4.5 - "Be brave for me." Stars!

Lauren Smith has such a great talent when it comes to character development, and one of the main things that I have loved about this series so far is the fact that every yummy man that we have come into contact with has been completely different from his predecessor. I loved Emery and Fenn, but Wes… I had a funny feeling he was going to be something a little bit special, and boy did he get this readers heart a-pounding.

We have seen bits and piece of Wes in the previous two books, being best of friends with the Lockwood brothers he has played a pivotal part in that family’s reconnection. But the actual man and what makes him tick, well the author managed to keep that a little more elusive.

”You think you can seduce me in thirty days.”

I loved that Lauren took this story out of the US, and Callie and Wes’ fledgling relationship gets its wings whilst taking in the sights and sounds of Paris. This couple are diverse in that they are opposites in a lot of ways. Wes is experienced in all aspects of giving and receiving pleasure, Callie has spent her life on a remote farm, pretty isolated from the rest of the world. Wes has a deep appreciation for art and its preservation, Callie is an artist, who just needs a little of the right kind of encouragement and support to achieve excellence.

"We're a disaster waiting to happen."

Both of them together… the innocent and the experienced, the naïve around the confident, really gave this story a depth and charm.

”This is all new to me. I don’t know how to be with you…”
Just Be… That’s all you have to do.”

There is also the element of mystery and suspense flowing through this story and as with the previous books it adds another layer to the budding relationship between them. Callie is thrust into a world of which she knows little, and while Wes tries to deal with the presence of The Illusionist, an unknown presence, stealing valuable artworks from friends and acquaintances.

”If dreams had a scent they would smell like you.”

I loved this book, it had a softer feel to it than its predecessors, and although there is the element of suspense the story really had the charm and feel of a good old-fashioned romance (with a little light BDSM thrown in!).

Lauren Smith really does go from strength to strength with each book that she releases. Don’t be put off by this being the third book in The Surrender series, it can easily be read as a standalone, and if you are looking for a well written, intriguing and diverse romance you cannot go far wrong with The Gilded Chain.

ARC generously provided by the author, and it was, as it always is my absolute pleasure to provide the above honest review.

I feel like reading a art education mix with romance. I do not enjoy this bookvery much. Some aspects are very similar to FSOG. And I can not stand Callie. She is obnoxious heorine. Asking too much attention just for herself.

West is just weak character on the background. The BDSM aspect is low and mild. The story/ plot is round and round about art and paintings. Nothing much twist or drama on the romance.

Callie is heartbroken over a loss she couldn't have predicted; She's ready to swear off love and men all together. Wes is obsessed with her, he sees her artistic abilities and the sexual nature she's got hidden. He's prepared to give her it all, a trip to Paris and a new look at men, and he's willing to bet on it. Prepared with everything she could want, Wes whisks her away to introduce her to new things in life, including complete surrender. When the art world and romance collide, Wes is determined to win Callie and risk it all.

Wes's story is the third book in the Surrender series and it's a good one. Wes is all male; he's dominant, handsome, wealthy, sexy, and he's got an artistic eye. He treats his friends like family and becomes a totally different person around Callie. I loved the vulnerability in Wes, because it was completely unexpected for his character. I really liked him and loved his book. Callie is a good character too, more innocent than I would have expected, but really perfect for Wes.

There's so much detail in this book, I felt like I could see every scene. The inner thoughts, the setting, and even the mystery are so easy to visualize and follow along with. I really like that Lauren Smith can produce a complete story, with mystery and sex, without focusing so much on one too much. I like a book that allows me to know my characters outside of everything first and Smith does that so well. This is a series worth looking into and even just this book separately. You'll fall for Wes and you'll find yourself so interested in the other characters, particularly the doms, as you meet them in the book and the other books.

Oh. My. Goodness. with each installment in Lauren Smith's Surrender Series, the heat factor gets turned up a few more notches. Gilded Chain was no exception.

