“When are you going to ask her out?” James looked over his computer across the desks to see Sayde twirling her hair while in deep thought.“Huh? Who?”“Eve. When are you going to ask her out?” James tilted his head and gave her a look to say, “do not lie to me, I know you too well.”Sayde blushed and sunk down an inch in her chair so that James could only see the top of her head. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. Why would you think I want to ask Eve out?”“I see the way you look for her every time we go to the bookstore. And I know she pays attention when you’re around.”Sayde wasn’t sure if she wanted to confess her feelings, though she knew the thought of getting them out on the table would probably help. Besides, it was James, her best friend that knew her better than anyone. “I’ve asked her out twice, and she said no both times. She’s not interested.”“Hmm. Did she give a reason?” He thought it was odd, because he knew from reliable sources that there were several women and men that were attracted to Sayde. She was pretty, in an intense kind of way, with long wavy blond hair, blue eyes and an athletic body.“She thinks I’m too young. That I’m not ready to settle down. At least that’s what I could decipher from her responses.”“Settle down. Are you ready to settle down?”“I’m not dating anyone James. It’s not feasible.”Sayde is a graduate student at Boston University that has more than friendly feelings for the bookstore employee Eve Allen. Eve however, has reservations about dating someone younger than her own 31 years of age. Eve's past experiences, or one experience in particular has forced her to refuse two dates with the younger woman. Will she be able to refuse a third request?
I have enjoyed reading this series and this story like all the others was enjoyable and informative. It was nice to read about the adult Sayde as well as James. Eve and Sayde made for a nice couple. And the story of the Monarch butterflies was quite interesting.
