Some debts are paid in silence, but others are paid in blood…

When an Assistant U.S. Attorney is found murdered at his remote cabin with the number “14” branded into his chest, FBI Special Agent Allie Bishop and her partner are called in to a scene that refuses to make sense.

Days later, a retired judge turns up dead, marked with another number. The numbers form a code only the killer understands. As Allie follows the pattern deeper, she finds herself pulled into a web of buried secrets and quiet betrayals that reach far higher than she could have imagined. With more names on the list and the clock ticking down, Allie and Jason must crack the sequence before the next body falls.

Rollercoaster ride with a drop off at the end!

Allie and Jason are working their most surprising and hard case to date. What they uncover takes the whole team to assist in proving the evidence against the illegal actions taken by corrupt people. There are a lot of sleepless nights for all the investigators involved in solving the murders of some prominent law officials.
We do get a treat as Allie gets to unwind a bit at her "friends" house for supper. They both admit their feelings and agree to continue to try and build it up even more. We also get a break from the complex case to see Jason and family moving out of the apartment and into a nice little home of their own.
Eva Sparks is an author that writes about the story so well that you feel you are there with the characters! It's really nice to have an author you can count on for entertainment without profanity or excessive sexual content. She shows that a good writer can reach out to you by keeping true to each characters values as the story unfolds. Keep up the good work Eva!

Love Allie story and its getting really interesting now when she is going after what she has wanted, only didn't know it. I can hardly wait for number 12 hopefully. You never know when the story will end but I see a lot of things that could go forward. Will keep watch

My kind of story

More pieces to this story than a 1,000 piece puzzle. So many good people doing so many wrong things and caught up in a tale of horror, even though it has been years since the story began. Guess the lies will always get you in the end.

Great book in a so far great series

I loved the storyline. The case was a good one that kept you guessing as far as who was behind the killings. I'm looking forward to seeing where this series takes Allie and Ethans characters. What's next for them? The one detail i would have liked an answer for though in this book is what happened to the boy Lucas? It never talked about him being found or what happened to him after his mom's death. It's the little detail like that is the reason I took off one star. It's a small detail but one that still deserved answering.

Good, but a bit tedious

I much prefer more action and more mix of work and personal life for the characters in this series. It kind of lost me for a while.
This seemed to be so focused on the next person who was gonna die. A bit slow at times.

Power Without Integrity

The ending will explain this phrase. The violence is intense. The lives impacted will eat at the reader. Does the end justify the means?
