Edebi karakterlerin yediği veya yaptığı yemekler.. Bazen bir şiir dizesinde geçen bir yemek.. Bunları derleyip bir yemek kitabına dönüştürmek ne güzel, ne şirin bir fikir!

Belki Sylvia Plath'ın karakteri gibi yengeç salatası veya Henrik Ibsen'in Fransız makaronlarını evde yapamam ama Anna Karanina'nın mantar ezmesini, Oranges are Not the Only Fruit'in fasülyeli sosislerini, Zorba'nın çeşnilendirilmiş balığını
deneyebilirim.

Yaşasın edebi ziyafet, yaşasın yemek tariflerini kurgu kitabı gibi okuyanlar (it's me hun, hi☺️)

Keşke biraz ziyafet olsaydı!

Bu kitabın ana dilinde çok keyif verdiğine eminim. Tabii daha ilk Batılı “sorumluluk reddi” ile başlayan bir kitap okuyucuya ne kadar keyif verebilir tartışmalı.

-Halen bacon’a “pastırma” diyip geçiyoruz. Tat ve doku olarak bambaşka şeyler. Bir yemekte doğrudan birbirlerinin tam ikamesi değiller. Bu da reçetelerin birebir uygulanamayacağı sorununu getiriyor ki çeviri yemek kitaplarında en dikkat edilmesi gereken hususların bence başında geliyor.

-Geyik etleri, istiridyeler havada uçuşuyor ama Worchestershire sosu için tanım konuyor, akçaağaç şuruplu tarifler var ama ülkede üç kaşık şuruba ulaşmak için yüzlerce lira harcamanız gerek , İskoçların meşhur sakatat dolması haggisi anlatmak ve tarif etmek zor. Ne yapmalı? İyi bir yayınevi ve şikemperver bir çevirmen ya olmayan yiyecekleri kitaptan çıkaracak ve “KISALTILMIŞ/ Adapte edilmiş edisyon” yazacak ya da biraz uğraşıp ülkedeki ikâme ürünler için kafa patlatacak. Asırlardır Karsambaç yapılan ülkede “Akçaağaç şuruplu kar” tarifi biraz kolaya kaçmak olmuyor mu?

- Yine mizanpaj hataları ve atlanan küçük hatalar. Sizce Don Kişot tortilla mı yer yoksa Frittata mı? Ne ara İtalyan oldu bizim La Manchalı?
Tariflerin hazırlanış sayfalarında kopukluklar var.

-Çoğu eserin Türkçe çevirisi var , bazıları yazılmış bazıları yazılmamış. Neden? Yayınevleri arası küslük mü var?

Tabii ben yine denecek tarifler çıkardım, bazı çalışmalar için ilham da aldım. Ama yok, kitabın başında “ … yazar ve yayıncı , her bir tarifin doğruluğunu veya başarısını garanti etmez” yazınca ziyafet zoraki bir doyma hissine dönüyor, e bu da zevk vermiyor.

This book combines my two great loves of food and reading. Allowing me to reminisce on many books I have read, this collection of foody quotes from many memorable authors, draws inspiration from the lives of fictitious characters, and designs recipes that bring these works of fiction to life in the kitchen. Some of my favourite recipes include Zola's endives and oranges, Tolstoy's mushroom pate and Austen's baked apples. My feeling with this book is that it would have been of even additional interest had the recipes been accompanied by some photographs.

This is the second recipe book that combines my love of food and cooking (the first being Recipe for Murder: Frightfully Good Food Inspired by Fiction) and while I may not have enjoyed this quite as much as that one it is still a superb collection of tales that ties in not only with individual works but also with the authors themselves. Each recipe is preceded by a quote or extract and many have a bit of additional explanation to tie them into the works and/or author chosen. You also get a bit of history about the recipe too. The recipes themselves are easy to follow and give ideas for little twists or alternative ingredients for those that are a little more difficult to find or that may not be for everyone.

A sheer delight! Books and food are two of my favourite things. When I discovered this book I simply had to buy it and it didn't disappoint! I couldn't stop reading it, entranced to find quotes from my favourite books and authors, and was sold at the introduction 'for eating and reading are two pleasures that combine admirably' CS Lewis. They surely are! This book is perfect for dipping in and out of for lifting the spirits, The recipes are simple and perfect to rustle up then settle down with a book! I just love it & will be certainly be buying a couple for surprise Christmas presents!