When The Gilded Cage ended, sweet Callie was heartbroken. Fenn left to begin planning his future life with Hayden and get to know his long lost twin. Sweet, young Callie doesn't think she can recover and vows that she won't love again. It's just too much heartache.

Thankfully, Wes Thorne (Hayden's brother), is there to pick up the pieces. He already has an undeniable attraction to Callie, but seeing how heartbroken she was, he took it upon himself to help her past the hurt; while getting the opportunity to satisfy his lust-filled urges.

A trip to Paris will do the trick, right? He literally sweeps her away to one of the most romantic cities in the world. *sigh* Because he believes so much in her talent, he uses his experience and connections in the art world as a chance to help her visualize and pursue her dreams of becoming an artist.

Sweet, young and innocent Callie was so pure at heart. It's no wonder Wes is drawn to her. She was like a light that beckoned and he was drawn to it like a moth to a flame.

Let's talk about the HEAT factor in this book. Any fan of the series knows that the men have very particular tastes, when it comes to the bedroom, and that just amps up the heat to the nth degree. *fans self* The scenes in this book are filled with all the desire, passion and steam anyone could ask for. Not once did this story falter or fizzle, in that department.☺

I ❤ this series and can't wait to dig in to Royce's story when it's released. Having already met him in the previous books, I know his is going to be very entertaining. He's such a naughty and mischievous character and I can't wait to see how he gets tamed. The little teaser given at the end of The Gilded Chain definitely left me thirsty for more.

5 Stars – 3 Flames

It’s not often that I give 5 Star reviews. In fact, it’s pretty rare. But there’s no way I CAN’T give this what it deserves. This book literally has a little bit of everything in it, which I usually never see in BDSM books.

Callie has been in love with her childhood “crush” forever. But now that she’s heard that he’s engaged, to her best friend, she swears off men and love. Deciding to focus on the family ranch and painting, she surprises herself when she has to admit that Wes has caught her eye.

Wes’ childhood friend is back in his life and engaged to his sister. Too bad the engagement has broken the heart of the young lady he can’t take his eyes off of. Wes is stunningly handsome, wealthy and can have any woman he wants. So why is he so set on Callie? She makes him feel. Something he hasn’t done in years.

While this romance starts to bloom between these two, there is a thief that is targeting the wealthy in Long Island, Wes’ territory. Being the art collector and enthusiast he is, he has made it his mission to help the FBI capture the thief. Having Callie by his side, not only as his potential woman, but a wonderful artist, creates a few twists and turns that are pretty cool.

Although this is the 3rd installment in this series, it “could” be read as a stand-alone. However, I never recommend reading a series that way. You’ll understand the dynamics between all of the characters that much more if you just read along with the series. I haven’t read one of this author’s installments that haven’t been worth it.

Ok, that being said…psst, Lauren…I want Royce’s story!!!

This series just keeps getting better! You know that saying, "Opposites attract?" Well, this installment plays on that premise and does it quite nicely. Wes is the affluent, guarded, playboy type, while Callie is the innocent, hardworking girl from a small town. Another favorite trope of mine is watching a strong hero fall for a heroine without seeing it coming. That's exactly the situation Wes finds himself in and watching it happen was beautiful. Like the first two books int he series, The Gilded Chain was beautifully written with rich characters and rich, descriptive settings that kept my interest from the moment I started reading. I can't wait to see where the author takes this series next.

Absolute Leseempfehlung. ❤️❤️❤️

I was so excited to read this book that I pre-ordered it months ago and I wasn't disappointed with it at all. This was a great addition to the Surrender Series.

Callie and Wes' story started in The Gilded Cage when Wes and his sister Hayden showed up at Callie's family ranch "The Broken Spur" looking for Wes' friend Fenn that was kidnapped twenty-five years earlier. Callie had always loved Fenn and as she watched him grow close to Hayden she felt her heart breaking, it totally broke when Wes showed up with an invitation to Fenn and Hayden's engagement party.

