This part is about Erin and Weston's last months in high school. They soon will be going to different colleges and starting a new life.
You would think that after all Erin went through, people would finally give her a break, but unfortunately no. The bullying is still there, though she has strong support from her parents and Wes now.
You would also think that their relationship should be strong after fighting for being together so much, but no either. Weston is insecure and scared that Erin doesn't need him as much as he needs her, he freaks out and you can "feel" his fear of them not working out. Because of those insecurities, he pushes Erin away. They stay apart but he comes to his senses and comes around. I actually think they needed that time apart for Erin to stay strong in college on her own and for Wes to get some confidence and believe in their relationship.
It was an OK conclusion to this series. I missed epilogue though. Don't get me wrong, cause it was a good reading, just not for me, I think... I guess I'm too old for that. It is meant for rather young readers, bit too YA for me. I don't always need smut, but I need some kind of tension and anticipation.... I didn't get it here. Anyway, nothing impressive but ok if you like simple YA stories.
”lt was just us, in our space, just the way our story began.”
Jamie McGuire did a great job wrapping this short story series up with an believably sweet ending for Weston and Erin. Erin has been through so much finding out that there was a mix up at the hospital that left her living her life with a mother that didn’t love her in a beaten down trailer. The boy of her dreams dating the school’s other Erin who was her bully/tormentor and living the life that we find out was supposed to hers all along.
I really enjoyed this last installment as Weston panics with the idea that they will be splitting after prom, graduation and the summer. He is frantic to hold onto Erin and has so much fear. Even though this story is told from only Erin’s pov Weston’s feelings were very well expressed.
”I know we’re high school kids, and it’s crazy to feel this way, but college is four years of my future. The rest is all you.”

Bullies and haters try to ruin this couple’s last few months together, while insecurities drive them apart as college moving in day approaches. I thought the ending was sweet and not over the top or too far in the future but just right for this series.
#Adoro
So disappointed with this!!!! hardly anything happens. It really is just two teenagers on again, off again for really pointless reasons. I found Wes to be a needy, windy jerk in this book. what a shame as I loved the first book. I am very annoyed as I Usually love this authors work. This pointless trilogy could have been told as a one off novella. It was very dragged out an expensive to buy all three parts. What a shame.
A really nice conclusion to a lovely story.... A transition from childhood to adulthood and everything in between.... Every struggle, fear, hope and dream a 18 year old has after finishes school.... Excitement for what future hold and at the same time fear for what you may leave behind.... I love Erin and Weston....
This entire series has been a roller coaster of emotions, so it's no surprise that the finale is by far the most moving of all three. Jamie has once again managed to shine, but this one will really take a toll on you.
After witnessing most of Erin's tormenting at the hands of peers (and adults), all you can hope is for her to get some peace. With this being her final year, all I wanted was for some of these people to widen up, treat her as a human instead of the trash they saw her as. Sadly, this wasn't the case for most. Mixed in with the bullying, belittling, and constant condescension towards her was her somewhat faltering relationship with Weston. Neither wanted to be apart, but they also wanted to fulfill their own dreams. Yes, they are young, but sometimes that just doesn't matter. If it's meant to be, it's meant to be. But the letting go is always hard, even if it's temporary. Jamie does a stellar job portraying the guilt and second guessing of a teen in love. Erin needed to leave in order to succeed, and leaving behind those who dragged her down was the top priority. As it should have been. Is that selfish? I don't think so. After a lifetime of being told you're worthless and not good enough, I'm sure it starts to creep in to your head that maybe they're right. It doesn't matter how strong you are, words hurt.
The journey of Erin Easter-Alderman has been brilliant, and I'm thankful Jamie decided to tell this story. Maybe some eyes will open, and the things people believe are important - those material things - will be seen for what they are. THINGS. Happenstance is a story of overcoming the hand you were dealt, overcoming the obstacles placed in your way to keep you down, and discovering who you are and loving yourself.
I can't help but be thankful that this has never been my life. Having said that, Erin is stronger for how she grew up. The things she was subjected to her entire life made her who she is. And, in my opinion, she's a damn amazing young woman. If she were a real person, I'd tell her to shine on, and let the haters hate on her now.
