The book was great. The pop-up at the end of the book where it asks for a rating and a review is terrible. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve completed it, or still been writing a review and bumped the screen and everything goes away and becomes irretrievable. So this I was nearly complete. And before I could send it slid into the deepest parts of the Martian dark skies. The star rating stays but when you try to swipe the screen to get it back it only asks if you want to share it with someone. Very frustrating. I know the authors hope everyone would leave feedback. When the software doesn’t work it’s sad!
Give me a day or two and I’ll go write the review as an edit here or go to Amazon and write one. VR, Mags
I have had quite a long patch of reading books that are in the 3 to 3.5 range, and finally, one that I really found delivered on all the levels that it was supposed to hit. Some hard science fiction (the laws of classical physics do apply to space flight), some comedy (Gizmo delivers the heart of the series); some thriller (rogue ex-military satellite is apparently not as de-commissioned as represented) and romance between our two primary protagonists. Well written, expert pacing, well-drawn characters that have earned the reader's trust and affection all combine to make this a fun, worrisome and totally plausible adventure. Kilby knows his Mars!
The Helios laser array is used to warm up part of the surface if Mars so that terra forming can occur. However, contact is lost and Nils and Gizmo have a bet that this was due to an impact. On investigation, things get worse as the array fights back! The reasons for the loss of communication become clear as investigations continue of the military decommissioned Helios and the company that sold it to Mars.... Suspense, intrigue, surprises, sabotage, blackmail, and death defying missions abound as Nils and Jan attempt to stop an oncoming disaster.....
Takes up where the other Mars books left off. Interesting plot and characters. Read it too fast so I wish it was longer. Kudos Kilby. You did it again.
