Hi, I’m Siobhan - which for those of you not familiar with the wonder of Irish names, is actually pronounced, Shiv-on!

I’m an award-winning author of over 50 books, fiction and non-fiction, for adults, young adults and children, and my first book was published back in 2000, so I’ve been at this writing game for almost a quarter of a century now.

I’m also a former council estate kid and a university drop-out - I dropped out because I didn’t think I had what it took to make it in the middle class world of publishing. Thankfully I managed to overcome my self doubt and fear and achieve my writing dreams, and now I love helping others do the same through my mentoring, courses and talks.

I don’t know about you, but during the pandemic I felt as if my life had collapsed in on itself and I’d had to shrink myself to fit this strange new world of lockdowns and zoom calls (oh, so many Zoom calls!) and working from home and working alone. Even when things returned to some semblance of normal back in 2022, I felt that I’d lost sight of who I was and I’d definitely lost my joy for living.

Then, an unexpected trip to Jamaica changed everything, jolting me back to life and reminding me of who I truly am. In a bid to never lose sight of myself and my sense of wonder and purpose again, I started travelling more and writing a weekly Substack letter called Wonderstruck. And in September 2023 I gave up my home in the UK and pretty much all of my worldly goods to solo travel the world while I write my books and mentor other writers.

I send Wonderstruck out to my subscribers every Sunday morning, writing about the places I visit and the lessons I learn there. My sole aim for writing this letter is to inspire others to rediscover their own sense of purpose, wonder and adventure.

If you've enjoyed reading any of my books I'd love it if you joined the Wonderstruck community over on Substack.

Thanks so much for reading and reviewing my books, I really appreciate it!

I loved it ALMOST as much as the first one and am soooo sad that there isn’t going to be a third book. 😭😭😭😭😭 I liked her we got to find out the history of Hortense and why she was so desperate to get to a random baby but so annoyed at the ending( in a good way) as it leaves on such a cliffhanger ! I really want to know what happens next , and would recommend this book to everybody.

Dark of the Moon’ is the second book in the Shipwrecked trilogy by Siobhan Curham. I will admit that the opening instalment in the series didn’t totally wow me, although I found it enjoyable enough but the excitement steps up in this one which I devoured and really loved.

I enjoyed it much more than the first book because I felt like I was thrown right into the middle of the action. Siobhan Curham never once let up on the sense of danger which hangs over the group or the sense of unease that you experience from them being on the island. There were also a lot more intriguing and unexpected twists along the way which had me hook, line and sinker.

Grace and her friends are still trying to escape the island and the Voodoo Queen Hortense. When they leave on a boat, hoping to find their way home, they realise that escape may not be possible until Hortense’s plan has played out to its full conclusion.

There's romance between Grace and her boyfriend Cruz, plus friendship drama between Grace and Jenna who is struggling to hold things together. The other secondary characters, Belle, Todd and Flea also feature but I kept expecting something terrible to happen to one of them the whole way through.

The ending was a huge surprise. Wow! I didn’t see it coming at all and desperately didn't want the story to end. I'm in absolute shock and the suspense of what is coming next is going to kill me!

This is a sizzling, spooky and supernatural read which is perfect to slip into your beach bag on a hot, sunny, summery day.

Finally there is a trace of this book. I read Shipwrecked a while back and at the time desperately trailed through goodreads and google and Siobhan Curham's website looking for some mention of the sequel, all to no avail. Now months later I check again and Hurrah it has appeared. I KNEW there was one it was just hiding from me. Sadly it seems to have only appeared to taunt me with it's beautiful cover, intriguing blurb, inventive title AND IT"S MONTHS AWAY RELEASE DATE.

Wtf just happened? I don't wanna spoil but the 1st book was good and like 70% of the second book is also good. 30% the ending is a major disappointment. I feel like I was left in the center without direction. It's a stupid reason for the ending. But if you're so inclined about having a new life and don't care about everything else, maybe you'll like it. I wish there was a 3rd book, but no, keep your imagination open after it ends.

*WARNING MILD SPOILERS!*

OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!!
I am still recovering from the after shock of reading this book!!!!
WOW! It is even better than the first!!!
I loved Grace and Cruz so much!!
Grace+Cruz forever!!! <3 they are perfect!!
There were so many jaw dropping moments in this book i couldn't believe it!!!!
Wow!! The last 3/4 of this book were so tense and dramatic and INSANE it was all i could do not to scream out 'NOOOOOO!!!'
I never liked Ruby from the start and was right all along to be suspicious of her!! GRRR
I have decided I do not like Jenna at all! She was a terrible friend to Grace and I can sympathise with her a little about her home life but Grace is in the same position and she doesn't act like a betraying malicious b*tch!!
Which brings me onto Grace!! Oh...!!!
Poor poor Grace!!! What is going to happen??!!

This book was amazing! so you might be thinking 'why only four stars'...???!
THE CLIFFHANGER!!!
OMG it is AWFUL!!!!!
AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL!!!!!

