Learning to CHERISH real love

Part Two is a second chance love story that gutted me 😩😩

Adair and Sabine are young college students with promising futures. Adair was heading to New York to build out his life as an attorney, while Sabine was in tech with a brilliant mind. Adair is head over heels in love with Sabine, at first sight. He pursued her unapologetically and all he knows is he wants her non dancing azz with him forever. Their love moves fast, they are married and their family is expanding.  Before they realize it, they are slowly drifting apart. The love they share isn't enough without communication and with them being so young they lack the experience to navigate this storm.

I wasn't sure I liked the way the story was written at first, because it was a big leap forward but then she slowly revealed the cracks and devastation that led to their reality present day. It was like peeling back the onion and listen my emotions were all over the place. All I knew is I was gonna kick Adair's azz because how could you chase our girl like you did and then fumble. Lawd 😩😩 Sabine has to be one of my favorite fmcs, not because she was perfect, but because she was flawed. Because she chose herself and refused to just stay because they had kids  She made that 🥷🏾 weak in his damn knees and open up his eyes to the family he missed out on even when they were together. So many men are not present and allow their wives to take on the brunt of the housework, tending to the children, cooking, and prepping for birthdays not even realizing the toll it takes on their spouse/partner. I LOVE how it was highlighted in the story, it wasn't loud it just was.

Pam, Adair's mom was everything. The way she softly yet firmly corrected both of them was everything. I also loved how she didn't side with her son when he was wrong. When he finally acted like he was present she didn't sugar coat the truth, instead she told him where he had been lacking. And through it all she protected her grandbaby. Her presence was so important because Sabine had no family, but she truly gave her a safe haven to just be even when they were not together.

Overall, I enjoyed the story. However, it needed editing just to bring the story together better because some of the transitions were harsh.

This story was not what I was expecting from Nina, but I was pleasantly surprised, I actually had to check the cover to make sure it was indeed her lol definitely “softer” than I’m used to from her. I enjoyed Adair and Sabine so much, especially in the beginning☺️ Although they fell in love quickly and were definitely moving fast, I still genuinely felt their chemistry and feelings for each other.

However, I felt that some parts were a bit too drawn out and repetitive. I started to disconnect from the characters toward the end, and the pacing is likely why. I also could have used more insight into Tate and Narri’s relationship because their dynamic left me confused. Additionally, I really wanted some closure with Sabine’s family and her sister. Unless there will be more books in a series, I’m not sure why those plot points were left hanging 🤔 Overall, it was a good read, and I plan to buy the physical copy!

Perfect

First let me say to the readers…to some of you that do not understand trauma and therapy, the book was perfectly written, coming from a clinician.

The gap between their happiness and the beginning of part two told the way it did made sense to me. We needed to see the trauma, grief and loss, resilience and strength. I wrote a mental health journal that speaks on this: Forgiveness, Strength, and Letting Go. The stages of grief portrayed in this novel was on point.

Sabine’s Family…Even though they were not really needed, the clinician in me wanted to see more of them. I wanted Sabine’s discernment, perseverance and success (business and personal) show up and show out and humble her parents. I wanted Mr. Senator’s secrets to be exposed. But carryon

Narri and Tate. I would love to hear more of their story. Love out loud.

If you enjoyed the Kindle version you will love the paperback. It’s a few things in the book that weren’t mentioned in this but it was still beautiful.

Let’s give Author Nina her flowers. Forever a fan and supporter. I love how your novels touch mental health. ❤️❤️

This was a true second chance romance. The book did a great job of showing how Sabine and Adair created an undeniable bond, but also how marriages can slowly and quietly break. I absolutely loved Sabine and Adair both separately and together. Their story was real and emotional and it unfolded beautifully.

SN: Narri was a great side character, I’d love to read her and Tate’s story.

