The invention of quantum drive enabled faster-than-light travel and led to what is known in the Empire as the Great Expansion. Some were content to settle on imperial worlds, while others struck out on their own, founding self-governing colonies known as principalities beyond the empire.

The principality of Evergreen is unique. During the reign of the first Emperor, a catastrophic quantum drive failure stranded a Beranian colony ship in the Evergreen system. The Emperor of Evergreen allowed them to settle on the planet and establish their own enclave with limited self-rule. Many believed that two peoples with so much in common would build a strong principality.

That was seven generations ago, but those of Evergreen and Berane have remained mostly distinct, separate. Recent misinformation and propaganda campaigns have driven a wedge between them. Evergreen is prosperous, where Berane is plagued by poverty and the lack of necessities. The Emperor does everything he can for his people. He hopes his son will finally unite the peoples of Evergreen and Berane, ushering in a new era of prosperity.
Some move behind the scenes, using deception and misinformation to undermine the Emperor’s authority and deceive him.
