How Forever Feels

Rate this book
From USA Today bestselling author Laura Drewry comes a warm and witty new Friends First novel — perfect for readers of Jill Shalvis and Susan Mallery. How Forever Feels is a sweet tale about the one that got away... and the one that came back.

Maya McKay’s heart is as big as Jack Rhodes’s shoulders are broad. Their chemistry is out of control, but it could never work between them because Jack is more than just best friends with her cheating ex-husband — they’re like brothers. Maya, the sensitive, practical florist, has given up on love and is ready to settle for like. But now that Jack’s around again, he’s stirring up old feelings — and turning Maya’s fantasies into irresistible reality.

Jack blew his chance with Maya years ago when he stepped aside for his best friend, Will, and he’s still kicking himself about it. Maya was promised forever once before, and she got burned. But when Jack realizes that second chances aren’t going to fall out of the sky, he seizes the moment — and the woman he’s always loved — to show her how forever truly feels.

Love stories where friends become lovers because it establishes a deeper connection between our heroes. What's even more interesting about this story is the bromance between Maya's exhusband and our hero. I like that the internal conflict was centered on that connection and that to the ex's family whom Jack owed a lot to. The emotions are a treat to follow and the writing did it justice. The way Will ultimately approaches things wraps everything up very well.

I liked this but it fell flat in the romance and relationship department. "I love you but you were married to my best friend and even though he had a long term affair and he's now marrying his mistress, we just can't hit the sheets or start a relationship." Lather, rinse and repeat. Over and over.

On the plus side, the writing flowed and the dialogue was never stilted or awkward, which is a huge plus for me. Actually, dialogue and the art of a decent conversation have been making or breaking books for me lately and in this instance, How Forever Feels delivered.

Totally cute, funny, charming and heartwarming. An excellent friends to lovers book that will make you smile while you snuggle up with it.
“Everything you need to know is in that first kiss.” Rachel Green, Friends, “The One with the Sonogram at the End.”

Maya had pictured of having a fairytale life. A picked fence, handsome husband and 2.5 children, but life doesn’t always turn out the way we’d like and for the past two years Maya has been mourning the loose of her dream because of her cowardly cheating ex-husband and thinking of settling. But the return of Jack, her ex-husband’s best friend, who also happens to be her friend, has Maya second guessing her less than ideal options white rousing emotions she hadn’t realized existed between them. Can he actually be her prince charming and make her dreams come true?
“I’m not great at the advice… can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?”Chandle Bing, Friends, “The One with the Tea Leaves”

Four years ago Jack had set his sights on Maya, but once his almost brother came into the picture, he quietly bowed out. But it was the biggest regret of his life, especially after the way Maya was hurt. But when his job requires him to spend a few months back in his home town, he’s also put in Maya’s path. Will he let his sense of duty and debt to his adoptive family keep him away from the woman he’s always loved or will he take advantage of this second chance life has given him?
“Now, do you thing his ‘love stick’ can be liberated from its denim prison’” Rachel Green, Friends, “The One with Mrs. Bing.”

It’s impossible not to like a book that starts out every chapter with an iconic TV sitcom quote. I went in search a MEME for every single one, because Friends is one of my all-time favorite TV shows. But besides those guaranteed smiles, I also liked both Maya and Jack, they were delightful characters.
“How you doin’?” Joey Tribbiani, Friends, “The One with Rachel’s Sister”

Right from the start Maya and Jack show us how comfortable they are around each other, but at the same time how very blind they were to the fact that they complemented one another and would be perfect if they could get past the heartbreak and the “would’ve, could’ve, should’ve.”
“Why do you call her ‘Snip’?” Maya sighed over a smile. “Because he thinks I’m like a snippet of a full grown person.”
_______
“Me?! Me. You were talking about me… Your girlie parts are on high alert because of me.”

Jack had an incredible amount of endearing qualities – he was sweet, caring and funny – that should have made him perfect. But even though he loved Maya, he was still very hesitant to cross the friend line and there were times I wanted to slap one or the other or even both silly with all their doubtfulness. I felt very much for Jack and everything he had to live through while growing up, I even understood the complexity added by his relationship with Maya’s ex-family in-law, but I still wanted him to take action.
“Oh… my… God,” Janice, Friends, “The One with the Candy Hearts”

But lucky they had an incredible set of friends who in a sense had become Maya’s family and then Jack’s by association. They complimented the story with their input and fun intrusions. I also enjoyed how very much he treasured Maya and all the good and fun times they had together, because they did have an amazing friendship that helped in overcoming their heartbreak and turned into sweet, sexy romance.

If you’re looking for a sweet, friends first romance How Forever Feels is a good choice. It is the fourth book in the Friends First series by Laura Drewry. It is a standalone, contemporary romance, with interconnecting characters from past books. Told from both points of view with a happy ending.

Yeah, nope. The H is best friends and "like a brother" to the h's ex-husband who has been cheating on her before they even got married and never even told her? I don't want my hero's loyal to scum like that, no matter the heartbreaking backstory.

And then the h caught her ex-husband screwing some assistant librarian in his classroom and instead of kicking him in the balls she tried work through it! Hell naw!! I can't ever imagine staying with a cheater and I want my h's to have some dignity. Here's what she said:

I'm so done here. I'm just glad I'm barely a chapter in and didn't waste too much time on this.

**I received an ARC through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.**

Honestly, I skipped so much of this book. I could not stand Jack. I thought he didn't deserve Maya in any way!!! Jack is best friends/foster brothers with Maya's ex-husband, Will. So I understand why he is loyal to him, but there comes a point where you go WTF!!???!!!!

