A powerful creative non-fiction based on his grandfather’s time in Europe during the Second World War, Michael gracefully tells the story of a grandson who travels to Europe to uncover his grandfather's past.
I couldn't put this book down. It was really good. Multi-layered, complex, honest. Better than Eat, Pray, Love. I I just don't agree with it being called a Soviet era war memoir. I'd call it a contemporary love story with some Soviet family history woven into the narrative.
I loved this book. Highly recommend! Beautifully written, a tribute to the author's Grandfather, their relationship, and the struggles growing up in the Ukraine during WW2. Enjoyed following the author's travels to the many countries he visited while following in his Grandfathers footsteps.
