Jack lives his life on social media, cosplaying as the cryptid local legend. Sure, he is an actual monster, but that detail doesn’t really matter when he’s focused on trending posts. All is going well in Jack’s life until a group of hunters show up, intent on taking the famed monster’s head as a trophy.
Dimitri has been trapped by hunters for years, forced to use his abilities so their organization can track down other cryptids. When he encounters Jack, he learns that not all monsters are made the same way. Jack easily removes the threat at his doorstep, and Dimitri gains a chance at freedom.
Jack introduces Dimitri to the world and the many wonders he’s missed out on during his captivity. Dimitri follows Jack’s lead as he explores this new era. But the hunter’s organization doesn’t take their loss lightly, and they set out to reclaim Dimitri and behead Jack. These monsters will have to trust their hearts and each other if they want to put an end to this threat.
Hollow is a full-length MM dark (ish) monster romance as part of the Mayhem Manuscripts Cryptids shared world collaboration.
MN Bennet is a high school teacher, writer, and reader. He lives in the Midwest, still adjusting to the cold after being born and raised in the South.
He enjoys writing paranormal and fantasy stories with huge worlds (sometimes too big), loveable romances (with so much angst and banter), and Happily Ever Afters (once he’s dragged his characters through some emotional turmoil).
When he’s not balancing classes, writing, or reading, he can be found binge watching anime or replaying Baldur's Gate 3 for the millionth time.
I loved this story so much! I'm a sucker for Halloween and cryptids so put them together and I'm a goner. Jack and Dimitri are so cute together and Astaroth, Jack's demon dog, absolutely steals the show. Despite some darker themes and trauma, this is mostly a lighthearted story between a couple of goofballs. I fell in love with them and I know you will too!
Prepare to be completely and utterly obsessed because MN Bennet just delivered one of the most deliciously unhinged, sweet, and spicy monster romance of the Season! Hollow is an absolute, top-tier masterpiece that had me laughing out loud one second, kicking my feet in pure joy the next, cheering at the bloody gore, and then swooning over these two precious monsters! If you live for a sunny, extroverted pumpkin monster posting thirst traps on social media, a traumatized grumpy deer daddy who deserved the whole world, and a demon dog sidekick, drop everything and read this immediately when it releases!
The story follows Jack, a cocky, extroverted nuckelavee (our horseless headless man legend!) Who is living his absolute best life in sleepy hollow by playing into his own cryptid local legend on social media, posting thirst traps, gaining online followers, and hitting the town for his social fix! Everything is fun and games until a group of hunters shows up, and Jack rescues Dimitri, a leshy who has been enslaved, tortured, and forced to track other cryptids by an evil hunter family for fifty whole years. Jack instantly falls head over heels for dimitri and takes him under his wing to show him all the wonders of the modern world, while sweet, introverted dimitri learns to relax, heal from his PTSD, and open his heart again. But when the hunters come back for revenge, these two powerful monsters have to protect their home and each other at all costs!
I am hopelessly in love with Jack! The social media aspect in this book was executed so hilariously well, he was captivating the internet (and me) Left and right. But beneath all that cocky confidence, the way he worshipped Dimitri and wanted to give him the absolute world had me swooning hard! Oh, my heart physically ached for dimitri! He has been through absolute hell, and watching him slowly relax, build a safe life in the forest with Jack, and navigate going out into town was so unbelievably tender. Their dynamic is the ultimate sunshine/grumpy opposites-attract perfection! Stop everything because Astaroth had main character energy!! A demon inhabiting the body of a bloodhound who demands belly rubs with a side of soul torture? Absolute comedic genius! The banter and chemistry between Jack and Dimitri were off the charts!! They had me giggling, screaming, and swooning the entire time!
The blend of sweet, cozy healing with dark, gory justice against horrible people was handled so brilliantly. The spice was hot, the comedy was unmatched, and this is a book I am 100% buying in hardback just to display like a trophy on my shelves forever! I implore you to read this spooky scary and fluffy perfection of a read when it comes out on October 7th!

This was a fun read with some dark moments in the beginning. I loved the way Jack was nervous around Dimitri when they met. They were so cute together. I liked how fun Jack described the modern stuff to Dimitri. Dimitri is just an easy going guy who just ends up doing everything Jack wants even though he doesn’t understand why they have to do it.
