Most teenagers don’t have a voice talking in their heads, but that’s pretty normal for Kas. It’s been there her whole life, giving her directions, keeping her from harm. When the voice advises against the family picnic in the mountains, she’s sure there’s a reason, but convincing her mom is another matter.

While in the mountains, Kas accidentally stumbles on a gateway to another dimension. Almost immediately, her life is in peril. From a disembodied man known only as Milord and a hoard of hooded men who want her soul, she doesn’t know who to trust in this strange place where dreams become reality.

As Kas learns more about who she is and how she came to the Waymeet of Worlds, it becomes clear that someone is lying to her. But is it the voice she’s known her whole life or the new friends she finds in Milord’s castle. Choosing the wrong people to trust could cost her soul and prevent her from fulfilling her destiny.

Karlie Lucas is a dreamer, reader, and helpless romantic with a soft spot for female lead characters.

The third of eight children, Karlie often felt "lost" in the mix and promised herself that things would not stay that way, for herself or her characters.

"Each of my characters tend to 'feel lost' in one way or another. The real struggle, for them, is overcoming that and realizing they are of worth. I write to give everyone the opportunity to remember that."

With a bachelor's degree in Creative Writing, and a few memberships in various writing societies, Karlie is making her mark in literature.

If you haven't checked out her books, I strongly suggest you do so.

Kas has heard the voice in her head her whole life. While the rest of her family has learned to accept that Kas is a little different, she often finds herself wondering why she doesn't seem to fit in with any of them.

When the voice tells her a trip to the mountains is too dangerous, she defies it and goes anyway. And, that trip changes her whole life. She falls, hits her head and wakes up in the Waymeet of Worlds, a place between our world and another, where she learns that she is different for a reason. With the help of Milord and a host of characters, Kas begins to explore a life of chivalry and rules that is so different from her own.

When she comes to and returns to the "real" world, Kas knows that there is something bigger going on. As her family worries for her safety and sanity, Kas makes the decision to face her destiny head on, and that will change the balance of power in not just her world, but another place, as well.

Karlie Lucas creates a world within a world in Kas. While it took me awhile to get into the story, once I did, I was hooked. Kas is a character full of passion, but still young, confused and unsure what the future holds. My favorite part of this book was definitely the things that happen within in the Waymeet of Worlds, including Kas's interactions with Milord, a character that is easily the most complex of the entire story.

Kas is book one of a series, and I am excited to see what is next.

When I first started writing Kas, I was still in junior high and didn't have a lot of writing experience. It was originally meant to be a sort of Beauty and the Beast tale. But as time went on, and I learned more about my chosen craft, I couldn't help but feel dissatisfied by how the story progressed. So, in an attempt to create something more, I tore the story about from all possible angles and began to rebuild it from the ground up. Kas' character stayed relatively intact. Several other characters' roles changed, with some being added.
Every couple of months, I'd go into an editing frenzy, convinced the story wasn't complete. Finally, I decided to piece back together the patchwork my manuscript had become. Surprisingly, I found it was quite good and though, hey, why not? Let's share it with the world. So, as you read and review it, I hope you will enjoy what I have written.

I received Kas as a Goodreads Giveaway. Thank you very much for that Karlie Lucas. I was really excited to read and review this book. Kas is a college age girl who always felt she was different from everyone else. Sometimes the voice in her head would warn her of danger and she typically listened. One day she didn’t and that day things changed forever.

I thought this book started off very slow. I actually put it down for a bit and was not sure when I would go back to it. I felt like Kas was very scatterbrained in the first few chapters and made me not like her character as much. When I picked the book back up I was instantly hooked! I love the rabbit hole/Beauty and the Beast feeling. The way Karlie Lucas described every single location. I could imagine every detail. Sometimes the descriptions were too lengthy for my liking, but that is just me. I have read many books lately that end abruptly; I find it rather disappointing. This book had a steady decline and ended in a wonderful way. It was such a nice change from what I have been reading lately.

Overall I was very pleased with this book. It was imaginative and different from anything I have read. Each of the characters brought something into the story line, but not enough to confuse whose story it was in the first place. Thank you again for sending this to me. I look forward to reading more from you!

Kas starts out a little slow at first, but picks rather well early on. This book does have a little bit of the down the rabbit hole feel to it, but for me so do many other really good stories. I do very much agree that this story is aimed towards a younger age group than myself. That being said I let my 3 daughters read it. They all LOVED it! (Sons said no thanks, we prefer dead things LOL) Youngest said she really enjoyed that the "Girl" Kas was not a whiny, wimpy leading girl. Daughter hates whiny wimpy girls that need rescued. Middle Daughter (Piper) loved the Milord etc after entering the new world. Loved the suspense. My oldest daughter had a little more to say about it. " I really like how Kas is a typical teenage girl. always second guessing, always wondering if were doing the right thing. 2nd guessing ourselves and who we should listen to. I WILL be suggesting this book to my friends."

I was hooked from the first sentence. Karlie has a writing style that I very much enjoy. the characters were easily repeatable. they felt alive.

It does feel a bit like beauty and the beast in some respects. and Alice in wonderland closer to the beginning.

over all, it is definitely one I would read over and over again. I can't wait for the sequel.

I received this book free through Goodreads First Reads.

This book was interesting. I found that it started slow in the beginning, but picked up about halfway through the book. The book reminded me a little of Alice in Wonderland. I really liked this book, and cannot wait to read the next on in the series.

I won this book here on goodreads. What a surprising delight! It had all of the elements I find appealing in a novel. Fantasy, intrigue, mystery, drama and romance! There was very little predictability in this novel. Many twists and turns and surprises. On the edge of my seat. Looking forward to more!

I can't. I'm sorry, I just can't go on. I hate being unable to finish a book, especially a short one. I tried really hard. I just couldn't find that second wind.

This book is in dire need of some editing. Grammar and sentence structures were all over the place, and I oftentimes found it difficult to understand what the author was saying. The writing is very dry. Not in humor, but in general. It felt clumsy. In some places the narration (and dialogue, for that matter) was protracted too much while in others it was condensed even more so. Descriptions turned into lists, or Lucas would end them with "or something like that". Kas annoyed me. I couldn't get behind her. And Lucas put in a lot of references. Normally I'd be fine with that. Hey, I use them myself. But Lucas made sure you knew she was making a reference. She'd tell you both before AND after the quote that she was referencing this or that. It felt pretentious.

Again, I'm really sorry I couldn't finish this book. I couldn't even skim it. The premise was intriguing, but that's where my interest stopped. I hope someone else reads your book and loves it. That person just won't be me.
