This easy-to-read, revised and updated, fictional account is a true-to-life composite of troubled children created by a veteran youth care specialist. Gus E. Studelmeyer, 13, is the central character and narrator. Issues Gus abuse and neglect, loyalty to family of origin, self esteem building, sensitivity to misuse of power, physical restraint, and much more.
Really wonderful book for anyone working in a residential setting or wants to in the future. Would be a great read if you want to know more about what it's like or if you know someone who works there/is a youth there. Provides wonderful insight in an easy to read format and isn't dry or textbook like at all.
"They often get labeled resistant, but it's really caution."