He KNOWS Will cheats on Maya even before they are married, yet doesn't tell her (even though he is in love with her) and THEN sides with Will's family that Maya overreacted by leaving Will when she walks in on him having sex with yet another woman. THEN Jack has the nerve to ask Maya to supply the flowers for Will and his soon-to-be wife's (THE WOMAN MAYA WALKED IN ON) wedding the next day!!! I mean WTF!!! Nope. Nope. Nope.

The only bright spot is the relationship with Maya and her friends.

It was my fault for reading this (even though I had read the reviews) bc this book will haunt me.

Here we go:

First off, the H got off too easy for his lack of loyalty to the h. He didn’t tell her when her fiancé cheated at the bachelor party. Not sure how realistic it is for her to trust him after that.

And the ex husband!!!!!!!!

That disgusting slime KNEW he didn’t want to marry the h (or date her at all) but didn’t have the balls to tell her. He was doing it for his mom. Never mind the fact that HE was the one who proposed a few months into them dating. He knew she loved him and wanted to build a family. But rather than telling the truth, the H cheated on her at the bachelor party (something that the ex’s mom also failed to tell her) and then kept cheating over and over again with the woman he he later decides to “commit” to.

The h tried to make the marriage work— making counseling appointments, which he ditched) and by trying to initiate sex (which he cruelly rejected).

How dare he have so little respect for the institution of marriage that he would have done all this to the h? And then change all of his positions so suddenly for the mistress so that they can presumably spend the rest of the book being deliriously happy? Not believable.

Also very little if any guilt or regret is expressed on either of their parts. They get married and he claims he would never cheat now that he has someone he loves and that he NOW he wants a family. But how can someone like that be capable of a loving relationship, let alone marriage? Those things require courage and honesty. So, even though he claims he didn’t love h and now is different bc he loves the ex mistress/new wife, I don’t buy it. His cowardice showed his true character. I don’t believe he’s become a good guy and CANNOT believe the H told him something along the lines of “you picked a good one this time and that you make a good couple.” He should have friend-dumped that slime’s ass a while ago and not showed up to the wedding. (I sort of believe in forgiveness, but not in this case.)

Also the idiot H tried to make h arrange the wedding flowers so that she could show her own maturity and forgiveness. That's asking too much of her for an ex Husband who didn’t really express any regret for his actions—he says sorry once, but it was in order to get her to do something, That just isn’t enough grovel to warrant her forgiveness and was just plain unbelievable after all that time he spent being an asshole.

And last but not least, once the h has finally started to move on from all this and develops feelings for the H, the ex Husband actually had the unmitigated gall to be upset bc he was once with her... or some other idiotic reason. Didn’t understand that part and don’t really care. He eventually tries to get them back together once h found out that H knew about the ex's cheating the whole time and she leaves him, but it was entirely for the H’s benefit. You get the vibe that he doesn’t care about the happiness of the woman he screwed over so royally. There just wasn't one ounce of compassion in this guy.

If there were any justice in the world the new wife will cheat on him so that disgusting piece of shit will feel what it’s like and then would live unhappily for the rest of his life!

THREE STARS

So I kind of get freakishly excited when I see a book written by a Canadian author in my preferred genre and you better believe that when Laura Drewry started writing the Friends First series I was hooked. The series doesn't have a lot of heat and to be quite honest, its pretty much all fluff, but tell me a story in a sleepy little fictional Canadian small town with a sprinkle of friends-to-lovers and I'm hooked! The book is the fourth in the series, and I'm assuming last.

This one is about Maya, the last of the quartet of the Newport girls night out crew and her story with Jack. As we know from the rest of the series Maya had her heart broken when her ex-husband cheated on her with Skanky Stella. In the book, Jack, her ex's best friend and the guy who introduced them in the first place is in town for work. The rest as you know, is your typical Harlequinesque forbidden friends-to-lovers storyline. I didn't dislike the book and I definitely liked Maya and Jack as characters, but in comparison to the rest in the series it was definitely not my favourite.

First because simply put, Will and Stella ruined the book for me. I understand that their purpose in the book was to add conflict but seriously, my feelings toward "Stella the Skank" and "Dickward Will" can be summarized by the following:

I felt that the book was too focused on them and Jack cared too much for them and the Carsons. I think in general I also felt that they had yet to get their comeuppance. I understand that the author was trying to show the complexity of infidelity by showing a human side to the two of them, but I'm sorry those two ARE horrible people, especially in the way they treat Jack both emotionally and in the way they are overtly financially dependant on him. I felt that the book felt almost incomplete and I as a reader did not feel vindicated by seeing the two of them actually suffer from the consequences of their actions.

Second, my issue was with Jack... kind of. All I wanted to do while I was reading the book was rip through the virtual pages of this book and literally shake Jack and yell at him. You deserver better than the shitty Carsons, damnit! Jack, please get your ish together!

All in all, this book isn't a steamy little treat or even one with an interesting/unique storyline, but it is a charming one. The series was very reminicencet of a Kristan Higgins novel and I really enjoyed the friends first element. I'd recommend this for a quick read, but I'd recommend the first one in the series over this one.

My thoughts and feelings while reading (Lots of quotes included!):

0.0% This is going to be my next read - I may get to start it tomorrow :) Ill have to see though because I I need to do lots of work tomorrow coz Ive done nothing the last few days coz of Hold on haha :)
I still havent been able to start this :( Ive been really busy the last few days I may finally get the time tonight but I cant guarantee it :( Third year is stressful and busy!! :'(

1% “How you doin’?” Joey Tribbiani, Friends, “The One with Rachel’s Sister”
I feel like I'm gonna love this already! Just by reading the friends quote!! I absolutely LOVE friends!!!! <3 <3

2% Oh yeah.” Jack’s eyes crinkled at the corners. “I don’t think any one of them’s moved since you shoved them all out of the way and leapt over the table.” “I didn’t leap!” Heat raced up Maya’s neck and across her cheeks until she finally had to laugh and look down at the floor for a second. “Okay, I might have leapt a little, but I haven’t seen you in…what…two years, so a little leaping wasn’t completely uncalled for.”
I'm already enjoying the banter between these two n im liking that they know each other quite well already :) :D I feel like Im totally in the mood for this type of book n I gonna love it soon!! :D

7% “That’s so sad,” Jayne murmured. “Poor kid.”
Poor Jack! :(

9% “What?!” So loud, so very, very loud, it brought Shelley hustling back to their table.
OMG!! What the fuck?!? I was not expecting that!!