Plot: 1 Star Character: 1 Star Writing: 3 Stars Romance: 0.5 Star Ending: 1.5 Star
Overall: 1.4 Disappointing Star
I am completely disappointed with the overall outcome of this final book from the Happenstance Novella Series.
I was very hopeful with the series, but author, Jamie McGuire, happens to have given up that hope and just wanted to rapidly finish the book to get it over with. Did this satisfy her readers? More like it satisfied herself. This book, to say the least, was done extremely poorly. I cannot believe I have invested so much time for this series, only to end up reading garbage.
For starters, the plot was not intriguing at all compared to her previous instalments. I expected a much better and twisted plot than what was delivered in this book because it felt like I was reading trash. There was no excitement and everything about it was so predictably unrealistic.
As well, McGuire completely ruined the image of her characters! I especially despised her protagonists! She changed them both so much! Erin for the first two books was viewed as a strong, brave, smart character who did not need someone to help her in order to live the life she wanted. But in this one, Erin's character and personality completely flipped! She was vulnerable, needy, weak and annoying! She cried and whined about everything! Reading from her perspective was so frustrating! I wanted to yell and shake her and be like "Bitch what happened to you? What happened to that girl who held back her tears and kept her walls up? What happened to the one who can take care of herself without involving the help from others? Who can fight her own battles?"
Oh and the way Weston was written was just unbelievably upsetting! He was a pain in the ass! He would not stop whining to Erin, like can you give the poor girl a break of what she has been through just in 3 damn months. He was weak and totally obsessive over Erin (I find in most of McGuire's books that she tends to make her male characters an obsessive possessive psycho!). It's scary and not attractive at all. His character went from charming cutie to that! I don't even know what else to say for the rest of the characters in the book. Some were so dramatized and unrealistic. Especially how quickly Erin and her parents - in just 3 months - warmed up and bonded to each other. Like really that is such a short period of time, it's surreal.
The on and off relationship with Erin and Weston was just a waste of my time. I wanted to fall asleep to how boring and cheesy it was.
*Sigh* I really expected a better finish from McGuire. This just lowers all my expectations for books I want to read written by her. :/
One of the things I hate about books and especially series is that often they finish too quickly and you find yourself wanting more and feeling a bit sad that they are over. Over the last two days , I read the entire Happenstance Novella Series and I have to say I loved it. Each book actually got better and better. In the third book, we see the further development of Erin Easter-Alderman's relationship with Weston Gates , but still niggling her in the back of the mind is that he was with the former Erin Alderman. I loved though how she felt right at home with Julianne and Sam, but had hoped that we might have seen a little more of Gina Easter and read her side of the story - maybe Jamie McGuire - you could do a Gina spin-off ? I did find though which annoyed me a bit alot of back and forth with Weston and Erin and found Weston to be honest quite needy in this book - it was like grow some balls and urgh I wanted to strangle Brady Beck as really what a wanker and a bully, Hope he gets what's coming to him in college at OSU. In conclusion though, I did find this series to be quite enjoyable and it did show readers what your life can be like when everything you know has been upturned and how hard it can be to fit into the life and when you finally do try and fit in, how the people in your old life react to you as we see with Erin's relationship to Frankie. If you are a fan of the TV series "Finding Carter" and "Switched at Birth", then you will enjoy the Happenstance Novella Trilogy by Jamie McGuire
I have thoroughly enjoyed this novella series. So many emotions have been felt and the characters especially Erin have been through so much. There have been ups and downs, twists and turns, and through it all I was held captive. I am sad that it is over. I really enjoyed Weston and Erin but I am happy with the way it ended. Perfect ending! I hope we get more of them in the future. Great reads for all ages.
Once again I think this series should have stopped with the first book. I did like how Erin settling in to a relationship with Sam and Julianne, but Weston was a whiny girl in this one. I didn't get why he couldn't take what Erin said at face value. By now he should have known her enough to trust what she was saying.
This is the first book by Jaime McGuire that I highly dislike. I'm so surprised in my disappointment of this book because I loved 1 and 2. But this one? Weston was just getting on all my nerves with his whining. I was more than halfway into the book and he still had the same attitude and then boom, stuff happens. Just not feeling it. Ugh.
What the heck happened to Weston? I'm glad he got his act together in the end, but I was worried this wasn't going to end the way I thought it was. Sill, this a solid final entry into the series with a great mix of teenage angst and growing up.
