Zombies- as if that wasn’t enough to ruin any girl’s dream of a happily ever after.
Tyler Allen has spent a life time in hell. Long before the Zombie Apocalypse upended the rest of the world, she was forced to live under Matthias Allen’s tyranny. She thought she would spend her life under the control of her sadistic father.
Until she met the Parkers.
Vaughan Parker rescued Tyler from the Colony and saved her from a lifetime of pain and abuse. But he didn’t stop there.
Tyler resisted Vaughan at first, but his tender charm and sweet patience wore her down. They became something more than friends and Tyler slowly adjusted to their new relationship. Now he’s asking something of her she’s afraid to give him, something she doesn’t know if she can give him.
When the horrors of Tyler’s past finally catch up with her, she has to decide if she’s ready for everything Vaughan is offering or if she’s better off alone.
Love and Decay, Episode Eight is the eighth episode in Season Three of a novella series in a Dystopian Romance about Zombies, the end of the world and finding someone to share it with.
This story takes place over multiple episodes, with a release date every two weeks. Approximately 20,000 words.
Rachel Higginson is the best-selling author of The Five Stages of Falling in Love, Every Wrong Reason, Bet on Us and The Star-Crossed Series.
She was born and raised in Nebraska, and spent her college years traveling the world. She fell in love with Eastern Europe, Paris, Indian Food and the beautiful beaches of Sri Lanka, but came back home to marry her high school sweetheart. Now she spends her days writing stories and raising five amazing kids.
This is an interesting series. It has humour so things don't get too heavy but at the same time they do loose people and there is violence and killing.
The series is a long one and these main characters stories continue for 3 seasons. There is also a spin off series that deals with the sister later.
There is little intimacy. There is touching, hugging and a few kisses but no sex until much later in the last season. The main 2 characters have love interests but due to the nature of the start of the virus and the constant threat there are no intimate scenes until the end of season 3.
Each season ends on a HFN with an enemy thread running through the whole series. Each episode either ends as HFN with a goal set for the next or at times an immediate threat will run across several episodes. At the time I read these the whole series was on Amazon KU so it was possible to read one after the other or complete in a box set. If you start reading and want to get to a HEA you will need to read the entire 3 seasons. There is the immediate zombie threat which is constant but also the series deals with humanities reaction to survival. Often a bigger threat is the desire for power between the surviving groups and these at times use lack of resources and scientific experimentation to control the main threats. Later in the series there is a love triangle situation of sorts for the heroine. It's not exactly a love triangle but there is a dividing force between the main couple due to the interest from another man. There are no intimate details but there is a kissing scene with the other man, but at the time the main couple are not together. The characters are all very different, they have their flaws but they are college age so when they make mistakes and sometimes they are stupid ones I put it down to youth and although they have learnt survival through experience the threat is constant so it's not easy for them to be sensible all the time. There is a good bit of banter between the group and a great deal of humour. There are some serious issues dealt with too and the main human enemy threat is pretty evil.

I waited for my entire body to lock up right before it crumbled to ash in the jail cell. I felt unstable with fear and anxiety. My senses exploded with too much sensation and I questioned everything I heard or saw or felt. I knew Matthias was here, but I wanted him dead so fiercely I felt dizzy from it. That was how afraid I was of my father. **
Annnnnd we're back with Tyler as she struggles with her feelings for Vaughn and her hatred for her father. The group is devising a plan that will hopefully end Matthias once and for all, but Tyler is a huge ball of mess as she tries to get some sort of grip on reality and her past. The question is...will she be able to before it is too late? Or will her father prove once again that he is always in control of her and everything else in the world?
Way back when, when we first met Tyler, I wasn't sure if she would be someone that I would care for in the long run. She closed herself off to the Parkers at first and made it hard for me to determine if she could be a character I would root for if the moment came. Well the moment has come and I can definitely say I want her to win...to live! I want her to admit her feelings for Vaughn. I want her to triumph over the evil otherwise known as her father. I love this girl and consider her part of the family when I think fondly of the Parkers.
Another great episode, Higginson! You can actually feel this season coming to a close as we read the stories, literally watching the pieces all come together for some much needed closure. With so much anticipation and uncertainty flowing through the pages, you can't help but find yourself on the edge of your seat...reading and waiting for the outcome. 5 Will Never Get Enough of This Series Stars!
