Come for the small-town charm. Stay for Millie and the spice. 🌶️

A single dad, a small town, a city girl, and a little girl who completely stole my heart. Add seven spicy scenes, and you’ve got Mash Notes. 🔥
Mash Notes was a fun, sweet, and spicy addition to the Torque & Tenderness series. While it didn’t quite hit every trope I was expecting, it absolutely delivered on the single-dad, small-town romance vibes.
One of the things I appreciated most about Josie was her integrity. She was willing to stand by what she believed was right, even when doing so came at a cost. That quality made her an easy character to root for and gave her journey into small-town life more meaning than simply being a city girl who needed a change of scenery.
I also really connected with the struggles both Josie and Wyatt face when it comes to building their careers and businesses and trying to make their dreams work. That fear of failure, the pressure to prove yourself, and wondering whether you’re actually succeeding or just spinning your wheels felt very relatable to me.
And then there’s Millie. 💕 Honestly, this kid was a scene-stealer for me. She brought so much personality and charm to the story that she quickly became one of my favorite parts of the book.
The romance itself worked well for me, especially the he-falls-first element. There was good chemistry between the main characters, and this book definitely brought the heat. Of the four books in the series, this one had the most spice for me, with seven spicy scenes. 🌶️
Where the book lost a few points for me was the plot. I found it somewhat predictable, and although the story delivered several of the advertised elements, I didn’t feel like all of the tropes had the same presence or impact I was expecting. The romance and characters carried more weight for me than the overall plot.
That said, Mash Notes was an enjoyable read with plenty of small-town charm, a lovable kid, a single dad, a city-girl adjustment, career struggles, and enough spice to keep things interesting.
34.5/50 for me, or 3½ stars.
If you’re looking for a lighter small-town romance with a single dad, a strong heroine, career struggles, plenty of chemistry, and a seriously adorable scene-stealing kid, Mash Notes is worth adding to your TBR.

Mash Notes by Jamie Lockhart is a fun, steamy small-town romance with plenty of heart. I really enjoyed the opposites-attract dynamic and the way the relationship developed between the characters. The single-dad element added an extra layer of sweetness, especially when family and romance start blending together. I also enjoyed how the small-town brewery setting gave the story a cozy, welcoming atmosphere, while the chemistry between the main characters kept things spicy and entertaining. I liked watching them work through their differences and discover that sometimes the person you least expect can be exactly what you need. Lockhart does a great job balancing romance, humor, emotional moments, and spice without losing the warmth that makes a small-town romance so enjoyable. Overall, Mash Notes was an enjoyable, lighthearted read with just the right amount of heart and heat.

Super cute small town, single dad romance. I loved all of the main characters. Everything was so unexpected, Josie didn’t have any plans to stay. It was a get in and get out kind of job. But Wyatt’s daughter, Millie, decided otherwise. I thought that was so cute. And Millie was so adorable. She was quite the little matchmaker. And Wyatt was such a great guy. Loved seeing him Anna Josie fall for one another.