11% So for two years he’d avoided Snip and tried, mostly unsuccessfully, to distance himself from Will, especially where Stella was concerned. He’d skipped any Carson family gatherings if Stella was going to be there, and whenever one of them mentioned her name, Jack did what he did and kept his mouth shut.
Oh Jack!!! Im really starting to like you! I cant wait to see more of you and get to know you better - I have a feeling Im going to fall for you soon!!! :)

13% You met Ellie last night, well, Brett’s her…I don’t know…what are we supposed to call you and Ellie, Brett?” “I’m the love of her life.” The guy’s expression didn’t so much as flicker, just stayed stoic and even. “Best thing that ever happened to her. She’s lucky to have me.” He hadn’t even finished saying it before Nick and the other two barked out laughs. “Yeah, right,” Nick choked. “I think you got that backwards, buddy.” For a second there, it looked like Brett was going to smile, but that was as far as it got before he bent down to get his tool belt.
I totally LOVE Brett!! <3 I'm soooo glad we get to see him again!!! <3

15% “But you do now? Why?” “Because I ran into Snip last night and the whole time I was talking to her, I kept thinking what a dick you were for what you did and what a dick I was for just blindly taking your side like I always do. She deserved better than that.”
Oh Jack! Im definitely loving you atm! :D <3

16% “Did you ever tell her?” Jack lunged to his right and palmed the ball as it bounced back toward them. “No.” “I didn’t think so.”
Oh shit!! I have a feeling this is going to cause shit when it comes out! Im hoping it comes out sooner rather than later but I have a feeling it wont :(

22% How many times had he wanted to tell Maya the truth about that night, and how many times had he chickened out because it would be like throwing Will under the bus? Not only that: Jack didn’t want to be the one to hurt her, to make her look the way she’d looked at him a second ago. And what good would it do to tell her now? It wasn’t like she could hate Will any more than she already did, and it wasn’t like she could divorce him all over again, so it would serve no good purpose for anyone. Best to just leave it in the past with everything else.
Oh shit! Why do I think this is gonna come back to bite him in the ass!! :(

25% “There’s a lot more to all of their stories,” she said, giving her head a quick shake. “But you get the gist. When they’re all old and gray, they’ll have great stories to tell their grandkids about how they met.” “You’ll have a great story one day, too.
Yep, these 4 girls definitely have good stories! Im looking forward to the rest of Maya's :D I love seeing how comfortabe these two are around each other! Im loving it! <3

28% “Me?” Will barked. “I never said you couldn’t talk to her.” “Uh-huh, right. Maybe not in so many words.” “What the hell’s that supposed to mean? You and I were friends way before—” Will stopped, blinked slowly, and shook his head. “Shit, I do sound like a twelve-year-old girl, don’t I?”
Yep! It's annoying! I dont really like Will but Im starting to think deep deep deep down he's a good guy coz otherwise Jack wouldnt be so conflicted and loyal to him - Right?

29% “Hey, Snip. You look great.” His cheeks pinked a little when he said it, which only…no, it didn’t…yes, it did…made him that much cuter and made her smile self-consciously as all sorts of things started fluttering inside her. “Thanks. You, uh, don’t look half bad yourself.” Jeans and a blue button-down; nothing fancy, and yet at the same time…yeah. Before she got caught staring, she twisted around and smiled at Pete.
Aww Jack! i really cant wait to see more of these two Im really enjoying them!! I love how Maya is now seeing Jack differently but doesnt know why!! I wish I had more time to read! :( Stupid uni! :'(

32% “Okay, losers.” She laughed. “If that’s how you want to play it, then it’s game on. Let’s go.” And so they did. Back and forth the game went, and so long as Carter could manage Brett, Jack could keep the ball out of Ellie’s reach simply by virtue of his height. Never one to be put off easily, though, she tried all sorts of things to get the ball away from him, including jumping on his back and trying to climb him like a tree.
Hahaha I can picture this sooooo clearly!! <3

33% “I’ve always liked him,” Maya said quietly. After a quick glance at the door, she leaned closer to Jayne so her voice wouldn’t carry outside. “But it was always just a friend thing, you know? And then…I don’t even know. From the second I saw him at Chalker’s last week, something felt different. He’s the same guy he’s always been, hasn’t done or said anything different than he used to, and yet…” “And yet,” Jayne repeated, nodding slowly. “It’s always the ‘and yet’s that get you.” “It must be because my girlie parts have been neglected for so long that they’ve gone on high alert, right?” “Maybe.” Not even a little bit convincing and they both knew it. “Or maybe it’s just because I haven’t seen him in a while.” “Maybe.” Slightly more convincing, but not by much. “So maybe it’ll go away, this…this…feeling.” “Do you want it to?” “No.”
Definitely loving this book! Wish I could just devour it but it's half 12 n I have to go to bed coz I have uni in the morning :(

37% And how many more times was it going to take before he managed to get a few things through his goddamn head? Like she was Will’s ex-wife. And like how a couple hours ago he’d walked in on Snip telling Jayne how much Griffin Carr got her girlie parts all worked up—he still couldn’t believe she’d used those words. That was probably why things were so complicated between them; she hadn’t seen him in a while and was starting to get a little needy.
Oh Jack!! I knew thats what you were thinking :/ I cant wait to see what happens when he realises!

