Cynthia Woolf is the USA Today Bestselling and award-winning author of eighty-five works of romance fiction. Comprising sixty-six historical western romances, ten contemporary romance novels, two contemporary romance novellas, one historical western romance novella, and six sci-fi space opera romances, which she calls westerns in space. Along with these books, she has also published twelve boxed sets of her books and two short stories.

Cynthia loves writing and reading romance. Her first western romance, Tame A Wild Heart, was inspired by the story her mother told her of meeting Cynthia's father on a ranch in Creede, Colorado. Although Tame A Wild Heart takes place in Creede, that is the only similarity between the stories. Her father was a cowboy, not a bounty hunter, and her mother was a nursemaid (called a nanny now), not the ranch owner.

Cynthia credits her wonderfully supportive husband, Jim, and her great critique partners for saving her sanity and allowing her to explore her creativity.

This was a good book but I had to put it down and come back to it with a better attitude. There was a lot of repetition that had begun to get on my nerves. I found Cora to be a tad bit self centered and insensitive, but no one is perfect. On the whole, she was not too bad. I am looking forward to book four after a break.

This was my favorite book of the San Francisco Brides books. I enjoyed the complexity of the story, with the love triangle between Cora, Harry, and Asa. The difference in the antagonist in this book compared to the previous two really helped with the love triangle and the overall story. Cora's difficulty with marrying her previous fiancee is a lot more understandable than the previous book. Cora's strong personality is impossible not to love and cheer on as she stands up between the two men courting her and puts them in their places time and time again. Definitely an enjoyable read with a few exciting and scary surprises.

I received a copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review. Frankly, I thought the story progressed a little too slowly and was very predictable. While the end was satisfactory, I thought the main character, Cora, was a little on the snobbish side and found it hard to relate to her. I also thought some of the phrasing was a little too modern for the period.

Overall, I liked the story and it was well-written. The attention to certain details was appreciated.

Good story idea, but..

Are you aware of how many times the reader had to read about Cora's five trunks? The story idea was a good start, but the constant repeating of subjects was so frustrating it ruined the whole book.

While I'm glad I read this third book in the series, it was a bit over dramatic. I did like Cora and Asa, but the storyline with Henry and his mother ending up insane was such a repeat. In each of these books, the villain ends up insane. Happy reading!

4.5 stars. I recieved a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed this book. It's from the 1800's when mail order brides were popular. Cora is a strong woman who has been through a lot of loss in her life. She lost her brother and fiance in the civil war so signed on as a mail-order bride. Her intention was to go to California, marry Harry and hopefully open a dress shop. Upon her arrival she finds her fiance from before the war alive. She's angry at him because he didn't have faith that she'd marry him because he lost a leg. In the mean time there's something off about Harry. There is a lot of period information. Cora became best friends with two other brides, Annie and Nellie. There are many trials they have to go through before she knows who to marry. I've had the pleasure of reading another book in this series and it was also excellent. I look forward to reading more of Ms Woolf's books in the future.

Cora is one three mail-order brides that heads to San Francisco to marry a prominent banker there that she contracted with through Matchmaker & Co. Once they arrive at their hotel in San Francisco, Cora gets the shock of her life and now she must decide whether to honor her contract with the banker or honor a promise she made years ago. She decides to go ahead and open her dressmaker's shop and she will allow both men to court her and then she will eventually decide which man she will wed. This story is full of lots intrigue, misunderstandings, threats, uncertainty, and hopefully a happy ending. If you want the full understanding of this story, I would read Nellie and Annie's stories which is easy to do in the boxset The San Francisco Brides.

Disappointing

Although reading this book was starting in the middle of the series, I had never heard of the bride's of San Francisco so I hoped that I had found a new series. Unfortunately I was wrong. This book was very predictable starting at page 1. The character development seemed rushed, the conversations were inane and many times modern phrases were used not the phrasing of the era. Much about the book was unbelievable for the era. Cora lived in her own? No chaperone and not even a live in cook or housekeeper? Hopefully, some of the other books in the series are better!

Stories are all the same

I have read every book in this series so far, and at first I thought they were great. I love mail order bride stories.
But I realized by the middle of this one, that each story had the same base elements. Greed, murder, insanity, and attempted rape or assault of the heroine.
For me, it makes for a boring story if that’s all there is to it. It’s like, “Oh no, not this again!” And that’s a shame because the author has a great writing style otherwise. But I wouldn’t recommend this series unless you like the stories to all seem to be the same.

Enjoyable

This was a better story than the last one. It wasn't so predictable. I never cease to be amazed at the grammatical errors Surely someone knows the difference between there and they're, which is just a small example Nevertheless, I enjoyed the book and would recommend it.

Wonderful romance!! All of the women In this series so far are strong amazing women but I believe Cora to be the strongest so far because she has lost everyone dear to her in her life but she's determined to be happy and make a new family even moving across country to do so.

Nice story.

A bit different, but a very nice story. I found the writing a bit "stilted".
Not quite warm and flowing, but I did enjoy.

This book was full of the right kinda drama to make it a great book. Asa had his work cut out for him trying convince Cora to love him. Harry was a twist that the book could have done without lol

I am enjoying the series. Love always wins, eventually. Great escape from white supremacy assaulting democracy at every turn. I still hope love can win in the real world as well as fantasy.

The Brides of San Francisco have become some of my favorite books. I like that they have some of the same characters to carry on the story and they are still friends. Jo

Cora Jones is a strong independent woman whom is left all alone after the death of her brother and fiancé to the Civil War. She decides it’s time to stop grieving after a few years and leave New York City and all she has known to be a mail order bride in San Francisco. Upon arriving to her hotel in San Francisco she is greeted by two men one is her current intended Harry and the other is none other than Asa Woods her supposedly deceased fiancé.

Harry Belcher is a man, whom on the outside seem like a wonderful match, but he is hiding a few secrets and he needs to wed Cora ASAP. He will do anything to make her his wife. Even if it means lying, cheating or stealing to get her to marry him.

Asa Woods has loved Cora Jones for a long time, and wanted to be engaged to her before he left for the war so she would be there when he came home. During the war, Asa sustained an injury that made him feel less of a man, so he decided that it was better for Cora if she thought he was dead. However, he overcame his fear only to find out that Cora went across the country to become a Mail Order Bride. He has to race against time and has to try to win her back before it’s too late.

Whom will Cora pick?

Cora is the book 3 in The Brides of San Francisco by Cynthia Woolf if you haven’t read Nellie or Annie I suggest you do.

A very simple entertaining good read. It was a funny, suspenseful, romantic storyline that flowed smoothly. The plot moved quickly and captured your attention from the very beginning to the end. Overall I enjoyed the historical romance story and look forward to reading more from this author. If you like mail-order bride books then it will not disappoint you.

Think And Do

When I was young in school, we were taught from a book called Think And Do. This book made me think of that book. Cora had to think before doing to keep her life safe. It was a good book.

In four days, I read all of the three Brides of San Francisco Books. Each unique in their own story and each one captivating. Cynthia Woolf is a great story teller who has the ability to keep her readers mesmerized from one chapter to the next. I recommend this series.