Wanted to love

Good: I have read everything available on Kindle by this author. When I saw this appear on Kindle I was giddy. I immediately fell in love with the characters. The past tense of this story was so good and the build up to the present was anticipating.
Not so good: I felt story lines were dropped and could have made for a better story. There was too much filler conversation ie. Inconsequential work jargon 'that I found myself skipping through', and constant repetition of the emotional state the characters were in. 'Like no need to sell it. We get it.' It just didnt seem like it was written on the same level as previous works. The story lingered a little too long in some areas.
I wanted to love it and while, I realize, this book is nothing like previous works, I feel the ball was dropped a little.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 6-star read!

Part Two was beautiful, raw, emotional, and a truly chest-caving second-chance romance. One thing Nina is going to do is make you feel everything on those pages.

I felt the hurt, the pain, the love, and the healing throughout this book. Adair and Sabine’s story was beautifully written. Watching where they started, the pain they faced, what caused the separation, and the journey toward healing—it was everything. God, I loved it!

Nar was the kind of best friend everyone needs, and Pam was absolutely amazing as a mother figure. She gave Adair and Sabine the truth every single time and never sugarcoated anything.

Yeah… this book has officially become one of my favorite second-chance romances. 😩

Beautiful!

I wasn't ready!
This story was absolutely amazing!
The gentleness, grace, and love shown on page was impeccable. Pam was such a girl's girl and MOTHER!
I am impressed with the way family was written into the story. The good, the bad and the ugly. And HARLAN!!!!!!! Please let Harlan's pillow always be cool, the money always flow, and he experience abundance in all things. He is a MAN, but more than that...a friend. He deserves everything good. I could go on and on about all the gems dropped in this story. Nina has outdone herself as a connoisseur of grief. She goes down deep into the trenches and exposes the ugliness of it, but then shows how you can also climb your way out and thrive in light and love. I highly recommend this book and will undoubtedly be reading it again and again.

This is my first book by Nina and it won’t be the last. Part Two was written so well that I was actually rooting for Adair and Sabine to find their way back to each other. Adair and Sabine met in college and everything about their relationship was on the fast lane but they were just too young to deal with everything that came with the relationship. But reading how they navigated back to each other pulled on my heart.
I loved how Adair’s family became Sabine’s family even after they divorced.
Now that heifer IYKYK deserves far more than what she got.
Overall I’m giving this a 4.25🌟

Boring

This book started off good but fell off pretty quickly. It was super repetitive. Every chapter mentioned the same feelings over and over. The in depth description of the work days was felt like fillers. Also this is a different writing style than previous books.

💍❤️‍🩹

One thing Nina gonna do is make you feel. I went through so many different emotions reading this. This was such a raw, beautiful story that really pulled me in from beginning to end.

The characters, the emotions, the situations… everything felt so real. I found myself completely invested and honestly just sitting with certain moments after reading them. This the type of book that sticks with you.

If I’m being completely honest, I did not want it to end. It’s a standalone, I know, but I still want more. I wasn’t ready to let these characters go yet.

I love stories that can truly make you feel something. Definitely one that will stay with me. I will be doing a reread before the year is over. I highly recommend but definitely read the trigger warning because sensitive topics are discussed.

A little too soft for me!

The storyline is great, but the execution of the story was a little slow and soft. if you have a little time to kill and wanna read something soft and fluffy that I'm recommended.

ok book

Part Two had a beautiful emotional atmosphere and I did enjoy the second chance romance aspect, especially the idea of two people finding their way back to each other after everything they’d been through. The writing was easy to get into and there were definitely some heartfelt moments.

That said, I struggled to fully connect with the characters at times, and parts of the story felt a little drawn out for me. I wanted more depth in the relationship development and a stronger emotional payoff by the end.

Overall, it was an okay read with some sweet moments, but it didn’t completely wow me. If you enjoy emotional second chance romances with a soft, reflective vibe, you might still like this one.

