Test Drive
Sean Waters is down on his luck thanks to the economy, and winds up working for his domineering father’s car dealership. It’s not the greatest job, but it’s a paycheck. The only problem? He’s got a wicked crush on the general manager, Jackson Rayburn. When Jackson suggests a drive in one of the brand new sports cars, Sean has no idea it’s not the car Jackson really wants to take for a spin. They both need this job, though, and the boss isn’t keen on employees getting involved with each other. But it’s just a lusty little crush anyway, so they can move on and pretend nothing ever happened. Can’t they? This short story was previously published, and has been revised and expanded to 15,000 words.

Mi piacerebbe davvero capire perché nessun altro ha lasciato qualche parere su Amazon, perché a me la storia è piaciuta parecchio...
Essendo una novella breve, si legge davvero in poco tempo e penso che sia inutile star qui a rammaricarmi su quanto avrei voluto più pagine e più storia e più descrizioni o introspezione.
È una storia godibile? Sì. Mi è piaciuta perché ha saputo coinvolgermi – pur nella sua brevità – e mi ha conquistato il rapporto tormentato tra Sean e Jackson, il fatto che la loro relazione ‘proibita’ si scontri con un problema reale e verosimile. Ho apprezzato il giusto mix di sensualità e dolcezza e la Witt è ormai una garanzia per me.
Se cercate una storia breve, ma piacevole, questo racconto autoconclusivo potrebbe fare al caso vostro.

Jackson has been the general manager for Sean's dad's car dealership for years. Sean has been lusting after the older sexy man for years but knew that nothing would ever come of it, until Jackson takes him for a....test drive! ;)
Once they give in to their lust it makes it almost impossible to stop, but the boss has made it more than clear over the years, he has no problem firing people who cross him, and he does not want any inter office dating.
The resolution was maybe a bit easy, but I liked that they were willing to do and give up for the chance at more. It's a very hopeful HFN ending.

Wanted it to be longer. If it had been I would have loved it. The sex was hot and the two MC's were crazy for each other, but it felt too short for my personal taste.

Questa autrice mi ha abituato a storie piuttosto "forti", soprattutto dal punto di vista emozionale; "Giro di Prova", invece, scorre tutto sommato senza grandi scossoni verso il meritato HEA. Sean ha dovuto tornare a lavorare per il padre a causa della crisi che ha fatto chiudere la sua vecchia azienda; alla concessionaria Sean ha ritrovato anche Jackson, l'uomo per cui da sempre prova una fortissima attrazione. Non è facile però per i due vivere serenamente la loro passione poichè le politiche aziendali non permettono relazioni tra colleghi (ed entrambi hanno la neccessità di mantenere il loro impiego), ma i sentimenti trovano, per fortuna, il modo di farsi valere. Un racconto che consiglio per passare qualche momento spensierato e piacevole, magari anche per riprendersi da letture troppo intense!

3.5 stars for a very short but fun and sexy story. I listened to the audiobook and I think the accents and the great narration added a lot. I'm glad I listened to the book. It did not last long, but I had fun with it. The focus is attraction and sex, but the potential for a romance is set up with a HFN ending.