I'm starting to sound like a broken record because every time I read an episode of Love and Decay, I have nothing else to say other than it being really freakin' awesome. And this episode is even more so! I love reading from Tyler's POV. It's so different from Reagan and it's refreshing. Reagan is all kickass and "I'm gonna kill zombies 'cause I'm cool like that" and Tyler is all vulnerability and "I'm going to have to be strong and not let my fears stop me from living." Tyler had really grown on me. I love seeing her grow and becoming the strong, determined girl she had become. I do hope we get more episodes told in her POV because Vaughan is just... swoon. Why oh why does all the Parkers have to be so dreamy? (It's hard to choose who I love more!) Matthias Allen though. Damn, I hate that guy. Haven't he done enough damage already? That guy really needs to find a new hobby other than being a sadistic, power hungry and heartless man.
I cannot wait to read the next episode. I'm dying to know what happens next!
Love and Decay 3, Episode 8 continues the saga of the Parker brothers and their lady loves in a zombie infested post-apocalyptic world. As is occasionally done, Rachel Higginson told this episode through the POV of Tyler Allen. I thought that switching the POV from Reagan to Tyler for this episode made sense, since the gang was brought back into Matthias Allen's clutches, and he is Tyler's dear ol' dad after all. At the same time, I just couldn't seem to form any sort of emotional attachment in this episode. I was way more concerned with what was happening to Hendrix and Reagan than Vaughan and Tyler. I just can't help it! As far as the othet aspects of the episode, it was more of the same... Gun fights with evil dictators, zombie attacks, near death experiences, and imprisonment by the aforementioned evil dictators. I'm ready for something 'outside the box', but I still love me some Parkers!
I am loving the suspense! I loved having Tyler's POV for this episode, but can't wait to get back to Regan. Tyler has always been a mystery. She is closed off, uncertain, and maybe a little harsh on first impression, but in this episode we get to see into her heart, and boy is she amazing! Tyler is unique because she has been through so much, but she hasn't let it break her. She is still strong, sassy, and a good sister and friend. In this episode we watch her reluctantly let Vaughn into her heart and life, and it is fantastic!
Loved this episode and the suspense that follows. All I have to say is Mathiass is going down, and hopefully sooner than later. I am ready to see that sucker pay!
I spent the whole book waiting for one of the brothers to die...I just felt like Rachel is ready to do that to us. We only have a few more episodes left and I really am sure she is going to get kill happy on us. I'm freaking... No really this was the best Tyler POV one ever! Bless her cotton socks: she has it in her head that any man that loves her will die and we all know how that one tall, dark, and handsome Parker brother feels about her. Episode 8 kinda got me right in the ticker. Happy reading!
Rachel is my favorite and I truly believe she is exceptional!!! She has managed to get me hooked on zombies & the end of the world.
I love that this episode is from Tyler's point of view. For me Tyler has always been the dark horse and I loved seeing things from inside her head again. I feel that this episode deepened her character influence and allowed the reader to connect better with her. It is intense and nail-biting, yet I loved every word of it!
I wish I could give this episode more than 5 stars. I absolutely LOVE Vaughan and Tyler so much! This season has been great but this episode in particular is amazing. We get into the mind of Tyler. All along she has been stand offish and aloof. We know why but now we get to feel her fear and understand why. The progression with Miller is amazing. I feel for the kid and hope to read more of how he grows. Can't wait for the next one. They have to get Matthias soon!!!!
They go together like bread and butter, peas and carrots, like brownies and milk. Ok, maybe not. But two killing machines. One does it for instincts and the other for power. Can Clan Parker beat them both, at the same time?? You'll just have to read it to find out.
Of course, things didn't go nearly as well as I hoped they would. This is Love & Decay after all!! I enjoyed Tyler's POV. I really appreciated her character development here and the strength she made herself build. And she and Vaughan are everything
Another gripping entry in the saga of the extended Parker family. Finally Tyler finds her inner strength and love. Captured again? Of course. Can't wait for the eighth episode.
Tyler has a good amount to contribute to this episode in the way of feelings. There is a great bit of suspense, and an overall great episode. cannot wait to get the next installment!
