Avery Shaw can't stay out of trouble -- not that she wants to. As a reporter for a Southeastern Michigan newspaper, Avery can't stop digging for the story -- and that often makes her a target. Follow Avery as she finds new love, has trouble letting go of a past love, and deals with a family that needs a group rate for therapy. This is books four through six in the Avery Shaw mystery series. It includes: Shot Off the Presses, The Preditorial Page and Misquoted & Demoted.
Note: This character is snarky. You've been warned. This is NOT a new standalone book.
When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail. Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.
Episodes 4-6 of Amanda M. Lee's Avery Shaw series are still captivating, the crimes get grittier and Avery keeps finding the dregs of society trying to kill her. The snark and sarcasm is still hilarious, Lexie is becoming an interesting character while Jake may just be able to move on, the only gripe is as it is for all cozy mysteries and many other female led books, that is the women can't kick ass (whatever happened to Buffy) and the man always rides in to do the saving. Discounting this little bugbear Avery Shaw Mysteries do not disappoint to entertain.
I love omnibus editions! Three books in one is such a wonderful thing. Avery is a completely addictive character. She's rude, crude, and sarcastic as all heck, thankfully this is balanced by her intellect and heart. Her adventures in reporting take her to some strange places and have her tracking down murderers at every turn. Thankfully, she has Eliot and Jake on her side or she just might not survive to tell the story. I love seeing how she works. Her family is certifiable and incredibly hilarious. Eliot and Avery's relationship is growing with every story and Avery is slowly maturing. Really, amazing stories!
Oh I am just loving this series - it took me a while to get used to the narration but it works. There were some glitches in the early part of the story but then it worked.
Avery Shaw is just such a laugh and I like just listening to her story as it takes me away from all the rubbish going on. It is just fun and it is interesting to see how her relationships are developing.
However given that the author is tackling some serious stuff - gang rape at a school. It was thought provoking.
LAUGH OUT LOUD FUN!! Amanda M. Lee writes the best cozy mysteries. Then she throws in outrageously funny, quirky, and truly loveable characters. I've read (listened to) everything AML has produced to date. (Some books more than once when I need a good belly-laugh.) If you like Amanda M. Lee, you will most likely also enjoy Lili Harper Hart.
Awesome book bundle...I was able to binge on all things Avery...and be entertained by the drama, intrigue, and excitment. Cant wait to binge on the next book bundle.
I just finished the second series and the storylines and characters just keep getting better. This series not only has some good murder mysteries but it also has some great funny scenes that are LOL fun.
Avery’s life is a mess, and who does like her if anyone. From the new publisher and the staff at the newspaper, to her love life. Enjoyable and with good narration. Given audio for my voluntary review
This is hands down my favorite series to read! If you love a mystery, a little romance, and snarky female leads this series is definitely a must read!!
Yet another fun snarky heroine from this author. It's a nice perk for me reading about locations I know (or know-ish, in some cases) since her main three series are centered around various regions of my home state of Michigan. And between skiing, camping and swimming I've seen quite a bit of it. Although her paranormal series are probably my favorites, I have a soft spot for the tenacious Jedi loving reporter of this series, Avery Shaw.
I usually only fangirl over really intricate or exciting stories that are mind blowing or gripping, but I also have developed mad respect for lighter, funnier stuff. There are plenty of fluffy, silly or oversexed stories out there. But there are few authors who can make me laugh as they weave a mystery without getting too heavy or making me think too hard. (Or be too sexy to recommend to my grandma, or niece.)
Even though some structures may resemble each other when broken down, I am so entertained by the antics I never really dwell on it.
The Avery Shaw series is the same footprint over and over but as with the Witches of the Midwest I keep coming back. Amanda Lee's characters are absolutely FABULOUS and the dialogue....over the top good. I have had a ton of fun reading these series and cannot get enough. Great author.
Three more mysteries with LOL fun and snarky characters
The interaction of the major characters is so much fun. Eliot finds Avery interesting; as the saying goes, he knows her well and likes her ... anyway. She doesn't let herself get pushed around, and as Elliot realizes, she fights for those who are pushed around.
Avery is hilarious. All six books in this are great the family, the antics, the trouble is entertaining. Lee's writing style and attention to the detail without being wordy or boring is refreshing