Parto col dirvi che a me le storie di L.A. Witt piacciono sempre. Una più o meno dell’altra, ma le apprezzo tutte. Questo racconto, per quanto corto e con tutti i limiti che può avere un racconto, mi ha tenuto incollata e mi ha fatto tifare per i nostri protagonisti.
Sean Waters ci accompagna in questa storia tra lui e Jackson Rayburn, due uomini che lavorano nella concessionaria del padre di Sean e che sono attratti l’uno dall’altro in una maniera tale per cui lavorare nello stesso posto diventa difficile. Sean ha sempre avuto una cotta per Jackson, il direttore generale delle vendite della concessionaria, ma quello che non sa è che l’uomo ricambia la sua attrazione. Quando Sean, a causa della crisi, rimane senza lavoro, è costretto ad andare a lavorare presso la concessionaria del padre. Una sera viene avvicinato da Jackson che gli propone di fare un giro di prova su un’automobile sportiva che hanno in vendita, ma quello che è nato come un test di prova per la macchina, darà libero sfogo alla loro passione, liberando i freni inibitori dei due uomini. La realtà, però, si insinua tra di loro, mettendoli davanti al fatto che lavorano nello stesso posto e per il padre di Sean, contrario ai rapporti tra i colleghi. La loro storia sarà fatta di tira e molla: sanno di non poter vivere la loro relazione, ma allo stesso tempo non riescono a resistere. La loro attrazione è talmente forte da costringerli a prendere decisioni che possono sconvolgere le loro vite, facendoli tentare il tutto per tutto.
Questo racconto è focalizzato molto sulla grande attrazione tra i due e, anche se ho apprezzato le scene di sesso, a volte avrei voluto sapere qualcosa in più sul carattere dei due uomini. Ma, come dicevo all’inizio, è solo un racconto e, come tale, è concentrato su alcune cose più che su altre. Non vi dirò altro perché potrei dire troppo, ma alla fine posso solo consigliarvelo. Passerete qualche oretta in compagnia di un bel racconto, scritto da una scrittrice che apprezzo molto e, se siete curiose come me, alla fine vorrete leggerne ancora e ancora!

Now he’s not only forced by bad economy to work for his father again, but he has to endure working side by side with his wet dream. If that was bad, things get torturous after a “test drive” that ends with both men in Jackson’s bed.
Every fantasy Sean had is ten times worse now that he actually had the man. They can’t be together or they’ll lose their jobs, but working side by side isn’t an option either.
I loved this story. As office affairs go this one is by far the most erotic one I read. The characters were totally in sink and the chemistry cracking. There was this tang of desperation throughout the story that made for a few raised heartbeats. I kept expecting for something really bad to happen. As it was I got treated with some seriously sexy scenes that had me fanning myself and thirsty for more.
Another thing I’ve come to realize about this author’s writing is that she has this incredible ability to paint images in your head. It was practically impossible for me not to see this pair in my mind’s eye; it was like watching a movie. I loved them and yeah I’d love more of them. If only this read was longer. *sigh*
So there you have it, charming characters, hot cars, a plot full of angst and hot intimate scenes. All that wrapped in an office affair package delivered by a very talented pen. Strongly recommended.

Hm....I love L.A. Witt and that little piece is well written and all...but it somehow lacked something. It's nice and quick to read but it's nothing that will stay with you.

When Sean Waters got his MBA, he didn’t think he’d end up working for his demanding dad as one of his car salesmen. The only upside is Jackson Rayburn, the General Manager of the car dealership, a guy Sean has always had a secret crush on. After a memorable test drive, both men fear they’ll lose their jobs if they pursue a relationship, but what’s more important? This 59-page short story was sweet, slightly spicy, and predictable with two nice-guy leads. As the story is told from Sean’s POV, there wasn’t much time or space to develop Jackson’s character, but there was reasonable insight into Sean. I felt the road block to happiness resolved fairly easily in the end so while the story was pleasant enough, it lacked depth or oomph. Audio narrator Michael Giorgio did a good job with some nice southern accents.

This book is apparently part of a series (Office Affairs), according to the Goodreads info on the book. I get the impression they are all standalone stories about office romances. This book is short, so it’s more a novella. It’s just meh to ok. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone as it adds nothing to your life. Don’t waste your time unless you’re a diehard Witt fan. If that’s the case you may enjoy this appetizer of a story. I’m a fan of Witt, but hit and miss on her stories. This was a miss for me most likely because of the length being to short for anything like character development and story development.

I love a good short story.
Test Drive is a pretty hot short story and I really enjoyed listening to it. Michael Ferraiuolo is one of my favorite audiobook performers and L.A. Witt is one of my favorite authors. Together the two of them make audiobook magic!
If you read the blurb there's not a lot more I can say about the story. It has some pretty hot moments and two men who are willing to give up a lot to see where their relationship goes. It was a great way to spend a little time this evening.

