Librarian's note: Alternate cover edition of ASIN B00JK9HUE6.

A sturdy pair of heels and a well hidden gun can do wonders for a girl’s self-esteem, especially when fighting a secret battle against genetically-enhanced, murderous creatures who mockingly call themselves angels. Maya is finally getting the hang of the vigilante life, but that’s about the only thing going right. Tarren is more distant than ever, and Gabe wants off the DL even when it’s obvious that he’s nowhere near fighting fit.

When Gabe detects angel activity in the Midwest, Maya and Tarren plunge into a treacherous snow storm to take out the threat. They aren’t the only hunters prowling the icy streets. Can Maya convince the mask-wearing Totem members that she’s on their side before she becomes their primary target?

Painful secrets thaw, the stakes climb ever higher, and witty retorts are epically flubbed in this action-packed third book of Girl With Broken Wings series. Infused with dark humor, Rising invites readers back into Maya’s quirky and conflicted world. Even as the storm grows fiercer and betrayal threatens to freeze the bonds of family, Maya discovers the warm blush of a dangerous romantic connection. Will she be strong enough to defeat her enemies, reunite her wounded family, and cut the tender chords of love before her angle nature severs them permanently?

Find out who will rise from the storm and who gets buried in Rising, Girl With Broken Wings

Exciting and riveting! The hunt for angels killing humans gets more complicated as Maya discovers there are more than one kind of angel.

Her snarky humor is matched by the irreverent Gabe and stoic Tarren, her half brothers who are determined to kill every last angel on earth.

This series is ever fascinating as it explores the depths of what it means to be human.

Mild spoilers (if you haven't read previous books in series)

Opening scene - think of the most unlikely place you would EVER find Tarren -- HAH you know he HATED that entire part. But, as always, he does his part no matter how uncomfortable because the team required it - and obv Gabe is in NO place to help.

This book draws out the guilt, anguish, and tension experienced between the trio as the physically heal from the encounter with Grand as well as have to face difficult confessions to heal emotional trauma. It is raw and new and brutal. The apple cart of this sibling balance has been upset as Maya did the one thing she never wanted to do...to one of the closest people in her life, no less. No matter how successful, was it worth it? Likely so, even if her relationships with her brothers can never be fully healed.

I’m so happy for these characters. They are truly engrossing, and so full of life, both the good and, often, sad aspects of it, which in essesence is what makes it ‘life’.

Another amazing story in the Girl With The Broken Wings series. I couldn't put it down. With many authors as a series continues the stories start to suffer. There are only a handful of authors I think that not only keep the story going but they make each book better than the last. J. Bennett is definitely one of those few. I find that I have an attachment to the characters she's created. And I'm not looking forward to this series ending. Time to start Recovering. I can't wait to see what Gabe was up to.