Expected More, It Never Came

I am looking forward to the story of women who move on from these traumatic relationships and don't have to be wounded so terribly to receive proper love. I was rooting for Sabine to move on in bliss with Harlan and see a healthy coparenting relationship with Adair.
I was also disappointed in Adair's quick downfall. He went from a doting and loving husband down a quick spiral.

Where was the resolution with the parents and sister? I kept waiting for that to resurface, and it never happened.

I think the story was there, I just wanted and expected more.

This book pulled me in from page one. Great character development. THIS is what I mean when I say I want to feel the love between the characters, not just the author throwing two people together and calling it romance. We actually experienced their love from day one, from the moment they met all the way through the redemption and obstacles they faced together.

What I do wish, though, is that we had gotten more of the actual marriage. We got the newlyweds and then suddenly the divorcees, and for a while I felt lost because it was obvious something major happened, but I didn’t know what. I also wish the present timeline had a date attached to it because part one was very date heavy, while in the present the only clue we really get is knowing their child is five.

I honestly think it would’ve flowed better if we had gotten the breakup first and then moved into the present timeline.

Now the “push” situation got exaggerated badly. Why was nobody telling Sabine she should never jump in the middle of two grown men fighting? The book literally says Adair jerked too hard and Sabine lost her footing. How is that him purposely pushing her? That entire situation got dragged for chapters like everybody already wanted Adair to be the villain and turned him into public enemy number one over something that didn’t even happen the way they were claiming. Honestly, he should’ve been angry they kept framing it like he intentionally shoved her.

The biggest issue for me was how repetitive the second half became. The book was way too long because it kept circling the exact same conversations over and over. Adair apologized for the same thing repeatedly. Sabine was angry about the same thing repeatedly. And after a while it became exhausting.

Not the baby situation, because obviously losing a child is devastating, but everything surrounding the divorce itself just kept being rehashed nonstop. Five years had already passed. They divorced already. What else did she want from him? At some point I was glad Adair walked away because Sabine became exhausting to read. Then she started acting desperate and delusional over Harlan, which just showed she still had unresolved issues.

The story honestly could’ve been at least 100 pages shorter. The same topics were repeated over and over and over again. They lost a child, yes, but the constant dwelling on the exact same arguments and blame surrounding the breakup became draining instead of emotional.

Even when they finally go to therapy… they’re STILL talking about the same thing. Which honestly should’ve happened from the beginning because that’s where those conversations belonged. Instead, so many earlier conversations happened with biased family and friends, which just kept escalating things instead of helping them heal.

Part one honestly should’ve included the during marriage and the break up, which should’ve taken up more of the book because that was the strongest section. Part two could’ve been much shorter because nothing major was really happening besides repeated conversations, angry outbursts, and revisiting the same issue again and again.

The one-liners were making my eye twitch real bad. I skipped over them. 😭

I mean, good story and strong romance development, but it became a bit boring.

this book was… (spoilers)

