As someone who grew up with X-Men in her life (the animated TV Shows, the comics, films & games), you don't know how fast I was to request this read. Rogue & Gambit IS mypersonal favorite pairing in the X-Men universe, so reading this brought me a lot of joy. I'm glad that both Bou-Montes & Iyengar kept true to both of the characters' behaviors, tendencies, and flirtatious banter. Lot's of flirtatious banter. We got Rogue's spunky attitude with Remy's common miscommunication trope but making it up to her. All in all, for me to say, the fictional prose was captured beautifully by Bou-Montes & Iyengar. I loved getting the cameos from some of our favorite and notable mutants as well!
I do think you should go into this at least having a background in the X-Men universe, it's characters and their powers. In this case, which plays a role in her on/off romance with the reknown thief, Gambit/Remy LeBeau.
The overall story of this novel revolves around Rogue following Remy to his home town in Louisianna, to solve the issue of a mysterious company buying out historical properties throughout New Orleans. No one can remember signing these contracts and this puts the duo into detective mode. To which in X-men fashion, brings in a lot of events revolving other infamous members of the x-men universe. I enjoyed that the story never really strayed away from what was the focus of the plot but again, felt that the ending was rushed and anticlimactic (and why I rounded down vs up). Everything else was /chef's kiss I don't believe this read to be "steamy" in terms of people looking for spice, but the yearning, OH THE YEARNING, was there. I mean, Rogue does struggle with intimacy because of her powers and Remy wants to do anything and everything just to get a taste.

arc review!!!
this was such a fun read especially after having just finished watching X-Men ‘97 🤭.
You definetly should have some basic X-Men knowledge to fully appreciate the story. Rogue and Gambit are such iconic characters and the authors did an amazing job of keeping them true to themselves. The story was interesting and kept me hooked.
Marvel should definetly continue with novels like this because they’d get all my money. (they already get all my money… i mean have yall seen how many comics i’ve read lately LOL but still… my point stands.)

I had no idea that Marvel had contracted a romance novel, but I’m not complaining! Fan favourites Rouge and Gambit have had an on again, off again relationship throughout various Marvel continuities, and this particular iteration pulls heavily from recent comic storylines and X-Men ‘97 with choice callbacks to older material. This book taps into much of what fans like me love about their relationship and also crafts a satisfying tale about fighting predatory real estate practices and embracing oneself that feels suitably “X-Men” in scope.
Bou-Montes and Iyengar make great use of Remy’s hometown, New Orleans, highlighting well-known landmarks and culture touchpoints without glossing over the challenges the city faces. I really liked the choice of plotline: a mysterious company is buying up historical properties throughout New Orleans, but no one can quite remember or understand the contracts they signed. Remy and Rogue go to investigate, and, like any other good X-Men storyline, this sets off a chain of events that reveals many other movers and shakers in the X-Men universe. Unlike some other storylines, this one is self-contained and avoids becoming bloated, although I do feel like the ending was just slightly rushed; the climatic action, while satisfying, is the ending.
I really liked the relationship dynamic between Remy and Rogue: they’ve been flirting and together-but-not-together for some time, but it’s reached a point where they need to find a way to take the next step. Both of them felt very in character, which also means there’s a lot of rehashing common tropes of Remy failing to communicate and Rogue punching first and asking later. Okay okay okay, this book was actually so entertaining. I’ve read plenty of comics and graphic novels when it comes to superhero stories, but this was my first proper superhero novel, and I fear I’ve been sleeping on it. Because getting all that comic book chaos in prose form somehow made everything feel MORE immersive and layered. And making it a romance on top of that??? YES PLEASE. I got the full Rogue and Gambit experience, and I am NOT complaining.
I love that Rogue and Gambit still feel like themselves. Their personalities, attitudes, and whole dynamic felt so accurate to the characters I know from the comics. Sometimes adaptations accidentally changed what makes a character who they are, but thankfully these two remained chaotically themselves.
Now the yearning. Wait, sorry, that should be written in all caps. THE YEARNING. The tension between these two is so insane it should be illegal. I swear, their whole situation is so complicated it genuinely frustrated me. There’s something so heart-fluttering and achingly angsty about their dynamic. Like, oh my godddd WHAT AN ABSOLUTE DELIGHT. Oh, to be worshipped by Gambit and loved by Rogue, I genuinely don’t know who I want to be more #sendhelp.
And yes, the romance is definitely the main event, BUT we still get the X-Men supernatural mystery and adventure, and I loved that. As someone who grew up with X-Men content, there was something so nostalgic about it while still feeling like I was getting a deeper look into these characters and their journey.
My only complaint is that the conclusion felt a little rushed, I think it needed a bit more time for everything to properly land. But I’m not really mad about it, since the rest of this book gave me a five-course meal.
And Marvel, if you see this, PLEASE feed me more tie-in novels (preferably X-Men) because I would gladly devour them all.