I love the way Wes makes a bet with Callie about how she will feel after 30 days with him, he dangles the one thing that she has always dreamed of but never thought would be a reality. He is very sure of himself, and shoot looking like he does and his dominate personality I guess it's only natural that he would be so cocky. Ok, maybe cocky isn't the right word but he is overly confident of his powers over Callie.

There is a bit of a mystery that's happening on the Gold Coast of Long Island. Someone is stealing artwork from the homes of the elite, with Wes being the one that secured the purchase of the very expensive piece of art the FBI enlists his help in finding the art thief. This was a huge mystery, at one point I thought I knew who it was but something would happen or something would be said that would make me change my mind to someone else. It was a great who-done-it.

I am looking forward to Royce's story, and yes that one will be pre-ordered as soon as it becomes available too. :)

Favorite Quotes:

“The man could have talked angels into giving away their haloes without a second thought.”

“The world seemed to slow to a stop, frozen like a golden ray of sunshine trapped in a jar, a memory preserved forever, just as perfect as anything could be.”

“But Callie was a firecracker in his hands. Kissing her was like celebrating the Fourth of July.”

“I like how you smell too… Makes me hungry for you, for your body, for your kiss. It makes me think that if dreams had a scent, they would smell like you.”

“Your eyes. They’re cobalt. It’s such a rare shade of blue. No impurities, only endless depth.”

“Callie, you’re the center of my world. A life without you isn’t living.”

My Review:

The Gilded Chain is 3rd book in this series and it picks up where book #2 - The Gilded Cage, left off. I enjoyed the plot and the characters as they get comfortable with each other and unearth their secrets and fears. The story was quite steamy with some light BDSM training and discussion, and the trend for suspense and maneuvering continues with another mystery for the new couple to solve. The intrigue is unrelated to previous books, however it would be easier to fully grasp the back story of the characters if the series were read in order.

Immediate Thoughts:

After a horrible 2 book slump of awfulness, I knew this book would give me the goods. I've been waiting--and terrified, but in a good way--for Wes' book. He is a big, bad Dom and totally scary in the sexiest way possible. His vulnerability with Callie was totally swoon-worthy and the setting of Paris captured my heart as well. I loved the mystery twist that Lauren always weaves seamlessly into these book and makes me yearn for suspense I never knew I wanted. She is the Mistress of my suspense heart, knowing exactly what I need. I LOVED Wes. I love all the men of the Gilded Cuff, and the women are nothing to scoff at either. Strong, sassy, and seriously amazing.

When I get a new Lauren Smith book, I must stop everything else that I am reading and dive into her new book. The Gilded Chain delivers another great romance in The Surrender Series.

Wes is a man, who doesn't believe in love but is drawn to Callie despite her innocence. They find passion with one another in Paris, along with deepening their mutual love of art.

The reader knows that Wes will fall hard for Callie eventually. When he finally realizes he is love, it is a hard fall.

I loved all the rich details that Smith included in this book. So far this is my favorite couple in the series, I REALLY want to see a Royce book come out.

Thanks Netgalley for the free review copy, in exchange for an honest review. I am also buying my own copy of the book once it comes out. <3

Kobo+. Contemporary Romance Challenge 2024. Tropes: Romance/Mystery, BDSM, Bestfriend's sibling. #3 in Surrender Series. MC's h Callie Taylor, 20, daughter of Jim Taylor and Adopted little sister to Fenn Lockwood. H Wes Thorne, 33, brother to Hayden Thorne engaged to Fenn.

What I liked about this story: Both Wes and Callie had reasons not to fall in love; Callie - she just had her heart broken because she always loved Fenn but now he's marrrying Wes's sister Hayden and Wes because he lost his innocence when he was 8 when the Lockwood twins, Emery and Fenn were kidnapped and his parents hated each other and didn't love either Wes or Hayden. The only people he cared about were his Grandpa (Lives in England), Hayden and his best friends: Emery, (Fenn lost for 25 years),Royce Devereux. He has other friends too but these are his people.

