yet the spark in her eyes kindles a fire he can’t ignore. His enthralled clanmates Wal and Rolat are determined to get the two to stop fighting, at least long enough to explore the possibility of making Cissy part of their clan. When they discover Diltan’s past misdeeds, Wal and Rolat issue an ultimatum: help them seduce the Earth woman or face punishment.

As Cissy and Clan Diltan discover each other’s true nature and love blooms, the long-hidden secrets of Kalquor’s leadership are revealed. An old conspiracy brought to light shatters Kalquor’s peace, driving the Empire apart ... and tearing Cissy from the arms of the three men she can no longer live without.

This book contains mild BDSM including discipline, Domination/submission, and bondage.

Tracy St. John

Born in a small town on the coast of North Carolina to strict parents, Tracy St. John started out as a quiet, shy child. She was typical for her small town: studying hard for good grades, fishing with her dad on Saturdays and attending church on Sundays.

When adolescence kicked in, so did full-on rebellion. School, family and church fell by the wayside as Tracy partied too hard with the wrong people. Somehow surviving her wild-child phase, she pursued several careers before finally settling on video production and writing.

A string of failed relationships prompted her to give up on love…which of course meant fate immediately tossed Mr. Right her way. After only 4 months of dating, she eloped with the love of her life. They just celebrated 14 years of wedded bliss.

Prior to penning her first erotic novel ‘Alien Embrace’, Tracy wrote commercials, television and radio promos, and training films for various government entities.

Tracy St. John now lives in coastal Georgia with her husband and son. She still enjoys fishing, and you’ll often find her haunting train museums with her locomotive-loving son. Besides writing, she also works in video production both in front of and behind the camera. She’s usually cast as the gun-toting bad gal, getting handcuffed in the end. She has no complaints.

This is a really interesting romance.

At its heart, it a love story that shows that you don't have to be perfect or overcome all of your flaws to be deeply loved.

One hero is ambitious and a bit stuck up. He tends to push hard for what he wants and judge quickly. He makes errors for judgement. But he has regret and sees his mistakes even if he keeps making them. The reasons he makes them come from a good place.

The other heroes are much more straight forward though the more passive judge is a lot of dirty fun.

The heroine is defensive and crass and really not self reflective. But she is super protective, fun and loving.

I don't really adore the characters but I don't have to do so to enjoy the book.

The series plot arc takes up a lot of space in the the book as does the BDSM erotic elements which leaves less time for the love story than I would like especially in a poly relationship where there is a lot to negotiate.

I was also sad that we get no time on the part of the hero's sexuality that is bisexual and focused on each other. It is weird that after many years together that would be absent in the sexy play.

So, interesting.

I enjoyed the story, but not the h, Cissy. I just never saw how two of the guys would have any attraction to such a crude woman.

The story was good and continued along the same path as the previous book. Again, well-written and proofread. Too many looooong smex/bdsm scenes. Yawn. I read about the first two, then skim the rest. I am sure several of these could be cut out. The book would still be good.

I have read all of this series and the Shalia's Diary books, and I will continue.

Alien Indiscretions is the ninth book in the Worlds of Kalquor series. I have read some of these before, but not all of them. I would recommend you read the series though, as previous characters and relationships are mentioned.

Crissy and Tasha are Jessica's cousins and have made their way to Kalquor to start a new life, one where they can be with whomever they wish. Crissy takes an instant dislike to one of the councillors but is more than happy to push them onto her twin. Of course, that doesn't happen, and Crissy and the Kalquorians need to figure a lot of things out while they still have the chance.

This is definitely a case of those who know, see a different person, because at first glance Crissy is uncouth, brash, and downright rude at times. However, those who know her, love her. And there is enough about her to catch the interest of two out of the three Kalquorians.

This story has a lot of backstory to it, with an overall story arc playing a BIG part of this story. For that reason, I would definitely recommend reading some of the others before this one. It was all well written, with no editing or grammatical errors that disrupted my reading flow. The pacing is smooth, and there are plenty of sexy scenes for your titillation.

