Well, this book was an absolutely deliciously indulgent read. Cassandra has nailed it yet again, because I absolutely LOVED this book.
It had everything I could want from a fantasy romance. I laughed, I cried, I fell completely in love with the characters, and by the end, I really didn’t want to say goodbye to them. I was completely invested from beginning to end.
A Demon Lord and a witch? ✔️
A trauma survivor? ✔️
Forced proximity? ✔️
The delicious “he fell first” trope? ✔️
The trauma-survivor aspect was handled with so much care and gave the story real emotional depth. I loved watching trust, vulnerability and healing develop alongside the romance. Their chemistry was incredible, and seeing their relationship grow was one of my favourite parts of the story.
I also loved how Cassandra balanced the darker elements with humour and romance. There’s vulnerability, healing and plenty of emotional moments, but there are also so many scenes that had me grinning like an absolute idiot.
And yes… it is steamy as hell. There were definitely a few moments where I needed to fan myself and pretend I wasn’t blushing.
I loved watching these characters come together, and by the end, they genuinely felt like people I didn’t want to leave behind.
The Demons have officially stolen my heart in exactly the same way the Alphas did.

It had everything I could want from a fantasy romance. I laughed, I cried, I fell completely in love with the characters, and by the end, I really didn’t want to say goodbye to them. I was completely invested from beginning to end.

Lucius & Patrea was worth the wait!
I really enjoyed finally getting Lucius & Patrea’s story in Braving the Darkness. After everything Patrea endured in the underworld, I loved seeing her back in the human realm, living her own life and trying to move forward. She has been through so much, which made watching her slowly let Lucius into her life even better.
Lucius has wanted Patrea since he first saw her but instead of immediately collecting on the one-night contract they made, he decided to give her something neither of them expected- time. With a little help from Lucy, Lucius convinces Patrea to give him three weeks to court her, and him moving into her home is where their relationship really started to get me. Patrea may not want to admit how much she has missed him, but those feelings definitely don’t stay hidden forever.
I loved watching them start slowly and seeing Patrea become comfortable enough to actually want the relationship for herself. And Lucius? That man is obsessed with her. 🔥 Their chemistry was so good, but I also loved that their story wasn’t only about the romance and spice.

I already loved Lucius from the first two books of this series (and the little glimpses we’ve had through the BSP and ABC series but Braving the Darkness has absolutely reinforced that. A demon king who shouldn’t be capable of love, falls first, is ridiculously protective AND is completely drool worthy? Yes please.
Patrea’s story is a much heavier one. After everything she endured at the hands of Lucius’ father while being held captive in the underworld, she carries a huge amount of trauma into this book. I really loved the way her relationship with Lucius developed around that. For someone who is quite literally a demon, the patience and protectiveness he shows her while she learns to trust and feel safe again gives us such a different side of him to what we (and he) thought possible.
Cassandra M has continued to expand this world so well. We’ve gone from shifters into witches, demons and the underworld without losing the characters and connections that made me love her books in the first place... of course there is still plenty of spice as well 🔥

'Patrea was madness and sanity at the same time. My hell and my piece of paradise.'
I loved the first 2 books, and this one was so special to follow those.
Lucius, the demon lord turns somewhat golden retriever in this book, panting after our witch, Patrea. They never crossed paths in hell before until the very end of Beautiful Darkness. But Patrea is a strong, fiesty and powerful FMC who cant help but fall for this thirsty demon.
Overall, a fun and exciting paranormal read with so much depth and detail and beloved Lucy and Adan still making frequent appearances.
Now, Cassandra turned up the heat on this one! 🌶🌶🌶🌶 Lucius and Patrea are almost as bad as Lucy and Adan, but in the best spicy way!

Braving the Darkness is the third installment of Into the Darkness saga. This is book is riveting and will send you on a roller coaster of emotions. The way Cassandra shifted from her world of wolves into witches and demons so flawlessly is something magical. The story of King Lucius and Patrea is something of another world. They go from feelings of loss and unworthiness and finding that genuine love can be found from even the depths of hell. This is a great read and just show the versatility Cassandra M has when creating these wonderful worlds we can dive into.