40% It wasn’t a date; it was just two friends going to a dinner and a movie together
If you say so jack.... it sounded a lot like a date to me! :P <3

42% “Me?” It started out as a question, then turned to a statement by the third time he’d repeated it. “Me?! Me. You were talking about me.” “Yes.”
Okay Im loving Jack!! And Maya obviously! however this convo is going bad n i dont see it getting better! Though I LOVE how awkwardly sweet Jack is!!! <3

43% What were they supposed to do now? How were they supposed to move forward? It wasn’t like they could pretend the last half hour hadn’t happened, and at the same time it wasn’t like they could do anything about it.
That convo was amazing! I love that these two were honest about their feelings!! I cant wait to see what happens next!! :D

44% “You know what’s really bizarre about this?” she asked, then rolled her eyes when he snorted. “This should be awkward, shouldn’t it? I mean, sitting here admitting these things to you and having you tell me all that…I keep thinking I should be embarrassed, or feel awkward or something.” “But you don’t.” “I don’t.” His eyes softened. “Me neither.” “You see? It’s a sign.
Youre definitely right Maya!! I love how honest n upfront these 2 are being about their feelings!! Theyre amazing! I wish I could just read this but I have uni in the morning :'(

47% You okay? Two little words, that’s all they were, and yet they were huge to her. It wasn’t often she preferred texting to actual face-to-face conversations, but this was definitely one of the times, because he’d never have to know what those two words did to her or how long it took for that one tear to roll all the way down her cheek.
Oh Maya! :'(

49% With a muffin tray of Yorkshire puddings in each hand, she turned to set them on the cork pads and almost crashed into Jack. “Oof!” “Who’s your friend?” he asked, backing up only far enough that she could set the pans down. “His name’s Yves,” she whispered, wagging her brow a little. “He’s French Canadian.” “Is that right?” “Oui, and you’re inside the three-foot gap again.”
I love that jacks jealous!! Im loving this! I just wish I had more free time :'( I cant wait to see where this goes :D <3

52% Jack managed to catch the “yes” before it screamed off his tongue, and instead managed to find something adult to say.
I agree - she seems really strange n creepy :/

54% “What is it?” “Oh…I um…” Shit. “Okay I got nothin’; I just didn’t want you to hang up yet.” He didn’t even care that she could see him blush. And he could have kissed Steve Jobs and the phone company for making it possible to not only see her smile like that, but for being able to hear her sigh his name.
Jack!!! I love him! <3 <3

55% “Oh, don’t stop now,” she said. “It was just getting good.” “What are you—?” Turning, he found himself staring straight back at his reflection in the mirror above the bed, Iron Man underwear and all, and if he was guessing right, his phone had been high enough on the cabinet to catch the full show in the mirror. “Shit, Maya, I’m…I didn’t mean—” “Oh please.” She laughed. “Don’t apologize. That’s the most action I’ve seen in a long time.” Jack dropped his arm so she couldn’t see his face, then realized he’d waved the screen right by his crotch. The whole time Maya’s voice continued to taunt him through that tiny little freakin’ speaker. “Nice undies, by the way. Never pegged you for an Iron Man; I would’ve guessed you were more of a Hulk kind of guy.”
Loving this book so much!!!!!! <3

58% This time when she dropped her head to the table, she dropped it to the table with a thunk and an agonized “argh!” “Told you it was simple.” The laughter in Nick’s voice was followed by the sound of Jayne thwacking him on the arm. “What?” “I can’t be,” Maya moaned. “That’ll make everything worse. And besides, he’s only been back a couple weeks…okay, almost a month…but it’s too soon. It can’t be that. Can it?”
Oh poor Maya haha :D I love seeing more of Jayne and Nick together!! It's been so long since I read their story! <3 <3 <3

62% For a fraction of a second there, she almost considered thanking Stella
Awww yay! I love that Maya thinks that :D I cant wait to see what happens here..... :D

63% as soon as he started talking, Maya wished she could tell him to stop.
Oh god..... What's he going to say?! Im scared! :(

64% Maya stopped dead in her tracks and looked up at him, her head shaking slowly as tears rolled down both cheeks. God he hated doing this to her, but if there was another way to make her fully understand, he didn’t know what it was. Forcing one side of his mouth up in what had no hope of looking anything like a smile, he swiped his thumbs slowly across her cheeks, but the tears just kept coming. “I’m sorry,” he said. “But I really need you to know this.”
Oh poor Jack!! :'(

65% It’s not even him, it’s Genie. She’s the one I owe everything to, Will and Tammy are just sort of there by default. I mean, they’re great, don’t get me wrong, but if it wasn’t for Genie, I probably wouldn’t have had anything to do with Will after what he did to you, Snip. Shit, if it wasn’t for Genie, I never would have walked away from you at that stupid party, but…” “But giving something to Will meant giving something to her.”
Oh Jack!!!!!! I love him so much and I hate what happened to him!!!! :'(

69% Without a single glance back, she walked straight inside, locked the door behind her, and stumbled up the stairs, not slowing down until she’d changed out of her wet clothes, had dried her eyes three times, and was standing there staring at the boxes of tea clutched in her hands. Great freakin’ time to be out of wine.
Oh poor Maya! And Jack! :'( :'( :'(

71% She had to be shittin’ him. Lifting his head off the chair, he scrubbed his hands over his face. “This isn’t about Will anymore, Genie.” “I know.” She stuffed the used tissues in her robe pocket and reached for a clean one. “But he’s my son, Jack. I need for him to be happy and I think maybe Stella—” Jack was already on his feet and heading for the door. The last thing he heard before the door slammed behind him was Genie sobbing.
:( oh Jack! :( I do feel sorry for Genie though I think? I think shes a good woman who made mistakes but I dont know at the same time coz she still seems to be putting Will first! :'(

72% “If you have to ask,” he said, nudging his nose against hers. “I’m obviously doing it wrong. Let me try again.”
Oh Jack!!!!! <3 <3 <3

76% She started to laugh, then stopped when she heard the door open downstairs. “Oh boy,” she murmured. “Okay.”
Oh shittttttttt......