If you have read any of these books before, then I can absolutely recommend it. If you haven't, then I still recommend it, but would suggest you start the series properly first.

* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and my comments here are my honest opinion. *

So much going on in this story. We have love, conspiracies, more conspiracies, and lots of hot sex. I got so involved in the story that I couldn't wait to find out what happened.

This is a massive book and I loved every minute of it! This story is very pivotal within the World of Kalquor series, and I was reading like a race horse to find out what happens! I was not disappointed!

Cissy Salter and her sister Tasha are on their way to Kalquor. Empress Jessica is their cousin and they are excited to be reunited with their extended family. Ready to shed Earth's repressed views, Cissy becomes a blatant partyer! She doesn't care what anyone thinks and is determined to explore her freedom. She usually indulges with drinking and partying with younger un-clanned men. She is met with disapproval by Diltan-an entitled, but oh so gorgeous Dramok. She shouldn't care what he thinks, but she secretly does!

Diltan is dismayed by Cissy and her behavior! She is so crude! He can not understand why she drives him absolutely crazy! Every time he sees her, the attraction builds and he just can't ignore it! His clan, Wal and Rolat are just as enchanted with her as he is. They only need to figure out how to get them to stop the sparring so they can court her as a Matara to their clan.

As Clan Diltan gets to know Cissy, it's not lost on them that they have something special. Cissy is everything they would ever want in a mate! She loves to be dominated and enjoys a bit of pain with her pleasure-and these men like their pleasure!! Things are rolling along swimmingly, until secrets in Kalquor's past are exposed. Kalquor as they know it, is gone. Having to wade through all the headaches, the clan is forced to take a timeout, for propriety's sake. They realize quickly they can not live without each other.

This is another intriguing story by Tracy St. John! Being book nine in the series, it is just as captivating as the books before it! Each book features a different clan, but the underlying thread brings in characters from prior books and holds them all together. I love that because I enjoy these characters and like seeing them again! At 532 pages, this book is a force to be reckoned with! It never dragged and the pacing was perfect! Before I knew it, I was done! This series has made me a fan of Tracy St. John, and I will readily read whatever she comes up with in this facinating Kalquor World!

Since I bought my first e-reader and discovered the vast array of books that are not available in the bookstore, series books have a limited place on my shelf. After a handful, if that many, I usually move on. So why am I reading Alien Indiscretions, the ninth book in the Clans of Kalquor series? As the series continues, the story just keeps getting better.

In Alien Indiscretions, there is a Prologue that does an excellent job of summarizing the events of leading up to this book. I will attempt to summarize the summary here. Warning, if you have not read the series, there are spoilers here. Skip the next three paragraphs to avoid most (but not all) spoilers from books 1-8.

There you have it. Now, Kalquor is a political fuse box just waiting to be ignited. In previous books in the series, the political situation was slowly taking shape. In Alien Indiscretions, Kalquor is to have a day of reckoning. Back at the beginning of the Kalquor story, when the mass abduction took place, I didn’t like it – even though I sympathized with the Kalqorians and even though the abducted women eventually found a better life. So dealing with that event in Alien Indiscretions seems a natural progression of the Kalquorian story.

Dramok Diltan is a fascinating character. Born into a wealthy family, he felt the need to prove his own worth. Successful, ambitious and devoted to the Empire, Dilton will struggle with his role in exposing the parties that gave the abduction orders. At the same time, his appearances-are-everything attitude is at odds with his attraction to the Earther Cecilia. With Cecilia, or Cissy, what you see is what you get and she is reveling in the freedom she enjoys since leaving earth. Cissy and Diltan are oil and water. Luckily, Dilton has clan mates, Nobek Rolat and Imdiko Wal, that a) are also attracted to Cissy and b) like to remind Dilton that he needs to come down off of his high horse. The interaction between the loving clan mates and with Cissy was fun. And sexy.

When it comes to sex scenes, Ms. St. John does not hold back. Creative and erotic, these interactions also develop the relationship between clan Dilton and their potential Matara Cissy.