I really enjoyed finally getting Lucius and Petra’s story. I love this series and in books 1 & 2 we get to meet Lucius and Petra and get some of their background and now in Braving the Darkness we get to see them in the human realm.
Petra is now living in the human world and adjusting to it after spending most of her adult life in the underworld. She’s also trying to recover from all the trauma that she suffered by Lucius father.
Lucius is finally the King of one of the four regions of the underworld. Now, he’s ready to collect on the contract he made with Petra, but he wants more than just one night.
I enjoyed watching Lucius win over Petra little by little. Their relationship development was a pleasure to read. Lucius is not the Demon we met on book 1, he has definitely changed for her and becomes the person Petra needs. The stakes get higher throughout the story and is not just their relationship, but outside sources too.
Overall, this was another amazing story by Cassandra. Perfect for a paranormal Romantasy lovers.
If you’re looking for a new series I definitely recommend starting with book 1.

The love that grows between Lucius and Patrea is beautiful as it blossoms into a bond they cant shake. Patrea has a lot of trauma to overcome and Lucius is an amazing partner to help her through it.

Okayyyyy. Cassandra M, apparently I have a type now, and that type is UNHINGED DEMON MEN. Bc I went into Braving the Darkness already liking Lucius, but I was NOT prepared for how much I was going to love this man by the end. Ummm, first of all, Patrea & Lucius??? YES. Freaking YES. Their relationship feels so different from Lucy & Adan’s, which I rlly loved. Patrea has been through HELL, literally, and carries decades of trauma from what Lucien did to her. So when Lucius comes strolling into her life being his cocky, horny, completely unfiltered demon self, I expected absolute chaos.
And okay, we DO get chaos. “I want to fuck you.” SIR??? We’re THREE chapters in. 😭
But underneath all of Lucius’s filthy comments and demon behavior is this surprisingly patient side of him that I wasn’t expecting. This is literally the Prince of Lust, a demon who is used to taking whatever he wants, and suddenly he’s sleeping beside a woman he desperately wants and forcing himself NOT to touch her until she’s ready. “I’d been a good demon for the whole night, which is not ordinary for me. So I deserve a prize, don’t you think?” I CACKLED.
Then Patrea starts walking around half-naked, and this poor demon is basically fighting for his LIFE. “Stop flashing your ass. I’m a fucking demon, not a saint!” Honestly??? Fair. 😂
But this is also where the book surprised me. Bc the sexual relationship between these two isn’t just there for spice. A huge part of it is Patrea taking back control of her own body after years of abuse. Lucius asks. He waits. He gives her ways to stop him. He lets HER decide what happens next. There are multiple moments where you can see him actively trying to replace the horrible memories she has with ones where SHE'S in control. And that made their relationship hit so much harder for me.
Also, the steam??? HOLY HOTNESS. I thought Lucy & Adan were spicy, but apparently Lucius heard that and said HOLD MY DEMON BEER. “One day I would eat this pussy from morning until evening." HELLO???
Then we get: “This cock will never abuse your mouth, Patrea… Instead, this cock will worship every corner of your mouth if you let me.” Okay. That line is filthy AND weirdly emotional considering Patrea’s history, and that pretty much sums up their entire relationship.
But my absolute favorite part of Lucius is how completely fucking UNHINGED he becomes once he realizes he’s in love with her. This man goes from basically “I want one night with the witch” to: “You’re fucking mine, Patrea!” And then eventually this absolute insanity: “Let me fuck you so I can kill her.” I’M SORRY WHAT??? 😂😂😂 I had to reread that entire scene bc this man was basically like, babe, I need a release before I murder this woman. And somehow that is not even the craziest thing he says in this book.
His jealousy is INSANE. His possessiveness is INSANE. His mouth has absolutely NO filter. But then Cassandra turns around and gives us this completely different side of him when everything goes to absolute HELL, and we see exactly how far Lucius is willing to go for Patrea. No spoilers, but there’s a scene involving Hades that HURT. Like, excuse me??? Where did my ridiculous, horny demon go and WHO is this man breaking my heart??? This is where Lucius completely got me. For all his arrogance and possessiveness, when it actually matters, you realize loving Patrea has changed this man in ways even HE probably didn’t see coming.
Then we get to a moment where Lucius is faced with the possibility of losing Patrea, and this man absolutely BROKE me. EXCUSE ME??? Emotional damage AGAIN. He spends so much of the book acting like this arrogant demon king who doesn’t give AF, but when it actually matters, he’s willing to lose Patrea’s love as long as she gets to LIVE.
And Patrea??? I loved her even more in this book. She isn’t some helpless woman waiting for Lucius to save her. She’s a powerful witch, a mother, a grandmother, and a survivor who has every reason in the world to hate demons. Yet she still chooses to judge Lucius by the man HE is instead of what his father did to her.
Her choosing Lucius despite everything??? Her basically deciding YES, this ridiculous demon is mine??? I ate it UP.
And then Cassandra said, ‘You know what? Demon King isn’t enough.’ I’m NOT saying what happens from there, but the way Lucius sees Patrea as his equal??? YESSSSSS. He doesn’t want her standing behind him. He wants her beside him. He trusts her power, he’s proud AF of her, and I loved seeing how far Patrea comes from the woman we first met.
Then there’s a storyline later in the book involving something Patrea believes she can never have, and I was NOT expecting it to hit me the way it did. I’m being intentionally vague bc I refuse to spoil this one, but Lucius’s reaction??? Again, THIS MAN. There’s a moment where you realize that as badly as Lucius might want certain things for their future, none of it matters to him if it comes at the expense of Patrea. STOP IT. And Cassandra really drags this particular storyline out just enough to make it HURT. By the time we get to the payoff, I WAS DONE. I’m not telling u what happens. Just know that the ending had me sitting there like COME ONNNNN. 😭
And I have to mention the side characters again bc this series has officially made me care about everybody. Lucy & Adan are still Lucy & Adan. Luther is freaking adorable. Althea continues to make me curious AF. Blade is still hovering around being Blade, and knowing where THAT is going??? 👀 I see you, Cassandra.
Also, Lucius interacting with Luther had me cracking up. Adan spends DAYS trying to teach his son to say “dad,” only for Luther’s first word to basically be HADES. 😂 The family dynamics in this series continue to be one of my favorite parts.
Overall, Braving the Darkness gave me exactly what I wanted from Lucius’s story and way more emotional depth than I expected. It’s spicy AF, funny, possessive, violent, romantic, emotional, and completely unhinged in the best way. If u liked Lucius in the previous books, just WAIT. Bc apparently putting the Prince of Lust in love is a TERRIBLE idea for everyone around him and an excellent idea for us.