I think this was the first time I read about a character who happens to be an influencer. In this case, it worked pretty well but I discover I don’t really like it. I still loved these two tho. Astaroth is the life of the party! 😂 he is so fun and just literal. For him, everything leads to the end of humanity and I loved every second of it.
Again, it was a fun read by a new to me author and I will check other books by MN Bennet.
I knew that I would love this book as soon as I picked it up. M.N. Bennet is a master at developing characters who feel real and who you can’t help but build a relationship with straight away. The characters in this book are no different, and the story being told is TOP NOTCH!
Jack is an extrovert, which as a cryptid sometimes does not work out for the best. But in the age of social media, he has found his niche and is making the most of his life as the online personality Jack Woah Lantern. He has built up quite the following posting thirst traps and uses that disguise to be able to go into the town of Sleepy Hollow and get his social fix. Jack comes across as a very self-confident person with his near god-like powers to protect himself. He fears nothing physical, easily dealing with hunter incursions in his forest, until Dimitri shows up. Jack loses his heart to Dimitri and does everything he can to ensure he is safe and protected.
Dimitri is a Leshy and has been enslaved and tortured by the Hearst family for 50 years. He has been forced to track down and capture, or kill, other cryptids. He is dealing with a lot of PTSD after being rescued by Jack, and has been waiting for the Hearst family to come and recapture him. But as things settle down, he sees how Jack is living his life carefree, and starts to relax, building a relationship and life in the forest surrounding Jack's house. Dimitri is an introvert and struggles when going out to town with Jack, but he’s grown attached to him and loves to see him happy. He has also built up a friendship with Astaroth.
Astaroth is a Demon inhabiting the body of a bloodhound; he is fiercely protective of his two servants. He is a creature of routine and loves his belly rubs with a side of soul torture. Astaroth is the comedic genius of the book, and I couldn’t help but fall in love with him from the first words he spoke.
The banter and spice between Jack and Dimitri was SO GOOD; they keep you entertained with their antics throughout the whole book! They had me laughing and dancing for joy as they explored ALL aspects of their relationship. The antagonists of this story are so horrible. When the Hearst family patriarch came in and was dealt with, I was hoping that it was all over, but when they reappeared, I was worried about what would happen to Jack and Dimitri. The eldest son is truly evil, and he deserved everything he got at the end. The way in which he overpowered the unstoppable Jack had my heart aching for them both.
Overall, I loved this story, and I will for sure read it again when I purchase it in hardback! - I just have to have it as a trophy for my shelves!
⊹ | 𝙃𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙤𝙬 by MN Bennet is a cute and spicy M/M monster romance. It is a third book in the 𝘔𝘢𝘺𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘔𝘢𝘯𝘶𝘴𝘤𝘳𝘪𝘱𝘵𝘴 𝘚𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘰𝘯 𝘛𝘸𝘰: 𝘊𝘳𝘺𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘥𝘴 series and follows Jack and Dimitri. While this story is mostly sweet, it does have themes that some readers may find sensitive. As always, be sure to check the trigger warnings before reading.
I absolutely loved this book so freaking much. It was funny, cute, and had some emotional undertones that I wasn't expecting but made the story come together beautifully. I seriously can't believe that I'm finished already. I want to go back and experience it all over again. Jack, Dimitri, and Astaroth—can't forget my favorite demon dog—have staked their claim on part of my heart. (Astaroth wanted my soul, but Dimitri talked him down, so a win is a win, I guess.)
The moment we were introduced to Dimitri's character, my heart melted. I was genuinely in the same boat as Jack. 😂 Throughout the story, watching Dimitri heal and grow into his personality after having been locked away for decades was honestly so beautiful. In turn, I loved how Jack slowly found the courage to take off his pumpkin around Dimitri. I'm so happy that he found someone who loved him unconditionally despite his flaws. I want a Dimitri. Everyone deserves a Dimitri.