Wes Desires Callie and Callie secretly thinks he's hot. She's read a lot of BDSM romances. He makes a bet with her. If she can resist him for 30 days he will pay for her to go to art school in Long Island, New York. His plan is to have any which way but he needs to woo her gently. Surprisingly she gives in sooner and thinks she has lost her chance at a free entry to Art School. This is the first book in the series that really describes the BDSM lifestyle. Callie is a sub and Wes the Dom, but Wes doesn't stick to the rules exactly as he lets her have anything she wants. Three of his people, Royce, Emery and Fenn see that he is in love with Callie. They all tell her that he is but he has't yet said so in words. He did claim her at his club with a collar, he bought her love birds, lots of new clothes, made a proper art studio at both his homes, one in Long Island and the other in Paris, arranged art lessons from a master at the Louvre in Paris. It was when she was almost dying from poison (Stephen Vail, illusionist art forger and thief) he told her he loved her.
I love Jim Taylor Callie's dad. He had been a stable steadying force in Callie and Fenn's life. He is a down to earth rancher who calls a spade a spade. He warns Wes if he hurts his girl he has a Winchester. I love it. After Callie was poisoned she came home to the Ranch in Colorado to recover for three weeks. Jim told Wes if he comes to claim Callie he better have a ring.

Wes comes and proposes and of course she says yes. Another HEA. Sigh!

Review I liked:It’s not often that I give 5 Star reviews. In fact, it’s pretty rare. But there’s no way I CAN’T give this what it deserves. This book literally has a little bit of everything in it, which I usually never see in BDSM books.

The Gilded Chain is the third book in Lauren Smith's Surrender Series, and it's a captivating, sexy read. This story follows Wes Thorne and Callie Taylor as they explore Paris together after Wes invites her there as a way to get over the heartbreak of discovering the man she loves is engaged.

Wes isn't looking for love— since first laying eyes on Callie months earlier, Wes has craved fulfilling his fantasies with the free-spirited cowgirl. Callie is intimidated by Wes' domineering sexuality, but being at his mercy feels too good, and she is eager to learn more. As they spend their days exploring Paris together and allow their guards to fall, they discover a world of pleasure and purpose.

The Gilded Chain by Lauren Smith is a sensual story; it has beautiful characters with depth and an absorbing plotline that is perfectly paced. Even though the "villain" was easily identified early on in the story and certain events were foreseeable, I became emersed in Wes and Callie's love story. They were so different from each other but had such great chemistry. It was interesting how they balanced each other out as they explored their feelings for each other.

There are also enjoyable secondary characters that make the story even more naughty and fun! I look forward to reading more books within this series.

I have been loving this series! This picks up where book 2 left off with a broken heart and an engagement.

This books is centered around Wes. One of the 4 friends who grew up together but each one was touched by a tragedy 25 years ago. Wes is wealthy, good looking, educated, dominant, and empty inside. He's never really fell for anyone. His true passion is art. He collects it, he acquires if for others, and he knows a lot about that world. But something is missing....he's just not sure how to fix/find it. Enter Callie.....innocent, lonely, gifted and heartbroken over another man she thought she was in love with. She's not rich, she's lives on a ranch and is used to chores, horses, and being around cowboy ranch hands. These two make an unlikely pair. Yet, both are missing something yet neither is willing to admit it to the other. This is a romance and it is romantic, but there is also a mystery involving stolen art. This book will remind you of the tragedy that 4 young boys suffered 25 years ago, and each has moved on in his own way. They are different, but still there for each other when needed.

This series has grabbed me from the get-go. It does contain BDSM but in a much different manner then "slave/master" that most of those type of books have. I'm loving the romance, and the suspense.