This book was a much needed surprise because I didn’t know Nina had a new book out.
I’ll start by saying that I absolutely love Narri! Her as a friend and her seemingly more than a sister to Sabine than her real sister.
Ms. Pam was my second favorite because she accepted Sabine with open arms from the start and basically became her mother. The love and support throughout the entire book had me emotional.
Adair’s entire family made this book even more special because they loved Sabine and was there for her and was supportive of her even when things fell apart.
This book had some triggers but I am not sensitive to most things so it didn’t bother me. That delivery room scene during the loss of their baby had me emotionally weak. The fact that Adair was out doing what he was doing was the most frustrating part of this entire book for me.
I feel like they were both young. They fell hard and fast for each other and they both did what they felt was right. While Adair was all in and ready to be Sabine’s everything, I felt the overwhelm and hesitation in Sabine. She loved him but everything happened so fast in the beginning and she edited her own feelings about it all and just went with what Adair wanted for them.
Much like real life, they had no idea how being in that honeymoon phase only lasted for so long. Trying to get life started along with being in law school, having goals and starting a family was a lot for them and things fell apart. I understood his point about how he thought making sure she wanted for nothing and taking care of her meant
he was a good husband. I understood him hearing her phone conversation hurt his pride. I felt her loneliness when the nights became cold and they drifted apart. I just keep thinking about how they were young and knew nothing about real life.
I will say this. He was so caught up in his work life that he neglected her needs. I was glad he wasn’t Corrine focused but was more work focused. Things were already broken prior to Corrine. Im glad he didn’t touch her until they were separated BUT she was a sore spot for Sabine so he shouldn’t have touched her at all. As emotionless as Nina made their intimate interactions I was glad love wasn’t involved BUT he still shouldn’t have touched her.
I hate a woman like Corrine. Adair was the one who owed his wife the loyalty but Corrine knew he was married and was just waiting her turn. I wish Narri was able to have her way with Corrine and whip her tail because she thought she was going to have Adair but he shut her down.
I usually don’t do second chance books because I don’t do second chances in real life. I would not have been upset if Sabine had ended up with Harlan. I loved his vibes. I feel like in second chance books the men shouldn’t be the only ones to get that sexual gratification while the woman can’t bare to let another man in. I think Sabine should have taken Harlan for a nice slow ride and Adair should have been made to live with it.
This was a 5 ⭐️ read for me because I kept thinking about this book even when I couldn’t physically pick it up due to responsibilities.

A Story That Respected the Hurt

This was my first Nina read, and it definitely won’t be my last.

I’m usually very hesitant when it comes to second-chance romances, especially when infidelity is involved, because too often the hurt gets glossed over in favor of rushing the couple back together. That wasn’t the case here.

What I appreciated most about this story was that nobody skipped the work. The emotions felt real, the pain was respected, and the healing process wasn’t rushed. The author allowed both characters to examine where things went wrong, take accountability, and have the difficult conversations that many romances avoid.

I also loved the structure of the story. Watching the couple fall in love and build a life together before seeing the aftermath of their broken relationship made the emotional impact even stronger. The pacing felt intentional, and the supporting cast added so much warmth and depth. There were moments that made me laugh, moments that made me angry, and several that tugged at my heart.

What stood out most was how mature this story felt. It wasn’t about grand gestures or easy forgiveness. It was about communication, accountability, family, friendship, and what it really takes to rebuild trust.

If you’ve been hesitant to pick up a second-chance romance involving infidelity because you’re worried the damage will be minimized, I highly recommend giving this one a chance. This story handled difficult topics with care and delivered an emotional, satisfying reading experience.

This was a beautiful story, and I’m looking forward to reading more from Nina.

4.3 ⭐️⭐️
I have to say, this book isn’t what I expected from Nina, but it was still a good read. With that being said, I think it’s also my least favorite. Nina writes down!!! So to see The repetitive words and errors really threw me off sentences like not this, not that, just right were so prevalent in the book that I skimmed and skipped so many pages. This is the reason for my low score.

Now onto the actual meat and potatoes of the book. I love a second chance redemption story, but I felt as if the FMC didn’t have to acknowledge her failure in that relationship for 90% of the book. When reading it, you could totally understand how the MMC got to where he was. Don’t get me wrong, he was dead wrong, but the series of events that happened weren’t entirely his fault. No one could’ve predicted what happened to hold him solely accountable was just wrong. The way Nina writes a story, it has you totally wrapped up in it. She weaves this tale of heartbreak, remorse, and love so well that you felt like you knew these people. You felt like you could see these people in your life. The FMC best friend was the one who really got through to her and I love that. I really want a spinoff story for the best friend lol.

The story was so good, the errors really killed the book for me. This has never been the case, which leads me to believe the editor is using AI.