The relationship development cycle is the part of this series that I would call cookie-cutter. That is to say, the relationship between the clan du jour and their potential Matara develops in much the same way. They meet, have sex, get to know each other, have sex, fall in love, have sex, there is peril and there is rescue and finally, there is more sex. Ms. St. John does a great job of making each love story new and thrilling. But to be honest, if each story in this series had nothing more to it, I would never had made it to book 9.

Throughout this series, Ms. St. John has given much thought to the ongoing situation with Kalquor and its dying race, Earth and its survivors, and the interplanetary issues that plague them. The effects of war and the aftermath of the conflict have provided a variety of relevant situations that have contributed to great plots. As the series has continued, the plots have become more complex and the number of pages per book seems to keep increasing. At 532 pages, Alien Indiscretions treatment of an intricate political environment is complete and satisfying. Confession time. As the story progressed and I got more and more involved in the plot, there was an increased tendency to quickly scan the sex scenes to I could get back to the main story.

If you have not read any of the Clans of Kalquor series, the Prologue of this book will get you caught up so you don’t have to read 1-8. However, if you want to read some of the earlier books in the series, I recommend, #1 Alien Embrace, #2 Alien Rule, #3 Alien Conquest, #6 Alien Redemption, and #7 Alien Refuge. These five books all deal with major characters and relevant events leading up to Alien Indiscretions.

After reading #9, am I still into this series? Oh yes. As long as Ms. St. John continues to deliver creative, interesting and dramatic plots as in Alien Indiscretions, I’ll continue to read the series. When #10 in the Clans of Kalquor series is released, I’ll be adding it to my shelf.

Oh boy, shit just got real in Kalquor folks! Alien Indiscretions may just be the most action-packed installment in the series to-date, or at least on level with Alien Salvation and the aftermath of Earth’s self-inflicted Armageddon. Which is rather appropriate as it also brings Dramok Diltan back on the scene as a potential suitor for another of the Empress Jessica’s relatives – Cissy Salter. As I haven’t read Alien Salvation in quite a while, Diltan’s name didn’t ring any bells until the incident between him and Lindsey is brought up and boy did I remember him then. So between Diltan’s past encounter with Lindsey, his unwanted attraction to the brash and in-your-face Cissy, the uncovering of the secrets regarding the original abduction of Earther Mataras (pay close attention to the Prelude to a Scandal pre-chapter), and the Kalquor people on the brink of civil war, Alien Indiscretions was a page-turner of epic proportions and not because of its length.

The author begins the book like most in the series, with the focus on the Earther Matara. In this case, we’re actually treated to two because Cissy and her identical twin sister Tasha are being escorted to Kalquor to be reunited with their cousins Jessica (Empress) and Lindsey. As they too had a Buddhist upbringing like their cousins, Cissy and Tasha are not as repressed as many of the Earther females have been and it’s made clear that they enjoyed their time on the transport ship with the numerous Kalquor men escorting them. You go girls! But they are ready to be off the ship so they can enjoy spending time with their cousins and life NOT under Earth’s religious fanaticism. Unfortunately as they are considered royalty, they must suffer through (in Cissy’s opinion) a diplomatic welcome. It is during this reception the Cissy and Diltan first bump heads and sparks fly – but not the good kind. Neither makes a good impression on the other and Diltan’s interest in clanning with Tasha would be fine by Cissy except she’ll be stuck interacting with the arrogant arse on holidays. I have to say that I found the first encounter between Cissy, Wal and Rolat hilarious, which only made Clan Diltan’s dates with Tasha even more painfully boring. Fortunately for Diltan, his Imdeko and Nobek take matters – or should I say Cissy – into their own hands and Diltan is provided the opportunity to see what he is passing up due to his snobbery. This is where Cissy’s Buddhist upbringing comes into play – she’s not saddled with the sexual repression that many of the Earthers are so she’s far more adventurous in the bedroom. It turns out that Cissy was made for Kalquorian bedroom games and she is very well-matched with Clan Diltan. This makes for some out-of-this-world hot sex scenes throughout the book. But with all that is going on in the Empire, clanning between Cissy and Clan Diltan is not as simple as it should be.