HOWEVER.....this ended on a cliffy and the next book is NOT out....which ticks me off..I hate starting a series if all books aren't out..

Having said that, I highly recommend this series.

Title: The Gilded Chain
Author: Lauren Smith
Publisher/Year: Hachette Book Group 11/3/15
Length: 352 pages
Series: Surrender #3

Overview

Explore a hidden world of erotic fantasies, where the greatest pleasures are stolen and the fiercest passions are untamed. . . For years, Callie Taylor has been obsessed with two things: a man she can never have and escaping to Paris where she can follow her artistic passions. But everything changes when Callie meets Wes Thorne, a wealthy, mysterious art collector and famous dominant. Despite all the nights she's spent dreaming of another man, it is Wes's predatory gaze that suddenly consumes her every thought and sets her body on fire. One touch from him promises unforgettable passion, but Callie knows that passion often comes with a price... From the moment he sets eyes on Callie, Wes is intrigued by her artistic talent and her delightful innocence of all things erotic. A stolen kiss leaves him aching and desperate to claim her in a way he's never wanted any woman. But first he must convince her to surrender her control. And what better place to seduce an artistic soul like Callie's than Paris?

My Thoughts

I think that we all had really high hopes for where this next installment was going to take us since we knew that Callie was going to have a HUGE broken heart and Wes was kind of inclined to partake of all that she had to offer (whether she knew it or not)

This 3rd book in the series takes us from Long Island where Wes is working to help investigate an art theft for a painting that's not only valuable but also one that he helped the family procure the piece so it's personal that they stole it from their home. The journey then goes to Colorado where Wes goes to both oversee what's been done to the ranch but to also see Callie. Then we're taken to Paris as a result of both a business trip that Wes has and a bet that he has with Callie to take her to bed.

The path that this story goes on from here on is the expected yet unexpected journey of Callie learning to get past her first broken heart, and understand what she is as a sexual woman, grow as an artist, and then discover what Wes has to offer. THEN, it's a matter of Wes deciding that loving her or lusting after her is worth it since it's something so different for him.

We are go from here is one of trying to get to the bottom of the theft, and determine who's behind it. we're led on a wild goose chase of sorts, the thief is someone we know but not truly known (mind you i thought it was someone else) and then, there's an almost death. SO....all that, it's a great story that gives us this couple's journey and wondering whether it'll actually work given their VAST differences in life.

On that note - the teaser for the next story is GREAT and i can't wait to see where all of our beloved characters net out.

The Glided Chain is the third book in Surrender series. Yet, another powerful, riveting, engaging and invigorating book and a great addition to this series. Filled with plenty of action, suspense, danger, love, healing, brotherhood and family, it left me breathless and enthralled. This is an emotional story that will hit you straight into your feels, wreck you in the best possible way and then piece you together. The Glided Chain is amazing in its gritty, gripping, riveting, engaging, dark, heartwarming and heartbreaking glory.

Wes and Callie are diverse and opposites in every way. Callie has spent her life on a remote farm, isolated from the rest of the world. Wes's life is "richer" and he is experienced in all aspects of giving and receiving pleasure. He also has a deep appreciation for art and its preservation. Callie just needs a little encouragement so he sweeps her away to Paris to seduce her, to make her forget all about her broken heart and let her explore her artistic talents. Wes's experience and confidence, Callie's innocence, vulnerability, silent strength gave this story a depth, charm and a heart. The mystery and suspense flowing through their love story add another layer to their development and relationship. The more time they spend together the stronger their connection becomes. Wes and Callie are both flawed and complex. They challenge each other and make each other better. They shouldn’t work, yet they absolutely do. Wes is there to pick up the pieces of Callie's broken heart by helping her to overcome the hurt and by using his experience and connections in the art world to help her pursue her dreams of becoming an artist. Furthermore, it's no wonder why Wes is so drawn to Callie's pure heart, innocence and her light. These two are drawn like moth to flame. I love they both helped each other heal, learned valuable lessons and how to move on from the past and truly start living.

