Old Flames 2: Lockdown continues the story of the haunted cottage of Pantyfedwen, in the forested valley of Cwm Celyn in the West Wales uplands. Pantyfedwen is a cottage with a bloody history in this ghost landscape hidden behind the forestry plantations which cover the land.
In Old Flames, Carole, who owns the cottage, has successfully put the ghosts of the sea captain, Ifan, his white witch wife Mari, and her lover Owain to rest. That haunting of the summer of 2019 almost took Carole's life, and that of her boyfriend Peter and young lover Geraint, all three being possessed by the ghosts of the cottage.
But Pantyfedwen has not given up all of its there is another ghost at the cottage, that of the previous owner, John Phillips. This angry old man who killed himself at Pantyfedwen has his own violent history of murder. He was suspected of killing his wife during the 1960s. The removal of the ghosts of Ifan, Mari and Owain only opens the door to a new generation of ghosts at the cottage to emerge.
Spring 2020 arrives and ushers in not only a new decade, but a new the Covid pandemic locks down the world. Carole has returned to Pantyfedwen to grieve the death of her mother, but finds that she is herself seriously ill, having caught Covid in London.
Finding herself alone in Pantyfedwen, Carole battles brain fog, a confusion which hides the activities of the new generation of ghosts around her. These ghosts are sensed by their smell, and now Carole cannot smell due to contracting Covid.
Carole is not alone in coming to this haunted valley of Cwm Celyn. Geraint has returned early from university, and Dom, who owns a holiday home in the village has also run there. Geraint is as much in love with Carole as he was the previous summer. Dom is a man with marital problems, and his own history of violence.
Pantyfedwen is now haunted by John Phillips and his murdered wife, Rachel. At the time of her death, Rachel had a lover, Richard, a school teacher who disappeared in the mountains. Now the three ghosts return to Pantyfedwen, possessing Carole, Geraint and Dom. The ghosts' influence on Carole, Geraint and Dom increases as Calan Mai approaches, otherwise known as May Eve or Beltane, the night of the year when the barriers between the living and the dead are at their thinnest. The ghosts are set to relive their deaths at Pantyfedwen and take the living with them. They are alone, whilst the rest of the world is locked away in the grips of the Covid pandemic.
Carole and Geraint must again face history repeating itself with murderous intent at Pantyfedwen, where they are locked down by a pandemic in a valley of ghosts.