Also, Lucius interacting with Luther had me cracking up. Adan spends DAYS trying to teach his son to say “dad,” only for Luther’s first word to basically be HADES. 😂 The family dynamics in this series continue to be one of my favorite parts.
Overall, Braving the Darkness gave me exactly what I wanted from Lucius’s story and way more emotional depth than I expected. It’s spicy AF, funny, possessive, violent, romantic, emotional, and completely unhinged in the best way. If u liked Lucius in the previous books, just WAIT. Bc apparently putting the Prince of Lust in love is a TERRIBLE idea for everyone around him and an excellent idea for us.

Lucius, my man. He truly redeemed himself from book one to now. At first, I wasn't sure I could trust him, but he proved himself to be both a devoted brother and a loyal demon. In this book, he showed so much patience, compassion, and growth that he completely won me over. I love that he is soft only for Patrea, that he's so protective of her, and that he learns to love her. Plus, I love the way he is with his nephew. He's not such a bad demon after all.
Patrea is a wonderful character. Her strength is awe-inspiring, and I was so proud of her for confronting and overcoming her demons. She has such a big heart, and that kindness shines throughout the story.
One Night with the Demon King becomes so much more than its title suggests, and I loved every step of the journey. I was completely immersed and finished the book in a single day. I highly recommend that anyone who enjoyed Lucy and Aden's story continue the series and experience Lucius and Patrea's unforgettable romance.

If you read the first two books in this series (which I highly suggest you do) you would have fallen in love with Lucius like i did. I was so happy to learn he was getting his own book and I needed to know more immediately.
Lucius the demon king makes a contract with Patrea for one night and he isn't stopping until he gets it. he thinks he’s just gonna hit it and quit it but the world has other plans for this demon king
Patrea is so strong after what she has endured but she continues go grow throughout the book and i loved it.
Lucius is soft for her and takes his time allowing her to get comfortable with him, but don’t let his softness fool you when other entities try to come between them, he literally goes to war in the underworld for her.
This one has everything, great plot, character banter and the steam was amazing. It also leads perfectly into the next book.

I loved Patrea & Lucius so much. They are an unexpected pairing, witch and demon and it's so perfect.
Patrea spent a long time in Hell (Kalemerus) imprisoned and traumatized by Lucien (Lucius' father) so as you'd expect she's not overly excited when Lucius, the new King of Kalemarus takes an interest in her.
The Prince of Lust falls fast and is obsessed with his favorite witch. The banter between them is amazing and so funny. Their relationship is so different from Lucy and Adan and I loved it. Watching Patrea work through the trauma and find healing with her tormentors son is something else. Loved this story. Can't wait to read about Patrea's granddaughter Althea and Blade in the next installment. Well done.