It was fast paced, full of twists and turns with such a beautiful love story that had everything I love: vulnerable, jaded, strong and fierce heroine, protective, vulnerable, complex, layered hero, plenty of danger, suspense and romance. This slowly becomes another one of my favorite series.

The following are my thoughts as I read this book. Callie Taylor… born and raised on the Broken Spur ranch, is a talented painter, heartbroken to learn Fenn is marrying someone else. Wesley “Wes” Thorne… Long Island art expert and heir to “old money” family, older brother to Hayden, childhood friend of Fenn. Let’s just get it out the way-I have read the book before this one so I make some general opening comments that are my opinion-then on to the actual story. I believe the h has an infatuation for Fenn because she has worshipped him since she was a little girl. I also believe the H is fascinated with something he has not encountered in a long time, pure innocence. Oh the description lets you visualize what the h is not only feeling but seeing, even memories. Hmmm, the H is surprised, but I must question his intentions. The H has made the h an offer she cannot refuse. The h is having the true experience of a lifetime. I wonder if the H knows that he is fooling himself, hehehe. Poor h, she had no idea how to take in all that the H is showing and giving her. The interaction between the MCs is so intense to me, shiver. The H is very alpha. The h is passive-aggressive. Well the h has gone and jumped to some pretty true and some wild conclusions. Hmmm the H handled the suppositions of the h. Fenn is being a hypocrite, interesting. It appears as if there is a mystery is as well as a romance. What is Royce up to with giving the key to the h. Hmmm, I might have found the villain and creator of the mystery. Oh no the h is in serious danger and the H has not even realized it yet. Oh bravo, I have been caught off guard by who is the actual villain. The H quickly realized something that he had been in denial about. There is adult language and very steamy adult scenes. This is more than just a romance between the MCs, there is also a subtle mystery. I must also be honest and admit I was taken by surprises, kudos to the author. Happy reading.

“I never had dreams before I met you.”

Fenn and Hayden's story was great in The Gilded Cage, but I loved Wes and Callie's story in The Gilded Chain even more! Seduction, art thefts, awakening hearts, learning the true depth of love, conniving bitches, smokin' sex scenes and the City of Love all await within the pages of this book so let's get to it, shall we?

Wes Thorne lost that shiny outlook of childhood innocence at a very young age when his two best friends were ripped from his life courtesy of a kidnapping, and when only one returned, he learned to shut down his emotions to protect his heart. He has become a respected and sought after Dom at The Gilded Cuff, but he rarely takes on the same sub more than once and he always maintains distance from them after the fact, particularly when it comes to Corinne, a money hungry conniving witch who is determined to get her claws into Wes for his family name but he has absolutely no interest in her.

After meeting Callie Taylor when he went to find Fenn and Hayden, Wes was immediately intrigued by the young, innocent beauty but he recognized that she is completely in love with Fenn even though that affection is not returned. When Fenn and Hayden decide to invite her to their engagement party, Wes knows that Callie will not take it well at all and decides to hand deliver the invitation to help soften the blow and help her through it. She reacts as anticipated and Wes is there to offer her some distraction.

“Shed your tears for him, Callie. You are allowed that much ,” he whispered. His warm breath fanned across her lips as his face inched closer to hers.
“Allowed?” She bristled and flattened her hands on his chest, pushing hard. He didn’t budge.
“Yes.” He smiled, almost coldly. “You’re allowed to cry when your heart is broken, but just know that when you’re ready the entire world awaits you.”

His solution? Give him 30 days to prove that he can be the man she needs, not Fenn, and accompany him to Paris to see the life outside her little bubble that awaits if she pursues her artistic talent. If she can resist him, he will help her gain entrance to a prestigious art school in New York, and if she can't, well then they both win in a different way.