Okay, as someone who doesn't mind a little gore, I find that I'm always so intrigued by how intense or crazy things can get, especially in monster romance. I mean, I'm the type of person to sit around eating spaghetti while watching The Walking Dead. That said, I very much enjoyed Jack, Dimitri, and Astaroth's moments of death and destruction. They were all valid, and everyone got what was coming to them. Let me say, for the record, Astaroth might have been a dog, but he sure knew how to get shit done! 😭
Overall, I would definitely recommend this book. I can't wait for everyone to read about all the different shenanigans that Deer Daddy and Jack Whoa Lantern get into. Additionally, I'm super excited to read some of the other stories in this series. If you're looking for a cute little monster romance with a splash of trauma and violence, then this is the book for you.
Hollow is part of the Mayhem Manuscripts season two: cryptids series
I loved this book! We have Jack who is our horseless headman; who comes across Dimitri after rescuing him from some not so nice people who were holding him captive in order to use him to snuff out other monsters.
“ You’re not hideous. “ “ you are beautiful. Absolutely breathtaking in the best way imaginable.”
The banter between Dimitri and Jack was top notch. With Jack having to sorta explain life to Dimitri, in such a way that will be hilarious! The thing that was special weee their moments of sweetness with the two; because you get this feeling of warmth; and how much Jack feels for Dimitri. And the spice , it was spicy!
“ Take the lead my love.”
The talk of social media in this book is hysterical because, I feel like some of what went on with it in this book was done so well.
The relationship with these two, I ate it up like I mean couldn’t get enough because Jack, he just wanted to give Dimitri everything, show him everything, in a way give Dimitri the life he deserves! And it was so sweet! I never expected myself to tear up at a monster book but this had some great moments! The comedy in this book, was something, it had me laughing so hard at times.
“ I would do anything to protect you, to make you happy. I love you Dimitri.”😍🥹
I loved this book! Like, it was such a sweet read! I had tears in my eyes. Both from laughing and crying! That’s how good this was, it had it all!
If you’re looking for a book this fall that has all the makings of a classic monster book, but is also sweet and funny and the characters are so well written! And the banter is top notch.. this is the book!
Jack is a monster that fully embraces the legend that surrounds him by cosplaying as himself. He regularly posts thirst traps on social media as Jack Whoa Lantern. Dimitri is a captive of a rich family who hunts down cryptids and is forced to use his Leshy tracking skills to help them capture other monsters. That is until Dimitri is forced to track Jack. Jack easily slays all the hunters and sets Dimitri free. The threat of retaliation and the hunters coming back for them both is present. Dimitri has been disconnected from nature and has been held captive for so long he needs time to acclimate to this world he hasn’t had access to in many years.
I absolutely loved these to. After reading the dedication I knew I was going to love this book🥵. If I had to pick a favorite character it would have to be Dimitri aka Deer Daddy. I really enjoyed watching their wholesome relationship grow and reading the unhinged spice between these two monster’s. It was adorable to see the way these two characters balanced each other out. The patience Jack has for Dimitri, and the acceptance Dimitri has for Jack is so special. The love they had grew into something so deep. The way Jack wants to protect Dimitri is precious. The casual slaughtering lol. Astaroth was the most PERFECT side character that was genuinely hilarious.
I really enjoyed reading this book thank you so much for the ARC 🥹🫶!!!
My first book by MN Bennet and let me tell you I was not disappointed! I am obsessed.
The cover alone drew me before I even read the blurb or tropes!
The chemistry between Jack and Dimitri was instant. The banter and spice between them was perfect. Jack is the extroverted horseless headman nuckelvee who is also a content creator and cosplays himself, rescues Dimitri, the introverted Leshy (or deer daddy), from his captors. These two together were everything. I enjoyed how Jack took the time to explain everything to Dimitri after all his years being held captive and a monster tracker for some rich family who deserved what they got.
However, it was Astaroth that stole the show for me.
"I am no puppy," Astaroth bellowed in a commanding telepathic echo. "I am an arch demon of hell, grand and great with legions of warriors ready to lay siege upon the lands at my behest. Now, kneel before me, mortal, and give me the belly rubs."
Astaroth is a demon inhabiting a bloodhound who demands W.A.L.K.s (yes, he mastered the art of our pathetic alphabet stew) and belly rubs. He is very protective of his "servants" and won't let anything happen to them because without them he would not get his daily walks and he does not have time to train any one new!