I went into this book completely blind. It’s Nina, so I knew it would be nothing short of amazing. What surprised me was how different it felt from her usual work; a soft, emotional second-chance romance.
Sabine and Adair are two college students with promising futures ahead of them. Adair pursues Sabine relentlessly, and once she gives him a chance, things move quickly. Sabine uproots her life to support his career, they get married, have a child, and eventually their relationship begins to shift.
Like we've seen so many times in movies, TV shows, and real life, someone drops the ball. In this case, they both do.
Nina does what she does best: she writes trauma with incredible depth and honesty. But alongside the heartbreak is healing, beautiful, hard earned healing. The supporting cast absolutely shines, especially Adair’s mom, Ms. Pam; his cousin, Reeka; Sabine’s best friend, Narri; Adair’s best friend, Tate; and even Harlan. I kept saying "oooh they need to see Dr. Pie" Nina did not let me down.
As gut-wrenching as the trauma was, watching Sabine and Adair heal together made every moment of frustration worth it, even the rage I felt toward Adair at times.
This is another banger from Nina. Highly recommended.

May Read: Part Two by Nina ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book pulled every emotion out of me. Nina has a way of writing that makes you feel every ounce of love, grief, heartbreak, and healing right alongside the characters. What stood out most was how real and relatable the story felt. It wasn’t wrapped up in predictable moments or easy answers. It explored second chances, redemption, and the hard truths that come with unconditional love in such a raw and honest way. Sabine completely won me over with the grace and strength she carried throughout her journey. Even when she was hurt, she never lost herself, and I admired the way she let karma speak louder than revenge. Adair frustrated me at times, but once he truly took accountability and started putting in the work, I found myself rooting for him and wanting him to get it right. And Narri? Absolutely a girls girl. Every story needs a character like her. Nina delivered one of her most beautifully written stories with Part Two. The relationship between Sabine and Adair felt authentic, messy, painful, and deeply human. This is definitely a story to sit with and take your time reading because the emotional weight behind it deserves that.

I truly loved reading Sabine and Adair’s story. They’re the definition of true love never dies. It may experience some hardships that bring unexpected storms…BUT when the love is real, it’ll find a way to survive and be whole again. They were young when their story began, and things moved fast, and they both moved on what they thought was right based on societal terms. But quickly they learned that sometimes things have to fall apart in order for them to grow as individuals before coming back together for the better.

I loved the family that Sabine gained just from being with Adair. Even when times were tough, they never allowed her to isolate herself, and made it clear she would remain family no matter what. It’s a shame how her real family treated her, and how they missed all of the pivotal moments in her life and career. I also love the support Adair and Sabine received from their friends Tate and Narri.

This was an overall good second chance romance…but I don’t expect anything less from Nina.

P.S. It’s 🖕🏾Corrine for life!

Nina. My word. There is something so incredibly beautiful and profound about writing a journey through love, grief, and healing in such an honest and raw way. Nina surpassed that with this book. I may or may not have cried through the last chapter. Sabine’s journey back to herself felt so familiar in ways it’s hard to put in words but her honesty and vulnerability made you feel every emotion with her. Discovering herself in this new space and standing in it fully, embracing all parts - even the ones she felt she had left behind - how beautiful. And Narri??? A real one. I appreciated how Nina introduced side characters, giving enough to satiate the reader without leaving plot holes that felt jarring. They came forward to add the necessary context at the right depth then faded to the background like a whisper in a way that felt intentional and appropriate. I don’t give five stars often, but without hesitation I knew Part Two was deserving. Nina, well done indeed.

Everyone blame Adair

This is a SCAB read. (2nd chance after betrayal). I usually find that the redemption or groveling is not enough for the betrayal. In this instance. The condemnation was too great for the human error.

Sabine was suffering from being swallowed up in someone else’s dream and Adair was being crush under the weight of taking on way too much responsibility too fast, too young. Neither expressed their troubles to the other. Sabine confided in her friends. Adair suffered alone. The one time Adair chose to be selfish and press pause on life ends up being the worst possible time. Because of this everyone in the book is hard on him. The FMC, her friends, his friends, and his family and on top of that he is hard on himself for his mess up. Oh and I almost forgot about the therapist. She even blamed him which killed me cause shouldn’t she have been unbiased? The name Dr Apple Pie was a crazy name choice so maybe she wasn’t a real Dr.