I NEEEED TO READ THE NEXT ONE NOOWWW!!!!!! :D
I need to know what is going to happen!!!! Gaaaah!!!
If I was you I would wait till the third book comes out before reading DARK OF THE MOON if you HATE cliffhangers but if you cant wait to read it...i will just say this...

BRACE YOURSELF!!! :)

I loved Grace and Cruz in this novel! They are adorable!
Jimmy the Flea is hilarious and sweet as ever but I liked how he became more serious in this book too!
Todd grew on me a little in this book! (Probably due to the fact that he and Grace were no longer an item but also something else that happened quite early on in the book and I felt quite sad for him!)
Dan also grew on me!! I liked how we got to see more of his personality come out in this book!
Jenna and Cariss!!! I hate them both so much!! Jenna more than Cariss and THAT is saying something!!
Belle!! OMG!!! My emotions were all over the place for Belle!! But I will spoil it if I say anything!! I felt both sad and terrified and shocked when it came to Belle!

New characters!
RUBY: nope!!!
Lola: hmmm...I found her quite sweet but I couldn't decide whether I could trust her or not!
Michael: I don't know what to feel when it comes to this guy I would have liked a few more details to clarify certain things but who KNOWS whats gonna happen!!! I felt awful for this poor guy!!

Just...READ THIS BOOK...but at the same time DON'T READ IT...because then you will have the agonising wait of WHATS GONNA HAPPEN NOW?!!!!! ;)

The second in the Shipwrecked series held even more surprises and spells for Grace and the gang. Even though I read Shipwrecked a couple of months ago, details were sketchy but luckily, everything came flooding back as soon as I opened the book. I fell right back into the terror of the unknown with Hortense the voodoo queen lurking over Grace's shoulder.

I so needed to find out what happened to them all and what a surprise, they couldn't make it off the island. Hortense still needs Grace for something and is keeping them all on the island until the moon is its darkest and the spell will work. For what, we had no idea until the very end. So, they were lured to the other side of the island where there is a spiritual retreat, completely cut off from the rest of the world, where they meet Ruby, Lola and Michael. Things there didn't quite make sense and understandably they couldn't relax, even with proper food and real beds! But at least they were all back together, as the few that had split off didn't make it far and were forced back to the island.

For most of the book, I was distrustful of Ruby, the retreat's owner; she didn't make it difficult, being all weird and forceful and distant. Then there were her guests, Lola and Michael. I could see why Grace instantly clicked with Lola but I was still wary of her, it was all a bit too easy that she had found them. As for Michael, he was angry and rude and while that was annoying, I could completely understand why.

And on the ending! The last few chapters held so many shockers I nearly dropped the book! I was so scared for her, she really was blind-sided with where her enemy was. Hortense's plan really was brilliant and of course terrifying, and unfortunately executed very well; I'm not sure how Grace is going to get out of this one!

'Dark of the Moon' by Siobhan Curham was a First Reads Goodreads giveaway. I was so pleased to receive this book as part of their First Reads program. This is book 2 of a two book series. Believe the first book is entitled 'Shipwrecked. While this book can be read as a standalone to some extent, it is helpful if you have an opportunity to read the
Shipwrecked' book first.

First of all, I did enjoy reading this story. There was a 'bad guy' that was difficult to identify because there was magic involved and the twists in the story kept you in the dark. There was romance which helped the storyline's intent towards the end of the book. The main characters were youths in their late teens to early twenties who are shipwrecked while on a leisure cruise and wind up on a beach with no obvious solution to being rescued.

There are references to actions in book one which basically involve other accidents and loss of members of their group. Eventually these lost group members reunite and then continue on into the mystery of new persons they encounter on the other side of the island which seems, on the surface, more people friendly and pleasant. Needless to say, the mysteries escalate and give you a sense of "what will happen next"?

It was enjoyable to read, as a mystery it was entertaining and of course, the twists throughout the book did keep on adding surprises through to the end.

This was my first book by Siobhan Curham and I really enjoyed it. So thank you Siobhan & Goodreads for picking me in this giveaway! I thought it was written very well & loved the original storyline!! Grace is such a lovable character! Can't wait to see where you take her!! The only thing I didn't like was the end but only because you left it on a cliffhanger!!! Would definitely recommend this book to any adventure story lover!

Really good and atmospheric follow-up to "Shipwrecked", and while I did figure out one big thing (who exactly was possessed by Hortense) quite some time before the end the book did still throw me a curveball by throwing out another plot twist in the final pages. I'm definitely intrigued as to how this story will continue!

3.5! I read this so quickly!! I preferred it to the first book, it was a lot more face paced and I liked the new characters. I'm unsure how I feel about the ending though, it sets up well for a third book but I can't help feeling kind of annoyed by it? Over all a good read though!

I would've given five but there was no recap to help remember forgotten characters from the last book. My fault.