"Now, tell me I am the bestest boy in all the lands, who shall bathe in the blood of my enemies and those goddamn squirrels."
Absolutely obsessed, I loved everything about Hollow!.
I received Hollow as an ARC from the author. Thank you for the opportunity to read your book! Spooky, fun, sexy and a complete vibe overall. We meet Jack (Whoa Lantern) and Dimitri. The Horseless Headsman and Deer Daddy. Two crypids near the small town of Sleepy Hollow who cross paths due to an evil family hell bent on destroying anything they can. But when things don't go as planned for the Hearst family. Jack and Dimitri start their own fun and love perhaps?! This book grabbed my attention immediately. The way the world was laid out and described brings you right into Sleepy Hollow and the woods surrounding it. You can't help but to love Jack. He has a bright spirited personality that pairs with his sex appeal. Then you have the stoic broody and also sexy Dimitri that you just want to protect. Both characters felt well thought out, developed and they also had growth throughout the book. The plot also kept moving a a great pace for me. I didn't find any slower or lacking areas. Each part felt necessary and intentional. The story includes so many aspects that make it addictive too. You get the Halloweenish vibes, mystery, tension, passion and action because yes not only are the boys hot but they protect what they love. Lastly we have Astaroth the dog...the goodest boy or a hell lord determined for world domination...
This was such a cute story. Jack Woah Lantern as the Horseless Headsman filming thirst traps for his online following is definitely a different twist on the Legend of Sleepy Hollow’s Headless Horseman. The demon dog Astaroth had me chuckling the entire time. And Dimitri just stole my dang heart. Dimitri is a Leshy who has been held captive for the last 50 years and escapes in the woods when he encounters Jack, a Nuckelavee. Jack offers him friendship, sanctuary, a place to heal and teaches him about all the ways the world has changed over the last half century. We get to watch as they film thirst traps together, have some super spicy encounters, take Astaroth on his regularly scheduled walks (extra on the weekends) through the woods and give him non-negotiable twenty-minute belly rubs every evening while he tells of his plans of world domination, and fall in love. Of course it’s not all easy going. Dimitri’s past catches up to him, putting Jack in danger and they have to make a choice, roll over and accept defeat or stand and fight for their lives so they can continue building their life together.
Definitely give Hollow a read, the banter is hilarious and worth it.
Looking forward to more books in the Mayhem Manuscripts Season Two: Cryptids series.
I've been waiting for Mayhem Manuscripts 2: Cryptds to come out ever since I heard rumors (I read the first one and loved it, even though it has absolutely nothing to do with this one), so I was thrilled when I saw I could read this book early... and let me tell you, woooooow.
It's been a while since I laughed so much with a book, but unlike other books, the humor doesn't pull you out of the story; it complements it so, so well.
Dimitri has had a very difficult past and is disconnected from the present, but despite everything he's been through, he's protective, kind, and considerate. He allows Jack to be himself (since Jack hides behind the pumpkin on his head), and Jack is his ideal partner—patient, funny, and very protective of him.
Although I love both of these characters...my favorite is Astaroth!! You could say he's my spirit animal 🤣 I laughed so much with him, and he's not just comic relief; he plays an important role in the story's ending.
For all these reasons, I can say I recommend it without hesitation.
I'm eager to read the rest of the books in this series.
I'd like to thank the author for allowing me to read this story early, but my opinions are my own and mine alone.
😩😩 the way these two were so FKIN adorable The banter & the lil tiffs. The way Jack wanted to give EVERYTHING to my sweet baby Dimitri
Book starts out on our Extroverted Nuckelavee mr happy go lucky Sunshine Jack! Living in sleepy hollow playing into his own legend big time! (You will see what his legend is when you read it!) He has a social media presence & is just a cocky monster living his best life making his thirst traps 🤣🫶🏼
Enter some blah blah blah blah (not giving spoilers) ENTER MY BABY Dimitri 🥹😭 my sweet Leshy babes whos grumpy & for absolutely GOOD REASON 😩😭 my heart **
Of course Jack falls head over heels for Dimi & Dimi for him 🥹🫶🏼 the exchanges and tender sweet moments had me almost crying.
