Holt, a poor farm-boy, and Danis of Vanderthan, a warrior-princess, join together to prevent the forces of evil from recovering a magical artifact that, unbeknownst to them, could destroy the kingdom. Original.

A solid little fantasy romp. Nothing too deep here. Just good ol' fashioned sword and sorcery adventure. Definitely feels like someone novelized their 1st edition D&D game though.
I'm not sure what series another reviewer here read but all three of these novels are by Douglas Niles (Pawns Prevail, Suitors Duel, and Immortal Game) and definitively have to do with each other. That said, this is a fun read. While meant for a younger audience, the dialogue amd imagery is well written and a bit scary. Don't let the cover fool you, its a good deal different than it looks. An unusual tale in which many of the events are caused entirely by outside forces playing a game. Almost like a Dragonlance for teens novel. Looking forward to the other novels.
Good book for small kids to preteen reading age trying to get into sci fi fantasy. These books are pretty old though. I got mine from the library. It is a series of books under the name First Quest but written by different authors and all the books are unrelated to each other. easy reading language. The story was fast paced.