It was such a fun and comforting book. I went into this books with little to no expectations other then spending some time with Rogue and Gambit on a mission. I found myself hooked from the beginning and was nicely surprised by a lot of elements.
First of all I loved both Rogue and Gambit depiction. As a x-men comic reader I feared that they would be a little different from the original source material but I was pleased to found them pretty much the same which was really cool.
Their relationship that swing between friendship and romance was incredibly well done ! I truly felt the depth of their feelings, affection and respect towards each other. And omg their very obvious feelings paired with Rogue’s inability to touch Gambit safely made the yearning absolutely top tier ! Like seriously the yearning in this book is so good ! Also love to see the other x-men characters coming from time to time (especially Kurt and Jean, my beloved).
In terms of the setting I want to applaud both writers for giving us such an immersive atmosphere. Everything about New Orleans (which is where most of the story takes place) was interesting and oddly comforting which we can feel through the writing and little details put in this book. I mean I really felt the writers’s love for this city.
Moreover the rather dark and gloomy vibe with the vampire(s) was a perfect addition, with the parallels as well between vampire and Rogue’s powers/similarities.
As for the plot I found it really good cause it was not simply a side thing for the development of the romance but rather developed.
So I recommend this book to anyone who love x-men and obviously Rogue and Gambit (and who need more of them) !

I would say you do need some understanding of the marvel comic universe and X-men to read this book - though if you went in blind I think it would be relatively easy to pick up. This book stayed very true to the characters - which I loved!
A mysterious real estate company is buying up blocks of properties all over New Orleans - but no one seems to remember the contracts they’ve signed. Remy goes to investigate through his ties to his old home, bringing Rogue with him. I love Remy and Rogue in every universe - and in this one especially with the tension and the banter !! They both felt very true to the characters that have already been established in the comics/films etc - through their dynamic, attitude and characterisation.
Can’t talk about a Rogue and Remy book without talking about the yearning. The yearning in this book is top tier. Their situation is genuinely so heartbreaking and they both deserve the biggest hug. The tension you get from two people who are so fiercely in love but can’t touch each other without dire consequences is INTENSE and angsty and downright devastating. It makes all the little moments that much more sweet and oh my god was this good.
While this book is all about Rogue and Remy - we still get quite a bit about the other X-men. You get the supernatural mystery and the adventure all the same as you would in the comics.
As someone who grew up with the marvel comics - there was something so nostalgic about reading this book. I adored Remy and Rouge and it was so great to get a whole book all about them! I would absolutely recommend this book to any marvel/x-men fans!!!!

I would have preferred a bit more action. However, the characterization of the X-Men characters was spot on! I felt like I was watching an episode of the classic animated show. It was also a lovely ode to the city of New Orleans and its history.
If Remy and Rogue are some of your favorite X-Men you will enjoy this romantic story. Their relationship ship was thoroughly explored and they both grew as characters. Other X-Men and Brotherhood characters make appearances but this is not a team/ensemble- focused book. The reader spends a majority of the time with those two as they investigate and navigate their relationship ship.
Overall a fun, fast-paced story and solid edition to the Marvel X-Men lore.

This book perfectly captured the iconic dynamic between Rogue and Gambit. The slowburn romance was so excellent, and the main mystery had me hooked. Rogue's touch-starved struggles with intimacy and feeling "broken" really resonated with me, and I appreciated how this book tackled on heavy themes such as gentrification, racism, and mutant discrimination with incredible sensitivity and depth. Overall, this comic tie-in respects its source material while offering a magical take on one of the most enduring love stories in the Marvel universe.