Fast forward to me being HELLLLLLLA mad hahaha. Like what you even mean?! MY ANGELS DID NOT NEED THAT. But its ok thank goodness we did panic 🤣🤣
Also Astaroth is just fkin amazing. You will see.
Over all this book is one i IMMEDIATELY added to my I wont shut up about it list. Haha so prepare if you follow me on socials to hear about it.
As soon as I had seen that MN Bennet was writing a monster romance, I knew I had to read this and I was not disappointed.
Did I expect a thirst trapping Jack, absolutely not but I was here for it, it was brilliant. He was such a likeable character and when first meeting Dimitri, adorably nervous. I love how he was just so unapologetically leaning into his Halloween aesthetic 24/7 and brought Dimitri along for the ride. Dimitri was such a sweet character, so out of tune with the world until he met Jack, watching Jack teach him about the modern world was equally funny and sweet to read.
There are definitely darker themes within this and we see that early on however it is nicely balanced with the relationship between the MMCs.
That said, we need to talk about a certain someone who stole the show every time he entered the scene...Astaroth!! That demon dog stole my heart and my laughs, no matter what he said, it was so engaging. I think we all need an Astaroth in our lives now!!
This book was everything that I look for in a creepy monster romance and more, it is one that I am going to be recommending over and over to people.
I absolutely adored this book!! MN Bennet just has a way with words that makes me completely forget I’m reading third person (because it’s not normally my favourite) and I get fully lost and captivated in his stories!
This was such a fun monster mm romance with a *smidge* of violence 👀
I loved Jack, he was such a sweetheart! 🥺 watching his confidence grow about himself throughout the book was so heartwarming and I loved how Dimitri gave him a space of acceptance and love 🤍 I adored Dimitri as well, he had some hardships and past trauma for sure but that didn’t stop him from connecting so deeply with Jack. It was so adorable watching him want to experience new things with Jack and take enjoyment in things Jack enjoyed 🥺
And let’s not forget our trusty sidekick Astaroth 🤣 he was written so brilliantly, he made me laugh out loud quite a bit 🤣
Overall this was a sweet, funny book with just the right amount of angst! It was full with hot AF spice, playful banter, acceptance and lots of love 🤍
3rd person POV MM Monster romance Plot 3.5/5 Spice 2/5 Humor 4/5
While I have such a hard time getting into stories when writing in 3rd person, it was not the case here! Bennet has a way with words!! The world building was amazing but the characters were top notch! I adored the banter between them but also you could feel the protectiveness Jack had for Dimitri and the love he had for Jack!
But honestly the star of this book was the demon dog, Astaroth! I want my own demon dog! He is so snarky and hilarious! He also is insanely dangerous and protective of Dimitri and Jack, although I doubt he would admit it! He is set on world dominance but make sure you give him his walks and belly rubs too!
I can't wait to see what the rest of the books in the collection are going to be like! I am already obsessed! ❤️
This book, and this series, is so much fun already. There are some gruesome aspects, like murder and torture, but only for really bad people that kind of deserve it. Obviously this is a work of fiction, but in case you’re not into that stuff, check out the trigger warnings! The book is also more than the gore! It’s a romance first and foremost. Dimitri and Jack are so sweet and goofy, and their relationship was great from the beginning. They are both powerful beings but we see their tender sides more often. I also really enjoyed the social media aspect of this story. It was creative and funny, and worked well for Jack! Also loved the demon dog, crows, and wolves! This book was great and I am looking forward to the rest of the books within this multi author collab!
THEY WAY I DEVOURED THIS BOOK. First, I am so lucky to have gotten an ARC of this, and put all my other books aside so I could read it(which was the best choice ever).
The way this book gave me everything I wanted and more. It was funny and was so goddamn cute with all their moments and I loved the cryptid lore. We had banter, we had sexy thirst trap moments, we had sassy Astaroth moments(had to name him so I don’t give anything away), we had sweet adorable times, some “oh fuckin hell” moments, and a great ending… it was a fantastically written cryptid rom-com and I loved every single second of it.
I will be buying this and all the rest of the Mayhem Manuscripts season 2 books.