Maybe it’s because I haven’t re-read the series in a while, but I felt like we got to know Wal and Diltan far better than previous potential clan mates. This is largely due to the other main focus of Alien Indiscretions – the secrets behind the Earther Matara abductions that led to the war with Earth and its ultimate destruction. As a Royal Councilman and a member of the Ethics committee, Diltan was chosen to review former Emperor Zarl’s records and it was within these records he found the order for the Earther Matara abductions – an order everyone knew was given, but no one had been able to find evidence of who had given it. Understanding the potential ramifications of the documents, Diltan was at a loss of how to proceed – protect the Empire or adhere to rules of transparency. When he consults with a fellow colleague as to what to do, he unknowingly gives the opposition the “smoking gun” that could be the end of the Kalquorian Empire. As all of this is going on when his clan begins to court Cissy, we spend a good deal of time in Diltan’s presence and get to know him as he grapples with the enormity of his misplaced faith in a colleague. Once Diltan makes the former Emperor’s records public, we get a much closer look at Wal as he is one of the judges who must preside over the hearing regarding Zarl’s records and who else was involved. St. John gives readers a rather in-depth look into Kalquor’s governing bodies through Diltan and Wal’s jobs and their involvement in the case. But rest assured that in-depth does not mean boring. I was absolutely fascinated with both Diltan’s discoveries, the proceedings that Wal oversaw, and the emotional and ethical issues both men faced while carrying out their duties. Much like the Kalquor people, I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what the verdict would be. I was both shocked yet not by the decisions. Yet I wasn’t prepared for what took place in the Royal Council just days later. While St. John does provide the happy ending for the relationship between Cissy and Clan Diltan, the author has left the future of Kalquor hanging in the balance. I cannot wait to see what happens next and hopefully I won’t have to wait too long.

I reviewed my personal copy of this book.

Boy am I exhausted after reading this book. A really good exhausted though! The ‘staying up until 2AM when I know I have to get up for work at 5:30AM’ kinda exhausted!!! :D

Alien Indiscretions is the 9th book in the Clans of Kalquor series written by Tracy St. John. It is one of my favorite SciFi Erotica series and I LOVE TELLING EVERYONE I KNOW ABOUT IT!!

As always I LOVE these characters! Cissy was a rambunctious chick with an awesome attitude, and Diltan (a congressman), Wal (a judge), and Rolat (a badass in charge of the Penal Colonies) fit very well with her. There were a few things that I will say I was a bit disappointed in though.

Sadly not a lot of one-on-one meetings happened between the chick and the clan members in this specific story. There was one lunch date that Cissy had with Diltan, but I honestly don’t recall Rolat or Wal getting any alone time with her. Hmmmmm……I like when the previous books have had each of the guys spending individual time with the Matara. You always get to see what makes him so special that way.

My next “Blah” thought isn’t really about this book in particular but I guess relates to all the Clan of Kalquor books. I’ve noticed that the stories that revolve around the clan finding their female focus stickily on MF sex. Yes the other clan members are there when it’s happening but anyone who has read the Clan Beginnings spin-off series knows that these clans are made up of 3 males who are intimate lovers. The Matara focused books make small mention of this in different parts of them, but you never see dude on dude action in them!! UGH!! Maybe I’m a weirdo but as a female who doesn’t have manly parts, I find 2 guys getting freaky with each other super hot. That’s what I LOVE about the Clan Beginnings series!! It has MM/MMM all over the place because the story is about how the Dramok, Imdiko, and Nobek become a clan. It’s like once the Marata comes into the picture, the guys lose their passion for each other. It makes me sad deep down inside….

Lastly, this is book specific, I just couldn’t get with the whole master/slave thing in this one. I couldn’t take it seriously without laughing when Cissy would call one of them “Master”. To each their own fetish or fantasy I suppose. I’m down for domination and control being taken over me but I ain’t calling any man “Master”!

This particular book gets really into the political issues that are going on in the world of Kalquor which I got super antsy over. I loved how it expanded on things that happened in the first book as well as the following ones. You really need to read it after the others in the series so that you can understand how the instability of the Kalquor Empire came about.