78% which was why he didn’t tell her everything.
Oh Jack! That's gonna bite you in the ass later I know it :'(

79% Laughing at his stupidness, she went to reach for him but he ducked, caught her by the ankles, and tipped her onto her back. Instead of lying back and getting ready to enjoy herself, she wrapped her hands around his neck and pulled his face down close to hers.
I love how fun n silly they are together even like this! I LOVE that they're already sooooo comfortable with each other! :D <3

81% I’m not complaining, but why the hell would you say no?” “Well, it’s the craziest thing, actually. There he was, offering me exactly what I wanted, or what I thought I wanted, and there I was leaning toward saying yes.” She pressed her palm flat over his chest, then stretched her fingers wide. “And then a funny thing happened.” “What?” With one hand on her upper back and one pressed against the base of her spine, he pulled her in tighter. Maya tipped her face up and kissed the side of his neck. “You sent over that damned piña colada and screwed up this great and wonderful plan.”
AWWWWWWWW MAYA!! <3 <3 <3 <3

83% Without a word, Maya pushed out of her chair, rounded the table, and wrapped her arms tight around Regan. “Okay.” Regan laughed. “Stop it or you’re going to make me cry again.”
Oh my god - I fucking love Carter n Reagan!! <3 <3

88% you were what Will needed, and I knew if you found out you’d call the wedding off.” An icy chill pooled deep in Maya’s belly. “If I found out what?”
Oh shit!!!!! Nooooooooooo! :'(

90% To anyone not standing right beside them, it must have looked like she was sharing a hilarious joke with them, because her smile never faltered and when she was done reaming them out, she threw back her head and laughed, then kicked both their ankles until they joined in.
Okay I might not like Stella but I like her in this scene - removing what she did in the past :)

Just another second chance romance? On the surface, Maya and Jack are both the victims of a drive-by romantic disaster, several years and one heartbreaking marriage ago. Now Maya has given up on love, at least for her and Jack is regretting letting his best friend cut in on his chance to win Maya’s heart. When their paths cross again, Jack is determined that this time, Maya will know he wants to be more than a friend, but how does he tell her when he is a reminder of the worst betrayal of her life?

How Forever Feels by Laura Drewry is about the pain, the mystery and the packing away of the memories of a lost love. It is also about forgiveness, understanding and opening your heart to what could be your forever love, the one that should have been. Best part, it actually involves more than one couple as well as finding true love, although in a roundabout way.

Maya wants the fairytale marriage, as it turns out, so do three other people. Maya needs to move on, forget the past and stop blaming everyone else but herself. Jack is a bear of man, good looking in his own right, but not the suave charmer than his best friend is, but he is sincere and wears his heart on his sleeve. Will it be enough to heal Maya?

Laura Drewry makes her characters feel real, flawed and human enough to make mistakes, often devastating ones. She knows how to open their hearts, as well as their eyes to what stands before them. Filled with supportive best friends, some humor and some very revealing moments, this is a quick read for anytime when you just need to have some sweet romance with a little tart undertone. Heck, I can’t even read the title without mentally singing a popular country song, and it fits this romance perfectly!

Two years ago, Maya divorced her husband Will after catching him cheating on her. It's been two years since Maya saw her ex-husbands best friend and foster brother Jack. Jack and Maya had an easy friendship but Jack has been avoiding Maya since the divorce. Now, Jack is back in town for business and runs into Maya and the chemistry between them is still there. Jack's been in love with Maya since he first saw her but stepped aside when his best friend made a move on her first. The more time they spend together, the harder it is to fight their feelings for each other.

This is one of my very favorite friends to lovers story. Maya and Jack had fantastic chemistry together. This book was funny, sweet, sexy and fun. I loved this story! There were a few things I didn't like but even with the things I didn't like, this was still a 5 star book for me. The writing was so good, I adored the main characters and Maya's friends. I loved the ending. I loved that each chapter starts with a quote from the TV show Friends. I loved the banter between Maya and Jack. This was just such a good book! I highly recommend this one to anyone who loves a friends to lovers story!

I loved this book so much!! If you've read the entire series like I have, you knew Maya's story would be filled with drama and Ms. Drewry did not disappoint! While this is the fourth, and I think final, book in the series it can be read standalone but once you meet these great characters you'll find yourself going back and reading the others as well. While reading this I thought Jack needed to man-up and Maya needed to back off the bitchy a bit, in the end I just adored them together.

They first met in a crowded bar but while Jack was at the bar getting them a drink, his best friend and foster brother Will stepped in and swept Maya off her feet. Not wanting to damage his relationship with the only family he'd ever had kept him from doing anything about. Now four years and a divorced Maya later, Jack is back in her life and this time he plans to make her his. Forever!

An awesome book and series that I recommend to everyone.

How Forever Feels is the fourth book in the Friends First series. You do not need to read the first three books to follow along with this one but I strongly recommend it simply because the series is great. Unlike most series where the stories tend to weaken with each book this one remains strong and engaging.

I'm pretty sure I've said it before but I feel that Laura Drewry writes contemporary romance at a level above average. She writes characters that are easy to like and even easier to drool over, I mean love! With a mixture of humour, small town appeal, sexy relationships and unwavering friendships, she really knows how to pull the reader in.

