I picked this up from the annual Taschen sale, and as anticipated the layout and design is superb, the artwork sumptuous and all around world class. The writing is excellent, however it becomes quickly apparent that you're not going to get a detailed explanation of the style. It's more about the artists and their works. Notable names like Kooning, Pollock, Reinhardt and Rothko are showcased. Advanced art terminology like "ecriture automatique" are blotted throughout, without a hint of explanation. If you want to know what Abstract Expressionism is, go elsewhere. If you're familiar with the style and want to learn more about the artists, and view their best works in color on full pages, look no further.