I'm a long-time fan of St. John's "Clans of Kalquor" series, and had been looking forward to this latest installment. But somehow this story just never gained any traction with me.

Twins Cissy and Tasha, cousins of Empress Jessica, arrive on Kalquor at a time of considerable unrest related to the divisive issue of Kalquor/Earther interbreeding. Now that the truth is known about the initial Earther 'abductions,' it appears that the very survival of the Kalquor empire is in jeopardy. The twins are happy to be reunited with Jessica, but Cissy isn't interested in all the imperial protocol and etiquette of the palace, she just wants to have fun after years of looking out for Tasha. Dramok Diltan, a wealthy and influential Councilman with ties to the Imperial family, is taken aback by Cissy's lack of restraint and outrageous behavior, but at the same time there's a tug of attraction that they can't ignore. As Diltan and Cissy circle each other, they're caught up in the intrigues and maneuverings that arise in the political battles that will decide the future of the empire.

Yawn....

I never really felt any connection to the characters. I get that Cissy's just cutting loose and enjoying her freedom, but I didn't see why she had to be so rude and abrasive about it to people who were trying to be helpful and kind to her and her family. Diltan certainly was a more interesting character -- yes, he'd been a social climber who was too wrapped up in being accepted, but at least he knew how obnoxious he'd been, and was trying to made amends. I couldn't figure out why he (and his clanmates) were so enamored with Cissy -- they say opposites attract, but how could anyone put up with her nonsense? There's plenty of sex between/among Cissy and the guys, but even that felt too formulaic -- and I ended up skipping over lots of it (!).

While the whole backstory about the initial Earther abbuctions was interesting, I had a difficult time getting too engaged in all the strategizing about who would get indicted, who would take the fall, etc...it just seemed to go on too long.

I'm curious to see if St. John writes another installment, and I wonder if I'll read it if she does.

Another great addition to the Clans of Kalquor series. It was wonderful to get a glimpse into the lives of our previous protagonists, not that the main story was lacking in excitement! For a sci-fi/drama/erotic, St. John really nails the humor in this one, right away I loved the heroines easy and teasing relationship with her sister and her cousins. And I'm never, ever gonna get sick of stiff Nobek guard reactions to the girls pushing each other around. Cissy's love interests are a good mix of adorable and demanding and I love that they don't immediately see eye to eye. My only wish was that there was a little more one on one time with our beefcake Nobek Rolat. Wal and Dilton (mostly Dilton) kinda stole the show. Also, Rolat's job in the prison system was totally begging for some prisoner/warden role-playing with Cissy, just saying ;)

Identical twins Cissy and Tasha are, at first glance, opposites but they both shared a whole lot of love and spitfire so I really can't wait to see Tasha's love story (fingers crossed it's one of the next few books.)

4.5 Stars. Great read and I can't wait for the next one in the series!
Clans of Kalquor 9, Alien Indiscretions, follows Empress Jessica's cousin Cissy and Clan Diltan. We met Dramok Diltan briefly in Alien Salvation and frankly he was not very likable then. I wasn't sure whether I would like him as one of the "heroes" since he had been a "villain" in the previous book. The author does a good job of making him relatable as well as repentant. The conflict between Cissy and Clan Diltan is actually pretty tame with most of the angst coming from external sources. I appreciate there wasn't a lot of miscommunications and waffling back and forth by the characters. Sometimes that type of conflict can get old. I loved how they actually talked out their issues in an honest and healthy way. As always with Tracy St. John the love scenes were hot, hot and more hot. I can't wait until the next book is out and I look forward to seeing how the author deals with the Basma.

I really enjoy the raucous Clans of Kalquor with their insanely gorgeous, subserviant men. What's great about them is that while being avid adorers of women, they are also emotionally powerful and do not portray weakness of character at all. It's pretty heady stuff! Their matches are also unique in that they always involve a foursome, but their beds are more than accommodating. :-D This particular installment involved a pairing in which both the heroine and Leader of the male clan weren't my favorite couple of the Clans I've read about. I could see the shock factor that played out in the Clan being attracted to the heroine, but not really sure what made this Clan so enticing to her? Besides this in your face behavior she exemplified only entertains for so long and then it just gets irritating and immature. Overall, I still enjoyed the story enough to finish it and hope the next one holds an enjoyable surprise.