The chemistry between Maya and Jack was dripping off the pages in this book. You could feel the tension with each smile and kiss on the cheek. Of course it can't be as simple as two people liking each other and getting together. That doesn't make for great reading. Drewry throws in Maya's ex husband who just happens to be Jack's best friend just to make it interesting and extremely complicated. I was tearing through the pages to find out how it would end and finished it in less than a day.

For me, I think the thing I like best about this book and entire series in general is the tight relationship between the girlfriend. Don't get me wrong, the sexy men are yummy to read about but the friendships in these books between these women are beautiful. I have really loved reading their journeys together.

Fans of contemporary romance cannot go wrong with this book or any of others in this series.

How Forever Feels was a sweet friends-to-lovers story.

I enjoyed watching Maya and Jack's relationship move from friends to lovers.
They were both very likable and relatable and the storyline was enjoyable.

While I did like this book I didn't love it.
My issue was Jack, while he was a sweet and loving guy his need to please his foster family at the cost of Maya's feelings didn't sit well with me. I wanted him to put Maya and her feelings first. Some things he asked of Maya left me questioning his priorities.
By the end Jack does redeem himself, it was heartwarming seeing them work through their problems and believe in their love.

I'm a big fan of Laura Drewry's writing and I've loved the Friends First series https://www.goodreads.com/series/1436... while each book can be read as a standalone I highly recommend them all.

Thank you NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept for the advance copy in exchange for my honest thoughts.

I was pretty excited to get back to this set of characters.

I liked Maya in the other book in the series; in this one, she didn't really click for me. The dynamic with the other girls is so much fun and easily the best part of the story. However, when Maya is on her own, for me, she came across as a bit flat...I can't exactly put my finger on it.

The relationship with Jack is fantastic as friends, but I didn't see the spark between them. And while it was sort of a BFF to more type of story, it also wasn't because they were apart for a few years.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the story, but the parts I enjoyed the most were the scene that had everyone involved. I will definitely be looking into future books.

Reviewed for NetGalley:

I always feel bad giving a bad review. But I just didn't care for this story. The side characters were too manipulative, the situation too messed up for me to really get into it. That's not the writer's fault. It's just that I didn't care for it. I liked the hero, and I get that heroes need faults. But I feel like he needs some hardcore therapy. He also needs to get the horrible people out of his life, like his foster mother. He is so good to her, and she's a horrible person. I just hated that he tried so hard and she was so mean. I also didn't like the heroines ex-husband. And the fact that the hero was still friends with him after knowing that he cheated is hard to swallow. So, yeah, not a big fan of this book.

GUYS!!! I mean, really? This series just keeps getting better, warmer and better!

With the history between Jack and Maya, you are going to completely fall head over heels for this "the one who got away" story!

My one issue - the story did drag out a bit and then was like super duper rushed at the end, but was still enjoyable!

And this?

Meh- the middle two of this Friends First series were my favorite, by far! This was probably my least favorite. I was somewhat torn on this book- I both enjoyed and was annoyed by it. Nothing wrong with the writing- the dialogue, etc., felt authentic and believable. I love the relationship/friendship the four ladies have built. But, this one just didn't quite do it for me. I understand trying to humanize Will, the "dickhead" ex-husband and Stella, the "skank"; you'd almost have to in order to make it believable that Jack wouldn't just wash his hands of them, despite his history. But, at the end of the day, they were still a little too selfish. Will admitted that he always knew he and Maya weren't right for each other. Fine, I get it. He fell in love, truly, with someone else. Okay, we all make mistakes. Stella's all, 'I'm so sorry, but I'll never apologize for loving him'. Listen, it happened to Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, fine... problem is, it was an on-going affair! After Maya found out about it, neither of them stayed away from each other; they just continued. Will let Maya try to save their marriage. Will didn't leave Maya for Stella, Maya finally grew some balls and left. I get why Jack was loyal to the Carsons, and .

Pete, the dog, made this whole book worth it though!

I have to say, I really love this series Friends First by Laura Drewry. How Forever Feels is the fourth installment in the series and possible the last (keeping my fingers crossed that Griffin Carr gets his own book). I’m so glad I stumbled on to Plain Jayne, which is the first book in the series because it introduced me to a new series with four very strong, independent women, Jayne( Plain Jayne), Regan (Prima Donna), Ellie(Accidentally in Love) and Maya(How Forever Feels).

How Forever Feels is about Maya McKay and Jack Rhodes. It’s been two years since Maya caught her husband cheating on her, now he is her ex-husband and two years since she saw his best friend Jack. Jack is back into taking care of some business when he runs into Maya, his best friend/brother’s ex-wife and the woman he has been fighting his feels for years. As Maya and Jack spend more time together feelings start to grow and things get more complicated. Jack’s strong loyalty to his best friend Will and Maya’s hesitation to trust another man again could be the two things that hold them both back from having the one thing they both want, each other.

As I said before, I loved this book and I love this series. It’s got everything I enjoy in a story, romance, humor, strong leading ladies, animals and steam. Plus this series has something a lot of books don’t, great quotes at the beginning for every chapter. Every chapter in How Forever Feels started out with a quote from the TV show Friends. I was a big fan of the show growing up, so I was excited to see what the next quote was going to be. I definitely will be doing a re-watch of the series now.

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review. This does not influence my opinion in any shape or form.

This is only my second Laura Drewry book and that really needs to change soon. I really liked Accidentally in Love and I really liked How Forever Feels. I love how she writes her romance, how they make my heart speed up and slow down at the same time. There were even times my heart dropped to the pit of my stomach and I love that. I love when an author can draw those kinds of emotions out of you.

