When I saw this on Edelweiss, I was almost positive it would be up my alley. I love a queer graphic novel, and the premise of this one was so interesting. Unfortunately, at the halfway point, I was just too bored and uninvested to push through another 119 pages. The artwork was great, and that really stood out to me as someone who often dislikes the art styles used in adult graphic novels, but I couldn't help but think it was taking too long for the plot to progress. There is a lot going on in this book, ranging from the primary storyline of Rad being forced into attempting to break off Dom and Battista's wedding to the messy relationships between a wide variety of side characters. For me, this didn't really work. I wanted to see Rad's (hopefully unsuccessful) attempts to stop the wedding from happening, but doing so felt like wading through molasses because there was so much focus on other things that I just didn't find that engaging. Having not finished the book, I obviously can't say whether or not all of those side plots ended up being relevant in the end, but my overall feeling from the first half was that this story would have benefited from being shorter and focusing more of its energy on the main storyline and the relationship between Rad and Kafka.

Delicious, comicsy, chaotic gay romcom/ action where the MC is hired undercover to break up a wedding, but falls for the best man.
Delivers the juicy amount of plot, panels & quips per page you’d hope for from an accomplished comics team & comics publisher, and feels very worth the cover price. At the same time, the art really stands out in that genre, with expressive cartooning with a streak of ‘best of 2D era Disney’, plus midcentury-feeling backgrounds with gorgeously stylish slightly-offset colouring. It all blends skillfully together in perfect synergy with the bonkers adult-caper plot, which slips along like a well oiled machine - just go with it, the way the story comes back together is extremely satisfying. The Glass Onion (Knives out series) comp is a good one, as it’s definitely in the snappy meta genre space, and it achieves what it sets out to extremely well.
If you enjoy a quippy ‘everything goes wrong’ romcom, heist-but-silly formula or animated film style, this is that - but queer, FUN and really tightly plotted.
[I didn’t get an early copy btw, this is just out in the UK next week and my pre-order came in early]

An absolute banger of a story in which the MC, Radcliff Raleigh is hired to stop a wedding between a daughter of a wealthy CEO and her absolute sweetheart of a fiance.
The first thing that god my attention in this story was the artstyle. I absolutely adore it, it's colorful, expressive and dynamic with a ton of personality. That personality is also present in the story - Radcliff has to stop the wedding despite his own moral objections and his growing infatuation with the groom's best man, Kafka. The whole plan leads to a ton of misunderstandings, shenanigans and hilarity when the wedding guests clash with each other in the messiest island retreat since The Glass Onion. It's fast-paced, funny and surprisingly heartfelt with great chemistry between the characters, fun romance and a very sweet sisterly relationship. I can't wait to be able to get a physical copy and get all my friends to read this absolute treat.

Such a fun read! It delivered everything I wanted and more from an adult graphic novel, there were a lot of characters to keep up with but I think the pacing was fine and I enjoyed the banter between them all. The central three characters were especially good and I’m really hoping they’ve set it up for a potential other book-no cliffhanger but definitely would love to see their stories continued.

An inventive premise that goes a bit too off the rails for my taste. (I lost the thread more than once.) Nonetheless, I found it extremely charming with striking artwork and several A+ jokes that made me laugh out loud. Smartasses like Radcliffe are my kryptonite.

Such a fun graphic novel. Took a while to get used to no chapters but was fine!
Love the romance in this and also the story/mystery is done equally well. Great balance between the two. Really really hoping there is a sequel to this one but also would be happy with how it ended if not.