A slow starter for sure. At 22 percent into the book, I was struggling to stay with it. But I’m glad I stayed. Tracy St. John gave us another entertaining book in her Kalquor series. She has a talent in bringing the characters to life. The vile Maf with his disfigurement, the mouthy Cissy, the proper Tasha, and then the Diltan clan. It was a political drama and the author made a good decision to use high political figures for the clan, which added to the unfolding drama. And the drama of the courtroom was exciting and very well written. I was going to say that the sex scenes were too involved and too many; however, to lessen them would have made the clanning bid too fast and forced, not believable. This was a good read.

Awe

This did have more political plot to it than clanning. However there was still clanning between cissy and clan diltan. Wow they make a lively clan to. I mean cissy has an attitude I love in a heroine and the explosive interactions between dramok diltan was hilarious. I loved hearing more of the sub plot that came into focus this time. Things have just gotten alot hairier on kalqour and fear for the clans because of the basma spouting his poison causing dissent. The earthen leader Copeland Browning needs to be found and executed like yesterday. Still an enjoyable read fans would still love this book.

An enthralling story. Only problem I had after re-reading all 8 previous books the steamy scenes got really old. I skimmed most of them and was at times displeased at their occurrence. It felt to me like they had to boink at the most inopportune times - like Ms. St.John felt the urge to press that unnecessary scene in for fear people with criticize the lack of steam in the book. The sub-plot was so suspenseful that I was like "Aww do you guys have to do that now? I wanna know what happens next in the court hearing!" most of the time.

Another winner!

Tracy St. John can certainly keep me completely entertained with her Kalquorians and Earther Mataras! I really enjoyed this book and the continuation of the saga. The characters of Cissy and Tasha were well written and I loved the Diltan clan as well. I look forward to seeing Maf get exposed in future books! He is a great villain. From Diltan's appearance in earlier books where he made an ass of himself- all I can say is he has come a long way! Great writing as usual Tracy!

From a dedicated reader and lover of all of your books, not just the clans of kalquor, this is a major disappointment. You can see your excellent writing bleeding through the pages, but this is just too major a change from someone reading about females with morals. I guess this is just my opinion, but this girl is acting like a rebellious teenager, not a religion weary woman who has just found her freedom to be a person. I'm just glad that this book is over. Sorry.

Not to be missed

Tracey St John never fails to give us a fantastic journey, this story was ripe with excitement and continuing the stories of Kalqour, always a happy ending for the heroes and heroines e of the story. Sensuous and exciting the sex in these stories are a ten, never fail to please and excite the reader. Cissy finds her happy ending. Yes I recommend this series to all who enjoy the sci-fi with the edge of BDSM and eroticism.

Another Enjoyable Book in the Universe of Kalquor

The book was well written and editing. Old characters from other books in the series as well new ones. The universe in which Kalquor exists is complex and rich. I recommend this book as well as the entire series of "Clans of Kalquor."

Again I tend to like Tracy's work. This was no exception. The female was difficult to like but not without redeeming value as a person. The clan was interesting. I like that Tracy is branching out in terms of adding more world building. It makes her books so much more than sexy sci-fi. Wish she would a book about Cristy's sister. She seems like she has a story to tell.

2.5... I'm rounding up 'cause I love this series but I couldn't get into this book. I picked it up and put it back down 5 times in the last two weeks. The only reason I forced myself to finish it was because it was part of a group challenge. I never warmed up to Diltan, which may have been the problem, I didn't hate him but he was really annoying to me to the very end

Hot and Sexy

Great new story from Tracy! Really thought it was hot with the clans looking for their one woman. I am hoping they good guys can win out over the bad ones and kalquor comes out whole on the political stage.

Fantastic episode to the continuing story of missing Earth women and politics on Kalquor as well as the uual intense love scenes that include often a bit of BDSM and those luscious Kalquorian males!