How Forever Feels is a page turner, you know what I love about it? It doesn’t have a whole lot of instalove. Laura makes you believe the chemistry between Maya and Jack. You see them as friends both past and present and you truly believe their chemistry. I love that! I also love how Laura builds the friendships among the characters, you can sense that their friendship is deep and real.

How Forever Feels is Maya’s story. As I’ve mentioned, I haven’t read this whole series in the entirely (I need to change that) so I only remembered bits and pieces of Maya’s story. How Forever Feels tells you more of her story and I personally really did like Maya. I loved how caring, loving, and sincere she was. Most importantly, I loved how she’s portrayed as a tiny person but did some serious damage to her ex husbands belongs. YOU GO GIRL! We also meet Jack. Jack is so loyal and likeable. I really wanted more of his story. I don’t know what else there could’ve been to his story but I felt like there was so much more Jack could’ve offered to the story.

Overall, I really enjoyed this and look forward to finally reading the first two books in the series.

Fantastic book! My first from Laura Drewry and I am seriously impressed. Incredible story, likable characters, great dialogue, etc. HOW FOREVER FEELS is written so well I was completely hooked and knew I was going to love it before I even finished the first chapter. I was absolutely right and even though the ending was great I hated it was over.

To me, Jack Rhoades and Maya McKay's story is as much about second chances as it is a friends-to-lovers story. But however it's labeled, it was great! From the first moment of their reunion the attraction and chemistry between them lights up the pages. The history between them is complicated. Lines of loyalty and sacrifice are in question forcing tough decisions. But as impossible as things seemed their feelings were stronger. These two were a great fit. Clearly at home with one another and their banter was hilarious to read.

I also have to say, Laura Drewry gets extra points because even though I started with the fourth book in her Friends First series I was able to fully enjoy the story without feeling like I was missing too much backstory about the secondary characters. All of whom were extremely fleshed out... and hilarious. Third to Maya and Jack, I have to say I like Ellie best. And will of course be back-pedalling now to read this entire series from book one, because this book truly was a joy to read. 5 stars

I'm real confused on how I feel about this story. Here's why:

Definite slut shaming going on. The heroine's husband was cheating on her with one of his coworkers. Now, is it ok for the heroine to dislike the lady her husband was cheating on her with? Yes. But there is no need to constantly refer to her as "the slut."

Then there is the character of Delilah. Delilah enjoys sex and isn't afraid to go after it. Why do we have to shame her for that? It's ok for men to sleep with many partners but not women?

Had those two issues above not been issues I would have really liked the story. I genuinely liked Maya and Jack. The story's conflict is an excellent and twisted one. Their relationship grows and blossoms well and in a manner that keeps you invested. The supporting couples (previous books' characters) makes me want to go back and read the other books. A HUGE positive was the great relationship the heroine has with her three girlfriends. They are each incredibly supportive of each other and I just enjoyed the strength they offered each other.

After reading Accidentally in Love (book three in the series), I became increasingly curious about this group of friends. So of course, I picked up the previous installments so that I could have a full understanding of their lives and their friendship. Right about the end of my series marathon, How Forever Feels became available on NetGalley and of course I had to have it too.

Maya is done fretting over her divorce and what could have been. Focusing her energy on her business and her friends, she's content to live her life on her own terms. Alone, but on her own terms. However, during one of their weekly girls' night out Maya reconnects with Jack and soon the dreams she had once shoved at the back of her mind come to the forefront of her mind. What would it be like to live her own fairy tale love story with Jack?

Jack has harbored a crush on Maya since the first time they met. He lost his chance years ago when his best friend and foster brother swept her off her feet and he has regretted it ever since. Reconnecting with Maya brings back all those feelings he kept at bay through the years. But after seeing first-hand how much she went through in her marriage and the betrayal that led to her divorce, he decides to keep her as a friend rather than explore the chemistry that sparks between them.

I had gotten to know a little bit about Maya in the previous books, but had not learned the extent of the farce her marriage truly was nor the extent of the heartache her husband's betrayal caused. So yes, I was curious and more than a little excited to see how Laura Drewry was going to bring to the page.

Maya was smart, hardworking and a wonderful friend. I enjoyed her sense of humor and the easy way she got along with everyone. I especially liked her with Jack. Maya and Jack as friends were a treat to read. Mostly I loved that the author took the time to showcase the connection they shared. They talked about their lives, reminisced about the past and even addressed the huge elephant in the room--her ex. Through it all their connection continued to be on the forefront--growing, deepening. I loved it!

Of course, as you can probably guess, they were even better as lovers. *sigh* Jack. That guy was almost perfect. Handsome in an understated way and funny with a caring heart, Jack was loyal to a fault and completely smitten with Maya. I admired his loyalty to his family, but I admit there were times where I just wanted to throttle him. The sacrifices he made for because of his gratitude were admirable, but cost him so much that i couldn't help but feel for him and cheer him on once he decided to pursue his own happiness.

Although Jack and Maya's romance was slow in coming, once it arrived it was the perfect mix of sweet and sexy. I enjoyed how the author infused their time together with some humor while still bringing the heat their chemistry generated. It fit them perfectly, since they were both quirky in that way.

Keep in mind that although this is the fourth book in the Friends First series it can be read as a stand alone. But if you enjoy your friends to lovers romances with a side of humor and heap of heat then I recommend you pick up the other books in the series too. This group of friends is a fantastic bunch and their stories worthwhile.

All in all, How Forever Feels turned out to be a fantastic friends to lovers story with an awesome mix of emotions, heat and romance. This series has become a favorite of mine and Laura Drewry has certainly earned a spot on 'my list of 'auto-buy' authors.

This is a sweet heartwarming read with wonderful characters you can relate to. Friends first than loves are the best stories. This was a fun loving very believable story that you will find yourself laughing out loud. They met with a smile each going their own ways but staying friends. One secret love that last a lifetime, one man who would do anything to keep his true love happy. One night holds one secret that if it ever got out would destroy everything he has built with Maya.