After completing an MBA Sean hasn’t been able to find a job other than working for his father at his car dealership. His father knows he’s gay but he has a strict no-dating policy between staff. And Sean has just found out that Jackson, the silver fox he’s had a crush on since he was a teen is gay. He’s also the manager.
After a couple of nights together they try to stop but if there’s a chance at a longer relationship, they each want to take it, but who leaves? And who tells dad?

Pretty standard read. For a short story, I actually thought it was well paced, and though we didn't get a ton of emotional depth, that's to be expected with such a short format. I but too much smut given how little space there was to work with, and the dynamics weren't my personal thing, but generally enjoyable read.

Romance and Fantasy for Cosmopolitan Girls
Si tratta di un racconto di una cinquantina di pagine, ma nonostante la brevità, L.A. Witt è riuscita a creare una storia molto bella nella sua semplicità.
Sean è un trentaquattrenne che si ritrova disoccupato per via della crisi economica ed è quindi costretto a lavorare per il padre, come venditore nella sua concessionaria. Fin qui, a parte l’orgoglio da ingoiare, nulla di strano, ma la sua ventennale cotta per Jackson non rende il suo ambiente lavorativo più confortevole. Galeotto un giro di prova su una bellissima spider e anche le fantasie più sfrenate divengono realtà, ma come conciliare quest’attrazione con le ferree regole sui rapporti tra impiegati dettate dal padre/padrone?
Una storia frizzante e scorrevole che fa riflettere su cosa sia davvero importante nella nostra vita, su come sia difficile lasciarsi guidare dalla razionalità quando si vorrebbe solamente poter seguire il proprio cuore.
Una lettura raccomandata per trascorrere qualche ora nel mondo delle belle macchine e delle occasioni da cogliere.

I didn’t love the narrator but he did a fair job. At times he just sounded a bit too cheesy and not comfortable with his roles. As the narration went along he got better, but at first he was very rushed and spoke very quickly.
I loved the short story and enjoyed the narration and for both I give it 4.5 of 5 stars.

In a word: Read the thing. This was sweet, and entirely too short. Sean and Jackson are co-workers working at Sean’s father’s car dealership. They’ve been into each other for years, but only now decide to give in to their attraction and fall in bed together. Theirs is a bit of a complicated relationship because they both work for Sean’s father, and he doesn’t like his employees having romances with each other. I really liked this one; I thought it was nice and emotional and had a happy enough ending. It’s a simple story about two men who want to be together but feel like they can’t be, and the emotional turmoil they end up in because of that. They come together on a whim, but even knowing that they can’t be together, they can’t really manage to stay apart. They aren’t in love, but they very easily could be, and they know they’d both regret not being able to give their relationship a chance.

I’m getting repetitive, or maybe I should try to read a wider variety of authors. As it is, I adore L.A. Witt’s stories – both long and short - and Test Drive completely lived up to my expectations. It is short but that doesn’t mean it isn’t hot, or complete.
From the moment Sean and Jackson come together it’s clear that’s where they should be, and I found myself rooting for them from the very first kiss. Their dilemma is recognisable and realistic; in the current economic climate nobody can afford to take risks with their jobs.
Of course being sensible is far harder in practice than it is in theory and it’s only a matter of time before something has to give. I liked the way the story ended. It was the ending I’d been hoping for from the start and I was very happily surprised to have my wish granted.

Sean has crushed on his dad's employee since he helped out in high school. Now due to the economy he's working for dad again and Jackson is still there. After a test drive together things heat up. But dad has a policy on dating at work. Can they have each other and their job, too. They need to man up and go to dad.

Test Drive is a well-written story that I would recommend to anyone looking for a steamy chemistry between the heroes. While I would have liked to see more depth in the characters, I still found it to be a pleasant read that lived up to its expectations.