Braving the Darkness is Book 3 in the Darkness Series, and this one features Lucius and Patrea. Not gonna lie, I tend to stay away from dark romance, but I will read anything and everything Cassandra M writes—and it is always, ALWAYS, worth it.
This book proved two things to me: 1) I definitely have a type lol, and 2) Cassandra M has a talent for making you fall HARD for the bad boys. TRUST ME. By the time you finish this book, you’ll be wondering why you ever thought the MMC was “bad” in the first place. And if you don’t believe me…go read The Substitute Luna/The Dark Fae Luna and then come back and tell me how you feel about morally gray MMCs. I’ll wait.
The relationship between Lucius and Patrea should have been impossible. Lucius is the Demon King of Kalmerus, while Patrea is a witch who despises demons after being trapped in his realm for years against her will by Lucius’ father, Lucien. She carries a lot of trauma from her time in the demon realm, so she understandably doesn’t trust Lucius and is constantly questioning his intentions. But Lucius slowly shows her just how different he is from his father. On the outside, Lucius is this incredibly powerful Demon King, but on the inside? A TOTAL SOFTIE.
He is patient with Patrea, gives her the time and space she needs, allows himself to be vulnerable with her, and—my favorite part—he actually courts her. Watching him earn her trust instead of expecting it was one of my favorite parts of their relationship. Their romance felt like a slow unraveling of all the assumptions they had about each other, and I loved seeing Patrea realize that Lucius wasn’t the monster she expected him to be.
And their chemistry?! SO GOOD. They had so many funny moments, plenty of tension, and obviously some spicy moments. But I especially loved the softer moments between them. There was just something about watching this powerful Demon King completely melt for Patrea that had me smiling like an idiot.
Another thing I absolutely love about this series is the found family vibes. The characters really make these books for me. I love the banter between Adan and Lucius, the brother-sister relationship between Lucius and Lucy, and all of the supporting characters who come together and make this world feel so much bigger than just the central romance.
Cassandra M has a way of creating characters who start out morally questionable and somehow have me completely obsessed with them by the end. I don't know how she does it, but at this point, I've accepted that I'm just going to trust the process.

They come from somehow completely different worlds and don’t always experience or understand things in the same way, but the effort is always there. They listen, they adjust, and they find ways to meet each other halfway. That made their connection feel very natural to me.
I also really enjoyed the more ordinary moments between them. He helps her deal with her trauma and the things that still hold her back, while she gives him the chance to experience a kind of normal life he’s never really known. In a way, they’re both helping the other navigate things that don’t come naturally to them.
The chemistry was there from the start, but I think what worked for me was everything around it—the understanding, the patience, and the fact that they genuinely wanted to make it work despite their differences.
Abd Cass’s writing still has that emotional and sentimental quality I enjoy. And of course, there are a few unexpected turns. I didn’t see some of them coming, but once the pieces were revealed, they fit naturally with everything that had already been built into the story.

This is the story of Lucius, King of Kalmerus, who is enamored with a witch he first met in the underworld named Patrea. Lucius could not stop thinking about Patrea and just wanted one night to appease his hunger for her. He thought that would be enough until he impulsively decided to change their original agreement and suggest they spend three weeks together in hopes of her becoming comfortable with him to move forward with the agreement. However, after spending time with her all bets were off. He no longer wanted one night he wanted forever but how could he convince Patrea to return to a place where she was left traumatized.
This book was so good and I highly recommend it. You can see how much Lucius has evolved from his first appearance in the series until now. I must admit I started out hating him to becoming one of my favorite male leads which speaks volumes on the superb character development of the author, Cassandra M. To be honest, I have yet to read one of her books that I did not love and this one ranks high on my list of favorites.

After reading the first 2 books to the series, I was dying to get my hands on Lucius. There's just something about him that just draws you in and doesn't let go.
Lucian fell for Patrea upon first seeing whether he realized it or not. Upon becoming the Demon King, he makes a contract with her for one night only. He will do anything to bring this to fruition and he's under the impression once he gets it, he can be done with her. Little did he know fate has other plans, even Hades can't stop.
Patrea is a witch who suffered so much but still stands strong and continues to gain strength and courage throughout the book. Lucius was a cinnamon roll just for her and remained patient and understanding as she struggled to overcome her trauma. He goes to literal war in the underworld to keep her safe and protected.
The banter between all the characters was great, the plot keeps you hooked and the spice was hot. Who says an old dog can't learn new tricks because Lucius definitely did!