Although she doesn't want to admit it, Wes affects Callie in a way that Fenn never did. Fenn was safe to her, but Wes is sex on a stick with a brooding intensity and smoldering, dangerous edge that awakens a part of her she never knew existed- and it terrifies her.

When he looked at her like that, eyes so heavy with sinful intent… a side of herself threatened to emerge, a side she never knew existed, probably shouldn’t exist. She wasn’t ready to be that woman.

To his delight, somehow she finds herself agreeing to his proposition and they are off to the City of Love. A new side of Wes emerges while they are in Paris that she cannot help falling in love with even though she just knows he is going to break her heart and it will be worse than anything she experienced previously. Wes comes alive as he shows her sights and sounds of the city, and he is captivated by her as he experiences it all through her eyes for the first time as well. Little by little he finds himself falling for her as well although he doesn't want to admit to himself what he is feeling. When she finally capitulates and agrees to explore his world with him inside the bedroom, he recognizes her gift to him and knows that he needs to be more in control of his emotions and actions than ever before, but he is willing to do pretty much anything for her at this point.

He had no desire to break her, but to teach her that he could lead her, and she would enjoy it. He did not want to control every facet of her life. His goal lay only in control of her in bed, but in order for her to trust him there, she would need to learn to trust him outside the bedroom first.

Paris provides them the time away from the chaos of other parts of their lives to really get to know each other both inside and out of the bedroom. Callie may be 12 years younger than Wes, but she has experienced so much in her life already that she possesses a maturity in some ways that belies her actual age. But all good things must come to an end, and soon Wes is called back to the States to deal with an art theft that has occurred involving one of his close acquaintances. Their return will bring Callie face to face with Fenn again for the first time since he left the ranch, and Wes has no idea if it will undo all the progress they made together during their time away. Against anything he thought possible, he wants to keep this woman in his life and by his side forever and he will not allow his family or his friends to stand in their way.

She was a light, shining clear through him and obliterating that darkness he warned her about. It scared the fucking hell out of him. She had the power to save him. He didn’t want someone to have that strength over him, but he couldn’t pull back.

Although a bit of the formal, distant Wes resurfaces when he returns to New York, Callie won't let him hide away from her no matter what Fenn, Hayden or any one else has to say about them. And with their return, Royce Devereaux, the remaining member of the quartet of friends, is back in the picture as well, bringing friendship and comic relief with him. He is a much needed ally for both Wes and Callie as the art theft story arc comes to a head and Callie is introduced to the world of the Gilded Cuff.

Wes and Callie's love story was wonderful and felt as though it unfolded at a pace that made sense as Callie came to terms with losing Fenn and truly finding herself for the first time in her life. Although the age gap could have been a problem, Callie sees the world a bit more clearly than many, and as I mentioned earlier, she had a bit more maturity than you would expect from a 20 year innocent who spent her life sheltered on a ranch up until a few weeks ago. She brought Wes back to life in so many ways, and his transformation was a lot of fun to watch. Now Royce is the last man standing out of their little group, and he is due to find his HEA although he is resisting it so far. I am looking forward to seeing where the journey takes the fun loving prankster of the group whenever his story is ready to be told, but in the meantime, if you are looking for a well written, sensual and HOT read, then grab a copy of The Gilded Chain today!

There’s nothing Wes Thorne can’t have, no woman he can’t possess with a single crook of his finger, except for a sweet, innocent cowgirl from Colorado. When he first meets Callie, Wes knows his days of womanising are over, she’s the one for him, but there’s just one problem. She’s in love with his childhood friend who just happens to be engaged to Wes’s little sister. He sweeps her away to Paris to seduce her and let her explore her artistic talents. But when a dangerous art thief sets his sights on her, Wes won’t hesitate to protect the woman who holds his heart. Callie Taylor is a small-town girl but she has big dreams. Wes is like no one she’s ever known. He’s brooding, intense, and yet there’s a softness inside him, a need to be loved, and it makes him irresistible.
The third book in the series & they are best read in order. Brilliant characters, a well paced story add some mystery & I’m one happy reader. I loved playboy Wes & innocent small town girl Callie, the chemistry between them sizzled. The settings were well described & I devoured it in a long sitting. Another page turner from the author, I just loved it

**I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own and not influenced by my source.**

I was really excited to see this romance come to life thanks to the little teasers we got in the previous novel. And it truly met my expectations in that respect. These two were a perfect match and balanced each other out beautifully.

