The Traitor is exactly the kind of thriller that makes you question who you can actually trust. The story immediately hooked me with the idea of an encrypted message offering up Egypt’s nuclear secrets for a million dollars—and then dropping the suspicion on Dr. Murad Shaker, a celebrated nuclear scientist and national hero. That setup creates a fantastic contradiction: the evidence says one thing, while everything you know about the man says something completely different.
What I really enjoyed is how the investigation expands beyond a simple “find the traitor” mystery. Noha and Major Ahmed Galal are pulled into a web of cyber surveillance, cryptography, political intrigue, scientific rivalries, hidden identities, and old secrets. Every layer seems to reveal another question, and I liked that the book keeps playing with the idea that betrayal isn’t always about money or patriotism—it can be deeply personal. The technological and intelligence elements also give the story a modern espionage feel without losing the human stakes.
For me, The Traitor works best as a slow-burning conspiracy thriller where the real fun comes from trying to figure out who’s manipulating whom. It’s tense, paranoid, and built around a mystery that constantly makes you reconsider the people involved. I wouldn’t call it a nonstop action thriller; it’s much more interested in investigation, deception, and uncovering the machinery behind the conspiracy. Definitely worth checking out if you enjoy espionage, political thrillers, cybercrime, and stories where the person you trust most might be the person who destroys everything.

👤☢ A quiet thriller that keeps you thinking long after it’s over --
I was expecting more of an espionage action book, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that The Traitor took a more thoughtful approach without sacrificing any excitement or urgency. The book keeps you on a knife’s edge as you try to determine who really is the traitor, evoking great back-and-forth feelings about the innocence of the characters involved. And the reveal at the end is one that made me want to go back over all the puzzle pieces again to see them in a new light – just the kind of twist I like in thrillers.
I do wish there was a little more detail in some places. The writing style was a little sparse at times for me, but it did work for the story and the pacing and I greatly enjoyed the book!

Fast moving suspense
This book deserves 5 stars because it checks off my personal list of must haves: Quick read, easy to pick up where I left off, no wasted descriptions just the core of the story, and a plot twist.