Jack has been in love with Maya for years, he moved over and let his best friend have her only to have that love destroyed leaving Jack walking away from one friend to keep another. For four years Maya has been his world he has loved her from afar. Now he has the chance to make her his but again family is in the way. How can one keep his family and the women he loves. He is torn and has been for years. He walked away once but he doesn't know if he can again. I fell in love with Jack from the start he is so strong, caring and loving. He is a wonderfully sweet man. If anything he is a little to nice giving in to family and his best friend walking away from the women he has always loved. He holds so many people's hearts in his hands but sooner or later he must make a stand make a choice which could set a family apart....

Maya gave her all to one man four years ago only to find out he wasn't her forever it left her broken and destroyed. Now she is second guessing everything she does. Who to trust, who not to.... She is at a place in her life that she wants a family. There is no man in site she could trust but one man who is off limits. When Jack walks back into her life it is already complicated with the feelings she has for him it just got more complicated. Maya is wonderfully sweet and I give her a high five for doing what she did for her ex. I just do not think I could have. How can a woman have a man who is best friends almost like a brother with her ex. Who will win and who will lose, who will have to walk away from the person they love or the family they adore?

The author put a lot of thought into this plot and it's characters. It was a fun loving read which will keep you smiling. There are times when your heart goes out to them and others when you would like to slam some heads together. I liked the chemistry between Maya and Jack it seemed so real and powerful. Griffin was an added touch to the story, which just adds more complication to the story but gives it meaning. I loved Maya group of friends they are supportive but tell it like it is. I even came to like her ex, that really surprised me. I guess everyone grows up at some point. It was an all round good read that will give you the warm and fuzzy feelings. This is the second book I have read by this author who capture her readers pulling them in leaving them wanting more. I am so looking forward to the rest of this series

Maya first moved to town with her now ex-husband, Will, after meeting him and his best friend, Jack, at a party. Jack thought Maya was too pretty for words, but before he could make a move, his good-looking friend, Will, asked her out. A whirlwind courtship followed and before she knew it, Maya was married. In less than a year, she found Will cheating on her with a co-worker. Even though Maya tried hard to save their marriage, Will had already lost interest. And since Jack has been Will's foster brother and best friend since they were kids, and totally indebted to Will's family for taking him in, he's uncomfortable taking sides after the divorce.

Now Maya loves her work as a florist in the small town and has a close knit group of friends she hangs with who love her and hate Dickhead -- their little nickname for Will. So when Jack comes to town for work and surprises Maya when she's out with her friends, they're all pretty reluctant to be friends with Dickhead's best friend! And it's soon apparent to them that Jack has a thing for Maya and she's totally oblivious about his feelings.

Jack is just the sweetest guy ever, big and endearingly clumsy to Maya's tininess. He feels that he owes everything to Will's family, the Carson's, for taking him in when he was young, but as he spends more time with Maya he knows he can't leave her alone anymore. And he has to find some way to make Will understand.

The relationships in this book, the fourth in the series, are wonderfully done. Even Will, who actually says "bros before hos" out loud (yikes) is not portrayed as a total loser. He seems sorry about hurting Maya and truly in love with his new fiancée, Stella. She seems like a nice enough person, too, and admits that she and Will made a big mistake by being together while he was still married to Maya, but she'd like to be friends with Will's friends. And after hearing the horrible things Jack endured as a child in foster care, it's easy to see why he feels he owes the Carson's so much for eventually taking him in and giving him a normal life.

All in all, this is a truly great contemporary story of warm, wonderful and believable relationships and friendships. You don't have to have read the other three books in the series to jump into this one, but, believe me, they are all worth the read and you'll get an even better perspective on all the people in town.

I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley.

This is a “friends first” series, and the previous book featured Officer Brett McHale who is still the greatest. He shows up in this book saying he’s the best thing that ever happened to his girlfriend Ellie, without even a hint of a smile, and I wanted to lick I mean love him all over again.

But this book is about Jack and a girl he calls Snip. You know the saying “Nice guys finish last”? Jack is a nice guy. He doesn’t finish last, by the way, he’s just a very nice guy, and I found him kind of boring.

Jack grew up in foster care until high school, when he was taken in by a very nice family. He’s grown up now, and rich, and he still feels so grateful to them that he hands out money whenever they need it, and he always chooses the family over his own needs. He had a tough childhood, but instead of turning into a rough, silent type, he’s become an anti-confrontational quiet type.

Four years ago, Jack met Maya at a party. Then his foster brother Will showed up, and Maya smiled at Will, and “[a] big goofy dude like [Jack] didn’t stand a chance, so I took my sorry self and my stupid piña colada back to the limbo pole.”

Maya married Will, and he cheated on her, and they divorced. Jack stood by Will, even though Will was a jerk, because of his family guilt feelings. When the story opens, Jack is in town on business and he sees Maya. They were always such great friends, and he called her Snip because she was so much smaller than him, so they start hanging out.

Maya is a decent character. She thought she had her life all sewn up, then her husband cheated, so she destroyed all of his stuff and left him. She runs a flower shop and hangs out with her friends and she doesn’t trust guys very much.

Friends first can be a great setup, but this book didn’t drag me in. Like, it was hard for me to think that Jack and Maya had been such great friends while she was dating/married to Will. And then Jack saw himself as big and goofy, while Maya didn’t see him as totally sexy because she was busy trying to separate him from her ex-husband. So I couldn’t see Jack as sexy.

It all worked out in the end, of course, and that was a bit more exciting than the majority of the book. I guess the romance felt too slow for me. But I did get to read about Officer Brett McHale, so that was cool.