My only "disappointment" with this book was that the plot wasn't as dangerous as I thought. Compared to the other novels, it takes more of a backseat but it's still interesting. It really picks up near the end and the danger returns but I did want it to shine a little more earlier on.

Fazit: Etwas schwacher dritter Teil.

I received a copy of this book from the author, it does not affect how I feel about the book.

I was very excited to read this book and it didn’t disappoint. Callie and Wes’s story begins right where the second book left off. Callie was already In love and Wes knew what he wanted, and he went after it. The Gilded Chain was filled with art, mystery and of course love. What made this a little more interesting to me was that Wes was a little more demanding I feel that this book had a little more of the BDSM feel that I was looking for.
The only thing that was a bit different was it was not super action packed like the last two stories; but had just enough mystery to keep you guessing. I honestly really liked it and can’t wait to read the next story.!

The Gilded Chain is the 3rd title in the Surrender series, another romantic suspense, but with a new mystery plot. I had high hopes for Wes' story, because I loved him as a supporting friend in the previous books. Unfortunately, I was disappointed by the way his and Callie's story unfolded. She is a young, immature woman with a serious case of infatuation, swearing off men at the age of 20. Yet with only minor persuasion, she is passionately in love with another guy within a month. He is a mature man, a seasoned, experienced and demanding dom and yet he can't keep his hands off this young innocent, seducing and planning out her life for her. We do not get any more insight into his past. There is minor suspense in the form of some art thefts and a happy ending for the couple.

This is Book 3 in The Surrender Series by this author. It is a heartfelt romance, with a dash of mystery and some BDSM elements, between Callie and Wes. These captivating characters are easy to fall for. They share a solid connection and a dynamic pull that jump off the page. The sparks, chemistry, tension and emotions really zing back and forth between them. The storyline offers an addicting combination of feels, swoon, laughter, heart, drama, suspense, and twists, with stellar secondary characters. Steamy yet sweet, you won’t want to miss this love story. What an amazing read!

The Gilded Chain is the story of Wes and Callie. The storyline throughout these first three books in these stories is also resolved. There’s a 4th (or more) book in the series, but it’s not presented as a cliffhanger/continuation of the same story. The setup seems more like an interconnected stand alone, and it does sound interesting.

I would recommend this book to readers who like inexperienced heroines, age gaps and/or bdsm stories. There was a time where each character resorted to violence out of anger (only anger), which took me away from the story, so I would give it 3.5 stars.

I received a copy of the book at my request, and the opinions here are my own.

Another really good read from Lauren Smith. While I wasn’t as enthralled with this one as I was with The Gilded Cage, I still found this one to be pretty darn interesting. The storyline was really good; the characters were decent; the plot twists and turns were mild compared to The Gilded Cage but they were still definitely exciting; and the HEA—priceless! This book is well worth a read—don’t let it get away from you! (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and really enjoyed it, too.) ❤️

Romance and intrigue are embedded in a BDSM environment. Tracking down the Long Islanders leading an international art theft ring is an exciting and well told mystery suspense thriller. The glimpse into the BDSM lifestyle is sufficient to recognize it’s not for me. However, the elaborate rules as established in The Surrender Series make it clear that each Dom and Sub involved sets their own boundaries that the others must respect. Most of all, there truly is a HEA worth waiting for. I thank the author for an advance review copy and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