Patrea is a witch who suffered so much but still stands strong and continues to gain strength and courage throughout the book. Lucius was a cinnamon roll just for her and remained patient and understanding as she struggled to overcome her trauma. He goes to literal war in the underworld to keep her safe and protected.
The banter between all the characters was great, the plot keeps you hooked and the spice was hot. Who says an old dog can't learn new tricks because Lucius definitely did!

Lucius and Patrea... The demon king and the witch. Their story started as a deal but a deal that led to eternity is a very good one.
Lucius had me melting with all those things he was saying to Patrea. Really are there men that find so perfect worlds to talk to their women? Lucius, you're such a sweet demon, and Patrea you're a very lucky witch.
I really laughed at Lucius' quote: Lucius - Fucker 1-0! So to the point 😁
And I was so biting my nails after his one grave mistake which almost cost him the love of his life. But everything turned out great in the end and they managed to have a happy life together in eternity and a ..... 🤫🤭 I won't tell you! Read to find out!

Braving The Darkness: One Night With The Demon King is book three of the Into The Darkness Series.
I loved the story between Patrea and Lucius. Lucius was introduced to us in the previous books in the series and he was a bit of a cocky douche. However, we see a bit of a different side to him in this story. Patrea is still suffering from what she went through during her time in Kalmerus. It takes time and patience for her to finally break down some of her walls. And Lucius gives her that time and patience. That was something I really loved how him. He could've just finished their deal and moved on, but he gave her everything she needed in order to trust him. If you loved the story between Lucy and Adan, you will definitely love this one as well.

I love Lucy and Adan’s story (books 1 and 2), but I have to say I love Lucius and Patrea even more. I always enjoy it when the male lead falls first and then has to try to figure out how to get the female lead to be by his side. Patrea has a complicated past with the underworld, and quite reasonably does not want to spend more time there. However, Lucius sets out to prove he is the one for her and nothing will keep them apart. Cassandra does great job of building the complex underworld along with all of its nuances. I so loved this book, I’ve read it several times now, and Lucius and Patrea will always be one of my favorite couples. I’m hoping for a next generation series with the demon children!

Braving the Darkness absolutely proves to be yet another hit for author Cassandra M!!! It also proves that even a Demon, has a heart and is capable of love and committing himself to one woman! And also that a woman who has been abused and kept a prisoner can learn to trust and love again!! This book is Patrea’s and Lucius’ story. It’s far from an easy journey for both of them especially Patrea! I would love nothing more than to tell you about their journey/story, but then I would totally spoil it for you 🫢🤫!! If you are a huge fan of paranormal romance and Cassandra M I recommend that you read this book and find out for yourself just how awesomely good it is!!! 💞

Such an amazing story by Cassandra M!!! This book right by far is my favorite, Lucius and Petra are my favorite freaking couple. I have been waiting for their story since the end of Lucy and Adan story (Beautiful Darkness) Into the Darkness series is the first series I read by Cassandra M and it is so AMAZING!!!
Braving the Darkness can be read as a Stand alone, but I highly recommend starting with Beneath Her Darkness.
But back again to Braving the Darkness this story follows mainly Lucius the King of Kalmerus and his obsession and desire with the Witch he is craving, Petra. Petra has been through a lot being trapped in the underworld by the former King (Lucius father) for 30 years and abused by him. But now she is free of that world with no interest of going back, but plagued by nightmares and wondering when Lucius will get tired of waiting for her to be ready to fulfill her contract with him, "One Night with the Demon King". Well Lucius comes and changes their deal a bit and offers to be allowed to stay with her for 3 weeks in the human world and take things slow until Petra is ready and comfortable. And of course how can Petra refuse that? Now you have to read yourself and enjoy their spicy, very spicy shared moments, especially in the library. Book also touches on other characters that we met in previous books and if you are like me you need their story like yesterday!!! Talking about Blade and Althea can't wait for their story, but until then Lucius and Petra is a great start!!! Again Highly recommend this book and the series. Cassandra M is a great story teller and world builder.

Lucius and Patrea's story was well worth the wait. I fell deeper in love with the Demon King and his Demon Queen. Definitely a beautiful ending for two well deserving people. Lucius is everything that Patrea needs and more. Amazing happily ever after. Lots of spice, love, and action. Another wonderfully written masterpiece, well done Cass. 👏🏽
