A strong start to the trilogy — and one I thoroughly enjoyed!
Fawkes Flight follows estranged siblings Eleanor and Evander as they take on covert missions. Eleanor is self-possessed, trusts her instincts, and never waits for permission; Evander is far more guarded and controlled. Fast-paced and tense, it balances sharp action with real emotional stakes and difficult choices. Perfect for anyone who loves espionage stories with complex family dynamics.
I’m so excited to see where the story goes next!

Firstly, thank you so much to the author for choosing me as an ARC reader. I was so grateful to be selected.
From page one this gets straight into the action and it reminded me of an episode of 24 (do you remember how epic that show was when it first came out?). Lots going on and the book almost reads like a movie - lots of shorter sentences but full of detail. I quite liked the pacing and that the story didn’t loiter.
This wasn’t my usual genre (spy thriller) to read and I think that because of that I was easily confused initially. There were lots of characters introduced throughout and I couldn’t fully place them or understand their roles. It’s also full of characters that really don’t like smiling and really fight it when they can feel one breaking across their faces. Maybe this is linked to the emotions tied to the job.
The missions really sucked me in and I was totally engaged during those. The main mission was the definition of a page turner and I couldn’t get enough.
Overall I enjoyed this - it’s an action packed, strong and well written first book in a trilogy.

This was such a good and engaging start to the FAWKES Trilogy. First of all I really liked the writing voice and I felt swept in to the world from the very first chapter. One thing I loved right away was how the story throws you straight into the action. You’re immediately introduced to the main characters, the world they operate in, and the tension between Eleanor and Evander that clearly promises more conflict down the line.
The book is packed with action, covert missions, and high-stakes situations, but it never loses sight of its characters. Even when the siblings are focused on surviving the mission at hand, you can still see their different moral compasses influencing the choices they make, which added a lot of depth to the story.
The sibling dynamic was easily my favorite part, but I’m also really excited to see where the found family elements go from here because they have so much potential.
Overall, Fawkes Flight is a fast-paced espionage thriller with compelling characters and plenty of intrigue. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what happens next in the series!

This one had me hooked from the jump. Espionage thriller, breakneck pacing, reads like it’s already storyboarding itself for a movie.
What got me most was Eleanor and Evander. Estranged siblings thrown back into each other’s orbit, and somehow the years apart melt away the second it actually matters. That’s what gives the action real weight, watching loyalty resurface in two people who’d stopped expecting it from each other. There’s one line, “You still with me?” “Always” and it hits different knowing how much distance came before it.

At its core, this is an espionage thriller with covert missions, high-stakes operations, and enough action to keep your pulse racing.
But beneath all of that, it is a story about estranged siblings, trust, loyalty, and the people who become family when your world demands sacrifices most people will never understand.
The story follows Eleanor Fawkes, who is recruited into the covert unit where her older brother, Evander, already serves.
They couldn't be more different. Eleanor trusts her instincts. Evander relies on discipline and control. Years of emotional distance suddenly have to coexist with life-or-death missions where hesitation isn't an option.
I have to admit, this is not a genre I naturally gravitate toward.
I love action films because I can see every explosion, every chase, every fight unfold in front of me.
Reading action has usually always felt harder because I struggle to picture most of the terms written in it. But Fawkes Flight surprised me.
The action feels incredibly cinematic without becoming confusing. Every sequence is easy to visualize, and every mission carries genuine tension because the emotional stakes are just as important as the physical ones.
What initially convinced me to pick this book up was the sibling relationship.
There simply aren't enough espionage stories where siblings stand at the center instead of romance. That instantly caught my attention, and I'm so happy it delivered.
Evander spends so much of the story trying to remain composed because that's what the job demands. He has trained himself to think strategically before emotionally. But there is one moment that completely shattered me.
Without giving away too much, when Eleanor is in danger, every carefully constructed wall around Evander crumbles. Watching him throw himself into trying to reach her reminded me that beneath every trained operative is still an older brother who cannot bear the thought of losing his sister. His breakdown at the hospital was one of the most emotional moments in the book for me because it felt so deeply human. It wasn't dramatic for the sake of drama. It was simply grief, fear, guilt, and love colliding all at once.
I also loved the team dynamic.
Every member of the unit brings a distinct personality and role, creating a genuine found family rather than simply feeling like supporting characters filling space. The trust between them has clearly been earned over years of working together, and I found myself growing attached to the entire team alongside Eleanor.
The writing itself deserves praise too. It flows effortlessly, balancing technical spy elements with emotional character moments in a way that never feels overwhelming. Even as someone new to reading espionage, I never felt lost.
One thing I appreciated about my reading experience is that I never rushed this book.
I took my own sweet time with it because some stories deserve to be lived with rather than raced through.
Every mission, every conversation, and every emotional beat landed because I allowed myself to settle into the world instead of speeding toward the ending.
And then came that ending.

To be honest, this isn’t a genre that I have much experience reading, but my Dad loved to read spy thrillers and action/ adventure novels, and he would always talk about them with me. So after I read the synopsis, I knew I wanted to give this genre a try in his memory ♥️ And I am so glad that I did.
I was so incredibly impressed with this book! It truly read like an action-packed movie, with the perfect pace and balance between suspense and emotional depth. I loved the dual POV of siblings Evander and Eleanor, and getting both sides of every experience and high-stakes situation. The character development throughout the book was genius - witty (and sometimes snarky) banter between team members and siblings will make you laugh out loud! Overall, this was a super enjoyable start to the Fawkes Trilogy, and I am so excited for what’s next!

This book reads like your typical spy movie. It jumped right into action and their missions were extremely detailed as they went through with them and saving the day.
As much as I enjoyed that, I can’t lie it confused the hell outta me lol. I was like oh man we’re fighting crime already, alright! There wasn’t a ton of detail about who they work for or why, just mostly context clues I suppose?
This wasn’t my typical read but I still enjoyed it. It was entertaining and nerve wracking, even if I didn’t quite know what was happening! This will be part of a trilogy so I’m looking forward to reading the next two as well!

I was thrilled to have received an ARC of this book before release and WOW what a start to this trilogy!! Trying to keep the review spoiler-free here, but the missions we follow these twins on genuinely keeps you on the edge of your seat! The dynamic between Eleanor and Evander was such a great touch on an already awesome action story. Also, Rei Fang is an incredible writer- their writing style had me anxious, laughing, sad, fulfilled, and everything in between. I cannot WAIT for the next one!!!

The dynamic of the characters was fantastic! The different ‘missions’ will keep you sucked into the story. This was a great start to the trilogy and I can’t wait for book #2!

Wasn’t expecting to get this invested. Genuinely surprised by how much I ended up caring about Eleanor and Evander. The missions are fun and easy to follow, but the sibling dynamic is what made me keep turning pages.
Their relationship has a lot of history without the book over-explaining everything, which I appreciated. You can tell they care about each other, but it’s not overly sentimental.
The pacing feels almost like an action movie. Tense and fast and unputdownable from start to finish. I’ll definitely read the next one.

This has a good sibling squabble and to be honest you don't get many books now a days which concentrates on siblings as main characters. The book is a spy thriller which is not my usual reading but still good. The usual actions,fightings,missions and team work were there.
I’ll be honest—the beginning was a bit confusing. The missions lacked enough background, leaving me wondering where they came from and who was behind them. I also couldn’t connect emotionally with the characters. The cover could be more eye-catching too. Overall, it’s a 3/5 read for me, but I’m adding an extra star for the author’s effort: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5.