The majority of the book is everyone telling the MMC how he was wrong for what he did to the FMC. It was way too much especially since he really didn’t do anything wrong except want to take a breath away from the pressure of his life. His timing was just horrible. On top of that, the betrayal wasn’t really a betrayal. If Adair had been Sabine, the betrayal would’ve been assault. The situation wasn’t invited or consensual but he is punished the whole book for it. Not one time does anyone ask why a good man and husband would want to mentally check out of life.

I almost DNF’d the book cause I got tired of reading the FMC throw their deceased baby in his face. It desensitized me to the traumatic MC/SB situation.

I struggled thru. Narri saved the book surprisingly. She was the voice of reason in the middle of the “Adair is trash” group as well as a great friend. Her character said what I thought so that saved it but I think it was a little too later.

The story wasn’t bad I just wish it had more balance between the MCs.

On a petty side note: I disliked almost all the names in the book. I think the author was trying to be purposeful and missed the mark. Rayne and Beau were cute but their last name would be Dayne. Rayne Dayne? Beau Dayne? Why?

Ok I don’t usually do this but I heard such great things about this book, I was elated when it became available on KU. I was already apprehensive because I cannot stand second chance, there aren’t many instances where the break up isn’t justified.

So let’s get to the good, I LOVEEEEEEED their meet cute. It was so sweet and wholesome and had me giggling and kicking my feet. I got a false sense of security. The breakup was absolutely warranted and I would’ve NEVER taken this man back played in her face and I guess I’m not as forgiving cause I would’ve moved on.

The writing was weird, Nina’s book Lemon Pepper is one of my all time favorite books. While I cannot stand any of the Porter brothers I also cannot say On Us is not well written. This felt soulless, lots of pointless comparisons, similes, metaphors it read like it was written by a robot…. Do you see where I’m going with this? I was very disappointed with this book.

While I don’t feel like this book was anything to RAVE about, I can absolutely appreciate the rawness of it!

What Sabine and Adair lost was so raw and real. One may even say relatable. Their brokenness and healing was so palpable the entire book. I’ve never felt so connected to a story and its characters.

Sabrina and Narri’s friendship is the epitome of what it means to find a sisterhood in someone and to walk with them through every season of their life. Narri’s love for Sabine was real and unapologetic. She loved her through every season with patience and grace, while still holding her accountable.

Pam gave Sabine something her parents could’ve never given her, a love without conditions! Through it all she remained a constant even when Sabine didn’t know how to show up.

I’m so glad they finally got their happy ending!

Wow

To actually heal and witness the healing amongst these characters was insane. I felt like among Sabine and Adair’s journey I was also healing parts of my own past relationships. Learning how to listen and be in the moment and how not being in that moment can affect everyone around you.

The love Narri had for Sabine and always being her advocate. I just loved all the characters. And even Harlen was a great addition that needed to be added for Sabine to see herself again. This was another Nina exceptional read. Of course Apple Pye was always a treat to revisit again, we love her!

I wanted to see Sabine also get closure with her parents and even a little more of a peak into her and her sister’s healing journey but I still loved it nonetheless.

One of the best second chance romance I’ve read.
Nina W R O T E this love story.

Adair & Sabine were young & in love. They moved too quick with committing but everyone makes mistakes. Adair betrayal was one that will make your heart ache. The kind of betrayal that some women can’t forgive. Sabine had to grieve her daughter and marriage. Adair had to deal with the consequences of his actions. Changed behavior is the BEST apology. Adair & Sabine’s growth was amazing to read.

Adair’s mother Pam dropped so many gems throughout this book. His whole family held him accountable & that’s a family to love. I love that Narri held Sabine accountable.

I low key would love a novella on Sabine’s messy family. Also what’s going on with Narri & Tate?
