Muslims today, especially – but not exclusively – those living in the West, are faced with a variety of problems. There are the internal struggles of living an Islamic lifestyle in a world dominated by Western culture, the conflicts between parents and children, the challenge of being single in a society where one is surrounded by temptations, the frustration caused by parents who refuse to allow their children to get married, the strains on marriages, the repercussions of terrorist actions perpetrated by Muslims, the effects of racism, the confusion among the various ideologies of Muslims today, and various other trials confronting our communities. We need a book for English readers that tackles these issues, explaining the reasons for these problems and providing specific recommendations for handling them, based on the Qur’an and the authentic Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (blessings and peace be upon him). How to Make It in Today’s World is such a book
Abu Jade Isa Michael Tofte is an American Muslim convert from New Jersey, who has been active within the Muslim community for over ten years. His major studies in the field of Islamic jurisprudence centre on purification, prayer, fasting, and marriage; his minor studies include Arabic morphology, Islamic rhetoric, and theology. He has lectured on various Islamic topics at universities, mosques, and camps, given the sermons at Friday congregational prayers, and taught classes on Islamic monotheism, rules of Islamic jurisprudence, and the meanings of the Qur’an. Abu Jade also acted as the President of the Muslim Student Association at Montclair State University.
one of the best islamic books ive ever read, really touches on the right subjects that need to be addressed for muslims in this time period, the authors tone is also very encouraging and talks about a lot of subjects regarding women in a gentle and correct manner, its really a must read.
A very splendid book. Extensive in its content and explicit in its reminder. Very relevant for today’s era.
Beginning with a beautiful preface, the author proceeds to delineate the why problems in life occur and methods for solving our problems (of which is vast). A lot of hadeeth is mentioned which is always good.
Just an error I encountered. In the contents, the section on jihad comes before slavery but in the actual text the opposite occurs.
Also, I hate to be negative, but the subjects the book covers feel disjointed. The whole section of problems, marriage and conflict is bundled together and makes sense but then, the narrator proceeds to talk about the signs of the day of judgement (perhaps he is talking about how astray we are?) and terrorism at the end. I thought addressing the misconceptions of terrorism would have been at the start. This is just a nitpick but. A simple reorganising would improve the text in my opinion.
Also, the bibliography looks like a treasure trove of info. Have to dig into that.