✨ARC review✨ This was such a fun book! The two MMCs, Jack and Dimitri were probably two of the most precious characters MN has ever created and I truly ADORED them. The chemistry between these two was instant and did not take long for them to start falling for each other. And how they defended each other against the bad guys was heartwarming. So much love between them. And ASTAROTH!? He stole the show. Best side character/animal EVER. I just want a little short story of him!
If you like fun monster-monster books, read this! You will not be disappointed! But MN never disappoints, so read it! Please!🫶
Oh my goodness! I cannot get enough of this book and these two! Jack is an extroverted social media star who enjoys " pretending to his fans " he's a cryptid. While Dimitri is an introverted Leshy who has been enslaved for many years. After Jack saves Dimitri, they soon find out they have feelings for each other and enter the most sweetest relationship ive ever seen. Dimitri makes Jack feel seen and has the courage to take off his pumpkin head while around Dimitri, while Jack helps Dimitri feel protected from his captors who are trying to hunt them down. Throw in a Demon dog and a crow too! Their relationship is absolutely beautiful! Easily one of my favourite and fun reads of the year 🥰
You know what, despite the death and murder and the backstory filled with either body horror or angst and grief, this was a very fluffy romance (as the author said it would be).
I loved the setting, loved the characters, loved the dog.
I will say when I saw throat fking on the content warning list and I had assumed Jack was the headless horseman, I thought that was going to be a bit freakier. My bad. Too much time on ao3...
This has me very excited for the rest in this series, and to read more work by M.N. Bennet.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I received a copy of this book from the author/Bookfunnel, and this is my honest review
I loved everything about this book from the prologue to the pacing and especially the characters. Both Jack and Dimitri are lovable monsters. The beginning was super fluffy, it gave a nice cozy vibe. The integration of Jack being a video influencer worked really well. The darker aspect made it what a good cryptid/monster book should be. And the spice wasn't a lot but when it happened it was very enjoyable to read.
This book is another one in a series featuring multiple authors.
I hope the other writers can reach the same level as M.N. Bennet, because the bar has been set high with this story.
As we have come to expect from M.N. Bennet, the dialogue is very good, and the characters feel 'real'. There is great humor in the story, and it keeps you laughing.
💞Thank you to the Author for the opportunity to read and review this ARC💖
An interesting mix of fun light hearted banter and blood and gore. To be fair to both the characters, Jack and Dimitri, despite being "monsters" and living in sleepy hollow, they have the same/similar wantsof humans and readers. They just want to be allowed to live their lives on their own terms.
Astaroth was my scene stealer, every snarky comment and threatening statement, completely useless when belly rubs are on offer
Ya know what’s a fun vocal stim? Nuckelavee. Ya know what else is fun? Jack and Dimitri. Hollow is dark, sexy, sweet, and deliciously gruesome. The perfect addition to your spooky season TBR. Jack and Dimitri give us all slice-of-life snuggles with big ‘ol’ hearts in their eyes about five pages before literally tearing the bad guys’ skin off for one another…all rounded out with a romantic dinner brought to you by a murder of crows. Like…if he wanted to he would, ya know? Jack is as charming as the day is long and he absolutely knows it. Dimitri is a little more stoic and sincere with a side of literal prancing in the woods. They are so so easy to fall pumpkin-head over heels for. And don’t even get me started on Astaroth. The absolute goodest boy hell has to offer. Might we all someday be so lucky as to have a four legged companion that good at feasting on the souls of our enemies.
This book was so much fun to read. It was absolutely hilarious. I love a book that can make me laugh and this one did that from the first chapter to the last. I love tbe Spooky Hollow spin for this book. This was a highly anticipated read and it was as addicting as I had hoped it would be!
This was such a really good book. It was my very first from him. I have heard ao many good things about his writing and had to see for myself. I was so pleasantly surprised Jack and Dimitri's story was utter Halloween perfection. I can't wait to read more..
I read this as an ARC. I loved the modernization of the Headless Horseman as the Horseless Headsman. Jack is witty, cocky and hot and his love interest Dimitri is the sweetest and kind of naive. Overall the book had a good pace and was a fun read.
